Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Abandoned by the Movie Star

Description

Gu Qingchi transmigrated into an insignificant cannon fodder. The author didn’t set any of the details of the cannon fodder’s character settings, so everything was randomly generated.

Then, somehow, he ended up becoming the most beautiful person in the entire novel.

However, it didn’t matter. As a cannon fodder with two sentences in the book i.e. Marriage & Divorce, he is unable to leave the barest trace in the world till the divorce! His existence was forgotten & he was left completely isolated.

Gorgeous beyond measure, after finishing the cannon fodder storyline, Gu Qingchi could debut by relying on his face alone.

When the well-known movie star’s love affair was exposed, his fans were furious and ready to take this guy down, but ended up being captivated by his beauty.

I was quite surprised when I read this story, because I really didn't have high expectations at first, and *BOOM* the fact that this story took a serious route surprised me.

So yeah, overall the story is a good... I mean there may be slight flaws at the story, but other than the fact that the story doesn't really focus too much on MC acting career, there aren't any major flaws actually.

Maybe the only thing that I feel less comfortable is the twist nearing the end of the story.

It is said that ML is not a human, but a kind of god, who is the core of the universe.

Even though this is indeed connected with several plot points in the story, like the reason why the MC and his family have overlapping memories and more.

It still doesn't change the fact that these things really didn't match the concept of the story that has been told so far, it's like the author was changing the whole story concept just for this twist.

To be honest it would be better if the author used reincarnation theory or alternative universe for the twist.

It's been a while since I've seen an MC so badly pitted by a transmigration setting. This is not a happy story -- the author understands clinical depression and schizophrenia, and you're going to be gut-punched with it. Be you a sufferer or a caregiver, who inevitably also experiences suffering, be prepared: things don't get better for an exact

Content warnings aside, the ML character growth and redemption arc is very good. Keep reading! There is light at the end of the tunnel!

That being said, the author puts in some very obvious golden fingers and other buffs, which rather interrupts the serious nature of what's happening on an emotional level. This novel is, at its heart, a transmigration story with very unrealistic elements in it. Making the MC some incomparable Adonis should not be the only way to get silly young readers to empathise with his struggles. In fact, I felt it was a distraction -- far too many words were devoted to it, and it made the MC less than human. It makes me feel like the only reason he survives is pampering from the people he attracts with his beauty and his birthright, which is essentially EASY MODE FOR DUMMIES; the fact that he recovers only under these unattainable conditions makes it less memorable. The most unrealistic of all is the concept of "complete recovery" not only for him but others who have been struggling with trauma for years (the addictions just disappear wtf, if only life were like this), and many plot holes were left behind by the end -- a common problem for writers who are forced to publish chapter by chapter without comprehensive editing. There are other niggling problems that have clearly pushed the buttons on some other reviewers on NU.

Nonetheless, the quality of the writing + translation is high, the author is knowledgeable and respectful of delicate topics, and the conversations it inspired amongst the Chinese audience was socially responsible.

I had so much fun reading this! Early part of novel focuses on mc's acting career. Then slowly it delves into the romantic tension between MC and ml. And the later part of the story primarily focuses on how MC is an emotionally and mentally wrecked person. All I can say is that I cried, I cried, and I cried. Highly recommended!

The amount of empathy I feel for the Gu Qingchi is insane. His character and emotions were portrayed in a very realistic and true way.

5 stars no doubt just for the main character and if I could another 4 stars for the male lead (the only reason he ain't a 5 is due to the fact that he didn't even see who he got married to... or any details about the divorce... I mean his spouse spent 2 years in an abandoned home by himself the least the ML could... more>> do was check his situation.)

Overall I find this read to be absolutely perfect. I never had such a well paced novel, that kept me curious AND that had BOTH an amazing and such real main character and male lead in one story.

Thank you to the Author and Translator- Can't wait till the 22 remaining chapters are translated, thank you. <<less

I feel like this is two separate books, and I like the second one better. The first is fairly straightforward -- beautiful MC gets lots of breaks because he is beautiful, has a strange and tragic past, and is the polar opposite of the ML.

But props to the author, because the treatment and description of depression in the second half is carefully and beautifully done, and the impact of the MC's struggles on the people around him is also sensitively handled. It was really moving. I had finished it in... more>> mtl after reading the first few chapters and am now re-reading along with the new translation releases. <<less

Your neglect for a long period of time may make you miss someone else's desperate cry. So whenever someone is trying to reach out to you try to be patient enough to clearly understand their motives or problems while doing what you feel is the right choice for both of you.

