Mingzhu was an unfavored concubine-born daughter inside her family. One day, she caught the eye of his Highness, the Crown Prince, and was directly sent to his bed. She became his outside mistress. For four or five years, she was locked up in a small courtyard without seeing the outside world. Until one day.

The crown prince was going to marry a wife and without any hesitation granted her a cup of poisoned wine. Only then did Mingzhu realize that she was just a toy he kept to relieve his boredom. After her rebirth, Mingzhu from the bottom of her heart had only one wish : to escape from the cold and heartless crown Prince.

The man despised her for her status that was too low and thus couldn’t marry her. She said “It’s alright”. The man saw that she was well-behaved and sensible, and loved her even more, saying “I will take care of you for the rest of my life.”

Mingzhu pretended to be moved on the surface, but when the time was right, she carried her pregnant belly and immediately ran away. After the person ran away, the prince only then deeply experienced how to write the word regret.

This story is complete neurosis. You can't justify ML at all. He is a brutal psycho path. And FL is too s*upid.

The so called love is nothing more than just joke.

As I personally like to write to I know the persistence it takes to write a book. But we should not just play with characters to get the desired effect and emotion out of them.

... more>> As a crown prince, how can ML be so worry free. Doing whatever he wants.

He doesn't respect her, she is a prisoner of his obsession.

Not worth reading at all.

Ruined my morning. <<less

When I read this story, what was on my mind was: "so this is what it's like to live as cattle."

A woman who was born without a high status had no hope of living well.

There are many readers who don't like MC. MC is too weak, MC can only cry, have no character, and so on. I want to laugh out loud.

... more>> Who is MC? Who is ML?

How desperate it was to live under the pressure of someone more powerful and of a higher status than yourself!

MC was just a concubine born daughter. Her deceased mother was just a small concubine of a court minister. She used to be a girl in brothel who sold her talents but not her body before her husband bought her freedom.

Because of her mother's background, the MC had lived a hard life since little. She was bullied by her half-sisters from the main wife. She only hoped that she can marry an ordinary man and then lives an ordinary life.

As she reached a marriage-able age, she finally betrothed to her childhood sweetheart. But one day, the evil crown prince saw her from a pavilion. And after only one night, he sent a decree to her parents to send her to the crown prince's mansion. Even after she said that she had a fiance, he didn't let her go. He threatened her with her family instead.

Was MC not trying to get the justice for herself? She was. She went to report to the County magistrate, she beat the drum. But no one dared to take her report. Instead, she was beaten in public by his own family, tied up and sent back to the ML's residence.

MC also tried to run away from that place many times, but she was always found again and then held captive. The ML even used her former fiance, the 2nd male lead, as a threat for her. If she obidient, he would let her ex fiance go...

Everything she could do had already done but failed...

And what should I say about ML? In my eyes, he is a little monster! And his parents, that royal couple, are the bigger monsters!

His mother, the Empress, couldn't manage him. She herself didn't have ability to free herself from a monster's clutches, so how could she help others to free themselves? Thus in the process she turned into a monster in the end. And gave birth to a monster son. Thank God that her daughter wasn't one...

His father, the emperor, was totally ruthless! Except his power and his wife, he didn't have anything else in his eyes. What about common people? The whole world is his, the people is his, why would he cares? Let the son of his manage his own person, whatever happens, then it happens...

ML was a complete product of their crooked parenting! ML could get everything he wants or he likes without caring about anything. On what basis? Just because he is the crown prince... The crown prince is the future emperor, his father told him that whatever become his weakness, just eradicate it! What is a concubine? Not even worth to be considered as living being, you can kill her after you finish your enjoyments.

Even if in the end the ML said that everything he did was because he is in love with MC, but abduction is indeed abduction. Forced s*x is indeed r*pe. But in front of his status, abduction and r*pe became "Sell the body to climb a higher branch" instead.

MC was clearly a victim. Yet in front of power and status, she became a vixen.

