this is my first time reading a tragedy story in an ancient setting. I was only here because of the yandere tag but the moment I started reading, I was hooked. I couldn't put my phone down unless I completed a whole chapter.

There was no fluff, lovey-dovey moments at all. But, even though there were so many angst and yandere moments, there were still some funny and cute moments specially with their son/s.

As I was reading, I can't help but pity the two protagonists, he loved her and was obsessed... more>> with her but she no longer can fall in love with him. Their fate together were bound to end up in tragedy even in their first life.

Thank you for translating this amazing noble. <<less

Honestly, they should just get rid of the romance tag. Or emphasise this more as a psychological drama but I get why they didn't (because it's not smart enough to be lol).

If you're looking for a deep thoughtful romance, with the added bonus of reincarnation/isekai, this ain't it. As some reviewers who gave positive ratings have mentioned, this has a yandere ML. I don't really mind yandere characters as long as they're written well, and are balanced out by the MC.

I didn't read the reviews before I started reading this,... more>> and dove in, expecting the Tragedy tag for the reincarnation part, and since it didn't have drama tagged, I didn't mind all that much.

And then we meet the MC. I initially liked her in the first few chapters, because her reactions were sort of reasonable for a person faced with a horrible fate, her milquetoast attitude towards everything started to piss me off by ch.12.

Like, maybe please stop being a wet-noodle or grow a personality like the food you 'supposedly' like. Bruh, when she first mentioned her disliking the bland porridge because she was a modern girl who liked things strong, spicy, and flavourful, I was actually looking forward to her starting to change things around her.

The only thing I ended up liking was the fluff between her and her son. I just wished the ML would just die off-screen soooo many times, or that she would divorce him and find the real ML.

Because this novel's ML isn't sick/psycho in a fun way. If I'm reading a josei romance, and they try to make the ML a yandere, maybe I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the constant hurting the soft MC? Like physical and psychological torture. The sadism was out of this world. But it wasn't written well, or maybe wasn't translated well, because every time we get the ML's POV, it just screams abuser thoughts.

Bro, like, I love Hannibal and I'm a Hannigram shipper. I've read some abusive sh*t. But I've come to expect it that way. Hannibal isn't supposed to be the good guy. The way he's characterised and coded is to be that way, and still his charisma shines through lol.

However, the ML in this is so freaking hate-able. I started to hate the MC along with him. I wanted to drop this by ch.12 because her attitude was pissing me off so much. I don't blame her for taking his abuse in the beginning out of fear, but at least start thinking of something to reverse your situation (i.e. Divorce? Show of personality maybe? Literally anything other than showing your beautiful weak teary face to the ML??)

Like she doesn't even use her femininity or her beauty as a weapon. She just straight up cries without thinking. Friggin ML gave her too much credit at first thinking she was just being sly. But then when he realizes she's just really weak, he ends up enjoying hurting her.

Anyway, dropped this after I spoiled myself to know the ending because I there's so many other novels to read out there. This ain't worth it. <<less

I find the plotline really interesting. I wonder how the MC and the ML progresses.

I wonder if there is an MTL version of this though? If anyone knows please spare link (╥_╥)

I am enjoying this story as it has comedy, tragedy and of course romance.

Actually I could understand their tragic entanglement. At first the MC was only want to have a stable and peaceful life, ... more>>
Spoiler

but because of MC's previous life tragedy, she cursed that she will not fall in love with the ML in the next life

[collapse]

It's nice story but also a little bit different from others transmigrated to become villainess's story.

The ML was ruthless and cold but has a strong possessive and yandere character. I could understand how the MC always want to break free from him because the ML always control all the aspects of her life, she just like a pet live in a big cage and especially she was modern girl who want to gain freedom for her own life.

But overall this is worth a try. <<less

One of the stories where you will not have 2D characters. I don't know why some reviews are so bad that I was skeptical before picking this novel up but this is pretty good. ML is possessive but there are some people with extreme behaviours and I feel once you reedit you will understand why he became like this.I would have given it 5 stars but the story kind of fell flat at the end. I would suggest this but have your tissue box by your side.

