“Until the day humanity falls.”

In the year 2020, Earth’s magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases.

In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe.

An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and merciless—as soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot.

But An Zhe’s mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng’s eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds…

Somewhat I did know this series will be perfect. After I started reading, I realized that every sentence in this book has an aesthetic taste. The descriptions are realistic and the images can be easily envisioned. It feels like I'm watching a movie.

Spoiler

MC: Our main character has a pure and honest personality. He has no complex thoughts and a fairly simple mind. He's not smart, nor does he pretend to be smart. This makes him extremely cute. But hardworking and determined. He is determined to put himself in danger so he can reunite with his spor. Do not understand the term "spor" here as if it were the child of the main character. It's more of a vessel that lives symbiotically with it.
An Zhe is too bright for this brutal world. He just shines. In ML, he quickly admires its radiance.
Also, the fact that he sacrificed himself for humanity after going through so many things shows how kind-hearted he is.

ML: When you first meet the male lead character, you think he is a ruthless, cold-blooded, callous killer. But over time, ML becomes the most pathetic person for you when you see that he is doing nothing but suppressing all the emotions in him, only willing to be a pawn for the good of people, to keep people alive.
ML has killed so many people that it doesn't even know how many. But it overcomes the guilt that will begin to rise by constantly repeating what it does to keep people alive. Countless times they ask him "Do you regret it?". He never regrets what he did. At first, I could not understand his interest in MC. But when the story went forward and retold some events from ML's point of view, I could do nothing but sympathize with him.

These two must be protected! We should open an association or something. This sweetness, this integrity, this story should be read and taught. 。 ・ ゚ ・ (ノ Д`) ヽ ( ̄ω ̄)

Novel recommended! I just wanted a little more about the other couple, but it's also interesting to leave that to the reader. In addition, the main plot is very well constructed, you realize that there was research, there are moral conflicts and the relationships are subtle and intense at the same time. It manages to arrest and arouse curiosity. Anyway, 5 stars.

This novel is very unique and good! I was hesitant to read this because of the heavy theme, I was scared it would affect my mood but it didn’t.
Spoiler

this novel has heavy theme because it involves people dying but it’s not that heavy as long as you remember that this happens during an apocalypse, people die and people need to die

[collapse]
Unlike other apocalyptic novel this one is really unique and I love this!!

The relationship between the MC and ML is also smooth like they didn’t like each other at first and how they got to know each other is pretty interesting. This novel is also not about a mary sue MC or an MC heavily reliant on an ML. This one is very interesting, I tell you!

Spoiler

though you can feel the tension between them and Im like omomomomo their relationship wasnt really confirmed until like almost the end but that’s what makes this good too

[collapse]

Also the summary says the ML bullies the MC but I think it’s more like the ML teases the MC and it’s not really that severe teasing like always, just rarely and this is what makes it so good and makes me grin like an idiot lol

I guess the only think I don’t like about this
Spoiler

is that it’s pretty heavy with terms and I couldn’t follow the progress of the apocalypse by the later part but it’s maybe a problem with my comprehension too cause I wanted to read it fast since I needed to work already

[collapse]

Also the novel might start confusing or maybe uninteresting but I tell you! Just keep reading and you won’t regret it!!

A fantastic story and the description does it no credit. I've come across this story a few times but never gave it a chance since I found the description off-putting and boy, was I missing out. Interesting characters, engaging plot and premise and translated well to boot.

Highly recommended and I hope others will give it a try despite the lackluster description.

one of the best novels i've read

little mushroom has an extremely cute MC which is an zhe, our little mushroom, and a cold, aloof and seemingly unapproachable ML, how do they end up together? oh it's a long long way

so this plot wasamazingly done, you know I thought that all the sci-fi, genetics, physics, etc. would bore me and make the novel complicated for me. BUT it didn't at all, so if you're like me that is kinda reluctant to read apocalyptic settings with sci-fi... well, don't be, little mushroom... more>> is so entertaining that you won't stop reading until you finish it

the plot twists, wow, specially from the second volume, I was :o
Spoiler

madam lu resented lu feng for being the judge, of course it's understandable but human nature is selfish, and in the end she chose her own selfishness to end with the garden of eden and be (bee lol) free

[collapse]

the love story is bittersweet bc u expect lu feng to be a very ruthless boy towards an zhe
Spoiler

which he does at some point but then he redeems himself by giving an zhe his gun (no pun intended) QAQ

[collapse]
but he loves his little mushroom so much, and although an zhe may be a little new to human feelings, he is clear about his feelings towards lu feng <3 <<less

This is a memorable novel for me. This is the first novel BL that I read and it is a start of everything good in my life... Ok sorry for that cheesy lines but I really mean it.

I stay up until morning to binge reading this and the story are really good. It's HE but I seriously thought it won't be. The tone are just too realistic, it's dark, it have slight comedy on it but there is just so many things go wrong in the story I can't help... more>> but thinking 'welp, this is it, they are done' but that didn't stop me from reading it.

It's been year since I read it but only now I remember to review it so forgive me for not-so-good-review, but believe me when I say this is a must read novel because it is that good! <<less

I've been wanting to do a review for a long time, but forgot my user for novel updates lol. I wish I could give a more detailed review but it's unfortunate it's been half a year now and sadly I only remember the feelings this gave me. I don't remember most of it. But the important pieces, I'm sure if I read again I'll remember all of it.

