– The planet [Earth] has entered the abnormal state [Apocalypse].

– You have failed in saving the Earth. The Authority, [Vintage Clock (EX)] rewinds the world’s time.

For Yu Jitae, it was a message he had seen many times.

It was tiresome.

It would have been great had he died with everyone else.

But he couldn’t, for his authorities that made him the strongest existence, brought him back in time whenever he died.

And even with his strength, he couldn’t protect the broad earth against the maddened dragons.

– The world’s time will soon begin.

As the clock resumed ticking in the direction it should, his 7th iteration came to a start.

Fortunately, he finally had the gist of it.

An excellent take on the "OP regressor" genre. Our story starts with the MC regressing to a point in his past and a goal of saving the world from a catastrophe that it is not prepared for. The MC has more power than any other human alive and knowledge of the future. And then, shockingly, things stay interesting.

The story is about the MC trying to make a world where these four girls can be happy. His mind is thoroughly ruined after countless regressions and lifetimes of combat and suffering but... more>> he is numb to the possibility of "setting things right" by now and he is just trying to remember what it means to live a normal life. And honestly the author pulls it off pretty well. There is definitely some angst but we don't wind up with some sort of emo anime character like Sasuke Uchiha. It is fun to see the MC rediscover his emotions and as the story progresses we also get to learn about these young dragons and see their personalities come into focus. Readers can expect some action and lots of the MC stomping villains. The writing quality is above average and the author finds good ways to explain why some unexpected events are able to surprise the MC. Give this a shot if you like the tags or if you just want to see why regressing might not always be a blessing. I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5 because there are some issues with pacing in the later chapters where the author's development of the dragons stops the progress of the story. It isn't a problem if you are bingeing but when you are waiting three or four days between chapters, you start to notice. <<less

The only thing I can compare it to is "Spy X Family": extraordinary people pretending to live a normal life; but like a hundred times worse. The only thing that's done well is dramatic moments, but they are not the focus here, unfortunately, and still are rather underwhelming.

Starts dull and boring. The only emotion this got out of me was a few chuckles about how MC has trouble understanding human emotions. With time I had to think that human emotions are an alien thing for the author as well. I... more>> never do this, but I even started to skim through, skipping paragraphs. It took some effort not to drop this, but the premise about magic school was promising enough to continue and see where it goes, and... it got better somewhat.

Regular focus on how "heroines are pretty" was blunt and needlessly excessive, with multiple repetitions even becoming uncomfortable. Good time to mention that writing in general... Is not very good here.

Outside of the main cast there are no side characters, just a faceless crowd. Villain is so one-dimensional, he could fit in a Scooby Doo episode. And the core of everything, the main character - feels like a drone. It makes sense from the story perspective, but in such cases characters around him should've compensated for his lack of personality. In slice of life scenes it really does happen, but most of the time everything is just as emotionless as he is.

I must compliment at least something, and it will be the structure of the story. Pacing is great and the author tries really hard to create a good balance between action, drama, comedy and slice of life moments. However, action is worthless; drama, even being somewhat decent, is barebones; the last two parts are the same dull and boring mess with occasional sparks of fun here and there. The whole package is a collection of good and bad parts, but it's better than just being "Meh", so it's barely readable.

I've read far too much more of it than I should. Every dozen chapters or so I had to make an effort not to drop this, but finally couldn't bring myself to continue. On paper, it should be just the thing I'm into, but the execution is far too poor. I cannot recommend it. <<less

Good slice of life with a dark Korean twist. Pretty interesting to read in my opinion. It's for those who want something warm but also accepts the world as a dark and twisted place.

ignore any review that is below 5.

this is a story of a overpowered time regressor who has lost touch with his humanity in continuous attempts to prevent apocalypse. As the summary states he got the gist of what needs to be done to prevent it this time.

author beautifully portrays the mindset of a toddler, a captive undergoing suspension effect, and also how robotic MC is in his actions and lost touch with society due to previous habits bull dozing all obstacles through iron fist and overpowered execution. MC on current... more>> regression chose to socialize with baby dragon's as he is unable to defeat adult dragons.
MC relearns how to behave like human through his clone and baby dragons and it's very very cute. <<less

I rarely write review anymore. But this one deserved it.

One of the best novel I read recently in... 2 years!

there is No Harem... at least to the chapter when this review was written.

There is cute and very fluffy little loli!

There is character development, and very distinct personality on character!

Over power MC, and funny face slapping!

Good story plot and fight scene, well thought out world structure.

personally I cant find a bad enough point to even drop half a star for this novel!

