Once she woke up, Gu Xuejiao became the arrogant and willful stepsister of the book’s male lead. Her specialty resided in breaking the relationship between the male and female lead… she is the nth female character.

Gu Xuejiao thought about this character´s ending. A desolate, abhorrent annihilation… and decided it’s better to continue to practice the Wu San workbooks she just finished in her last life.

The Cheng family watched in alarm:

The girl who was rebellious, and only served to let others worry; asked with a simple expression:

“Do you think it’s better for me to apply to Tsinghua University or Beijing University?”

Cheng family: ….

This story is just a little too run-on for my liking. I don't mind length but it feels like there were several chunks where nothing really happened. The story also touches on su*cide which I honestly was not expecting.

The FL is a transmigrator who went from being at the end of her high school years to being 17 again (only 2 years). She has always been dedicated to learning and wanted to push herself to get high marks so she just takes that up again. Early on, she rescues the... more>> ML from a car accident and then gains him as a powerful backer through life (helps her with harder questions, gives her advice, etc). The FL doesn't really have any friends and is incredibly EQ stunted (she is referred to as a turtle or tortoise repeatedly).

The ML is ten years older and has an aversion to people at the start of the story. Rescued by the FL, he discovers that he can actually be around her and almost immediately falls in love. Knowing that she is still a minor, he does not pursue a romantic entanglement with her but does do everything he can to help her from the background.

The ML is rather manipulative but he doesn't groom the FL. His actions could be equivalent to a family friend constantly being there to help out. It's just that his intentions are romantic which is why people might find it squicky. The actual attempts at romancing do not begin until more than halfway through the story, the ML doesn't do any kind of romantic acts before then (not even hugging).

This story is kind of a mix of study hard to be what you want and not letting your life be derailed because of emotions.

Spoiler

The FL's deskmate falls in love with her but she never notices until he confesses which sours their friendship. He pines for her for the rest of his life.

And then we have the FL's college friend who dies which drives the friend's boyfriend insane.

[collapse]

The ending is also kind of weird. It's satisfactory but at the same time feels incomplete. Plus the switch from the FL and ML to "Rice Cakes" was also a bit strange and kind of jarring.

Well, at least the story lives up to attending Tsinghua because she did that before she fell in love. <<less

5/5 stars, a real hidden gem!

This novel... I can’t even put to words on how good it is. Yes it’s your typical transmigration into a novel as a tr*shy character and becomes godly later on BUT it’s sooooo friggin’ good!!

This is one of the better ones with the same cliche storyline except this time our FL, Gu Xue Jiao, isn’t overpowered with the overused skill sets that you would commonly see in other novels (medicine, business, acting) INSTEAD she’s a hardworking mathematician that strives hard in the math, physics, and... more>> astronomy. AND better yet, the novel actually focuses more on her education (and goes into quite a lot of details) and progressing rather than her dilly dallying with useless and annoying face slapping all the time. There are moments of face slapping scenes but they weren’t the main point of the novel, they’re actually just a side dish that comes with the main dish in this case. They’re irrelevant and FL can hardly care about them so I end up not caring about forgetting about them too. Although the author makes FL smart, she’s not the genius kind of smart but the hardworking kind of smart. There were lots of other big giants in the story that makes FL look like nothing (ie Chu Sheng, Yang Zhan, Zhang Yan, etc) and I especially appreciated the amount of elders and professors they have for FL to learn under and assist.

ML, Lin Zhihua, is sooooo good. Soooo good and too perfect. Usually I’m more picky on characters having a breakthrough and prefer my characters to be more rounded but I actually don’t mind ML being a flat character. He doesn’t have much depth in his personality and he’s more of this omnipotent and omniscient character that ends up falling in love with the FL. He is raised to be more mature and had to grow up early and in doing so, it basically killed off any emotions and interests he once had, and often times he was described as a “dying wood” and a “human robot”. But he ends up finding the true meaning of life and emotions when he ends up falling in FL after she saves him from a car accident that was supposed to kill him in OG storyline. He’s just an adorable guy that helps out FL without being too over-controlling and obsessive. He gives her plenty of space and help and is willing to wait for her (aside from some of his low key naughty scheming here and there keke).

I don’t want to go too much into details because it’ll end up being too long but I love how realistic the story is with the different type of scenarios and circumstances the FL has to come face to face with.

