Description
Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.Skyfire Avenue is a street that is 2048 meters long. There are 168 stores here, and each of the store owners is an extremely powerful adept. The Avenue does not permit any vehicles or any robots to pass through it, much less mecha. Even the patrolling police must move about on foot. This is because this is a street for pedestrians, a lane for nobles, hidden away within this high technology world. Lan Jue, the greatest of the mercenaries, code-named ‘Zeus’, has secluded himself here in Skyfire Avenue after the death of his wife. The name of his shop is “Zeus’ Jewelry Store”, and here in Skyfire Avenue, he has been given the title, Jewel Master.

- Story (The numbering system is messing up my paragraph...) (5 stars)
This novel is not your typical Chinese novel where the MC grows from weak to strong. The MC here is already strong and living his life as part of the upper echelons of the society. This is very rare, usually found on Japanese or western novel more often and it comes as a positive influence on this novel. This kind of perspective give a fresh approach to a cultivation novel, there's no "big clan hunting you down for treasures" because MC is the big clan, nor there is "Young master got offended, die!" because MC is the young master. Add this with a modern world background that depicts our civilization in a star-faring era, mecha combat, and even some gourmet experiences, wow, I'm quite taken by the story, especially when there are almost no good Chinese mecha novel. If there are some things that can be a minus for this novel is how frustrating the romance is. How the relation goes between men and women on this novel makes me want to scream "What are you doing?!" several times. That also goes with how idealistic the MC can be sometimes, frustrating. I can see how it helps propel the story forward and with how the story interestingly unfold, the frustration kinda vanish into the background, still it really lacks that bit of finesse from the author. All in all though, the pros outweigh the cons, it's a full 5 stars from me 2. Main character (5 stars) Simply put, Lan Jue is an apex cultivator, living in a community where the top gathers, Skyfire Avenue. His background is a spoiler, so i'd keep quiet about it. I can't say I like the MC, but not for the writing, but for how he wants to keep everything under his wings, it made for a frustrating moment sometimes. He's your typical "good-side" MC from any novel. There is not much cultivation going on in this novel since the MC barely needs it, that gives more highlight to the MC. In the novel the MC will run around doing things that people with time will do, it really gives quite a flavor to the MC. The writing is quite consistent and there is no big flaw. I got no complaint for the MC, 5 stars 3. Side characters (4 stars) The fact that the MC is surrounded by strong people made the side characters have a bigger room to grow. While in most novels those people got left in the dust, the side characters here stays for quite some time. Just like most western novels where power level barely exist, the side characters here are fleshed out and take some of the spotlights even until the end of the novel. Villains are not exactly villains. Most encounters are about power struggle and politics, which is understandable because MC is part of an apex organization, so I never really felt that the villains are evil or anything like that. Even so, toward the end things got a bit out of hand. Enemy will pop out of nowhere in droves, which is a typical mistake an author made to dramatize things. It's illogical and I have to take out one star from the score 4 stars 4. Battle (4 stars) This also includes cultivation, techniques, treasures, etc I like the battle in this novel, TJSS can make an interesting battle flow so I never felt that the battle is long winded for the sake of word count. But I hate how the moves are barely explained, since the novel doesn't highlight cultivation, the moves do not have a special meaning to it, it's just names with varying scope, speed, and sometimes power to jump level. Basically it comes down to cultivation level. Treasures are also almost non-existent. Well, there are some, but it's also just names, the difference in power mostly comes down to having it or not having it. What comes out special for this novel is the Mecha and insterstellar combat. It's not exactly what I'll get from a military novel, but it's quite decent. The mechas are interlinked with the cultivation so you can see some actions by the MC from behind the c*ckpit. The interstellar ships got more actions toward the last quarter of the novel. So despite of the simple side of the cultivation this novel does bring a good amount of action, 4 stars 5. Ending (3 stars) The ending is a bit abrupt. I knew it was going to happen, but I didn't expect that it'd be solved that way. There is one cool-down chapter and one epilogue chapter. not super satisfying but it's okay. Well... It's okay, 3 stars. TLDR 4 stars. It's a very good novel, it has a great fresh story, great characters, and battle scenes that entertain you. It's the kind of novel that you don't see often in the Wuxia scene with its integration of mecha and starships. The story starts at the upper part of a cultivation, not the bottom like most novels. And while it gives readers the chance to see what it's like to be "the big clan young master", it also lacks the deep exploration of the cultivation world. It's not that big of a minus because it got covered by the more modern combat form like that of mecha and starships. It's not a superb military nor cultivation novels, but it's a jack of all trades. I wish it got a better exploration of both the modern and cultivation world. Also a better, more satisfying ending. But at the end, it's entertaining, and only 900 chapters long. Do give it a try.- wine connoisseur chads enjoying each other's company & looking down on pleps
