“Can’t I properly read stallion novels anymore!”

Shen Yuan transmigrated into someone who’d tormented the young male lead almost to death, the scum villain Shen Qingqiu.

It must be known, the original Shen Qingqiu ended up being carved alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick, a human stick!

Ten thousand “f*ck your moms” rampaged through Shen Qingqiu’s heart:

“It’s not that I don’t want to cling to the male lead’s thighs, but who made him so f*cking black. The type who seeks thousand-fold retribution!”

Why have all the female lead’s scenes been forcibly given to him.

Why, as a scum villain, does he need to constantly sacrifice himself, blocking knife and gun for the protagonist!

Shen Qingqiu: “…I think I can still save him, one more time.”

Since this novel is from the modern day reader's MC's pov, the story is still quite light (considering the other 2 novels by the same author) and even has many funny moments. But if you dig deeper or try to tweak the pov then it might not be as "fluffy". I recommend you to read this if you wanna laugh, have a good plot, get some fluff and a lil bit of angst. If you're reading, don't forget to read the deep dream extra for a full experience!

I’m ashamed, but it took me a really long time to get around to reading this after I had finished MDZS and TGCF, MXTX’s other novels, and I’m not quite sure why. I think I was telling myself that because this was her first novel it wouldn’t be as good as her other two, which had set the bar so high it really wouldn’t have been unreasonable if that was true. BUT! Boy was I wrong, this book is pure gold. I have the hardest time ranking her novels, they’re... more>> all amazing, and the best part is all in their own ways. None of them ever feel like repeats. But, for this book, I have to say, I started reading it skeptical and got s**ked right in.

MXTX has a way of slipping humor into all of her books, but this one was by far the funniest. Shen Yuan’s relatability is pulled out in the funniest way by being thrown out of his generation and year and with his critiquing of all the poor plot and simply his painfully real obliviousness as he is forced into the role of Shen Qingqiu. Slight spoiler:
Spoiler

Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu have the best character dynamic and relationship as two millennials living in ancient times, they’re hilarious

[collapse]

The plot? 10/10 as one would expect from an MXTX novel. Felt different from her other novels but not foreign, I was pleasantly surprised with how verifying her plots have been throughout books.

Characters 10/10, would have loved some more focus on the female characters, as I would in all MXTX’s novels, but that doesn’t take away from how good all the characters were.

plot:relationship balance 10/10 I love how it’s a novel with so much plot you can take away the couple and still have a story, that’s really what I’m looking for in books, that always makes me really happy, and I think MXTX does that really well in her stories.

Overall 10/10 books, I more than enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

T/W: Noncon

THAT BEING SAID, really important thing I need to mentions, there is a pretty non-con scene in this book and I think it’s important that that is known going into the book so it doesn’t catch anyone off guard. I won’t try and say how bad it is because I’m not in any position where I can do that, so I will leave this as a warning that if you’re sensitive or triggered by anything like that please don’t read or make sure you know the chapter so you can skip it, it happens around chapter 80, at the end of the book. I’ll explain a little what happens in a spoiler thing so only click on it if you’re sure you’re comfortable with that

Spoiler

Shen Qingqiu gives consent but he isn’t comfortable with it and doesn’t want it

This is now one of my main fandoms. I love this novel, all the characters are so likeable, especially our MC Shen Yuan. Super readable, I pretty much finished it in one sitting. A lot of people have criticised the ending for being disappointing, and I kind of agree, it was quite confusing, but the extras definitely make up for it (especially the wedding extra, go watch Melt Strules' storyboard of the extra). There is so much fandom potential for this story and there are so many great fics on... more>> AO3.

Also this webnovel meant to be light-hearted and fun, not taken too seriously, so don't go in expecting the same standard as Heaven Official's Blessing or The Founder of Demonic Cultivation.

I just noticed the "yandere" tag. Don't be fooled, the ML is not that. He has issues for sure, but the extras absolutely prove that the MC loves him just as much as ML loves him. <<less

Ummmm.... wow!!!

So im now addicted to transmigration novels because of this one 😂 I’m still iffy about cultivation novels in general but the situation the MC has in this novel intrigued me very much. And that element was the transmigration. So because of that I was able to pick up this novel and start reading and ohhhh boy did I fall into a wonderland because of it.

I’m not good with describing the MC or ML but I will say they are both engaging and interesting characters. The MC though processes... more>> kept me reading chapter after chapter just to keep wanting to read more about him and his situation.

I didn't want to rate it 3 stars but there were a couple of things that I didn't like but it definately is not that bad. First of all I am not gonna lie I did get bored reading this sometimes I just wanted to abandon it but I tried hard not to. I also don't really understand how Shen Qingqiu fell in love all of a sudden. This may not be my favourite novel but I still kinda liked it

I read this a long while ago (not including the extras) but am going to write a review now! Honestly, it's better to read this story as a parody. The author makes fun of tropes seen in a certain genre of stories, jabbing them comedically through Shen Qingqiu's eyes. He not only clearly criticizes the way this novel is written, but he also adds his own "spice" to it, and that's where the comedy comes from, along with this disparity between his inner and outer self.