Her family and the scenes with them leaves such a sweet filling in your mouth it’s hard to not love reading it. It brings so much happiness and tears in my eyes because I’m so glad that it worked out for them. ANd like al the other reviews, stepdad (Cheng Shul) for the win!! He deserves the title of ‘best dad’ and ‘best husband’ for not neglecting and trying to understand FL as well as reprimanding FL’s mom (Li Sitong) for her ways of trying to deal with OG FL. A round of applause I must say!!

The Shu LanxYu Shen story left such a terrible bittersweet taste but it made me cry so much because it just goes to show how anything can happen in real life. You never know when that friend or relative of yours can say goodbye to you when you least expect it.

The side story of Jiaxue and final year of highschool and prepping for the big exam/college got me bawling too. It brought up so much memories and emotions of when I was in school and how much stress and work seniors had at that time.

My favorite part of the novel were the last 3 chapters, it made me tear up so much. I couldn’t stop myself from crying so much. Author really knows how to bring out the waterworks I swear. I’m not gonna spoil it, it’s so beautiful I can’t even...

As for the negative reviews, eh, I feel like they’re focusing on the wrong stuff and not actually the main point of the novel. But who am I to judge and say they’re incorrect so just take it with a grain of salt. I personally think the main objective of this novel and the message the author was trying to get across is to live your life the way you want it, have no regrets, don’t be scared of the things that may come your way and don’t run away from it. If it comes, it comes but don’t be too focused on it or else it’ll throw you off course and let it hold you back. Keep on moving, there are ups and down in life so live life to the fullest and be happy. Appreciate the good and the bad, that’s just how life is.

A lot of the novel made me feel nostalgic and often times it makes one reminisce and appreciate those kind of memories often. There were alot of profound life lessons, it almost felt as if I was talking to the author and could feel their emotions, opinions, and views coming out from the story. Honestly, I ’ve actually had to reconsider and question about some stuff in my own life. So if I had a chance I would love to meet author one day, I feel like I could learn so much from them...

I love this novel so much... I don’t even know how to explain it, it’s like, yeah these people and the storyline are FICTIONAL but at the same time you can associate the basic life lessons/characters to so many things in your life (friends, family, school, work, etc). It makes you think and wonder, that kind of feeling I get from a novel is very rare so trust me when I say this novel is good! I also think this novel will hit different depending on who’s reading it. It’ll be much more meaningful to a person that’s passed their college years and have experienced life’s up and downs.

Overall highly highly recommended!! Give the novel a try (it might be boring if you hate school and science lol). <<less

Romance reminds me a bit of the novel 'Daddy Long Legs'. I'm sure people protest, call it 'grooming', etc. But honestly it's a fantasy story and the guy never once makes her uncomfortable or asks for a single favor, never even calls her and encourages her to make up her own mind. She even disagrees with him, and he's super happy that she does and how calm and clever she is. Doesn't sound like 'grooming' does it?

In todays world of TikTok and twitter, I'm not surprised by the low reviews... more>> and scandalous gasps over a story where nothing bad happens, but the possibility is enough for people to clutch their pearls over a would-be scenario that they create in their own head. Annoying to say the least. If people are that concerned then maybe join a real world organization that helps actual people instead of leaving huffy reviews over a fictional novel, where again, nothing happened.

For the actual review though, I did enjoy how many characters get development. Even side characters or the fodder ones. And it's not immediate either which makes it more realistic. People don't change in a day, but as they experienced different viewpoints, they end up changing and that happens in the story as well.

This novel has some serious themes it touches upon as well. No spoilers, but it gives depth to the world created and the MC gains wisdom too.

I'd take 1 star off for the ending and the last few chapters. They were just dull and I don't like parents not caring for their kid and it being some sort of comedy. It's an overdone joke of the dad fighting the son for time with mom. Forgot to give one less star actually tho, my bad.

Other than that, for a MAJOR chunk of the story; the ML is more of a helpline for the MC than any sort of romantic interest. Literally nothing happens, other than following the MC as she gets a second chance at life. It's a relaxing slice of life that has enough drama to keep things interesting.