This is definitely one the best regressor novels I have ever read. The author has not let the OPness of the MC, hurt the story at all. This is also conveyed very well in the translation, which is quite amazing.

Forced to live through 6 iterations of the end of the world, Yu Jitae is probably as happy and overpowered as Yoo Jonghyuk. Now that he finally understands how to keep the worlds dangers in check, he strives to live a "normal" life. As the novel is picking up in popularity, I wanted to write this review to make sure there's no reviews it doesn't deserve. I truly wish for those looking in the reviews to consider reading more before dropping a 1* because Jitae's seen as dense, dull, or... more>> bland.

If the synopsis nor the other reviews didn't give enough exposition, think of the novel like Despicable Me. Gru picks up three orphans to take down the bad guy, eventually learning that negative emotions aren't the only thing he can feel. Yu Jitae adopts four young dragons in order to protect the Earth he is forced to save, eventually becoming a human once more. This novel doesn't go into any generic harem or dense MC stuff. Yu Jitae may no longer feel emotions at the moment, but he grows and eventually understands how his 'family' feels about him. His relationship with the four he's adopted are a father-daughter relationship, which are generally very wholesome. Furthermore, Yu Jitae's character is consistent, overpowered but smart, and grows from the mistakes he's made. His goals and actions never stray from his character, and always changes for the better. Jitae is forced to live a normal life despite being able to rip the universe to shreds to maintain the Earth, and it's very believable and wholesome to watch this story unfold. <<less

The plot feels very much like one punch men. The MC is a war vet and is super jaded from repeatedly failing to save the world even with what feels like unlimited power. It's a story about a man that finds humanity though his interactions with the dragons and though that comes self improvement for him and the dragons

Read this if you enjoy solid character interactions and character development. Not too much action but solid world building.

Extremely good. It doesn’t really fall under any specific tone of progression consistently throughout the story - deviating from Wholesome to Thrilling to Dramatic to Dark or even Silly, etc. The author tries to keep to a tone that matches the narrative of his deep story, and he isn’t too bothered with escalating things at an unprecedented (yet congruous) pace.

With even the lulls in the story drawing wide fissures of Implication upon near & distant plot-intricacies, even the most trivial & mundane of segments within this story seemed to hold... more>> obscured-intrigue that the reader feels compelled to pay attention to. Finally, I find it rather rare to come across stories where there’s a ‘complicated love’ other than something “carnal” depicted, and this is one of them. Though the outward appearance may be assumed as ‘1 guy; 4 girls’, in actuality they resemble a ‘family-unit’ more than anything - and it’s excessively endearing (in a good way, of course).

I will say though: there are times when things feel a bit “too edgy” - not because of the content, but because of the depiction, and although they ain’t a Deal-breaker, the fact that we’re still waiting for some of those overtly-edgy sentiments & depictions to be quantified beyond mere prose, does concern me about the overall & future priorities of the author. Just to be clear though, these unclear MC. Edge burgers are but a tiny, single Happy Meal in the grand scheme of the story—I’m only making it clear that they exist at all since it highlights the kind of writer the author is. ‘Extremes’ are a “happy-place” here—but rest assured that the vast majority of these Extremes feel very natural & not audacious.

4.5/5, I reckon. The romance, my god, I just can’t get enough of this kind of severely-adult & subtle relationship-building that isn’t just an accident or misunderstanding by the audience like it usually is~ <<less

A masterpiece.

It is truly amazing how the story unravels at the very end and everything you've read previously just suddenly clicks. It feels planned from the very first chapter, to the ending, and finally to the side stories. A fresh and exhilarating take on the regression genre that is heavily overused. You can clearly see the toll it takes on the MC, having regressed a crazy amount of times.

Spoiler

You think it's his 7th regression? b*tch, please. Only he counts it as his 7th regression. The real amount is 1000+.

The character development in this novel is something to behold. The characters feel more alive than myself and the relationships that come forth through their interactions are nothing but heart-warming. Granted, you will go through a multitude of emotions before finishing this novel. From happiness to anxiety to shock. Its immersion is on a different plane of existence.

And oh God, the romance. THE ROMANCE. Its development is something to die for.

There is also no shortage of cute things. Properly mixing in wholesome slice-of-life in between the gruesome and stressful scenes allow the readers a slight reprieve before continuing on with the story.

Unlike a certain novel that just stresses you out from the early-mid stages until its end (Ahem... Novel's Extra... Ahem)

From the bottom of my heart, I wish there was more. Not the actual novel itself; nothing should be changed from the narrative, it is perfect IMO. I want more side stories. I want to know about the lives they lead after the struggles they've experienced. 8 side story chapters to complement the journey of 400+ chapters is not enough. It leaves me yearning for more.

