Xu Nian’s mother was sick, and as they were a normal single income family, they used up all their money to pay for her hospital fees. It wasn’t enough. Xu Nian was a young, good-looking but also very poor university student who was trying to look for a way out.

Cheng Chen was a domineering CEO. He just dumped a lover, and is looking for a new one…and this time he wants a male one.

They meet, and fit each other’s needs quite well. And as the cliched script goes, they enter into a give and take relationship–no love or feelings involved.

But…

Who knew that the domineering CEO had such a cute habit!

Note: The titular Sewing Machine, is referring to the ML, Cheng Chen because of his leg shaking habit. The shaking is kind of like a sewing machine’s needle going up and down, up and down.

Hi! Translator here (so might be biased, again).

This short novel is cute and sweet. There's no dogblood or dragging angst. After FRYG, I decided to go with something lighter and this was what fit the best (in terms of content and # of chapters hhhh) (it also won in the comments section for voting)

At first, I didn't really like CC (ML), but he really grows on you (quickly). He's one of those guys that are smart at work, but a cute, pure idiot in a relationship. He actually... more>> really reminds me of Lu Ya, the ML in Those years I opened a Zoo. Got a bad mouth, a bit narcissistic, temper's a bit short, but cute and pure. Really need a patient zookeeper like SO. Which Nian Nian absolutely is. Nian Nian is.... just so put together, man.

So, while this novel is fine on it's own, it's especially nice when paired with reading history of this type of novel ---the sugar daddy and baby cn novel trope (drama too, but novels are better, and there are LOADS, both mm, fm, ff...). For those... it's generally quite dogblood angst filled and dramatic + misunderstanding filled (very soap opera-esque). They're also quite old (though of course there are some new and recent ones), so it's quite.... basic? Even if you don't like reading them, you'll know the trope and general plot.

CC's feelings are pretty clear, and it's easy to see how he fell in love, so I won't talk much about him.

For me, I feel like XN's feelings are pretty clear too? From early on he thinks that it's strange that CC didn't have better lovers, and that he was cute

I mean, I feel like it's supposed to kind of align with the reader's feelings. As XN learns more and more about CC, he understands and likes him more. Also, I kind of see XN as a more pragmatic, not so mushy mushy person (the mushiness comes for CC in this relationship). So, his feelings are shown with actions and realistic actions--the most longlasting meaningful love letter, staying with and using time on his partner.

Of course, since this is mainly a comedic parody (even with sweetness/romance), the romance takes a slight backstep

P.S. Also, for the few people who still don't get the title.... it's the ML, he's the sewing machine, because of his shaking leg. So as it's his love story, the title is=The sewing machine's love story. Ta daaa✨

P.P.S The current cover image, while from one of the audio dramas, it is in my opinion the worst, because it is pretty inaccurate to the characters--especially Niannian, who most definitely has not dyed his hair or give off punk vibes (I've added the other two ad cover art to my TL btw) <<less

a good little novel.

very short.

funny and cute.

MC (shou) is 18, almost 19 years old.

for money he will pretend to be the boyfriend of a CEO...

this CEO is the ML (gong).

he is an idiot, does not want to touch anyone, and since he comes from a very poor family, today as rich, he always wants to be on the same level as the others...

others right now have gay boyfriends, so him too...

in fact it is very hard for our MC to win his heart because the ML has a bad temper, but he has so much mania.

for example when he is happy he shakes his legs...

so they are quickly "together" and finally in the last chapter, they consume their relationship.

it was really hard for MC, he worked very, very hard to win this idiot's heart

Wow, this story is absolutely adorable! From start to finish, it's just overflowing with cuteness. I found myself giggling and smiling all the way through.

The characters are all so funny and lovable. The MC is refreshingly straightforward, smart, and caring, while the ML is delightfully silly and funny. He's probably one of the most innocent ML bosses I've seen, and the author has done a fantastic job with setting up his character: a top-tier tsundere with a soft heart and a unique way of thinking that's both amusing and endearing.... more>> I just can't help but adore him.

In addition, his interactions with the MC before they officially start dating are really hilarious and sweet, while the ending is strangely hot that it makes me blush. Honestly, I never expected a story about a sugar daddy and sugar baby to be this captivating. The plot and storyline are really superb (within a scope of 20-ish chapters), leaving me with no complaints whatsoever.

My only wish is that it had even more chapters so I could keep enjoying it for longer. It's just so much fun to read! ♥ <<less

This has turned out to be one of my all-time favorites, and I held no expectations, good or bad.