PS: if you're truly concerned about the 'grooming', just look at the number people who gave it low reviews vs the people who didn't. Might give an idea of which bunch of people is just being loud over a molehill. <<less

2 and half stars

This book put me through such a rollercoaster of emotions. I almost hated how it thrust me into such realistic & poignant scenes at times.

I wish the story could have been condensed; especially because the writing wasn't literary but involved a lot of pop culture vocabulary. But I read it all anyway.

... more>> 3 words for the psychiatrist. I am. Disgusted. This so called "friend" avoid at all costs in real life.

  • He encouraged ML to groom and court a minor
  • He doesn't really help ML get to the bottom of his mysophobia. He is just like everyone else, trying to get ML an heir
  • He discloses his clients information to the parents
  • He is just so messed up. I also don't appreciate the author bringing up mental problems only to treat the topic so lightly.
Anyway. This story gave me 2nd ML syndrome.

  • As much as ML was a great mentor & support for fl, the blatant grooming put me off. E.g. Stalking her, manipulating her to dislike other boys, taking her home without parents' consent.
  • I loved Yi Tianyu for the fl. I felt their camaraderie was great. He allowed FL to act her age & have fun from all the studying. However, I wish he had his own happy ending.
I found the fl's mum to be the most complex character. I strongly disliked her selfishness and irresponsibility in the beginning

  • She cared more about her reputation than fl
  • Always using FL to act against in-laws and ex-husband
  • Most importantly, encouraged MC to have a bad relationship with the dad. (Both parents wrongly handled their parental responsibilities after divorce)
However, she had serious character growth after her husband called her out on bs. I appreciated that she could admit her faults and work on them throughout the book. I wished the FL gave her a 2nd chance & that she could learn to forgive herself for past mistakes. This book really taught me that parents are humans too.

  • It was lovely to see the whole family getting closer.
On the other hand, some parents were truly tr*sh

  • Parents of ML who forced him to procreate
  • Parents of antagonists who forced their children to be competitive
I think the fl's character was closer to the naive 16yr old novel setting than an 18yr old who had struggled in life.

  • She displayed zero cautiousness around ml, even after discovering his high profile identity.
Anyway I greatly enjoyed this book. <<less

Honestly...I kept in mind that MC is 2 years older when she went over. Therefore, I did not see this as grooming. Sure, the ML is kinda creepy BUT!!!! But, he DOES NOT make the choices for her. He let's her do what she wants and he waited.

In addition, this is a MC that has a clear goal in mind. She won't get distracted and does what she can with what she can and her personality doesn't change.

Seriously, yall. If I had someone willing to wait for me and theyre... more>> the best of the best and had my interests in their heart...I am positively sure...I'll fall in love with them and marry them. Hahaha. But... you don't hear about that type anymore.

Anyways, the gap doesn't bother me. I prefer the age that the ML is. It seemed more realistic for the way he presented himself and what his occupation is. TRUST ME, you would not want a 18 to 21 year old trying to do what the ML is doing.

Thank you to the translator (s?). They did an awesome job. I just can't believe I read 400+ chapters but it's really not! Heheh. <<less

I'm not going to leave a rating just yet because I've only read till chapter 109 till now. But I really wanted to share my two cents about this book.

Most of the other reviews are about the very questionable relationship between the ML and FL and honestly, I can genuinely see why they would feel concerned. With how far into the story I've gotten, they have a seemingly innocent friendship and at first I genuinely thought that it was too grey of an area to judge but knowing how the... more>> ML talks about his feelings behind the scenes and how he tries to get close to her, it makes me uneasy.

BUT BUT BUT BUT and please hear me out. Aside from this very sorry excuse of grooming being labelled "romance", I'm enjoying everything else about this story.

I particularly enjoy how each character is fleshed out quite well and that includes the antagonists. Everyone is realistic and flawed just enough to be believable.

The adult characters around FL are particularly complex in the way they interact with the FL. Most of them have valid reasons to doubt FL considering the fact that before the current FL occupied this body, her reputation was bad and I mean, bad. Amd when they do change, it doesn't immediately happen because "oh FL is so great I should humble myself" but it's gradual, in that they battle their pride, their disbelief, their dissatisfaction, to eventually realise that they (favorite example, FL's current mom) were also at fault in so many instances before and they should accept that FL has changed for the better now.

