Regressor Instruction Manual by Author: Heulgsujeo

The main character (MC)

The goal of our main character is just one: SURVIVAL. For this he uses his limited but effective collection of abilities/traits

... more>> Positive

  1. A very good understanding of human communication and manipulation
  2. Extensive understanding of politics, marketing and business
  3. Skill to see the abilities and potential of growth, from other people and creatures
  4. Very high intelligence (can understand very complicated connections and consequences of actions on big systems such as economies, kingdoms and the people surrounding them, very fast thinking speed)
  5. Very high stress resistance and emotional stability
Negative

  1. Psychopathic tendencies
  2. Low/extremely low empathie (but not a lack of understanding of it)
  3. Very Low overall Potential in ability growth (tr*sh)
  4. Because of his very weak combat ability he has to make use of his other abilities to best solve a situation.
Characters

They are the strong point of this novel. Very consistent in their actions, and believable. The number of characters in any given situation isn’t to big to loose overview of what is happening at any given moment. They have their own goals and experiences which heavily influence their own actions. They change over the course of the story depending on their new experiences and contact with other characters.

Conclusion

A psychopath, a loving airhead, a time traveler, a yandere, a human sacrificing priest and a person filled with righteousness walk in to a bar. How they influence each other and the situations their facing is causing can cause quite the crazy events, which is the most fun part of this novel.

As an example we have our scheming psychopathic main character. Who tries to only think logically on any given situation. Whose plans sometimes more sometimes less achieve the desired results. Those plans include going over mountains of corpses and converting good loving people in to monsters and even worse than those he is facing that would die fighting for him. Is this ethically, or morally justifiable? Maybe yes, maybe not. Is it effective? DEFINITELY!!!

To half quote our MC: My first priority is survival and I will do anything to achieve this goal, so if the continent has to die for me to survive, I couldn't care less) <<less

I really like this novel especially MC, he is not your typical korean MC where usually they doesnt need any teammate, this MC really need his friend and teammate because he know he cant survive alone, and I like how smart he is even though some of his plan doesnt work he can adapt and change the plan and make the best kind of outcome. Every side character have good development too, and I like every male friend that MC have in here atleast have patner unlike many japanese series... more>> where they usually become joke character or uglier than MC so they can show how cool MC is. I usually hate harem because how 2 dimensional all the girl in harem but in here I love every girl in MC harem and I love how he is afraid when people fall in love with him because he know what a girl in his harem would do LOL.

overall one of the best korean series i've read, and the translation is fast too, and sorry for my bad english <<less

To put it simply, this novel is very interesting. Even though the MC is not too OP, MC use his brain to solve problem, situation, and taming people around him (especially female) for his use. The comedy scene also hit my taste. Very recomended.

Have you ever read a novel and thought : "The MC justified his actions but in the end he also did some shameless things"?

Well, on this one, the MC knows that he is a scumbag and most of the time does not care. He uses all means possible to succeed and knows his shortcomings. However to his defense, it's not that he is completely shameless as he does care about his allies.

The world is well-built, every single character has some sort of unique personality that makes them interesting and the... more>> growth system is well-thought. Don't be discouraged by the slow start because the plot just keeps getting better, funnier and more interesting.

Definitely a must-read for, well, every reader. <<less

Hoo boy! This is one of the heavyweights in KR LNs I've read thus far for sure. I'm surprised there isn't any community hype surrounding it. To me, RIM is the perfect mashup of the elements I've come to know and love from SCG, TCF, and Omniscient Reader. Like SCG, there is a tutorial, in fact, many tutorials bringing in people from across the globe to this fantastical continent. The Players settle in their own respective kingdoms and form their own communities which is an interesting dynamic to have. The... more>> Status and Power Levelling concepts will also be reminiscent of SCG. Like TCF, this feels like a disjointed story slowly coming together in this mish mash of a family scenario (not exactly but.. you'll know what I mean). The MC could be the delinquent single father friend Cale wish he'd had (though he does have his harem going for him like in SCG, but this one feels more convincing). And like Omniscient Readers, the dynamic between the two main male leads is just the best mish mash of bromance and comedy. Unlike most stories though, the MC is immensely competent, which tends to dig his grave down deeper at times. And oh boy are the payoffs to these developments satisfying.

