Kim Jiyeon, a student on leave leading an ordinary life, finds herself transmigrated into the romance novel, ‘The Saint’s Flower,’ that her friend had shown her.

Within the novel that she had read only halfway through, there was a girl named Iora. The romantic world of the saintly heroine and the male hero was clearly not her own. Nonetheless, she believed she could find happiness because she had become a character in the novel, just like the protagonist.

However, everyone cast their hatred upon her, accusing her of being the tormenting villain and a fake holy virg*n, Iora. So, once again, she was threatened with death. A sacrificial lamb for the sacred female protagonist, a villain deserving of punishment, but it wasn’t so.

Iora was, in fact, a true holy saint. Returning to the beginning through the blessing of the divine .

She had no family, no haters, no sainthood, no beloved fiancé, and no need for any of it. She would walk a different path.

This is story is extremely slow burn, but surprisingly it's not too much of a drag, and that's definitely for the great translation that helps make it more durable to continue to the next chapters.

The beginning of the story is very heavy with tragedy and the author does a great job setting up the scenes and the tone to each of the chapter. We get to know the protagonist in a deep level through her monologues and I am constantly rooting for her peace. My biggest praise is that so... more>> far there's not a lot of plot-holes or totally unreasonable actions. The story is told with great clarity especially on the emotional impact on the readers.

Patience is key for reading this novel. From the cover, I assume that the ML would be the one with the black hair as described in the novel... He rarely shows up to a point I thought that 2nd ML would be the ML, because he has more interactions with the MC than anyone else. When the ML does arrive, the chemistry is great between the ML and MC. They're both cheeky with each other and the MC is relaxed with him, but he won't be written until 15+ chapters later. Perhaps it might change in the future to which I hope. <<less

This is definitely an angst novel. (Or sweet potato, if you’re used to Korean slang.) Don’t take that “abusive characters” tag lightly.

It falls into a niche that I oddly enjoy.

The main character is broken and hopeless. She tries her best, but it takes everything she has just to get through the day. I enjoy reading about strong, determined heroines, but I suppose I also like broken heroines because they’re closer to my own life experiences. So, I find the MC’s character believable and not annoying—though I know some people won’t... more>> be able to stand her helplessness.

With that said, 45 chapters in we’re still setting up for the main plot. Certain characters are revealing their true colors while other important characters are being introduced. This novel has the potential to end up being really satisfying, but we’re definitely not there yet. I’ll try to come back and update this review once things start moving in that direction. <<less