Depression is a disease just like any other physical diseases. So it's first off okay to have and second off important to deal with like any other health issue out there.

Ignorant people deserve to get a chance to atone the... more>> mistakes they unknowingly do. The reason its called a mistake and not a crime is because they didn't know.

Everyone has their own problems to deal with. They may look fine outwardly but they may be struggling. Everyone's morals are different. So you don't have a right to comment on the life choices they made unless it is wrong according to the law. Its okay to judge their actions and stay away from them if you're uncomfortable but putting them down when you don't personally know or care for them is totally messed up.

Grouping up for a negative cause is unhealthy. If you have so much time to spare why not do more positive stuff? Doesn't hurt anyone that way. Keep in mind that bullying is real. Very much so. Your single word may start a butterfly effect of either getting that person out of an abyss or pushing them to death. Choose wisely.

That's what I learnt from this... <<less

MC sent messages to MLs number every day like a diary. When ML opened his spare phone he found MCs messages. The message starts as hopeful then it became depressing. ML could actually see MC falling into the abyss just by reading the messages.

ML did regret that he didnt even check who he is married to. He actually blame himself.

Spoiler

ML thought that the person he married to was a gold digger who only like money so he didnt bother knowing. When he realize it was MC, he regretted it. He realize that MC is also a victim like him. A young man who supposed to be studying and enjoying life of a teenager was abandoned by his so called family.

MC attempted su*cide but was saved by ML.

It was found out that MC was taken from his real family thats why his so called mother arrange a marriage for him.

His real family is actually nice. His real mom love him so much. They help him overcome his depression along side with ML.

This novel is an eye opener for me.

I can't fully understand depression and havent experience bullying, but Gu Qingchis story made me realize how awful it is. It shows how the parents and love ones of these people handle the situation. The healing is not a quick process but it was satisfying to finally see GQC happy in the end. <<less

I feel like I abused myself reading this story. My tears never stop as I feel for Gu Qingchi.

At first I thought this would be the standard face-slapping trope where the MC pay back all his suffering yada yada. But.. It's not.

Many reviewers have already spilled the content, so I won't write it down as I can't write it as beautifully as theirs.

I just don't expect this gem to be hidden so deep, and I don't regret reading it in one sitting until completed (I MTL-ed, anw). This novel is... more>> about MC's depression, how he cope with it; it's also about ML's love and regret, how he tried hard to mend his wrongs; it's also about family and their unending love for its member.

i have to say the premise was quite refreshing... unlike the other transmigration novels I've read (so far), it did not portray the protagonist as someone who became successful all the way after transmigrating, and instead provided a more ‘realistic’ reaction and behavior from someone who has transmigrated into a book (in my opinion at least)... it shed a bit of light on how some individuals deal and cope with depression and anxiety, and how important it is to have people supporting them as they go through their episodes, not... more>> forcing them to heal themselves but just being there to provide comfort and reassurance when they need it... good read <<less

I remember finding this story on mtl and searching it on novelupdates only to find out this novel doesn't have any translation yet. So, I decided to just read it based on the synopsis. Just bear in mind, that I don't usually read novel w depression tag but this time because I overlook it, by the time I realise abt it, I already too immersed in it. I actually really like the novel. The author really address the mental health issue. Being suicidal doesn't mean you can just recover. And... more>> I love this novel because it was being so realistic that I practically sobbing when I read this. I really really love this novel. If you're afraid of the tag, Istg this will be worth it. It's a HE but you will encounter many emotions. I've read this a long time ago but I still remember the plot line because I really like it.

The male lead has a character development, I swear. You will see his effort.

Read this guys.

Spoiler

i saw some comment said that the MC should be happy and it was illogical to be depressed despite the condition he was in. I edited my review cause I wanted to touch a bit on that comment. I dont really remember what this novel was all about since I review this on 2021 and now I am 2024? So my memory abt this novel might be distorted. But one of the reviewer mentioned the MC should be happy living alone since he still got tv and all the other accommodation. And I was like what??? Does that mean people who have tv cant get sick or depressed. Someone who are rich shouldnt be sad? I already finish my psychiatric posting and mind you that mental illness can happen to all sort of people. Not just poor people but also rich people and who are we to judge. Something might not affect you but affect other people. Sure the novel might be a bit ridiculous (im saying this cause I cant remember whats it all abt). But why compare yourself to the people who are sick. This MC goes from being love by other people, having a loving family to someone who cant even be remembered by his neigbour. And it occured for a long period of time. You might not see him showing obvious symptoms until he attempted but that does not mean he was not sick previously. He might have precipitating factors that cause him to get worsen. And this depression does not simply goes away. What the novel trying to convey is that depression is an illness of mind. It is the thought that need to be change and it is not easy. Its not only draining your life but also the people around you. Your life is not the same as other people. You might have gotten it easier or harder than other people. Its hard for us normal people to truly understand but what we can do is offer even a tiniest help to those around us that are in need instead of judging them.

