The story starts at a point where Li quye has prepared around a million years in the shadows (not an exaggeration) for the main mission and is now just doing side quests (like rebuilding our fallen sect) along the way. 99.9% of any important historical figure/sects in that million years has either been taught by him or is scared shitless of him. Suffice to say, in the present timeline anyone who doesn't know of the MC doesn't hold enough power to be a threat and anyone who does know of his existence would never dare to go against him.
This brings me to my biggest frustration with this story, the author wasting opportunities at building tension just to have the MC be the center of attention. Reading this novel often felt like over leveling before a boss fight, Li quye would come across the main villain midway through the arc, where they might give him a good challenge. But instead he will avoid the fight, go collect his many broken items and level 90+ friends and come back to perform a once sided massacre. Pretty smart in a real life situation but for a fictional story takes away the suspense if MC behaves like that every arc.
An example of a missed opportunity that really bugged me was when *spoiler* it's been hinted at from pretty early on the sect has 2 hidden masters so 1000 chapters in when the MC has been away from the sect for 200 chapters, you'd think it's the perfect set-up for enemies he made earlier to attack the sect and for the 2 hidden masters (and the many Ally sects he prepared on screen specifically for this situation) to finally reveal themselves. But instead the author waits till Li quye comes back to the sect before the enemy invasion, at which point the hidden reveals have no impact cus we know the MC is strong enough to solve everything on his own.
I've mentioned a lot of frustrations with the novel but it's only because it done all the hard part but missed the bigger picture by putting too much emphasis on the OP MC. The world building is developed just enough that the story manages to remain interesting without the need to add pages and pages of description (like reverend insanity or Tolkiens works) and the features of the world were some really good use of imagination, just a shame you can only enjoy it in short bursts.