Spoiler

About how she died in previous life. The story is like this. MC loved the ML. she wanted a child. ML didn't want her to have child. the crown princess was jealous of MC. she sent a wine mixed with medicine that would cause MC became infertile for the rest of her life. The wine at first sent to ML to check. After the check was finished, the ML let the subordinates sent the wine to MC. But in the middle, the medicine was changed into deadly poison instead. Thus, the death of MC. The ML was in rage, he then killed everyone. The crown princess wrote a letter to tell him about how she ordered those momos to change the wine into poisonous wine. At the time the ML wanted to kill the crown princess with his sword, she already died by hanged herself... After that, if I am not wrong, the ML committed su*cide by stabbing his own heart with a dagger. He prayed if there is a next life, he wants to treat MC better. And thus the reborn...

[collapse]

At the latter part of the story, the ML tried to explain that everything was a misunderstanding, that at first it was Ming family that deceived him by saying that MC didn't want to be his side concubine and want to kill herself, that they wanted to send Ming Ru to his side instead. ML then became very angry, he felt dejected and thus the abduction happened. Instead making the MC his side concubine, he made the MC as his outer mistress.

In my opinion, no matter what his reason, it couldn't change the fact that because of his selfish desire, he had committed such an evil deed. He said because he could not restraint his love towards MC that he made an irreparable mistake. He said because he saw MC's naked feet that was why he decided to make MC his side concubine. He said he knew that MC had engaged but then he was deceived by Ming family. He said that he want to treat MC well, to pamper her for the rest of her life. But in the end he was afraid with his own feeling that he didn't even realize his own indifference towards MC.

No matter what his reason, he was the culprit who indirectly killed the MC. Because of his indulgence, those people then had found a change to harm the MC. How to whitewash?? How?

Readers who give this story low rating simply came expecting something else, a story more mainstream for the acient rebirth + yandere male lead tropes but this story is very different from those often full of face-slapping and dogblood stories - this story is full of knives that just stab you from all angles.

Everything that is wrong with the yandere personality is here - the ML is not psychotic but he sees no problem in the actions he took against the FL. He claims that he loves her but he... more>> only loves the manic pixie dream he has of her and purely lusts after the FL. He makes no attempt to really get to know the FL, sending clothes and jewellery he would like to see the FL to dress in only for his pleasure and s*xual satisfaction and calling it affection. His treatment of her - as a s*x toy with no legal status - gave her no leverage or security which directly led to her death and rebirth. He only adjusts his approach after her almost successful attempt at running away but the adjustment is minimal, nothing really changes for the jaded FL.

The female lead is NOT s*upid, she is a weak woman born to a concubine who used to be a performer in a brothel. This type of pedigree is damning in a society that barely values women of such origin as potential bargain chips and little else. She has no power, no way to truly change her situation and her standard of living depends on how well she can please her captor.

The story premise is dark and very much a tragedy - I'm following the releases from the translation group instead of searching for possible MTL chapters so I do not know the ending but I'm fairly sure that if there will be any happiness, it will be hard-won and with a bitter aftertaste. There is simply too many things that cannot be truly washed away and glossed over to allow for a sugary-sweet happy ending and honestly this is what keeps me reading this story.

Not all stories have to have a happy ending and that's alright. <<less

I am an avid fan of male yandere and so I mtl this novel and read it for couple of days and boy, am I utterly disappointed. Not because of the shitty male lead, but because the story itself is tr*sh.
Spoiler

ffs. Look at the tags again. There's Yandere and Psychological tag so please don't expect a certain character or two who are sane or have wrinkles in their brain.

[collapse]
There's little to none character development for both of them!!! Grrr.. It's just pure dog blood drama that is too cringe and tiring as the following chapters unfold. The reason why I like yanderes are too see how they will turn a new leaf or 180 degree turn from their original trait but this one is just plain dogshit. Give me back my 3 days.

All you have to do is look at the novels recommended along with this to see what a horror show this novel is. It honestly makes me want to give up on believing there's good out there.

Romanticizing abuse and women's real life troubles is something I will never understand. Why do people love our pain so much? What is so fascinating about our suffering?

How could anyone fantasize about such a thing then write it out or enjoy reading about it like that's just a normal thing to do? Who actually... more>> likes this garbage?! <<less

Holy angst-fest batman! The ML is scum but 3-dimensional scum. Really well written. Definitely deserves the tragedy tag, but the ending is hopeful, in a bittersweet way.

