After transmigrating, Chi Muyao was locked in a ‘small dark room’ aka a cave, with the main villain Xi Huai. The demonic cultivator’s body was chained up and his spiritual energy sealed.

Chi Muyao’s situation was…awkward to say the least. He needed to dual cultivate to the Foundation Building Stage in order to lift the restriction on the cave so they could be rescued.

However…he’s a male disciple of the He Huan Sect ahhhhhh! Who was he supposed to cultivate with, the main villain??

Everyone who’s read the book he transmigrated into knew that the cannon fodder who used Xi Huai to dual cultivate died an exceptionally terrible death.

Run! He had to skedaddle as soon as the restriction was lifted!

Love the premise. According to jjwxc, the chapters are broken up into 4 major arcs: Meeting, searching, loving, and dating. Lots of funny moments, overall I think it's quite heavy in romance but there are also interesting plot points.

Spoiler

MC and ML dual cultivates in the cave where MC uses ML as a cauldron. Of course, MC bottoms but since ML is securely locked up, he has no choice but to ride on the ML for a whole 3 years, causing his knees to feel pain. So even after he left the cave, he is afraid for his knees. How do they not get bored of fcking for 3 years straight? Well, it's literally working for them. MC only comes for the first time (iirc a year after they begin cultivating) when ML learns to move his waist.

MC gets ML drunk and escapes from the cave after he reaches the level he can escape from the cave. ML actually fell for MC during this time and tries many tricks to get MC to kiss him or let him touch any part of him, but MC is too smart. So ML suffers for the entire 3 years, basically h**ny and desperate to touch him once.

[collapse]

MC's sect

Spoiler

They're a funny and loyal bunch. They always have MC's back and MC has theirs. Because their sect is mostly girls who uses men to improve their cultivation, they're best at escaping. It's funny to read about their tricks.

About MC and ML later

Spoiler

ML finds MC like 1-2 years later, but MC is already in a different sect and refuses to admit that he was the dude from the cave. ML chases him for a long time before MC finally develops some feelings for him. But only after a long time. I almost thought ML was going to give up pursuing him a few times.

I read this MTL a while ago, and it's SO GOOD. the MC has really poor cultivation talents, so he's already about three years from dying of old age when he's captured to be used as a way of humiliating the young master of the Demon Sect. MC and ML actually get along for a while and negotiate dual cultivating after a while, since they literally can't escape the 'black room' otherwise. (MC is shou btw. It's not really clear until the ML starts being proactive).

MC is a transmigrator and... more>> is 80 years old while the ML is only 18... they spend three years locked up together dual cultivating.

By the way... the He Huan Sect are kind of like reverse furnace cultivators. It's an entirely female sect that disguise themselves and run out to seduce cultivators to use them as a furnace... but unlike the standard trope, this doesn't seem to harm the 'furnace' at all. Even the Sect leader spends her time as an elder of another sect in order to stay near her furnace hahaha. The world building for the Hehuan sect is AMAZING BTW. They're basically master escapist and illusionists so they can save their own lives when discovered.

It's really hilarious during the ML hunting down the MC arc, because he keeps cornering Hehuan cultivators and asking questions about their sect and methods and the girls keep wanting to reassure him "I believe you can become the best furnace! A top rate furnace!" and he never really argues about it.

It's actually really cute. the ML is young and brash, a 'villain bud' - but because he spends the next five or so years hunting down the MC, not letting disaster happen to the 'righteous' cultivators because one of them might be the MC... and then once he's fairly certain that the MC is his lover, but keeps getting rejected, he seeks out advice on how to properly court the MC. So he turns from an understandably egotistic/thoughtless young master into someone the MC really can feel secure with. There is some slight dogblood in their relationship when MC finally allows himself to love the ML and says so, but the ML has become so paranoid about the MC always running away (plus a certain dao trick) that he doesn't believe it.

There's actually a lot of plot going on in this story, although the original book's ML and FL don't get a lot of screen time, nor do they really factor into the plot of this book much. The Second Male Lead actually kind of ends up being the MC's second male lead, but it's mostly a matter of regarding the MC as a true spiritual comrade rather than a love interest.