Declaimed: this is not a romantic novel. If you're looking for healthy and happy relationships, don't read this. This couple relationship is very toxic. There's many unpleasant things that if you cannot accept the reality or prefer a smooth and "healthy" life, don't torture yourself and read this. This is full on yandere.

but overall story and plot is really interesting. Do I hate ML? Yes. Do I pity ML? Also yes. Do I think he deserve any of these? Yes, he reaps what sows. Does what he did is wrong?... more>> Yes, 100%.
but our MC is the most pitiful of them all. But I'm glad she can see through everything and make peace with herself. What I admire this MC is her ability to make peace with whatever situation she's in and see thing through rather than being stubborn. Some of y'all might like that "ah yun" girl more because of her stubbornness and how she always try to escape but I hate that type of FL.
Spoiler

Even she's with the ML at the end (or some of y'all see that as HE, I don't), she will never fall in love with him and I think that is his retribution for all he did in their past life and this life. At least now she has a happy life with her children, mother and brother.

One thing I could clearly say is that the main couple's relationship is very toxic. I do love a possessive ML but this one is literally a yandere male lead. He gives no damn about irrelevant people, which is almost everyone except a very few like his son and maybe the sixth prince aka his cousin from his mother. He hates the original FL so much he poisoned her to kill her slowly. Then, the current FL got to the body and acted way different, captured both Little Zhao as... more>> well as ML's heart then karma came and his poison slowly took effect. He's so controlling and manipulative he wants to decide everything that she does. She can't do this or that, can't go out or see anyone. I love possessive MLs but I don't like it when they're too much that the FL can barely control even the way she eats. I don't like that she was so strong willed but then slowly succumbs to his control, and I don't even blame her. I can complain all I want but to be in her position is no easy feat anyways. Her actions were understandable but in a reader's perspective such as myself, I'm not so pleased with the idea of him having complete rule over her life. How she planned a lot of stuff yet literally everything went his way instead. I don't like how she's portrayed as a beauty yet dumb lady all throughout the story. I mean, it's understandable at the start but even 'til the end, the public didn't change their impression of her which kinda bothers me lmao. She's literally seen as just a beautiful lady with no manners or brain whatsoever. Like a pretty vase only for display.

Overall, I gave this one a 4 stars. I don't like it that much but I was curious enough to read it til the end so can't say I didn't anticipate anything. <<less

This is a yandere story amd it really lived up to th trope. I like the possesive trope but this was to much even for me. The ML is just tooo possesive. It got to the point that it became uncomfortable to me as a reader. If you like a true yandere stiry this is for you but for me this was tooo much and thats why I rated it so low. I mean I enjoyed it at some parts but the more I read the more uncomfortable I got.... more>> I may have liked the story if I was more into the yandere trope, because I gotta say the author really made a yandere story with a true yandere as the ML. Don't get me wrong I hated him but he is just the defineision of yandere. I pityed the MC, she could have gotten a better life. <<less

It's an interesting story and it made you read it because you want to know how ML gonna suffer.

But then after nearing last arc, the author like losing the idea, they just made FL come back. Like seriously?? After FL escaped from her husband, the daoist monk decided she shld just stick with ML because of the past?

but then the novel is sad. Gotta prep tissue if you read it

Wow, this story was truly heartbreaking, so much angst and despair.

This fML honestly was unlucky since the very beginning, and although it had a bitter-sweet happy ending, it still felt lacking and more like she resigned herself to her life.I really would hate to be the fml, not because of her character, she honestly is an ordinary girl with a rotten fate.

I have no left feelings for the ML, he got what he wanted at the end, and paid his dues but I still believe he got off easily, just... more>> because of his halo of ML.

This story is really about retribution not romance and the only sweet parts involve Little Zhao, he is the MVP of the story, truly.

A Yandere story in all it's glory, the obsession and possessiveness was tangible all throughout the novel. <<less

I love this story and the translations team because it's great and easy to read novel. Although, the only problem I have is the ending of the story. Don't get me wrong. I totally undersstand why it ended that way. I am just not satisfied with the Male Lead for what he did. I get the whole story is about a typical yandere and obsessive male lead but that's the thing. It's your typical yandere ML that would tie up, lock her in a cage, control her every move and... more>> manipuliaze everything about her. Yet, I have read better yandere ML that the one in this novel.