This novel is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea so don’t read if you think you’ll hate it.

Attempting to read this novel as a traditional romance will utterly disappoint you. This novel alongside the author's other two works, His One Love and Wife Can't Escape, are not happy romances. They're explorations of unhealthy relationships.

From that viewpoint, I enjoyed this series. I like the author's series because the MCs don't excuse the abusive behavior. The MCs are fully aware they're living in insanity and react accordingly to the best of their meager ability in an obsessive relationship with uneven power dynamics.

Nearly everyone else in the series is... more>> complicit in her abuse which is a stark difference from His One Love and Wife Can't Escape where the MCs start off with good family members and as transmigrators. In other words, the MCs of those series have people that love them in a sane way and are have more objectivity knowing they're inside a book.

The MC of this series is the daughter of a concubine who used to work in a brothel. The only two people on her side are her maid and ex-fiancé, neither of which can help her once she's in the MLs hands so she's effectively alone. There are two people much further down the line that support her, but otherwise, she's surrounded by people that despise her as the MLs bed warming toy. It's not a book she read, it's her real life. A hopeless reality that she has to live through again.

MC isn't a badass, beat-up-the-scum FL, but I'd argue she's a strong woman in her own right. She's not suicidal despite her terrible situation. She doesn't lose sight of her goal and knows how to bide her time. She doesn't compromise on her beliefs even as the ML does his best to reshape her through coercion. She isn't scared of hard work. She recognizes her own strengths and doesn't feel the need to be someone she's not.

Spoiler

At first I was frustrated that the MC was averse to furthering her education since it seems like a no-brainer. I've been brainwashed by the "education equals good future" series. The author managed to gradually change my thoughts on it through MCs insights. Basic reading and writing may help her but the task itself is another one of ML's selfish acts of trying to shape her to his preference. It also takes time away from practicing the skills she's good at and will need to earn a living once she runs away.

There's a scene where one of MLs friends tries to ridicule her for being uneducated and unrefined by blatantly questioning whether she can do things noble ladies are expected to like playing the guqin. MC unashamedly with a completely straight face answers no repeatedly. She doesn't care if they judge her for it. She sees no point in placing value on what other people want. The opinion that matters is her own.

[collapse]

My favorite part of the novel is how the author handled the classic "clearing up the misunderstanding" scene.

Spoiler

MC was painfully poisoned to death with wine sent by ML in her first life.

It is revealed when ML regains his memories that he did not send her poisoned wine. MLs wife in the first life sent over drugged wine that would render MC infertile. His wife also fanned the flames of his anger by telling him that MC was meeting with other men. ML was irate and didn't want a child with an outside mistress regardless so when his servants caught the wine and brought it to his table, ML approved sending it over to MC. The drugged wine was switched out for poisoned wine and MC died.

This is where most similar plotlines of MC dying to MLs that have been awful the entire time justify the ML's actions. He was drugged, he was mentally ill, his family was being threatened, etc. ML had good intentions and always loved MC so it's all okay now!

Not.

MC has the best reaction I've seen. "Does it matter what was in that glass of wine? Not important. Zhao Shi's attitude towards her from the beginning to end was to treat her as a plaything, it never mattered whether it was death or injury. Unscrupulously violated her wishes and hurt her again and again."

The truth is irrelevant in the face of a lifetime of actions that proved he didn't value her. And the MC recognizes that while it is a "misunderstanding" in what was in the wine, the fact that he was going to unilaterally make choices about her body contrary to her wishes didn't change.

[collapse]

The contrast of 2nd ML and ML is an interesting point because they're actually more alike than different. The ML is an example of obsessiveness combined with possessiveness and pride while 2nd ML is obsessiveness without either. That is to say, obsessiveness itself is not inherently bad, it's selfishness.

Spoiler

More on this. 2nd ML only wants to be with her. He is revealed to be equally ruthless and scheming as the ML. He stays in prison for an extended period of time to cancel an engagement to another lady forced on him by the ML. He mu*ders an official who saw MC while she was pretending to be dead so the official could not report it to the ML. The difference is that the 2nd ML uses his ability for the MCs freedom while the ML uses it to trap her. The line below is the MCs quote that pretty much sums it up.