The ML's past and the events of his parent's generation are also a plot point. the villain... he's just pathetic. He was evil enough and disgusting enough that I don't feel bad for him even after all his motivations came out. Like... he opened that can of worms, now lie in it.

Although I was uncomfortable the first several times the MC and ML encountered during the 'hunt' arc, you can really get the sense that this is just the ML being a young man with no knowledge of relationships (his mom is dead! his friends' parents also aren't in a functional relationship!), so how can he successfully appeal to the MC who wants stability? This isn't about ML having a personality defect of being an Overbearing President, this is him not knowing better, learning better, and successfully breaching the defensive wall that the MC has around his heart. Although the Hehuan sect is very loving toward their only junior brother, you do get the sense that the ML is the only person to really have walked into his heart. Especially since the MC has seen the fallout of what happens when a Hehuan cultivator falls into unrequited love.

ANYWAY THIS STORY IS SO GOOD. You don't expect a lot out of a story that centers around dual cultivation, but the world building is amazing, the characters are charming, and the MC manages to stand strong on his own in a lot of ways despite his bad cultivation talents. <<less

Ahhh I couldn't wait so I finished the mtl version lol, the story is really nice, I liked all the characters, they have been given dimension, have their own thoughts and motives, the plot is well thought out and the world is planned out, MC has golden fingers, which is not overwhelming, but a necessity at times of need, I will say his biggest goldenfinger is ML himself 😂

About MC and ML and their relationship:

The relationship between the MC and ML is very sweet, ML chased after MC although MC... more>> realises his feelings a tad bit late, he gave all his love to ml

They both saved each other's life several times, those moments when they struggled together were made it all the more beautiful

The MC is like a gentle, caring grandpa, he can make the seniors realise that they were wrong and get apologies lol, he is also very strong and courageous when he needs to be and the ml... well he is wife s*ave, wants attention, becomes an abandoned puppy when he does not get the attention he wants, quarrels with MC that he doesn't want to dual cultivate (for which MC does his best, but he is not satisfied ha... poor MC 🤭), he is a big vinegar jar that overturns all the time

But u can see that relationship is beyond that, for MC, ML is like the sun and for ml, MC is his salvation, his life, even tho they get angry with each other they know that the other is their one and only companion in life and they life and can die for each other, ah love, I was stuffed with a lot of dog food and I liked it

I can't really get the adjectives to describe more and am tired of continous reading buuuuuut overall I enjoyed it very much, there are few misunderstandings, I don't even know if u can call it that lol, but after it gets resolved the sweetness overflows ✨ if u get frustrated and leave, then I tell you, u will miss soooo much

I will recommend it for sure, k now I am off to read other novels, bye~ <<less

Loved this so much, but honestly the best part of this is the female characterisation. The females aren’t dumb or pathetic, they’re strong and capable and don’t crumple into tissue paper at a moments notice. And I adore some of the role reversal. The MC and ML can be a bit cliched but the plot makes up for it.

And after MTLing this, I understand why translators struggle with cultivation novels 😂

You know what I want, I want an arc where the ML gives the MC space, thinking that he’ll still love him, and if the MC can’t believe that then he will show. I just finished the whole story!!! Omg, this is so sweet of a love story. The MC is not looking for love or anything, he just wants to live a relaxing life without dying. His impression of the ML is bad, he sees him as a villain because of the book he crossed over into.

But the ML is not like that, he is destructive and does kill, but he does restrict himself for the MC. Not a saint mind you, but will still fight with people. The time when the... more>> ML fell in love was in the cave for those 3 years. It's really funny because

Spoiler

the ML started liking him and got more wild in the bed. Our old man MC was only worried for his old knees. And he still is after years with the ML.

[collapse]

After the MC runs away, the ML chases after him for two years. I. That time the MC does everything possible not to be discovered by him. He is afraid of having a bad ending like his name sake I'm the book. However, after some more incidents with death defying incidents the MC falls in love.

The love between them is so sweet. Even before the relationship is established, they both care for each other. The unwilling furnace (mL) took his job very seriously and would get mad if he wasn't used. Other characters and there developments are also shown, and you will also love their characters. <<less

I honestly didn't expect to enjoy this story and binge read it even if it's MTL'ed. Tho I might say, some parts were understandable, but others were just incomprehensible, and confusing, especially the names of some side characters.