Here's what I'm not satisfied:

Spoiler

We later found out that the relationship between both ML and FL are deeper than we thought. (Go and read the novel first before reading the next few sentences). He killed her in another life because he wanted the throne which her family has. They both had an arrange marriage with one another. The FL loves the ML and works hard to get along with him. Their marriage years were great but then the rebellion happened and he f*cking massacred everyone in her family. Throughout it all, she trusted him and didn't even doubt a thing. She trusted him so much that she revealed about the secret passageway that only the royal blood knew. And what did she got from all of this trust? Nothing. She died by an arrow shot by him. He got the throne but lost his true love which he realized too late. I don't give a f*ck about him really. Make him sad and agony all you want but he deserves it. She even went as far as cursing him that she die the moment she fell in love with him. Which is fair. I mean, would you want to be with somone who once betrayed your trust and killed your whole family? I wouldn't. From the very beginning, he manipulate the situation to make this innocent and naive princess to fall in love with him just so he can get the f*cking throne.

[collapse]

In the end, he was still stubborn and wouldn't let her go. He knew that she doesn't love him and still forced her to stay.

The Ending:

Spoiler

She stayed mostly because it was convinient and for her children. I mean, duirng that period, having a husband that is devoted and loyal to you is already a great thing. Not to mention, the fact that she doesn't have to worry about food, clothes, warmth, shelter and money. He has everything that she would ever need. And, to her, that's a win. It's a simple life although once in a while your partner wouldn't let you go out as much and easily get jealous if you talk with another man. She was indifferent about the whole thing. No feelings towards him whatsoever. Hell, even their eldest kid knows that he shouldn't follow his parent's love story because it's just that wrong.

I totally get why she stayed. But, she shouldn't have made it easy for him. Sure, he grieved and stuff but it didn't felt like he actually repented to me. Because if he did then he would take a second to think the fact that to be together in the next life he would have to kill her again. The thing that sets the whole thing off is that fact that he killed her and now he's basically saying he would wanna do it all over again but with a different setting? That's f*cked up. He kills her, he regrets, and repeat.

[collapse]

The novel is wonderful and interesting. Don't judge it simply by reading the reviews and their spoilers. Give the novel a try. I cried during the angsty part. Totally worth the time. It's only a few chapters and isn't as long as a normal C-novel. So you can definitely finish it in a day and a half. <<less

It's really different from what you usually see here on NU. It's not the fairytale happily-ever-after kind of story. It's different and interesting. I like it.
Other reviewers are hating on the ML, but one has to remember that it was stated at the very beginning that the FL transmigrated in a dog-blood book/novel and the character set up for the ML was as an anti-hero. He was supposed to be ruthless and merciless.

Their final situation is her destiny and oath. Him knowing and accepting the situation is part his penance and punishment. Him not letting go is part of who he is -- arrogant and selfish.

I feel the writer was able to show the ML's journey/progress (?) better than the FL's. I feel like her change of feelings was too drastic. In the end, it's a novel, a work of fiction. It ain't that deep. ^^

The FL was pretty much a doormat. I really enjoyed the premise behind it. Stepping on eggshells so you don’t get mu*dered. Not being mu*dered is a good motivation to try to be a good spouse and mother. One of the parts I liked was how hard she tried the tr*sh character she used to be kept messing things up.

Spoiler

She was wondering around trying to be a good wife. But the novel hadn’t been detailed so she wasn’t sure who she had been sleeping around with behind her husbands back.

Major spoiler: I would have loved the book had it ended tragically. I loved the tragedy that was the “end” of her first life. I love how her husband fell in love with her. It was incredibly sad that she did her best to try to avoid getting mu*dered but hadn’t realized she was a goner from the beginning. And the fact the one who caused her demise was trying so hard to undo it. That would have been a memorable ending... instead of what we got.