Honest opinion???

BEST f*ckING THING I'VE EVER READ. I remember I cried so hard. I remember the cuteness I felt twords are little non... more>> feeling mushroom. I remember how chaotic and beautiful this story was. I never get emotional for reads most the time but, this is an exception. This is a gem, the story keeps you hooked and the romance is sad at times and it's very fantasy. If you see negative comments about this piece of art, ignore it and read anyway. I can't express how amazing this is!!!! 😔💖 <<less

An excellent science fiction novel, which, although apocalyptic, constantly keeps you on the edge of hope. A correct writing and a convincing scientific argument (perhaps some concession to metaphysics), for which it is worth revealing. Thanks to the author and the translator 💕

This novel is compelling from the first page, and while the last part drags a little bit, the novel is short enough for it not to matter. The main character is a great guide into the terrible, cruel world of the novel, and I found him very easy to understand and empathize with. The world itself has things to say, but, more importantly, it has emotions to convey and a mood to set. I would highly recommend reading this novel in one go if you can, but even if that's... more>> not possible I would easily recommend this novel to anyone who's up for some emotions. <<less

I knew what I was going into when I started reading this book from the reviews written by other readers. There were moments I laughed, a handful of moments I cried, a few times I cringed (because of how descriptive some of the scenes were), at times I sighed and others, I had to put it down and stare off into space just to let it all sink in.

A few things to note if you plan on taking on this journey:

  1. It's not a good idea to read this while eating. Yi Shi Si Zhou is not stingy when it comes to being descriptive...
  2. It's also not a good idea to read this in public especially near the end lest you don't mind crying in public.
  3. Don't bother with a death count.
  4. It goes to dark, to darker, to just down right blue-black bleak and you have to remind yourself over and over again that it has a happy ending.
  5. Because it does get to that point multiple times, do take a step back if you need to, go for a walk, eat something yummy, hug a loved one... and then come back after you've rested your heart.
Ah, An Zhe, our Little Mushroom. I cried for you and wanted to hug you, to protect you from that cruel world you were cast into and how... more>> my heart broke for both you and the Colonel. An Zhe, thank you for being his light TT

An Zhe and Lu Feng/Judge/Colonel's relationship really, truly was heartwarming and served like a solid rope to keep me from free falling into the abyss of despair that I sometimes felt like I was hovering over while reading this book. In the midst of all the things happening in this story, it was my joy and pleasure to watch their feelings for each other grow. <<less

Hey, writing a review is optional but after finishing this story I just have to write one. Because the story of Little Mushroom deserves your ATTENTION, PRAISE and LOVE.

The synopsis might make you think it's simple and full of fluff but it's not. It's so much more than that. Made me regret not reading before.

When I started? I just can't stop.

... more>> When I finished reading it? I'm satisfied but I still want more.

The story is very original. ABSOLUTELY NOT CLICHED storyline and plot. The world building for the 89 chapters is just amazing.

The characters? They're HUMAN. The author gave life and HEART to each of them and made me love even the smallest cannon fodder.

A reminder though, once you pick it out of the shelf and start reading, always remember the translator's notes and memorize it by heart: ITS A HAPPY ENDING!!! Its for your own good. Because Little Mushroom is not fluffy, it's a rollercoaster that will grip your heart.

The novel made me feel so much that I kept reciting 'its HE' over and over. Because you just have to wish the characters a happy ending - they deserve it, and the author gave it. <<less

It's a very recommend reading, it moves quickly and there are no boring moments, most of the time you don't know what's going to happen next.

It was a very interesting story, I especially liked the world building, the descriptions are vivid so it's even more fascinating.

It had many touching and sad moments but it also had many others that were heartwarming, funny and full of hope. It was well balanced, considering it's set in an apocalyptic future.

The MC was naive but not dumb, he was just a little mushroom adapting... more>> himself to human life. His relationship with the ML was cute and comforting. <<less

This story tugged my heartstrings. I went through rollercoaster of emotions and it had me crying at the end.

The way the story is set up is very unique. MC and ML are very lovable, , , they're so cute together.

The story has both fluff and angst with a satisfying ending. Glad I read it :)

I will give my honest opinion. Thank you author for the hard work.

I have completed it within two consecutive days. Honestly speaking at the biological term made my IQ collapsed. However, later there are interpretation of the term which is why I continued to go forward. At the end I felt a bit lost.

The translation was good. Because of translation I gave it 3 otherwise I would give it 2.5. Well thses are my thoughts on this no offense to anyone.

Thank you author and carry on.

A decent read, I kind of despised the MC / ML though. MC was way too passive, and submissive towards the ML, sometimes even to an unbelievable degree. ML on the other hand suffers from "OP ML Syndrome" where the author tries their hardest to make the ML sound, and act like the most powerful person around, which really doesn't seem like it should be the case. Overall it was like the other reviewers say, lots of "wtf" and "HUH?" moments sprinkled with sadness.

Man, this is what an apocalypse truly feels like.

Everyone just... dies.

The angst is real. The worldbuilding is unique (although I feel skeptical about the 'science, ' I'll treat it as something magical). The main character is sweet. He's naive, but not dumb. The ML is complex but a good person. Their interactions are heartwarming.

... more>> The ending was great! This novel really makes you feel emotions. It's great how some things mentioned early on matter in the end. The side characters weren't focused on, but they're quite likable.

EDIT: Ayyy, a pretty new cover! <<less