Melancholic and introspective dotted with bits of fluff.

Realistic and sad set up that pulls at your heart strings. Cried a few times. MC’s depression and lack of motivation for life coupled with his OP godlike looks make for unique entertainment type plot points.

Most of it is MC’s growth and healing journey. What sold the story for me is MC’s emotional state and ML’s desperation was so well-written that I could identify and empathise with both of them. A solitary cat and golden retriever got together.

Overall it’s a bit of a... more>> mish-mash novel; the entertainment parts kind of dulled in comparison with the usual online comments being on the verge of too many and cliche. The romance bit is fraught with tension, which was good, but the amount of sweetness after was not enough compared to the pain for most part. Kept feeling like the axe is about to fall any time, a relapse could happen on the next page—which I guess is quite realistic.. The extras explaining the transmigration is quite, um, random to be honest, hahaha. Was very jarring compared to the tone of the novel.

The one bit of almost smut was a pleasant surprise.

Don’t think I’ll re-read this, but enjoyed it enough. <<less

It was a good and well written novel. One of the very few that was able to provide a reason for the MC's rebirth/transmigration. Most novel use this troupe just out of sheer laziness but the author of this novel provided a reason for it.

MC and ML are a terrible match. I feel like the only reason MC chose him was because the plot said so.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that MC's mental state is caused by him, because that was the world consciousness, but the ML's actions and deliberate inactions certainly made him MC's very own psychological shadow. It's very ironic how the main theme of this story is supposed to be healing, but the plot never really let MC heal away from his own indirect tormentor. I'm not even... more>> kidding when I say that MC holds a sentiment of Lima syndrome towards the ML.
Spoiler

The world consciousness wouldn't let MC do anything to influence the plot, hence for the two years that the main plot was occuring, no one he ever interacted were able to retain memory of him. In those two years, the only thing that wouldn't be erased or wiped from remembrance or existence in relation to MC was his point of contact with ML. For two years, MC kept sending messages to ML that ML deliberately ignored and left unread until near the end of the story.

[collapse]

He's also very inconsistently written, like three chatacters are stuck in one body. Hot-tempered and impulsive one moment, mature and controlled the next, but wait, he's also supposed to be cute like a high schooler when it comes to love. This grown man is in his late twenties, he's done countless things that would have destroyed his career if he didn't wear plot armor.
Spoiler

Dude literally beat up a guy who rear-ended his car by accident and the police even hot involved.

[collapse]

The world-building of the entertainment industry is also reaching for too much. By trying to elevate prestige, the story comes up with an unrealistic system that requires too much suspension of brain cells.

Don't even get me started with the whole hidden plot behind the MC and ML's families and their marriage. There's WAAAY too much absurdity going on with that drama. <<less

This novel is definitely meant for the audience who can relate to the lowest of the life.

Story of a person who found himself back who was dealing with depression.

... more>> MC:- you will relate to him on so many levels, you will really. I was able to because I have been through isolation. He was isolated from everything, everyone for 2 years. His didn't had existence, nobody remembers him, he can't even send a message or write a note because the world setting, he was just cannon fodder, everything will disappear.

Ml:- many will have some complaints because of the isolation. But I think that is more because of the canon fodder halo. But yeah atleast once he could have reached to him, even for quarrel or fight would have been fine.

But the way he supported him, cared for him, after he fell in love with him, he was even able to understand his silence. I really love him for that.

MC's family:- that is really new for me, asain household doesn't believe in the concept of depression, anxiety etc etc but his family was really lovable, caring and understanding.

Good points:-

Its very hard to convey sensitive topics but I felt writer actually did lot of justice to that feeling and all the scenario based conection of how it actually feels when you're going through depression/-.

Characters were well written.

You can see him blossom into a refreshing full of life person.

Bads maybe?

There were chapters or paragraph I would say felt boring or not needed.

Overall really a good read.

Thank you writes and translators. <<less

I had to pause because I kept getting more and more uncomfortable with the hints of alcohol abuse that slowly ramp up to obvious addictive behavior. The story sounds pretty lighthearted overall but maaaan MC is obviously unwell.

This is beautifully translated but I kept coming back to check for warnings besides the su*cide one.