This starts out as a sugar baby/sugar daddy relationship because our Xu Nian, our sugar baby, has a mother with medical issues and needs money for her care. Cheng Chen, a high powered, high-profile businessman, has just dumped a lover/sugar baby and is looking for a male sugar baby, this time.

They meet, they click, and slowly (like watching molasses dripping), they fall in love.

It is hilarious after you get past the fairly... more>> serious first part. Cheng Chen, our little sewing machine (he has a peculiar quirk that gives this its title!) is a total tsuntsun-turned-tsundere, and Xu Nian is a young man just looking to get by, to help himself and his mother just get by in life, but he is sweet, street savvy and willing to do what it takes just to get by.

Neither imagine that their arrangement would turn into the real deal!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Very, very funny and Cheng Chen is one of the most adorable tsunderes I have had the pleasure of reading. <<less

People might say that the ML is annoying but since spoiled tsundere uke is a thing then I want more of tsundere spoiled MLs too! Cheng Chen is cute AF! Spoiled, bad mouthed but easy to coax and affectionate! Bruh idk about others but I stan!!!

The story got nothing to do with Sewing machine or anything tho but its really cute and funny. Its really light and refreshing especially for me who has read too much heavy topic BLs so give it a try, y’all. MC is so much fun... more>> to read about lol he’s so logical and professional and thinks there’s nothing wrong with being a sugar baby. While this novel is in no way high class literature it is good for what it is. It is a fluffy pick-me-up for in between longer novels.

The combination between a tsundere CEO who is actually just a big dog (considering how his legs act like a dog's tail) and a patiently doting sugar baby is quite nice. The power dynamics between the two is not as unequal as I had expected. While the ML has a sharp tongue the MC knows how to coax him into a good mood. The... more>> MC can basically play the ML like a fiddle.

The characterizations of the main leads makes them quite likeable and the sidekicks are also not annoying.

There is no drama at all and I am fine with that. The only thing I am on the fence about is how the MC developed feelings for the ML. It felt like he treated his sugar daddy pretty lightheartedly from the very beginning, working hard on pleasing his boss, but there did not seem to be a real turning point where you could see his purely business-like feelings shift to romantic ones.

Either way, I did not expect some deep plots or many details to begin with. My expectations weren't high. That's why my rating might be a bit more generous than usual. Not like I have any real complaints anyway. <<less

Cheng Chen (ML) is so pwecious, MUST PROTECC.... This short novel is too fluffy, my heart is soft.

Xu Nian (MC), on the other hand, is calm, collected and with wisdom beyond his age. These qualities allow him to see and appreciate Cheng Chen (beyond ML's tsun and knife mouth). Xu Nian is pretty sincere and frank with his intentions, every step of the way.

Their CP works, guaranteed fluffy and toothache-inducing 🤍 Happy reading!

Not too bad, but not what I'd call good.

The humor wasn't bad, it just didn't really work for me. Neither did the ML's tick with his leg, wasn't as cute or appealing as it was made out to be.

The romance was pretty much non-existing. The MC suddenly switched from using the ML for his money and treating it as a job, to being in love (supposedly) with the ML for no good reason (except of course his money). The ML's treatment of him wasn't how I'd want anyone to treat... more>> their romantic partner - there's tsundere and cute, and then there's being a rude idiot. The translator did explain that the ML's insults sounded different in Chinese, so some of it could be due to translation and cultural issues. I generally don't mind slightly homophobic who then turn out to be gay much to their own embarrassment, but I mind characters who are never nice to their SO at any point, even towards the end.

There's a smut extra that didn't much fit the overall tone, but seemed to be shoved in there for fan service. The 'pee pee' part just destroyed any kind of sexy mood.

I've read way better stories with tsundere gong and flirty, cute, and upbeat shou.

As for sugar dating romances, I'd recommend The Bird and the Golden Cage instead, which has actual convincing romance. Here it just felt like the MC only went after the ML for his money even at the end, which left me with a bad taste in my mouth. <<less

I guess I can see the appeal to this in theory? But the characters in this are just very bland. Firstly, we have a tsundere gong, who is just extremely s*upid. It makes you wonder how he became a self-made CEO, for someone this successful and intelligent, he is easily being tricked by an 18-year-old?

Even with the matter of a low EQ, surely he'd need to have some level of self-awareness, or awareness of other's ulterior intentions, when he's working in the business world?