Spoiler

Okay a bit of spoiler territory. So, we got a cute draggy baby like Raon. MC is responsible for a lot of 'kids'. And is no pushover to say the least. He isn't the Main Character archetype usually seen, rather the dynamic is more reminiscent of Omniscient. The second male lead (if you can call him that) is a returner, and the MC has an ability that lets him see through stats so thats how he jumps on the ship. But as it turns out, MCs first iteration may not be as simple as he once thought. There are definitely some mystery elements to the backstories. The characters are really compelling with their own traits. How they're all crazy SOBs is just as colourful as SSS class su*cide hunter. The Cast just keeps on getting more interesting and their dynamic more enjoyable. The MC is by no means the good guy. You could say he's a bit of villain with a penchant for rubbing off his vibe on others. But that works out for the better for us as readers. This harem is one of the more compelling I've come across. Especially since the MC is really no bs and won't pu*sy out of sh*t he wants. And all the members are well... it suits his traits. So far, I'm having a blast. But I do admit it starts of a bit slow, but the you'll see that the pacing is appropriate in time. Its not über action-y, but the developments will keep you begging for more. I'm not used to writing reviews, so I apologise it seeming like a bag of air. But basically, if you like any of the stories I've mentioned and are looking for something similar in vibe, this is definitely it.

this is a very good novel. I really like the characters, plot, world, and pacing of the novel. The novel plot as said by title and description seem like the generic Korean style regressor novel (which I will read anyway), but I think what set it apart is the character, especially the MC.

try reading it.

One of the best novel I've ever read. Intriguing and fresh plot, developed characters and the foreshadowing that's been happening has been keeping everything tense as of the time of this writing.

Translation quality is very good, with minimal mistakes. The text and nuance is carried over to a understandable level. Kudos to the translation team for this.

So far, my total rating is 4.7 and here is why:
-Plot: 4.3
Although the plot is the generic transported to another world, this time the cheat character is another person than the MC. It was kinda fresh, and frankly I liked that the protagonist was weak since that forced him to use his brain. There were some parts where suspension of disbelief can take you so far that it becomes ridiculous.

-Translation Quality: 4.8
I can feel the effort on this one. The translation has been done very well, and everything follows up logically with minimal mistake. The original intent from Korean was carried over, and I have nothing that I could nitpick on.

-Release Date: 5.0
Although there were some gaps in release time, they make up by releasing in batches. I love how they do this, as I can binge read in a single sitting and stop at a satisfying part of the story.

I highly recommend this novel for reading. Chapters aren't that long and an amazing read that you won't regret.

At the start, you can see the rise to power of a scumbag, manipulative protagonist with some truly unique and oftentimes unpredictable fellows - with all their some craziness and depth - when they were caught in a mass transportation another world. And I like it! It is leading to something truly interesting with it showing it's quirks and potential in the writing and setting. Lots of dialogue, schemes, politics, world building, psychology so beware. There are flaws and maybe even holes, but I don't really care, it's enjoyable -... more>> I just admit that it's imperfect.

Regarding the protagonist, Lee Kiyoung, he knows his own murky human nature. Selfish, manipulative, hypocritical, sharp, cunning, has villainous tendencies. He still has his human sides and contradictory in feelings at times at that, and he shamelessly acts and live knowing of this fact. Although, are the things shown really as they are? Is Kiyoung really aware of himself? Or is his extensive rationalization a cover-up? The subtle complexities will really tug at your heart and intrigue your head, so get ready when you read it!

Another user mentioned plot armor... Don't all novels have one? Not to bash your own opinion, but in my perspective, TCF is complex yes but just follows a set formula wherein the protagonist doesn't experience any character development and always seems to get all the strengths with 'disadvantages' that really are an excuse for more developments. I like TCF, but by far I will put RIM on a higher tier because of it's multi-facetedness and a delightful and diverting execution of the cliches common to korean novels (I don't mind, in fact, the shortcomings are offset by the improvements). <<less

It is without a doubt a fascinating story. The character's personality challenges the norms that I have been comfortable with. The more I read, the more I become comfortable because he is tr*sh I can agree with. Read the novel it will not disappoint you. I can guarantee the story will hook you up like cocaine.

Edit:

Most of the people who reviewed this with low stars seem to have skimmed a lot of detail that they find so many glaring flaws. I have read up to 559 chapters and I... more>> have not been disappointed a single bit (Except when the translation group leaves you in a cliffhanger).

So I decided to read this novel when I was bored. I was in for a pleasant surprise.

I'm just going to list some things I really enjoyed while reading it.

  1. If you haven't noticed, there is a harem tag. It's not your typical harem though. The members are "unique" in their own ways. Some may even say crazy. The MC actually has to manage his relationships. If he neglects some of them for too long, there will actually be serious consequences.
  2. The main character doesn't seem to be very strong. He primarily uses his wit and leverages his advantages in order to make his survive. There isn't anything he wouldn't resort to, whether it be threatening, blackmailing, or even faking his emotions.
  3. Although the MC isn't strong compared to the rest of his companions, he isn't exactly weak either. He does whatever he can to get stronger, but since his potential isn't the greatest, he resorts to outside influences. This means getting items, titles, or training his companions.
  4. The mc's internal monologues are funny. He's a calculating person, so when his plans go awry, he curses at people in his head.