The story focuses on MC --- an 80++ cultivator with weak aptitude but is smart, calm, rational, a beauty, and talanted person in many fields. And ML --- who's supposed to be a devil tyrant but instead became a doting, henpecked husband, and the best furnace ever. Lmao.

I enjoyed how the story was... more>> delivered and how it progressed from start until the end. Especially how the MC and ML faced the prejudice for same gender relationship, that of course, dual cultivates. I also liked the fact that MC is OP but is also not. Furthermore, I felt satisfaction on the troubles and misunderstanding that MC and ML faced before finally ending up together. Although there are times where I want to drop this because of the ML's behavior in the early chapters, that's just because he does not have any reliable guide in terms of proper and good social, personal, and romantic relationship. He did get better afterwards tho.

Overall, it's a great read and definitely enjoyable <<less

I was in for this because of the uncensored papapa.

While I am enjoying this, there's few thing that actually bothered me. I don't know if I'm going to spoil something but really, I'll never write a review unless I really need to pour out my thoughts.

First, since this novel is all about chasing after the wife after they done the deed, the more I read on, the more that I found that Chi MuYao annoying. Yes, believe it or not, it's just my opinion, but damn this MC was getting... more>> on my nerves.

Spoiler

I can't for the life of me keep on continue on lying shamelessly (I won't get into details but you get the gist of it) saying that he's not who ML was looking for. Like would you rather people like your alter ego or your fake identity more than your true self even when everything was settled and not threatening your life anymore? At the first few chapters, I already figured out that this MC was actually cruel in terms of emotional aspect. Like it's understandable that he hid his identity because he's afraid for his life, but when ML blatanly and sincerely albeilt domineeringly showed his interest towards MC, but MC gave a lot of s*upid reasons and won't get straight to the point. Though I know it's amusing to see ML chasing after his wife, but damn MC attitude started to rub me in the wrong way.

[collapse]

and then there's the reader. Dude, bruh, like seriously. This person yapping about how they're so done with ML's character and how immature his is.

Spoiler

Of course, he's immature and a bit unreasobnable, but given his title as a Young Master, it's obvious why he is the way he is. Plus he only grew up with his cold-hearted father and without a mother, do you think he'll just change his personality for all of his entire 18 years of life being that way just because he found love? No. Not even when he's determined enough when he's trying so hard to court MC and trying to figure him out for all those 5 or so years. What I'm trying to say is, he's already trying his best but it's just that the MC is the real problem here.

[collapse]

I was actually holding myself back from writing this but that person comment really triggered me. I'm not saying that they're wrong for not liking the ML for having such a childish way of pursuing someone they like. But think about it.

Spoiler

Chi MuYao (the MC and the character he transmigrated into) is 8 decades older than Xi Huai (ML) at the beginning of the chapter while in reality, ML is actually 2 years older than MC if I'm not mistaken before he transmigrate. All in all, they both were immature. While ML figured out his feelings for MC, MC acted like a little girl being bullied and denied everything when he could just get straight to the point. Like come on, give ML his credit for trying his best here for being real and stick to his character.

[collapse]

Alas, as we all know, we are all veteran reader of BL. We know that good BL has the best plot advancement and character developments, and Chinese BL tested a lot of our morality and horniness because of the censored papapa. So this novel has a lot of potential unless you're not into ML being immature but will/hopefully develop into some fine husband for our tough MC. Not often that I feel heartache more for the ML who's chasing after MC.

While all the thoughts up there is more like a rant, all in all, this novel is still one of the best papapa BL out there. With that, I still give this novel 5 stars because it kept my engaged and the plot is interesting enough although the MC annoyed me with his attitude towards ML, but still, the romance is just perfectly well-balanced though. <<less

This was a really delightful! I laughed out loud several times, and at least up to where I read (planning to MTL since I think it was dropped) there wasn’t excessive or frustrating angst.

As someone who’s been in the trenches I was really pleasantly surprised by all the “red flag” premises being handled in a “green flag” way. Even when the ML gets jealous or frustrated by the MC not reciprocating, he doesn’t ever cross the line or take it out on him.

