this is super slow burn (they don't kiss for over 100 chapters) but I really liked how this looked at daily life, office life, job hunting, keeping up with friends, all the minutiae of growing up and getting a start in the world, it's real and relatable. the architecture stuff is interesting too and it builds really well into how the MC grows as a person, professionally and personally. the romance stuff is slow to start but it DOES get there and i really liked the journey.... more>>

But it's a bit of a disservice to say that it's just an otome game made fiction. I think this story does such interesting and meta things with worldbuilding and genre play. 

Xie Xi, while acting out his 'role' in all these purple, tropey OTT dramas (designer Jiang Xie is a highly melodramatic human who never met an overwrought emotional scene he could not resist adding tinsel to) is always commenting acerbically on how ridiculous the scenarios are, while also being quite soft hearted and susceptible to these well-worn tropes. 

And as the story builds, it's a meta fiction about how stories are made in the first place. I think this story gestures towards the power of the stories we choose to tell ourselves, and how these can be meaningful to us even when they're not 'real'.   <<less