Amazing novel. The interactions between the characters are entertaining and the world has a pretty neat concept. There's the mystery with his skill and the previous regression world and what he did. It's interesting to see just how different his life was in his past life and his current one.

There's a ton of crazy girls in the harem which I love.

Overall, I would highly recommend this novel.

So the MC's a rat, and everyone loves him, obviously they don't know he's a rat right? WRONG

They love him for his rattyness. 10/10 for that.

MC reminds me of if Om Reader and tr*sh Count were actually tr*sh, (AKA how they perceive themselves). Even then, the MC isn't currently total tr*sh, he's just slightly sociopathic so he takes revenge a little far. He's less 'evil' than the 'waifus' of this story.

Spoiler

Like, he even feels guilty about what he did in the Alpha-world line

pretty enjoyable read so far. Not on the same level as Reader or tr*sh Count, but still quite a bit better than Novel's extra after canon especially or of the likes. I personally like this a lot better than SS-Class, in which the MC is totally a rat but no one seems to realize his rattyness, not even his self. <<less

I wonder why the author didn't go for the adult road.. The kind of harem this novel has is really adapted.

The feeling I got while reading is.. It's a mix of politics like those FML protagonist in ancient china and your typical fantasy with all races, magic and divine power. The center of the mix being the MC and the women around him. How he deals with them and what he wishes to do in order to be safe (?). Neither side of the mix is too present, and if... more>> you dislike either you may not like the novel I think

The 'protagonist' of the world should not be him, but perfect boy regressor. It's amusing having a third point of view on this, since it appears obvious how protag boy wants to take opportunities he knows about.

Many relationships aren't sane, it's about obsession, it may feel like mind control sometimes.

The ambiance is kinda dark, but there is still comedy.

The biggest barrier of entry for this novel is the Protagonist's philosophy of results being more important than the methodology. The Protagonist has, on multiple occasions, traumatized his friends in order to make them stronger. It's incredibly effective, but again, trauma. If you're fine with that, keep reading.

The next barrier is the Harem tag. I first dropped this novel at the early chapters because of it, but I pushed on, and I don't regret it at all. What helped me was that the MC doesn't really understand what love is,... more>> and in this f*cked up world everyone's been transferred to, almost everyone's view of love is f*cked up in some sort of way. Of the three 'main girls' in the harem, one loves him because they both have abandonment issues and need each other, one loves him because they're both manipulative POS who work best together (soulmates), and the other just finds Kiyoung to be her type. I usually hate a lot of Harems because they all try to operate under 'true love', but this novel does not do that.

The last barrier of entry is just the MC himself. He's definitely not a good person, but he's not an a**hole. He does bad things but it's never for the sake of being bad. The MC wants to survive comfortably in this world, and not be abandoned. He'll do anything for that, and if it means starting a war to protect one of his friends, or traumatizing his friends so they don't leave him, then so be it. He's a manipulative piece of shit, and people might be upset over characters liking the MC, but we mainly see everything from the MC's perspective. From a complete outsider viewpoint, the MC is a really great guy. He's kind and generous, sweet and sacrificial, just someone you want to dedicate yourself too. On top of that, once the MC has deemed a character as 'his', he's actually pretty dedicated to them. He makes sure they thrive, and while he justifies it as beneficial for him, he really does care.

Oh, and he'll never be overwhelmingly, objectively, powerful. He's definitely the most influential--he's a commander. He doesn't need to be strong, because the people around him are strong enough to make up for it. And he's happy like that. If you're fine with all of this, I'd say to give the novel a chance. It's honestly one of the most fun reads out there-the MC's personality makes almost every scene a laugh.

For my unfiltered, personal opinion:

Holy sh*t this is absolutely an amazing novel.

Spoiler

What other novel has the MC and his girlfriend do gender bent maid role play multiple times?? What other novel has the MC being killed, and the whole time the MC can't stop thinking about how handsome the guy was, even when he was crying and vomiting? What other novel has the MC turn into a snake who*e god???

[collapse]

Anything I could have ever wanted in a novel exists here. It's amazing and I'm definitely biased but what an adventure it is. <<less

This novel has a unique litrpg power system which is quite nice. The world building is decent as this novel is mainly focused on relationships and the tr*shy nature of kiyoung.

I feel like there's a noticeable dip in quality around the mid 100s. Maybe it improves later, but I'm not there yet.

Examples:

    • Genuinely tense plots/interactions dramatically decrease while light humor and fluffy dialogue increases.
    • A larger percentage of the writing becomes romantic tensions as the MC's harem increases--and much of it feels forced.
    • Characterization becomes less detailed/intricate and more simplistic.
    • The rational and critical thinking that made the MC so interesting in the beginning goes down several notches. In contrast, more things magically work out for him.
    • Although the number of actors increases, their interactions do not. In other words, you would expect the world to get messier as the number of personal goals and motivations increase. However, the author keeps things in neat little packages that begin to feel increasingly contrived and boring. Things go from point A to point B, with little deviation in between. It feels like a laundry-list of plot points that the author just wants to touch on.