This would all be ignored, if only... more>> the shou appeared to have genuine feelings for the CEO? However, given the circumstances, and how blatantly he lies/manipulates the gong, I can't find this couple endearing at all. Maybe if you read it yourself you'd understand why.

Either way, don't think that despite the short chapters (and even shorter chapter count) that feelings naturally develop and they really fall in love. So far, I can't see any of that happening at all, and I don't intend to read further.

These two as a couple have no chemistry at all. It just seems like a s*upid, foolish CEO being read like a book (due to his leg shaking) and a shou who just says what he wants to hear so he can get money. If that's what ur into; 100% match. But this story lacked love and emotions. <<less

the story's so cute, fluffy, and funny!! It's not the typical sugar baby sugar daddy trope. If you wanna know why I suggest you check this one out.

everything's hilarious and sweet I tell you. The earlier chapters are quite gloomy considering mc's personal problems, but the atmosphere will eventually be lighter.

the translator also said that this story is free on jjwxc. So if you guys know how to operate that site, please leave some comments on it!

Currently reading and enjoying Nan Chan but my brain cells needed a break from the "bell chasing" (lol) and 'darkness'. Picked this up on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tsundere as f*** gong and sly, little money grubbing shou. Made me shake my head, laugh out loud and cleansed my cerebral palate. Good for a quick, fun break. Now back to Cang Ji and his possessive behavior.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A SEWING MACHINE, neither does the ML have a cute hobby (like sewing or creating something)

MC just entered university and took his ill mother with him in hope to get better treatment in the city. He is really poor and gets offerd the job as "sugar baby" by chance. Since the "sugar daddy" is homophobic he just wants him to pose as a love interest, noch going to bed with him. MC does a good job in pampering ML...

To be honest, I realy... more>> don't get why this is rated so high. The ML is rich and should be an overbearing CEO but you will never read anything alike its more a childish guy. He is not able to hide his reaktions and is calling MC a homo, even in bed. In my opinion this is not tsundere but s*upid.

For reasons I don't get, they fell in love. So I do get why ML would fall in love since he get pampered s*upid but MC is not really giving an explenation I could actually agree with or get the feeling. I was waiting for some sweetnes and got nothing.

This is a short story that you can read when bored but you will not lose out on not reading it. <<less

What a fun relationship dynamic! I really loved how precious the ML is and how calm the MC is. Their pairing is *chef's kiss* Also, the ML really made it hard for MC to chase him SKJSKJSKJSKJSK. The translator is from CG so I'm relieved this novel is in good hands. Waiting for the complete translation~

This was a cute story to me, but I can understand the readers that couldn't see the cuteness. ML is an extreme tsundere who says offensive homophobic words at the beginning. In the end, he says the same but in whole different tone.

The title of the story is because ML though he says harsh words or whilst being very tsundere shakes his right leg like as if he is using a sewing machine. That means he is very happy instead, so MC always knows his real feelings.

MC is a very pro active, sunny, smart sugar baby, who is happy to use ML's generous money. About their relationship development...

when excited he shakes his leg and in the novel it is referred to as something endearing, like a dog shaking their leg when you scratch their belly.. sorry, but big turnoff... imagine, you go with your partner to a restaurant and touch their hand on the table and they start visibly shaking their leg, unable to control their excitement but at the same time not aware??

The MC is a mish mash of intentions, didn't become a relatable persona or character, for me anyway.

This is a romance that is slightly fuelled by rich/poor circumstance, the MC is simply a puppet of what the author wants and the ML being someone with a permanent developmental issue.

Lots of others seem to have enjoyed it, so I leave it up to you to make that decision, anyway, apparently I read it almost until the end, somehow. <<less

It was good for a short story, more better than other short stories out there. The MC has a very likeable personality. The ML's a little unique, a bit like a tsun dog. Read it, the chapter's not many.

A short story but worth every second!

As always, Chrysanthemum Garden means quality for me and this is no exception. The translation is amazing and perfectly conveys the tone of the story.

This is very short with only 24 chapters, and the raws are 100% free as well, so if you like a straightforward MC, a tsundere ML and (little to) no angst: This is the story for you~

Xu Nian is one of my favourite MCs and his patience is on another level. Cheng Chen started out a little annoying for me,... more>> but he really is too cute and I really like him as the ML.

So wholesome and sweet. The big boss ML is a little childish and poor tempered, but the MC is happy to humor and take care of him. A very cute short story! It was a pleasure to read the translation.