"I don't know how many people he killed. I don't know if he is as scheming as you said. I only know that he has never hurt me or forced me to do things that I don't like"

[collapse]

I almost didn't read this series having read a few reviews stating the MC strings along or takes advantage of the 2nd ML. I disagree with that assessment.

Spoiler

It's important to bear in mind that the MCs experience as a reincarnator is continuous. Right after five years in her first life, she's immediately thrust into the same situation without a break. By the time she escapes for two years by faking her death, she's experienced six years in the abusive relationship.

It's hinted that MC is tired of men in general. When the MLs sister drags her to a brothel to play, the MC admits in her own thoughts that even without fear of the ML, she had no interest in the men and looked around because she appreciated the beauty of the women that worked there. Same reaction when other people point out good looking men. Not trying to imply she's into women, more to the point that she needs to focus on herself before considering a relationship.

2nd ML bumps into her while she's on the run and he takes care of her. MC warms up to 2nd ML during this time and begins to show affection right up until the ML discovers she's still alive two years later. MCs inner monologue reveals that she's uncertain about if her feelings towards 2nd ML are love since it's been six years in her mind since she's spent time with him. I'd argue that two years to start recovering from extended abuse and redevelop a relationship are on the short end.

After she is dragged back to the ML's side, she is shown through actions and inner dialogue to genuinely love the 2nd ML and that's precisely why she keeps her distance. 2nd ML has already been sent to the border once and thrown in jail twice, almost dying the second time, by the jealous ML. It's clear that showing her love for him is akin to threatening his life.

To the moment of MCs last meeting with 2nd ML, the story is crystal clear that the one she loves is him, the one he loves is her, and they both are aware she's not voluntarily with the ML. There's nothing to clarify because they both know the truth.

[collapse]

There were parts to the plot I felt were unnecessary. For example, ML's discussions with his father and mother added nothing to the plot. Maybe these were added for fun Wife Can't Escape cameos, but Song Luan was brought up too many times to have contributed nothing. And despite reading with suspension of disbelief as I normally do with any series, some of the MCs actions were s*upid to the point I couldn't suspend anymore.

Spoiler

The escape plan itself was pretty good. She learned from her past failure by properly faking her death during a time everyone is occupied preparing for her sister and ML's wedding and not leaving a trail. Everything after that was pure idiocy that it's a miracle she made it two years...

MC doesn't even try to change her appearance. She wears a veil but takes it off in a banquet full of officials. People can also see her general features through the veil. I think she stops wearing the veil at some point as well. MC is informed that her photo is being circulated around the city and law enforcement yet does nothing to disguise. That's next level s*upidity.

She doesn't change her name either. I tried to justify this one. Maybe Ming Zhu is a common name like Anna Johnson or Jane Doe? MC teams up with a beggar her age and they register a household together so I figured it might have to do with the identity documents. But that makes no sense. How did they not catch her if she used her identity documents? If she didn't use her identity documents, how did she register? Why didn't she choose a different name? I had to give up trying to justify this one.

The place she heads to is her mother's hometown. It's the place she tried to escape to the first time. The ML knows she has an attachment to this place. It's the first place to logically search for her. Really?! Both the 2nd ML and ML head to the place she's hiding because they go to grieve her in the place they know she loves. The ML visits twice a year. Even the neighboring town would have significantly increased her chances of not getting caught.

[collapse]

Exasperating plot points aside, this novel was an excellent addition to the author's stories exploring futility of trying to escape obsessive, unhealthy love and how neither person will be fully happy in a forced relationship. <<less

As other reviews stated: the ML WAS and IS a tr*sh, well the tr*shiness is genetic so yeahh (since he is the son of ML of WCS). But in WCS the FL was decisive she knew she didnt like the tr*shy ML but was stuck with him and couldnt do anything but the FL of this novel is undecisive and it was indicated that she might forgive him in the long run also in WCS there was no 2ndML but in this there is and as always he is the... more>> almost perfect person to be with.. but since he was doomed to be the 2nd ML nothing can change his fate😅... also it seems that the tr*sh line will continue as the main leads daughter is showing the signs of early neurosis.. so I'm anticipating the release of the story of 3rd generation.