It's the characters that drive the story progress which is not quite as shallow as I was expecting, but it does test your patience to an extent. The story honestly feels like a coming of age story where a bunch of teenagers are trying their best to come out on top of each other, but they're gripped with frustration and all sorts of nasty consequences over their results (it's wayyy more complicated than this but I don't have the mental capacity to talk about it right now lol), but I like that it sets the precedent for realistic scenarios where they're also just being teenagers to an extent (there are a lot of these teens' faults that I blame on their parents who indulge and spoil them).

FL herself is a hardworker and is sometimes a little too perfect, but she's definitely sensible enough for her age and not overpowered.

There's so much I want to say and I'll probably edit this in the future, but for now i'll just leave it at this. <<less

The ML is way too old for her. I don't care that her soul is older, I still feel off put because the age difference. Him being the only real fried she has right now feels extra creepy. Idk, some people may like it, but in my opinion if you introduce the MC and love interest before they are at reasonable ages to make this not creepy, you end up with a light grooming setting. This is like the third time I've seen this with relationships in rebirthing while in... more>> highschool. None of those handles it well. <<less

anyway what got me mad was something else.. I dont know if anyone found it odd or not Its about ML, I mean yes he was there every time whenever MC was alone walking or siting by herself.. dont you think its creepy ?? ML is literary stalking her. he follows her every move by his car. that staking bro. dont you have any other job to do? why follow her every single day dont give me the shitty reason that to save her.. save her from what?? the poor villain who ML thought as thread to MC wasnt even that powerful, ML could handle them from the binging without even directly involved.. but what he did was stalking MC using those as an excuse... dealing with them at the last wasnt even that hard task.... anyway they fall in love with each other so it worked somehow...

overall this story is cool. try giving a shot.. when you need some motivation to study <<less

This might get better after a few chapters or so but I'm not about to waste my time like that--

I don't even know what I expected, its a pretty generic love story, the only 'unique' thing about it are the characters' personality just like another review said. What got me hooked in the first place was the FL who was obsessed with studying, I thought this was gonna be different because of the ratings but eh. As soon as I saw the ML's hospital scene I could've sworn that I... more>> already predicted what would happen in the future right then and there, and like I said in the beginning maybe it would get better in the future but I'd rather not waste my time on reading something that has more chance in following what I already predicted rather than surprising me because lets face it theres probably hundreds of other stories out there that are similar to this one maybe even better at that, but who knows maybe you'll like it give it a try based on the other reviews ig? Everyone has their own different opinions this is just mine lol, all in all it's just not something I'd be interested enough in to read 200+ chapters of. <<less

Story was alright. It read like any other generic story if it weren't for ML and FL.

Spoiler

I don't mind the age difference. I don't even mind that the ML and FL met each other for the first time when FL was underage. But having sexual/ romantic undertones to their relationship when one partner is underage is creepy as heck and I would probably liked it a lot more if the FL took initiative to stay away from the ML.

The ML didn't seem to add any value to the story at all. The deskmate guy seemed better suited for FL. He had screentime, liked the girl, he knew about her. It would have been cool to read their story instead of having one person who is obsessed with studies and the other person who is obsessed with an underage girl.

Other than addressing that she is underage, the ML doesn't seem to do anything. His friend / teacher / secretary, none of them seem to do anything to take steps to stop the ML.

Heck, I wouldn't have minded the step-brother as a potential partner (provided the two of them met each later in life, like when they were teenagers or something).

[collapse]

Overall, an okay story, if I could only crop out the ML from it. <<less

so far the MC is the most s*upid naive FL ever!! Like so many ppl throw insults to her left and right and I get that she doesnt want to fight back but she should at least maintain her dignity literally everyone steps on her like tr*sh and she just takes it all in and confide to the creepy ml. I honestly don’t think it’s as horrible as the other comments say.

  • ML is definitely not grooming FL if you think about the interaction between them are cute and wholesome. Both of them are definitely are establishing trust betwen each other and just truly care for the other
  • FL gradually becomes closer to her family and they start communicating between each other more.
  • FL is also very hardworking. I liked how she doesn’t get first place directly at the first exam she took when she got her body. She isn’t a genuis or very OP.

