Hoiiiii~

Translator again, so there'll understandably be a bias.

So this is Yourwei's most popular/famous novel, with 2 free audio drama adaptions (both ongoing) as well as a physical book release. It's not my absolute favourite, as FRYG or some other ones are ranked a little higher in my heart, but it is within the top 7 (out of 19 complete novels).

To describe the main two's dynamic, I'd say they're both very unfortunate, cute fools in love who aren't on the same wavelength for much of the time, but yet are very... more>> good together. The ML thinks he's a sugar daddy and has convinced himself that he's got the script to a cliche 'sugar daddy' and 'poor little meow meow who's either scheming to get with him for money/power/reputation, or because he's madly in love with him' but the MC just thinks they're friends with benefits and regularly reminds himself not to think too much (even if his bias, the ML, is really frigging weird sometimes).

Spoiler

This is the Yourwei novel that most has the '渣攻火葬场' thing where the ML doesn't know he's in love until he loses his love, and has to chase him back, except it's yourwei and it's done without a lot of the angst or dogblood. The characters all have morals and principles, so if you don't like that sort of lacking part in things like 188, then you'll find this novel more to your liking. (for example, no protagonist is breaking the law, we are all law-abiding citizens here)

Thinking on it again, Shut up you fake fan is one of the Yourwei novels that has the most dogblood angst tropes in a way. There's a white moonlight, there's the sugar relationship (misunderstanding), there's the orphan thing, there's the chasing after the break-up. But 🛰️ pulls through, he matures... or it should be said he really comes to understand YJY when he couldn't before and does so respecting him and his boundaries. In the end, he may still not understand YJY fully, but it's usually pretty impossible to perfectly understand someone else in the first place.

However, this is also the novel where the main characters face the least troubles..... many of the others have to deal with a lot of stuff outside of their relationship (like criminals scheming against them, time loops, the government, really terrible 'family', kidnappings, etc)..... they're really the favoured children hhhhhhh

[collapse]

It's a comedy, so there'll be misunderstandings and miscommunication, but not too much dogblood angst (there's still some glass shard parts, especially in the latter chapters) <<less

Love it! This novel is seem light-hearted at a glance, but it hit you sometimes with a wave of sadness for the characters at times, not just for the MCs but also the supporting characters. To me it seems more like a dog-blood novel packaged in a light-hearted way.

The characters are complex and seem fleshed out and flawed. All of them had their own struggles, especially for the gong's and shou's childhood, it made me cry. Their past made who they are now with all the insecurities and stuff. The... more>> gong (MC) and shou both have unique brain circuits and usually isn't on the same wavelength. The gong is a foolishly good person, which you can see in his actions and how he met his friends and shou in the extras. His heart is there, but his brain has gone MIA somewhere. Sometimes it frustrates me how his brain has went offline when white moonlight is involved. The shou is also unique, in that what he focuses on or how he approaches and reasons some things is different from other people, he has a rational vibe but really he is a wonderful flower. Both have misunderstandings about their relationship and feelings, gong lost shou and chases him back. There are also elements of white moonlight being a green tea b and even swapped babies.

It isn't too angsty, just that you would learnt their past and got hit in the feels. Their relationship itself is actually pretty smooth sailing (compared to other dog blood novels), there's no evil cannon fodder whose purpose is to make them miserable. And the supporting characters are good! Gong's friends are actually good bros, although most don't appear often and usually only present in chat records.

The only villains in the novel are the whitemoonlight and his "mom", you just can tell he has got bad vibes from his first appearance in the novel with the guilt tripping. I do wonder what happened to him afterwards but I like that the novel doesn't focus on him and the "revenge" too much. The white moonlight is very slappable though.
Spoiler

Also, I am pleasantly surprised about Feng Dan (gong's dead older sister's fiance's ex fiancee). Her background design (fiance broke engagement when she was pregnant and asks for the baby to be aborted because he fell in love with gong's sister, which then make her confront sister and present the facts, resulting in sister breaking up with fiance) would usually make her to be one of the villains that would oppress the sister and gong. But no, she became sister's friend instead and has even helped gong. I am curious what happened to the baby and the fiance though, because she ended up with her childhood sweetheart (fiance's cousin) and no further info was told, maybe it's on author's other novels.

Waah I stayed up last night reading the translated chapters and tried my very best not to laugh out loud. My face hurt due to smiling from ear to ear. I so love them both. I really loved the translation too! Their interactions, conversations, and their way of talking are damn hilarious. I thought that reading the Google translated raws would affect the quality of the novel but it's still gold! Hahahhahaha. I really love the face-slapping moments. I love our tsundere and s*upid Gong, our 'En'-soft spoken but unexpectedly... more>> straightforward Shou, those side characters' group chats hahahahhahahhahaha. And oh, I won't use the terms MC and ML to address the main couple coz they are both MCs, and actually you can tell that the Gong has a lot of screentime, hence, he is actually our protagonist or MC here. Anyway... this novel is too underrated. People need to discover this. At first, I was very hesitant to read this since I'm looking for a wife-chasing crematorium + angst novel but still tried this. And lo and behold, I was already laughing my ass off while reading Ch 1. It's also quite funny how hard you were laughing without even realizing that the author already stabbed you and turned the knife abruptly or sometimes slowly. <<less

Loved it.. Unfortunately, I had to mtl after chapter 26 I think.. It was not great, to be honest, but I had to finish it.. Love both MC and ML, they are so cute together. And ML, such a great personality, and an amazing heart even after all the suffering in his childhood. They deserve to be happy :)

although SUYFF follows the standard trajectory of a scum gong who's thinking about his white moonlight while spending all his time with the stand-in shou (or in this case, his "sugar baby"), yourwei's distinctive and self-aware narration still shines through. The main characters have distinct personalities that comically contradicts each other, and their frequent back-and-fourths are as perplexing as they are charming.

I'm pretty sure the low average rating came from people who never even read this story, because it's a pretty entertaining read. Either way, I really hope this novel's... more>> translation gets picked up again <<less