Luo Binghe is an innocent... more>> disciple who turns into a yandere-esque demon lord after a series of unavoidable events, thanks to the System. I thought while not completely unheard of, his character overall was interesting. I ended up becoming a bit more interested in him as a character rather than a love interest though. It's not a bad thing, but anyone coming in for the romance will probably be a bit disappointed; Shen Qingqiu, as funny as he is, is slow to catch up. I think at a certain point, the two do have a potential for romance, since Shen Qingqiu clearly does care for Luo Binghe and Luo Binghe clearly shows a more, well, extreme level of dedication toward Shen Qingqiu, but at the end of the day, it's a bit clumsily done. I do like yandere ML characters like Luo Binghe, but in his case I think he could have still shown more remorse for that one TW scene.

The side characters are nice: we have some strong and spunky female characters, which I totally stan as a concept, Zhuzhi Lang clearly being the "predecessor" of Wen Ning, the sappy (but still in my alley) tragic love story between Luo Binghe's parents, etc. I also liked Liu Qingge but wished he had some more "screen time" as well. Shen Qingqiu and Liu Qingge seriously could have been A+ bromantic pair material. Shang Qinghua was also an interesting character, as he appears to also be a character who reflects the author's feelings about writing.

All in all, this novel definitely had good points, like its comedy with some angst and drama sprinkled in, interesting characters in one way or another, and an easy binge read with its easy-to-follow plot, but at the same time, it's pretty clear that this is the author's first novel. The romance took a seat in the back in lieu of a comedic parody (which isn't a bad thing, again, as this aspect was well-done), the ending portion could have maybe used a bit more polishing, and I feel some relationships and individual characters could have potentially developed some more. <<less

It's a good read, this is my first transmigration novel. The character is interesting and I enjoyed the plot. It is also not too long or too short.

But I would agree that we might need a little more invested in the romance department, like... how did SQQ fall in love with LBH??? Like it is not very obvious so...

Additionally, would be great if there is more extras on the Airplane bro and MBJ.

... more>> 🟢 Suitable for those who like plots and transmigration. A little angst and misunderstanding.

🔴 Not suitable for those who wants full on romantic development plot. <<less

Very funny. I really enjoyed the protagonist's humor since he's always complaining to the system. I have to admit I was hoping for something more substantial but it's really more of a light-hearted read, albeit a long one. The translators really do an excellent job, with footnotes and explanations of important terms.

I wasn't that impressed with Luo Binghe, but that's just my opinion. I think it may be because our main POV is SQQ. But that's okay. The story is still pretty fun and I really like SQQ's cultivation sect.... more>> They're good people.

Omg, this couple has a place in my heart. I don't really know how to explain it but the ship development was very unpredictable in a good way.

This novel is mostly romcom and I think it is what the author intend it to be. Some of y'all haters should know that there are 100 chapters so don't go review "BingQiu is a problematic ship" if you haven't completed all. 80 chapters was just the beginning and the rest of the extras will talk about BingQiu and the other canon ship... more>> MoShang. Not a complete review as I ended up dropping this around ch 40 something, I just wanted to record my thoughts. The premise of this is fun and the comedy does hit for the most part. Another plus is that (because the MC transmigrated into the world of what was originally a harem novel) it has quite a few fun female characters, which is sadly rare in BL. However, the parody element made it hard for me to invest in the plot and to be honest... the main romance is... more>> bad. Luo Binghe is kind of irritating as a ML and I never felt any real chemistry between the two, especially since they have a teacher/student relationship that still felt very paternal. Having heard from friends who've read the whole thing that this problem doesn't resolve itself and finding myself not caring at all about the plot, I decided not to bother finishing this novel.

My rating for the half I read would be closer to 2 stars but I'll bump it up to 3 because a) aforementioned good female characters, b) the translation by faelicy is excellent and deserves a shout-out tbh. <<less

I give this novel a 2 star but because I like the anime I'm giving in extra star.

To be honest I wished there were more romance scene between MC and ML. Also the novel was kinda rushed, so was the romance. In fact I feel that the MC's feelings are forced on him.

The author could had done a better job with this novel.

My first xuanhuan novel and I'm glad it was, or else I'll keep my aversion to this genre.

MTMX novels are just undoubtedly one of the best written novels, even though this is their first one. The pacing is organic, the characterization is realistic and hillarious and finishing the whole thing is satisfying. I felt like reading it was both a short read but a long journey. I recommend watching historical dramas though so you can get familiarized with the setting.

Overall, a really great gateway to cultivation novels if you want... more>> to dip you toes.

This novel plot had some plot holes. Anyone can see that. But I can't judge this as an awful one cause this is my first transmigration novel. So, I don't know how this kind of system stuff works. Even though I didn't have a clue about it I still enjoyed it. So in my opinion, this is a favourable one. It was so hilarious how that main character works with the system and how he had pledge with his villain.