This novel is 6/5 in my books. Please give it a read at least once. It is absolutely worth your time.

A huge thank you to the TL of this novel. You deserve a standing ovation. Thank you for translating it excellently, you brought justice to this novel. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wish you all the best for your future works. Truly, thank you for translating Kidnapped Dragons. <<less

Novel Review: Kidnapped Dragons.

4 years. In the span of 4 years I read this novel, from start to finish. Time passed by and my life went on and I came back every week, every month to check on this novel. All the waiting and joys, tears and laughter While reading this has come to an end.

It's a beautiful work, told in the most lovely way. The aspirations and emotions of all the characters stuck with me. The 5 Years they spent in the actual story, I felt it clearly. Since... more>> I also spent almost 5 years reading it.

By now it became a big part of my life. It doesn't have the mind boggling World building of overlord, nor the enormous intricate power scaling of Fighting anime and manga. Nor does it have the sweet and heart throbbing romance of romcoms.

It's a perfect story of healing and forgiveness. Forgiveness of one's self and of others. The story taught me how to let go of the past and the weight and power of apologies and making up for your mistakes.

Treasuring your loved ones and embracing them should never be a chore.

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. The ending left me in awe and a sense of melancholy. I feel content, good, accomplished yet felt like it's not Enough. But such rudimentary emotions pale in comparison to the joy I feel. The story might have ended but the characters and their spirits lives on.

One of the best novels I've ever read nah, I Will ever read in my entire lifetime.

This story goes to my TOP #2 Novels in my lifetime. <<less

A novel with a fairly cliché premise of regressions but that quickly becomes a very interesting slice of life thanks to the secondary characters and the MC's personality change from an initial apathy towards everything in the world and himself to the rediscovery of his own emotions as the history progresses and his internal struggles for all the sin he has committed, all of this tied with his personal relationship with the dragons. It's not Harem!

Premise:

MC is an absurdly OP regressor in a sci-fi Korean dungeon fantasy setting. He gets sent back in time whenever he dies or if the majority of humanity dies. Over six failed iterations (in reality, it's thousands of regressions, but he only remembers six of them, with the rest spent by repeatedly "grinding" powers or doing certain tasks/experiments), he discovers that the main source of the apocalypse is the four titular dragon girls sent over from a distant dimensions on their "Amus**ent", a sort of vacation. Due to some external... more>> circumstances, they arrived without any support, and if they die, it alerts the adult dragons back in their home dimension and they are obligated to wreck Earth.

At the end of his 6th iteration, he discovers that just locking up the dragons don't work, so he sets up a household with the five of them, and tries to create a "normal life" for the girls, so that they could successfully complete their Amus**ent and go home. However, as if the combination of his inhuman attitude borne from hundreds of years of regressions and the girls' individual circumstances didn't pose enough threat to this new daily life already, it soon turns out that his actions in the 6th iteration inadvertently created a hostile force from outside of the timeline, single-mindedly dedicated to make him fail and suffer.

Setting:

Futuristic Earth with magitech, with the usual dungeon fissures and monsters, but without any of the tired-old guild politics or LitRPG elements. After the usual grand dungeon break, called the Great War, a portion of the planet got devastated and now there are areas full of monsters, and the surviving humanity got militarized, with a culture much more focused on individual strength and fighting existential threats, though the peace that followed did cause some of the old rivalries between nations to flare up again. The appearance of magic and new exotic materials also super-charged scientific development, and Korea especially lucked out, with their fissures leading to resource-rich dimensions, which made them into the new Saudi Arabia, except they pumped all the money they got into their military.

Characters:

We have our core cast of five, plus a very extensive side cast, and while the former are extremely well-developed, the same doesn't necessarily apply to the latter, and a lot of them are left hanging.

The main characters are Yu Jitae, and the four dragon hatchlings, each named after a season.

The MC is a cold, brutal, endlessly calculating monster broken by countless years of failed regressions, now trying his best to act normal and serve as the guardian of the four young dragons. Over the span of the story, he slowly regains his emotions, but it comes with a crushing sense of guilt about what he had done to the countless people in general and the four hatchlings in particular during his previous regressions.

Bom, the green dragon, is a normally phlegmatic girl who rapidly develops a crush on the MC, and tries to "make him human again" by constantly interacting with him and teasing him. However, as a green dragon, she could see glimpses of the future, which at first causes her to be extremely bold despite the MC's disposition, and then later makes her incredibly insecure.