Well you cant say that the story is bad since the synopsis already indicated it to be like this therefore read it if you enjoy this kind of genre or else you will be left with the stuffy feeling at the end also the translation is good. <<less

So, at first I had high hopes cause apparently this is written by the same author of wife can't escape which I absolutely loved and adored. However, I didn't like it that much. Yes, it's pretty similar to wife can't escape in general but wife can't escape is so much superior. This one dragged for a little too long and the palace drama wasn't interesting and honestly nothing kept me hooked.

Both the FL and ML are average at best tbh. They aren't well written, the story in general isn't well... more>> written. I didn't find my self sympathizing with either nor caring about any of them. Also, although I do like messed up stuff I do have limits and things I don't like and let's just say the ML did several things that honestly made me want to slap the sh*t out of him but anyways. FL gave me a headache as she was so indecisive about how she felt towards a certain character. In conclusion, this tried to be wife can't escape but failed hard. It's not bad but it's not great.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the translator's effort and I must say they did great on the available chapters so far. <<less

finally finished reading and im kinda disappointed lol. there was a tag about the male lead being yandere but like his actions goes beyond yandere. im going to spoil like most of the story so you won't waste your time like I did. its going to be a bit long

Spoiler

the FL is just too soft, the first few chapters just made me wanted to stop reading as she just lets herself get bullied over and over again. like I understand that she can't do anything since she doesn't have any power but she at least could stand up for herself. the only thing that let me continue was that she really actually escapes and leave the ML as she said she would. I was glad she did since one, the ML keeps saying how he will 'spoil' her and give her want she wants, while denying that he has feelings for her. he also uses the excuse of her 'lowly' birth to not give her any title and also having a engagement with the s*upid fl's step sister. which made FL the target of criticisms and rumors of her using her appearance to seduce the ml. fast forward, she escapes and mets with the ex-fiance or second ML and says oh I don't really have any feelings as of now for him. this made me mad as she was literally giving the poor dude hope like if you knew you would have long cut the relationship. she later gives birth and almost died but didn't, it fast forward and the child is...i was surprised by how arrogant and spoiled the child was. like I understand spoiled since our FL tried her best to give the best for the child but I didn't expect her to become like a rich pamper lady and think everyone is below her and should give in to her. this is where the author just exemplifies the ml's genes. while during this entire ordeal, the ML was in misery and guilt (serves you right) and doesn't believe that the FL is dead, he also dreams about bits of the past. anyway, he finds her and uses the second ml's life to force her to go back to the capital with him (which makes me hella mad like the second ML doesn't deserve any of this well he did kill a bit of corrupted people but like compare to the ml? all he wanted was to love the FL while the FL takes advantage without knowing of his love.) the end? bruh, so effing s*upid she doesn't like him but still have this lingering feeling and doesn't want him dead while he uses his own body and health to force her to care about him and saying it doesn't matter if she doesn't like him, he could slowly make her like him.......

[collapse]

there was no character development, nada. I mean I did read the synopsis but I didn't know it will be this bad. <<less

Disappointing, unfortunately.

The author didn’t really explore anything that wasn’t already done in Wife Can’t Escape. Pretty much none of the characters are likable except the 2nd ML. Author also really stretched the suspension of disbelief when it comes to what people can get away with saying to a crown prince of ancient China. No one really faces consequences for anything.

Some spoilers:

MC

Spoiler

She spends the entire novel hating the ML for sending her poisoned wine which she could have easily figured out he didn’t based on the years of visions she had of him grieving her. At first she doesn’t still have feelings for her ex-fiancé but later develops them again and even wants to marry him. At the end of the novel she still meets up with him not-so-secretly. The extent of the love she has for the ML at the end is “I don’t want him to die.”

[collapse]

ML:

Spoiler

Honestly, he’s like a lite version of the ML of WCE. He basically gets progressively less yandere and by the end of the novel lets her leave the palace whenever she wants. He doesn’t even care that she meets up with her ex-fiancé because he’s just happy she doesn’t want him to die.

Tbh, it’s not that I like him or anything but he puts up with more than any crown prince ever actually would. Like FL’s friend broke into the palace to poison him and he doesn’t care at all. His ex-fiancée tried to harm FL multiple times and he basically only says if she tries one more time he’ll kill her.