Other things I liked:

- Side characters: they all... more>> had distinct personalities and goals and weren’t treated as just background people

- Sex-positivity: in a lot of other novels there’s typically an all-female sect that cultivates via dual cultivation, and they’re usually looked down on or villainized. They’re still disliked in this world, but since the MC was raised there, the girls are like his sisters and have more depth. The ML also speaks up for them and points out their haters’ hypocrisy since other demon sects do way worse than have consensual fun. Overall refreshing and I want to be their friend

- Animal friends: who doesn’t love a cute spirit beast pet? This book has a bunch <<less

This is one of my favourite go-to novels. I reread it a lot just because I like it so much.

The MC isn't useless but he isn't overpowered either. Though he has a poor cultivation base, he makes up for it with knowledge and intelligence. He was stuck in this world and forced into a dangerous role that he couldn't escape until meeting the villain. The novel starts with a f*ck-or-die scenario, and MC chose death lol. Luckily ML convinced him otherwise. It made for a nice opening arc ;)

The... more>> plot is literally just misunderstandings and mayhem, with two idiots falling in love, one fast and the other slow. MC definitely started to care for ML after spending three years trapped together, so it's understandable that his actions made ML misunderstand. Three years of s*x definitely did not help in getting ML to think with the right head. What he thought was normal, expected, or just out of goodwill, ML was certain came out of love. Which it probably did, in a way, but MC was much slower in realising that he liked him. His age and experience meant his passion didn't burn as hot, and he was far more rational in his decisions. The ML is more immature and young, making MC even more hesitant. After all, for him and his sectmates, truly loving someone can be deadly. There's plenty of comedy, some serious tones, and sad ones too. There's also a nice dose of smut.

I like MC's sect sisters. They're so chaotic. His sect leader is amazing too. Heck, his entire sect is hilarious. They're dedicated, I'll give them that. Learning all the fine arts and inserting themselves into various sects just so they can nab some innocent male cultivators as willing furnaces. Anyone they choose is so pitiful lmao. They think they're in for an amazing first love, but once their cultivation lags, the girls pat their butts and leave. RIP boys.

Many of the characters are pretty interesting too. The villain made me hate him, the egotist going so far to prove a point and then being unable to accept the consequences of his actions when it didn't go as expected. He deserved a worse ending.

The og MC and FL of the novel are a cute side couple that you don't really see much of. I suppose they were included so we the readers could observe the og second male lead's reaction. And yes, our poor eternal second male lead maintains his role even after the og novel's plot broke down. Light this man some candles. He doesn't get the og FL, and he doesn't get MC either. I don't actually know if he really LOVED MC or if he just cared for him as a likeminded individual. He probably did love MC, a least a little bit. He ends up the same as he did in the og plot tho. Maybe a bit sadder. After all, this time, he got to find out that his sect wasn't all noble sunshine and rainbows, and just how deep the filth ran.

Anyway, I love the characters, sects, and the chase. The chase was plenty of fun to read, and MC really tried to hold on to his cover. Too bad ML was so persistent. At least he managed to hide for over two years. In other novels, an MC might not even last two days hiding from their ML. <<less

Must read!!!

MC - I saw that other readers don’t like how he keeps rejecting the ML. But in my opinion, it’s natural that he will.

Imagine, you’re in your 80s and never thought you’ll be with somebody. Plus, your ideal boyfriend is someone calm, gentle and kind.

... more>> The ML doesn’t fit that! The ML’s is in his 20s plus he’s personality is kinda “explosive”.

However, even tho the MC rejects the ML, he doesn’t really lead the ML on. Although he is unconsciously concerned of the ML.

Anywayyy, everything fell right into place. There weren’t annoying scenes for me, really.

ML - as they say, if you like someone, just persist until you eventually worn them down into liking you lol <<less

Finished it in 2 days straight.

An interesting xianxia story with a spicy start, bit of angst in the middle, and a whole lot of fluff at the end.

ML fell for MC quickly (truthfully it's 3 years but it was only like 10 chapters, so it feels quick) but MC fell gradually after a long time of interacting. But after they both recognized each other, they are so sweet it makes your teeth ache.