Hmm there were so many people defending this novel so I gave it a go and my analysis says from their 2nd interaction

ML is manipulative, ML is disgusting, ML is pedo for taking interest in a 16y.o girl who saved his ass from burning. He should've waited in the sidelines until she grows up and becomes an adult then would've gifted her "couples watch" hmm I would've respected him more if he was honest in their first reaction like you dipsh*t shes a child.

Like no excuse for pe*ophilia. I've... more>> read so many historical CN novels but I can understand those since those were "historical" and ML wasn't that old either mostly ML's are like 18 and FL 16 or smth.

But in current time line its wayyy beyond disgusting idk what author was thinking but I wanna say that annoying deskmate of hers would've been better ML. Peridot.

P.S: I won't rate it though cause I feel like it was my rage review.

Currently @ ch. 92 of the fan translation. I'll probably MTL the rest.

Dear author, I can hear the face slaps across the screen, keep it coming!!!

I like the overall concept of the story, a orphan girl suddenly becoming as a arrogant and willful stepsister of a book’s male lead and wanting the change the story is really amazing. I'm sucker for these kind of stories... but I honestly dont know how to feel about the romance here.

Once again, we have a male lead who acts like very cold outside but... more>> warm inside chasing a girl. This time, however, the girl is 16 years old. While the age difference was never pointed exactly and it's probably only like 5-6 years, his attitude kinda bothers me. It goes from cute to questionable and stalking then back to cute again real fast and I dont like the way he shamesly shoehorns himself into every aspect of her life. Of course our female lead doesnt even realize it because she's too dense which sucks because SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SMART!!!

For now, it feels like more like he is kinda stalking kinda ''guiding her to the right choices and the path'' instead of some actual ''grooming'' so I'll let it pass. If the male lead crosses any lines though ; YOU. ARE. DEAD. MAN.

I like the other aspects of the story such as the the mother daughter relationship and the way it progresses. I like the way Li Sitong understands her actions as a mother impacts her child and she cant just change things around now because her daughter, Gu Xuejiao, has suddenly changed and finally doing good for herself.

I feel like it is something true in almost all Asian like cultures including my own. I dont remember how many times my mother had spout things like what Li Sitong says when I was a teen and I did it to my mother as well. I like the way the story portrays that relationship, with ups and downs, just like in the real life.

I also like Gu Xuejiao's relationship with her step-father and the 2nd male lead whom is probably going to be friendzoned soon. Ah, such a nice guy. They never get the girl do they? (ಥ ͜ʖಥ)

To sum up; so far so good.

... Will go back to this review when I MTL this sh*t and end up with my eyes bleeding. <<less

  • I am not good at writing reviews so I will just say my opinion about it.
  • The story is a masterpiece that I truly appreciated the way the ML and FL grew up together understanding, trusting, loving each other is the thing I liked most.
  • The ML is the best ML I have seen in many novels, the way he cared about and loved the MC is heart-rending, how he understand, encourage and protect her is truly amazing whatever she doesn't know he teaches her when she is sad he is there for her and no matter how much time pass he is patiently waiting for her even when he is older than her and fears that she will leave him for a younger person he doesn't tie her to him, even if he will go mad without her he isn't clinging he supports her to achieve her dreams.
  • The family interactions at the beginning was frustrating but after that grew heart-warming.
  • The novel is a masterpiece and a gem, if I had to name two things I didn't like in the novel is that in the ending the rival ML didn't get the good ending I waited for even after so long time passed and how the ML in the beginning looked more like a father than a love interest.

I like the plot and the characters but it's the parents that bothers me. The mother is at fault for not trusting and caring about her child the way she should which is why the original became the way she is. The whole jumping to conclusions and always supporting other people's child is just..... well. It's a good read though. MC is very likeable and logical.

I couldn't wait for the translation and binge read it in mtl.

This is such a gem and a wholesome story.

It's a slow burn romance. ML watches over FL and patiently waits for her to grow up and achieve her dreams. There's not much of a third party, mostly troublesome family members.

... more>> There's also the character development; you don't just forgive and forget. FL is not exactly weak, she's very much mature and focused. ML knows what FL wants and supports her.

It's a wonderful story. I wasn't really going to give it a 5... but seriously, the last bits and extras got to me and I'm still crying while reviewing.

Thank you translator for picking this up. Might read it again once the translation is complete. ❤️ <<less