The novel is interesting enough, with an interesting MC who's abilities lie in his intelligience, hard work and political know how in short a scheming bastard and I like that. Sadly the further I read currently at 300 the fun parts are more rare, the harem increasingly annoying deus ex machina elements which is his real "cheat". I could generally power through the harem but the "entertainment" value for me at least has been dropping drastically.

Its a good read nonetheless at least at first might even improve after the arc... more>> I am on but I can no longer maintain interest in their story. You can give it a try though. <<less

One thing, this novel is not excellent but it is good. The MC is the worst piece of tr*sh I have ever encountered upon my journey of reading. No, I'm not exaggerating... He would destroy a country to restore his image, worst yet to better his image (which means he really didn't need to). He tries to keep his "Good person facade" all the time. Not juat through his allies but also through himself. He brainwashes himself to thinking nothing is his fault, so even though he gets softer (a... more>> bit) it won't make much of a difference.
Spoiler

Like the time when he literally destroyed the republic and framed an innocent person to make the regressor believe that he was the person was the main antagonist of tge first timeline (even tho it was actually the MC) and he even thinks to himself that it really was that person to feel less guity about what he did back then (God, I feel bad for Jin Qing)

[collapse]

But what can I say... He is just my favorite piece of tr*sh...

People may think that the MC is weak but no, he is not weak at all. He is juat surrounded by geniuses (Except Deokgu). But considering the limit of his stats, it is safe to say that he was the one who pushed himself the most and he is far stronger than normal people
Spoiler

Like when he pretended to be a girl.

[collapse]
. He always says that he is a piece of tr*sh with no talent but deception and instigation, and that he just benefits from the minds eye but you'll be able to see that he is a genius of his own way and that he cares about his subordinates (albeit not in the first timeline). He's actually a good boss who'll pay you as much (or even more) as what you deserve and a good battle tactician that can use everything in his hands.

Spoiler

You'll be able to see his talent quite early. As you'll notice that he knows they weren't making a good progress in their first dungeon despite him lacking experience

[collapse]

So I would give it a five stars instead of four because of the severely biased ratings just because they hate harem and like an OP MC and whatnot... <<less

I thought that I'd be tr*shy enough to understand MC's tr*shiness. But holy moly he's a dumpster fire. The beginning was very promising and pushed through for a few more chapters (tbh I just wanted to reach the 100th). However, this got to a point that I was really skimming through the chapters like I was reviewing homework. Yes, it got tiring. The cringe and cancer finally got me. It's not about turning off the brain or not, I read MTL ffs. This novel is just one of the reasons... more>> that I'm so abhorrent towards romance when I see it in one of these novels.

I'm ok with a scammer MC, "I Shall Seal The Heavens" was one of the first novels I started with. My webnovel reading experience begun with xianxia and wuxia novels, that shaped my preference pretty early on.

Guess I am an action junkie then.

I am ok with romance, if implement coherently in the plot, or you can be like "SSS Class su*cide Hunter". The FL was good but just wasn't for someone like me who wanted only the shounen part of the story, however, the writing was so good that I overlooked that. "Second Time Ranker", "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint", "tr*sh of the Count's Family", "The SSS-Classes That I Raised" are more of my type of Korean novels.

Personally, I think that when an arc of a novel can be summarized by the addiction of another harem waifu... Well that's concerning.

Spoiler

I'm in for some fanfic about the Legendary Swordman and Alchemist, but that's it. I'm guilty ok. I got curious abt the novel because I liked the ship and wanted to know if this was worth the read. Someone convinced me to try it by saying that it was like ORV and the harem tag is just illusionary... dude literally f*cks at some point...

Kim Dokja would never because he's just that socially awkward bastard cinnamon roll I love and care about.

[collapse]

I guess I can see how some people may like the novel. But for someone who has read many novels and has already developed a personal taste in books, this is just not cut for me.

I really want to give a one star but I'll up to three because of the ship and the person who recommended it to me was nice, plus the writing wasn't bad. It's just the harem and the plot development that got kinda underwhelming because it wasn't strong enough to combat the cringe that his "harem" gave me. <<less

Man, I just couldn't bring myself to continue, but after I bring myself to read it again I just try to enjoy it as much as I can and it was a success.

Just try to read this novel not too seriously and you'll be able to enjoy it. The MC, Lee Kiyoung is a scammer through and through while the rest of the characters indulge him in it. This novel always never fails to amuse me and bring out a laugh from me who even doesn't read comedy, so it's a plus for me.