[collapse]

Ex-fiancé/2ML:

Spoiler

Seems to genuinely love FL and will do anything for her, but it doesn’t really make sense that he’s okay at the end of the novel given all the times he’s arrested for shit. Story ends with him basically telling her all she has to do is call and he’ll come running

[collapse]

Daughter:

Spoiler

Carbon copy of ML. Total brat and future psychopath. FL doesn’t see it because she’s a clingy angel around mommy

I don't understand what kind of ML are you people looking for? Yes he is the scummiest of them all. Still if he is not the way he is would there be any story?

He's the crown prince! At the era he is in he has every right to be arrogant, selfish and forcefull. He is doing so because he liked Zhu Zhu that much!

He is like a spoiled child in my eyes.
Spoiler

At least he takes care of only her and not just throw her away the moment she did not obey everything he says. Even the time he took interest to her sister way back many chaps ago he still make sure to try to reassure her.

[collapse]

I mean suuuure he's doing things we don't like. I mean if he starts following all she wants would there be any premise to this story? It wouldn't also be exciting! If you wanted fluff you're looking on the wrong place.

There's so many tags to let you know what to expect. Did you not read any of it?

Anyway, love the pacing of this story and I really can't wait to know how she would get pregnant and how she would run away. Translation is very on point too! Thanks!!!

With a synopsis like that you pretty much who ML from the get go.

Really bad when you have a total scum ML. Whats good was that the reason he did what he did was already stated in the synopsis. Oh boy I'd rather have this story a revenge story not some ML dominating a woman like his property.

While I like angst but I dont support toxic love like this.

Meh. Simply boring. I came here for the crazy yandere but was left underwhelmed. While the crown price is a possessive and obsessive tr*shy ML, he's a character lacking in many things, including personality. While some of his background was established and there is potential galore, the author never quite makes him intrguing or indeed even interesting. he is always cold, straight as a pine (yep, I think I read this about 10 times in 2 hours), talks with a chill and is seen as a model of propriety by... more>> everyone. BOOORING! Where is you real face? The FL is, as per usual with these novels, a woman who was beaten emotionally and physically, so is. While this is quite realistic, and people who grew up in circumstances like her are damaged, I prefer my FL to be a bit more... Alluring, if you get my meaning. And it seems that most C-novels don't quite have this. FL are often weak, meek and docile, and this simply isn's a trope I enjoy devouring (and I think most people agree). The background characters are all one dimensional and paper thin, and there is minimal political/social scheming structure. World building is non existant.

But what pushed me over the edge is that FL escapes, after careful planning and pondering, only to be returned two chaps later! What! That really made me drop this. The woman tried so hard, and finally did something she wanted, after being thrown around like a rag dol and then kept in a golden cage, and this is how you frame it in the story? While not complete waste, it's still far from anything worthwhile. Ah meh. <<less

As Yendere lovers im quite dissapointed. Idk if I should like the story or strongly hates it. I gave it three star bc the translator (thank u so much, ily)

Spoiler

I hate it bc It's true ML was the one who (inderectly) killed her.

It's sheng ling, under disguise want to send her some medicine that prevent her from having a child in this lifetime. ML approve the idea, and send it to her without knowing the medicine was switched. And yea FL died. Filled with rage ML killed everyone but let sheng ling go (for a few years according to MTL) when he wanted to end her life, sheng ling comit su*cide.

For a moment I forgot this author really loves creating plot where the victim end up with her killer.

[collapse]

And the fact she cant run away from his just make me bitter.

FYI im a huge fat fan for this kinda of plot, call me weird and nasty but yea this is my guilty pleasure. I like it when ML try to atone his mistakes, but then again It's so similar to wife cant excape

and I hate it terribly. The way FL just accept it, her life to end like this. I hate so bad, why cant he just suffer more for his entire friciking life.

I cant. I hate it but at the same time this is my gulity pleasure. Smh

Conclusion is, this plot is so fricking similar to wife cant excape. Dont read it if you want satisfying ending, the ending kinda left me with rage. I really wanted to kill ML rn

Not to forget he's just so effing selfish, s*upid to the fricking core and ugh hateable.