I'll drop it for now as I've seen some spoilers but man, the inconsistencies!!
MC wants to be in the good graces of ML but suddenly changes her mind 180° after experiencing his full on sadism.

But her goal was to live, she can't live a good life if she continuously approaches him and kick him away next. She's making 0 progress. YET, somehow, ML still falls in love with her.
She knows if she stains his honour, she's dead meat. Whether it's an affair or divorce.

For a crazy overly controlling ML, he wasn't that bad (at least to the part that I've read).
Spoiler

This is before I read the spoiler about their 1st lives together as a politically married couple that ended up in an absolute bloodbath or the fact that her 'cheating' had to do with her purposefully enraging the ML. But she still was a 1st class b'atcch to her son from the get go, I get it, you don't want to love the child that harmed your body who's also the child of your 3 life (past/present/future) time nemesis. But she did physically abuse him, instead of just pretend like she didn't have a son. Which in comparison isn't better but hey, better than abusing him till he's scarred and crippled. Crippling him by accidentally pushing him off the stairs can count as a mistake but the TODDLER had multiple wounds on him, done in by her.
The 3 life time grudge plot is one hell of a kill joy. MC made it so that she will never fall in love with the ML and the ML will chase and entrap her forever. It's a never ending tragic mess with a one sided happy ending.
So can you really say the ML loves her? He sure does in the classic yandere style.
Is it romance? Nay, I say. It's a good novel but I wouldn't call it a good romance novel fo sho.

It's really a good story. I like how the ML so yandere eventhough he sometime a bit unreasonable.. And about the FL.....🤔 Don't know if the knot in her heart untied or not.. It wasn't explained..🤷🏻‍♀️ But I think there no need to explain because even their first son able to see that his mother love his father too..🥰

About their previous life.. The ML deserves so much for what he had done to FL.. I cried so much on the extra about their previous life.. 😢

There is another CP.. Ayun... more>> and LiHan.. It seem like not finished.. 😅 don't know how ayun live her life at the palace..

Overall... It's a good story.. Angst there.. Hahahahahahh really satisfied.. I spend 3½ days finishing the novel.. Worth it really.. Even when I read to the last. I still want more. 😝 <<less

This is a novel that start with classic theme and end with a bang. While killing our heart slowly in the middle of its journey.

Early chapter full of MC's POV however what make it interesting the most when it changed to ML's POV. How he respond with his feeling, his pasti deeds, and his resolution about the future that he wants.

To say the end is tragedy is not quite right, however this novel's ending can't be said to happy end.

Why didn’t I read the reviews properly before I read this story?!

I should have not wasted my time. I kept on pushing hoping that it would get better but I give up at chapter 48.

For one, this is a tragedy. My own fault on this for not paying attention to this flag. But the second thing that I hated was the r*pe. The author continues to say she sobs and cries and he forces her. It’s horrible.

There are other things as well but I’m too upset right now to... more>> think about it. I give it a 0.5 star out of 5. <<less

What began as a riveting character study on patriarchal societies quickly descended into a chaotic, confused mess. At the outset, the story felt like a social commentary on the issues with hyper-masculinity and how women are affected by the phenomenon. It even felt like FL purposely written as a weak character to serve as a foil that highlights ML's toxicity and obsessive compulsion.

But by the end, it became clear that the writer either 1) forgot what she was doing, or 2) had me duped and actually had no clue what... more>> sort of point she was trying to make. The story was "problematic" in a self-aware way in the beginning, but by the end, there was a huge disconnect between character motivation and actual story execution. The rules of the universe and transmigration were either confusing or non-existent, the ending lacked a sense of catharsis. It was just so blah and you could tell that the writer was pandering to the readership.

This could have been a gritty story about the vices of love, but it came up way too short at the end. Still, three stars because I was just that impressed by the beginning. <<less

4 star due to unfinished side characters ending. They're quite pitiful or at least sad, idk, it just doesn't feel right or complete. And also I wish they extend more chapter for the explanation of FL side more. Idk why it more bias to the life of ML and that's quite sad. It's sweet but I just feel that there's something missing and it'a not yet done, so yeah 4 star.
