On further consideration, looking at this list, I have a "type" for stories and that type is slightly-dark fluff. For stories in this list, expect friendship, silliness, and fun... but world-building and plot elements that can be fairly dark.
Otherwise, the stories worth reading have strong main characters, deep world building, and supporting characters that have their own development and motivations. "Strong MC" doesn't mean that they're immediately OP and perfect, it means that they encounter challenges that they need to overcome and that they grow and change as the story goes on.