Spoiler

there's even a sceme where he admit he's the one who inderectly killed her, and somehow saying "zhu zhu cant you forget what happend in the past"

THIS MAD HAD AUDACITY OMFG ?

[collapse]

  • I hate him so bad equally hate him as I hate ML from wife cant excape (he's A BIT better since he aint torturing her and even burn her to death like WCE ML)

I read it halfway of the English translations before I even understood that ML is actually the son from Wife Can’t Escape. Now I’m confused. When did he became crown prince? If he’s Crown Prince, when did his parents become emperor and empress? I’m so confused... And they made it seem like he was Crown Prince since young but even reading the epilogues of Wife Cant Escape, I don’t recall him getting crowned at all.

Aside from that, the book wasn’t really interesting. I only completed it just to see how... more>> far these two would go. Answer: not far at all 😆

Both leads weren’t likeable at all. Surprisingly I don’t even like female lead. Normally I’ll make exceptions for the female leads because of the situations they find themselves in. But her character/personality just wasn’t likeable. I can’t put my finger on why but that’s what it is.

Writing wise- there’s quite a few plot holes or attempts at white washing ML. One plot hole I recalled was that right at the beginning, female lead mentions how she managed to stay out of trouble from her family is not causing trouble or grabbing attention. And then it was mentioned later that the main daughter always caused trouble for her because she was just so beautiful, she put all women and flowers to shame. Lmao ok they didn’t exaggerate it that bad but yea, oh she was bullied cuz she’s sooooo beautiful. And another one was that she had no talent, especially more so after being kidnapped by the crown prince. Cuz he just wanted her as a beautiful vase to look at. But in one chapter, it was mentioned that she was actually really good at dancing and have a very flexible body. Ummmm that’s just a insult to real dancers who goes through heavy training on the daily to keep up. I thought all she did was eat sleep and stay pretty for Crown Prince?? It was so pointless to even mention her dancing talent considering the fact that it never came up once again. There’s a few I noticed but I can’t recall them at once.
Oh, and just because she has a sweet tooth, somehow it transferred to her being good at baking for someone who hardly cook/bake before. Enough that it gained popularity.

If anything, I would re-read the beginning arc because it was intriguing but it definitely got boring in the middle and ending arcs. <<less

The story is full of angst before it becomes a lot peaceful near the end. But the angst is the kind of angst I enjoyed reading atm. The mtl is not too hard to understand either. Thank you for the team who translated the early chapters of this novel. I binge-read the rest of the novel because it's not too long and I'm too impatient to know what happens next^^

So I have read this only until Chap 5, and I will keep updating my review so that people won't give up on this one yet.

Up until chap 5 it appears that the tone of this story is going to be something heartwrenching where ML was really mean to FL in the previous life. I personally like it and see nothing absurd or crazy abusive yet (hence, I didn't get some other comment so much.) I love 'wife can't escape' kindoff novel so I will just stay and hang in... more>> here until it will we can see more what this novel have to offer.

:) And the translation is also pretty good. So don't get discourage guys! <<less

I understand that some people like extreme anguish trope depicted in this novel but, please remove tag "romance" from genre section. It was plainly and simply a "tragedy"! I was really hoping for the FL to end up with second ml, but what to do, she succumbed to Stockholm syndrome. Even Stockholm syndrome is a slow process but it happened really fast here.

Oh, my agony! The things I read! I do hate myself!

This story is bizarre...

So I knew male lead would be a ‘yandere’ or whatever but what I read was a iceblock of a man whose every move is just scummy. You love possessing her only to realise you love her. Instead of trying to be decent about it, you just act even more overbearing and shit. Like?

I think this author just loves making terrible couples with horrible interactions, and nobody should try to hit me with the ‘but that is what you came for’ line, I think anybody who... more>> cl**ked on this thought there would be a full redemption arc and well yes in the end but it felt heavy rushed compared to its slow start.

That’s an issue: pacing.

But then we get to our fl, who switches from weak and pitiable to vicious. I understand that, but why did it take so long. She out of all the characters who consist of cannon fodders and mob villains

overall this story I will say could be worse but it has already crossed the line of ‘fairly terrible’ <<less