Fyi, this story can actually be finished maybe 15 chapters earlier, but it got dragged (it's actually like... more>> an epilogue and a last dramatic fighting) until it couldn't be dragged anymore lol.

All in all really an interesting read and quite enjoyable with a lot of not-so-explicit snu snu. <<less

Reader beware: the translator has added in their own (poorly written) smutty embellishments, because apparently wantonly changing the text of other people's novels is normal and okay now. MTL is recommended - it really is a good novel.

I read the "misunderstandings" tag, but underestimated its significance; it turned out to be more prominent than I anticipated. However, I must admit that the misunderstandings were not unfounded. And it was very satisfying to see how they were resolved.

I took great pleasure in witnessing ML's pursuit, especially when he made it clear that the dual cultivation in the cave with MC was simply for mutual benefit and lacked sentimental implications. Despite his jealousy and arrogant demeanor, ML never restricts MC's choices, always accepting his decisions, even those that could... more>> jeopardize MC's life, because he understands MC's desires and doesn't want to be an obstacle. Even when the idea was presented to ML that after his death, MC would have to follow him, he took offense, and his negativity towards it was evident.

MC emerges as a charmingly sweet character. The gleeful excitement he experiences while witnessing scenes of the original novel's protagonists made me smile a lot. His personality is easygoing, calm, and silent, but it reveals a much sweeter, open, and clingy side towards ML, an aspect that I deeply appreciate.

The plot unfolds in a relaxing manner, providing an accessible and understandable read. While the relationship doesn't progress at an agonizingly slow pace, it also doesn't develop hastily. Although ML quickly understands his feelings, MC takes his time to accept them, and I appreciate that this process is respected. Highly recommended. <<less

I didn't rate it because I didn't finish it exactly. If I rated it on my enjoyment it would only be a 2.5, the prolonged wife chasing just isn't my cup of tea.

This novel is actually well written and at first I really liked the MC and ML and their dynamic. Then the MC and ML started irritating me in different ways starting in the array, especially the MC. He became so spineless, if he didn't want to be with ML he should have just been honest and straight forward.... more>> The ML was just a typical arrogant young master type, which I'm not too much a fan of.

I made it to chapter 40 getting more annoyed with the characters and story with each chapter so I found a spoiler that broke up the story on 3 parts and found out the chasing goes on until chapter 73. I just couldn't so I skimmed and read from chapter 72 on.

All in all, this novel was just for me, but I can see why some people love it. The translation was great and plan to read some other novels they are working on. <<less

Spoiler

The story divided into 4 phrase to me:

1. Meeting: Chapters 1-11.

Unique, Interesting.

2. Running away playing chase: Chapter 12-39

I didnt feel any happiness when they found each other. Felt so flat & empty. Chasing and running part way too long.

3. Annoying misunderstanding to make up chapters: Chapter 40-72

These were the most frustrating to read for me bc the part 2 was already long enough. I really wanted to drop this after the Dao knot showed white.

4. True love, happiness, dating : Chapter 73- End

Chapter 73 was the sweetest chapter when they finally were honestly with each other and resolved the Dao Knot misunderstanding. It was kinda funny when MC changed the knots to so many diff colors even rainbow. Very good felt like story finally started then it ended.

Bc of part 2 and 3 its not one I read again.

Lol, why such the low rating? This deserve 4.5 stars.

I almost finished this with MTL, but I wanted to wait for the amazing translation to enjoy this to the fullest.

Anyway, despite the premise, the dual cultivation part are omitted so maybe readers are disappointed? Check the tag deariers. This is no smut.

After going out from the cave, the MC run away from the ML and tried to avoid him to death. I also think that perhaps there are better option, but I understand his choice and it's still made a... more>> good plot. Because it allows both MC and ML did their own stuff and side of stories. And MC even have a new sect/family.