I know we're supposed to get a happy ending. And this is mostly about recovery. I just wasn't expecting to get hit by realistic depictions of depression and addiction used to cope. I've read worse tragedy but it's usually done in an unrealistic setting that makes a few TWs negligible for me most of the time.

I'm also used to proactive and healthy MC's. I loved the MC here but I really wasn't enjoying myself reading him abuse himself and his health. No fault of the author or the story. Just that I'm not in the right mindspace I guess.

I'm a bit conflicted about this story because I feel like the plot had a huge setup potentially going other places, but it just petered out.

When the MC woke inside this very surreal world where nothing he interacted with would make a mark, it was a pretty intense and dark (ish) setup. I expected the author to utilize this intense background to some effect in the future, but it's never brought up again.

Spoiler

Instead, everything that happened in the beginning is wrapped up with a crazy line that the "god" of the universe fell in love with the MC and caused it all to happen... uh yeah, very deux-ex-machina.

[collapse]

When the MC woke up super top most beautiful person on the planet, his appearance was such a cheat that I thought there was no way it was his original body... and the author gave an impression with the "2 years imprisonment" etc. that there were bigger things stirring underneath the surface.

Unfortunately not.

Cue a majority plot of mostly fluff and tons of filler of netizens and everyone emphasizing the MC's beautiful face over and over again ad nauseum for the majority of the novel. Maybe the author had high hopes for this novel? Maybe they intended to write something more mysterious, but in the end, it turned out to be your standard acting/celebrity novel except with a traumatized but super beautiful protagonist.

The author rescued some of this absurdity with a rather realistic portrayal of

Spoiler

depression, getting help, su*cide attempts, medication, recovery, etc.

I REALLY liked that the depressed MC couldn't find it in him to return the ML's feelings and had to get a lot more help before he recovered. No bullsh*t of "power of love" curing depression and medication/psych/counseling is treated respect instead of disdain.

You don't know how unwoke China tends to be around issues of depression... so big kudos to author for making it realistic.

[collapse]

But the pacing of the story absolutely fell down the drain as a result.

This story would have been 10, 000x stronger if the author hadn't started off with the
Spoiler

system transmigration, physical objects phasing out from the MC's sphere of influence, horror-like torture the MC suffered through as if it was truly a fictional world erased from existence, dark vibes.

Author could have used normal "transmigration" like rebirth, kept the amnesia, and just had the MC suffer (MC could have still gotten all the same after-effects without such extreme experiences) in the beginning before getting out of the place. Even a kidnapping could have given the same effect.

Then the reader wouldn't have been waiting for a non-existent shoe to drop throughout the plot.

The fact that the ML supposedly is some kind of god of the universe is very very very very very bad wrap-up to put in the epilogue.

[collapse]

The translation was really good. The story was a good read overall if you like celebrity/showbiz novels, just... don't put too much stock in the beginning and don't get your hopes up for something more mysterious filled with intrigue or epic plot twists. <<less

It's hard to describe this novel but all I can say is that it was definitely worth my time. I love how the story is paced so that it's not too fast nor too slow. It wouldn't make much sense if the MC and ML got together at the start since they both have their own issues to resolve.

I also love how the author portrayed the MC during his depressive moods. It felt very realistic unlike some other novels. I think this also made it much more relatable because I... more>> SOBBED during those scenes. I want to wrap my baby in soft blankets and cure him completely but obviously depression is really a long fight that the MC have to go through. I'm just glad that he will have the ML and his family, friends and fans by his side to support him.

Lastly, I just want to say that I really cannot hate the ML. Technically the 2yrs was all part of the plot. But then, it is also clear that he was forced into this arranged marriage. A marriage that he only knew about after it was acknowledged by the civil bureau. He was not introduced to his so called husband and he did not even know him beforehand. With that, I think providing a house and an unlimited amount money for his so called husband is already him being kind and generous. Though I understand that people can be mad at the fact that he ignored the MCs messages for 2yrs because I was kinda pissed too. But then again, since this is an arranged marriage and they don't even know each other, it also seems that they don't really have to get to know each other and won't have to contact each other right? Afterall the ML did do his 'part' by providing a place to live and money to spend. So in the end, no matter how much I felt sorry for the MC, I really cannot blame and hate the ML alot. Though him not responding to the MCs messages throughout the 2yrs caused the MC to slowly shut himself out, in the end it was the plot that caused it. Soooooo idk man. Conflicted.

But all in all, it was a great read. Highly recommended because although theres angst, the fluff was pretty good too :> Did not regret reading this although I hesistated due to the reviews saying that it was sad. It sure was sad. I cried multiple times. But alls good. I survived till the end! <<less