(And I appreciate this plot doesn't have many erot*c scenes like other Asian bl fantasy/historical stories.)

okay. There are so many things I can attack mxtx's novel for. Convenient plot lines, plot holes, too many misunderstandings, transmigration questions??, etc. Compared to mdzs, this work is, to put it not very nicely, a mess. I was probably going to rate this a 3.5 stars for an angsty and sweet read, no matter how illogical it was, but when everything was revealed it truly blew me away.

it was the first time I was introduced to a villain actually not a true 'villain', and yue qingyuan's indulgences, all... more>> the things I hated shen jiu for was explained, and became things I loved him for. However much I disliked him at the start became how much I loved this petty, proud, fragile, beautifully-constructed character. All the things that he did 'wrong' before were just misunderstandings that could make luo binghe's and shen yuan's misunderstandings look like nothing. Shen jiu is my ultimately favorite character in all the chinese novels I read so far. His motives aren't seen until the end, and he's 'bad' and 'scheming' because he's abysmal at communication. Someone please help this poor boy. I won't deny he has character flaws that are unappealing to some, but I love them because it makes him feel so real (so human, so vulnerable). He's endlessly prideful, bitter from being hurt and betrayed from the only person he loved in this lifetime, selfish, petty, and prone to jealously. What he became was undeniably because of the things he experienced, and honestly, the one that pushed him to be so mean and vindictive int he 1st timeline is def the one he loved

it breaks me that that there was no real conclusion for the original sqq, and fact that he only shed tears upon seeing a certain shattered sword!!! I want to claim my rights for shen jiu x happiness please.

what didn't really sit well with me was that bingge was upset that he didn't have a nicer shizun, and from the way he captured and slowly tortured og sqq wanting a reaction from him really made me feel that he did love og sqq, albeit in a twisted af way. But shen yuan is not shen jiu, and idk, it's just a little weird to me. Also, mxtx has made the og sqq more compelling than shen yuan (to me at least). Sy is super funny though he and the system are actually comedy gold

this novel has so much potential to be a harem lmao. I honestly ship almost everything, liu qingge x shen qingqiu, luo binghe x shen qingqiu, yue qingyuan x shen qingqiu, zhuzhi lang x shen qingqiu, even gongyi xiao x shen qingqiu, honestly, save my soul.

I'M SO UPSET there was no redemption for shen jiu, all I want is for shen jiu to be happy. It's not fair that he was a product of his circumstances and was punished for it and luo bingge, also a product of his circumstances, was not punished for it!! ≫:- (. I will actually fight for shen jiu x happiness rights, thank god there's fic on ao3 to soothe my soul.

okay so the review of this novel has actually become a rant on how much I love shen jiu. Lmao sorry not sorry, please still do read this, there'll be one pe*ophilic as*hole you'll hate and the story between bingmei and shen yuan is still pretty cute, so enjoy!!! WATCH THE ANIME TOO SQQ IS THE PRETTIEST MAN GOODBYE

I'd give something between a 4 to a 4.5.
It's something definitly easier to read than most of the work out there. The MC is very relatable, very clever and it's enjoyable to see from his perspective.

I'd like to adress a few of the issue people had about the characterisation of side characters. This is only my point of view but, MC transmigrated in a stallion novel where the main focus were the girls and the ML.
Even with MC coming in, the main focus is still the ML, and the original plot. The mob chara, are still mob chara. Unless MC paid attention to their role or appearence, the extra/side chara remain side chara.
There's a strong highlight on the miscommunication/cultural difference which make up lots of the comedy.

I definitly recommend giving a try for at least until chapter 15. Which the pace really start to pick off.

Aight you want a straight up millennial transmigrated into stories that makes you laugh so hard and also have times to make you go wtf, then here it is. It's an enough reason to make one pick it up for its nonsensical comedy but it's so hilarious nonetheless. Also in par with how you may react if you were transmigrated into this kind of novel, if you were a straight guy and the goal is being able to survive.

Spoiler

This is in a spoiler section for a reason, proceed at your own risk.

Was here for the romance, but the plot is too damn irresistible and I didn't (okay maybe a little) mind about the ending at all. I advice you to have a really open-mind about this novel, especially for the MC.

While it's hilarious how Shen Yuan, a very straight male that ends up accidentally making the protag's sexuality bent and the novel into a boys love genre, he is still straight at the end of the novel. He did choose to be with the protag in the end, though not entirely seen or be with him in a romantic sense but as someone who the protag can rely on as a fellow companion who also have gone through the constant bittersweet and painful experiences along with him.

So this kind of ending truly has an ambiguous or open ending in the sense of where the two can form a more healthy communication and leave the readers mind to imagine and wonder what their relationship can be after that. It's mostly the most realistic straight-male-transmigrated-in-a-boys-love-genre I've read. The author didn't entirely want to push the romance instantly in one go, but did provided scenes where Shen Yuan has the possibility to be romantically (when the protag is in a adult appropriate age) interested on the protag. I do recommend to search around the internet for constructive criticism about Shen Yuan and the protag's character depth along with the plot. It'll give you a more reasonable insight as to what the novel truly is and why the author decided that kind of ending. Can't go into details that much since english isn't my first language and I suck at explaining things.

It was worth it to the read the novel, regardless of such ending.