Beside that:

Spoiler
    • The pairing had a lot of papapa (although censored)
    • How do I explain this? IMO the ML is not that much of yandere. Or overall it's not yandere story. First of all, the ML is very sincere. He doesn't know anything about the MC including his appearance and doesn't fall in love with him so suddenly. Then secondly, the MC doesn't avoid him because of dislike or reluctance. He papapa with him easily again, so I think at that point he already liked the ML but didn't realize. So their relationship feel very safe, because it's consensual.
    • The MC is strong in his own way! There are a lot of cool scenes about him. He doesn't rely on ML. Protected him several times. And the ML also trusted his ability.
    • The MC is outrageously beautiful, like who hate beautiful MC right? But he was not feminine or described as such. He's supposed to be handsome.
    • Most side characters have good characterization and have important roles, the original protagonists were also there. I don't mind that they disappeared in the background because this story is not about them, and since the start MC didn't intend to get close to them. So it's okay to not think much about them. Anyway they're good children, and not hypocrite type.
    • There are side couples everywhere including BG (no GG though) although I don't know how they ended up in the end, it's good that the only romance is not just between the protagonists, like the world doesn't just revolve around them.
    • I like the main villain. An interesting character with tragic story (although it's totally his own fault). I made his fanfic in my head.
    • There are good adults in this story and good familial relationship.
    • The moral messages pertaining the demonic sects and the rightous sect.
    • As a xianxia story, it kinda has good enough world building. Like things or activities that usually shows up in xianxia, but not too massive to make it boring.
    • A lot of scenes or plot points I loves, no spoiler though.
[collapse]

Less positive comments:

Spoiler
    • There are no mind blowing mystery or twist, but there are dangers and adventure. Overall it's still feel fresh and original with good characters and execution which are the most important thing for me.
    • Some plot might feel slow paced or fast paced, the MC and ML kinda separated a lot because of circumstances (?) and sometimes it felt frustrating. But they trust and rely on each other.
    • So the side characters had their own world and story, and unfortunately the author didn't dwelve much on them, or maybe it's fortunate because we just need to focus on our main couple here?
    • Okay, I remember some unnecessary drama & misunderstanding but it's not that bad and a bit amusing if I say so myself (I have bad personality, the kind that laugh at people tripping over air)

Okay so perhaps if you read slowly you might feel some frustration because the MC keep running away at first, or the ML quite intreuive when trying to find him, or that they are keeping getting separated, but it doesn't feel as frustrating if you binge read it.

So don't judge the book early. If you don't mind no smexy scene, and liked beautiful, smart, and calm protagonist with some cool solo action, and trustful relationship between the couple, go and read it.

Maybe try it first, after all the premises are quite novel right? Although you might not necessarily like how it's going because with such premises there are a lot of imagination. I understand.

Edit: Oops I forgot that the translator did an amazing job in the smut part. But the original source doesn't have that much. <<less

It's okay. I'm not too enthusiastic about it. Just not my current cup of tea. I still read it and not skipped a chapter which means I still enjoyed it.

It is well written. I think all the lead characters have their merits. I feel bad about the villain Su. If only he made better choices.... Hmmm....

I started reading the available translated chapters and finished the rest through MTL (readable but ofc needs proofreading).

The novel isn't difficult to read. It's quite enjoyable and you don't need to squeeze your brain to understand the mystery (that's gradually unraveled) which plagued the two opposite realms. However, it got boring after the main story was finished but it's good the conflicts are resolved in the main story.

Also, the tragic story of the side couple is a cherry on top.

However, I wish the gong in this side CP suffered more.... more>> Going more insane (the gong is already crazy to begin with), destroyed physical body, and being plagued by inner demons is quite lacking. If you read what he has done to the Yu Chaolou and to other innocent people, you'll definitely hate him. So what if he realized his mistakes? Too late is too late. If it wasn't because of him, other people wouldn't have died. They would have been happier. This gong is crazy, lustful, manipulative, and loathful.

Spoiler

I wasn't surprised when it was mentioned that towards this lunatic freak, YCL harbors more hatred and the love is very faint. This is the result of this lunatic freak being with YCL in his most difficult times. But most part of this difficult times comprised of this lunatic freak's doing and the rest is his elders' own selfishness and hypocrisy. In numbers, it is 99% hatred and 1% affection... too faint it is almost non-existent.

If you want a more action-oriented, more mysterious, and more adventurous novel, read MXTX's novels and other novels with almost the same characteristics as this novel isn't one. <<less