Kaeul, the gold dragon, is an innocent, cheerful girl with a somewhat weak mentality. She can absorb other people's emotions, and her lack of control over this ability, combined with her race's instinctual need for adoration and modern Earth's unusually advanced communications- and media-landscape, had caused her to absorb too much of the hate directed at her in past iteration. As such, the MC acts as a guardian for her, letting her perform in front of crowds and moderating the feedback she gets while also slowly trying to help her discover what she really wants to do with her life.

Yeorum, the red dragon, is an aggressive, foul mouthed punk, who is also considered to be an angel by red dragon standards. Due to her circumstances, she needs to get as strong as possible as fast as possible, and after initially butting heads, she develops and profound trust and respect for the MC as her teacher, while at the same time remaining the most brash of the girls, unafraid to call him out whenever he does something s*upid or self-destructive.

Gyeoul, the blue dragon, is a literal baby who's born a on Earth. She imprints on the MC, and considers him her father. Initially her role is all about being adorable, but over time, she develops a few quirks herself, such as a fascination with earning money. However, at the end of the day, the MC is the center of their world, and she's about as important in making him more human as Bom.

Writing:

This is mainly a slice-of-life story, with occasional spikes of combat, gore, and psychological explorations of trauma and other heavy subjects. Tonally, it's about 60% lighthearted, 20% action, and 20% melancholic/depressive scenes. Since the MC is really OP, there's very little tension in his fight scenes until the very end, while the action scenes with the girls are a bit more tense.

Structurally, the main bulk of the story is slice-of-life, with a matryoshka-style nested design. We have the overarching, big plots that bleed into multiple arcs, then we have the big arcs (such as the early tournament arc), and within those, we have mini-arcs dedicated to individual girls and their misadventures or interactions with the MC.

Overall:

This is an amazing read, with a few caveats.

Since it's mostly a slice-of-life story, the pacing can get a bit meandering at times, especially in the second half of the story. Side characters are also treated rather haphazardly, and there are a whole bunch of them whose arcs never really get concluded due to the timey-wimey nature of the plot. Last, but not least, the slow-burn romance of the story is just weird. It starts out iffy due to the age-difference and their weird mentalities of the characters involved, then it gets a bit more interesting, then it gets re-contextualized into something even more iffy, then that gets re-re-contextualized into outright insanity, but then by the ending, it somehow ends up re-re-re-contextualized into something actually sweet. It's a roller-coaster-ride, for sure, and definitely unique, though not necessarily up to everyone's alley.

However, none of that can really mar the overall quality of the work. It has a strong prose, genuine character-development, psychological drama, lovely character-interactions and character-based comedy, tension, joy, despair, and all the other colors of the emotional spectrum, and a practically air-tight main plot that builds up to the big twists at the end from practically page one. It's great, and I would easily put it in my top ten fiction novels I've ever read.

So long as you aren't intimidated by the sheer length of the series and enjoy lighthearted (if occasionally slow) slice-of-life, I can whole-heartedly recommend this series. Just remember: this series gets really heavy and dark at times, especially in the final stretch, so read and prepare accordingly. <<less

I waited over a year for this novel to finish translating, and it was worth it. It is a true masterpiece. I really like what it does with the regressor archetype. The majority of Korean regressor novels don't focus on the psychological impact regression should have on a person, especially if they do it multiple times (luckily the main characters in those novels only have to regress once). Yu Jitae reminds me a lot of Yu Jonghyuk from ORV, and honestly that's a great thing since ORV was also a... more>> great work. The difference is that ORV spent much more time dealing with Kim Dokja instead of Yoo Jonghyuk since Dokja is the principal main character and Jonghyuk is not. Kidnapped Dragons can focus all of its attention on Jitae and his growth and interactions with the dragons.

This novel is different from most other fantasy Korean novels in that it is mostly character driven, rather than plot driven. In other novels, the main characters grow stronger and do the things they do to fulfill a goal, usually revenge, saving the world, or surviving. Things happen because of the outer forces in the world. The MC goes to war since another country invaded, a dungeon break occurs which forces the MC to go somewhere, a secret organization plots against the MC, etc... In KD, events in the story happen due to the interactions between characters, rather than the influence of outside forces.

This is a pretty good solution to the superman problem that a lot of OP MC novels encounter. I mean, if your main character is so strong that nobody can pose a challenge to him, then there is no tension or stakes. This is a boring story. One of my favorite ways to solve this problem is to make the MC extraordinarily more powerful than his peers, but is forced into constantly taking fights above his weight class and therefore still struggles. The Second Coming of Gluttony does this, and it's my personal favorite novel. Another solution is to simply make the novel not primarily about fighting. No matter how powerful Jitae is, his strength will not fix his interpersonal issues and broken mentality. He may be able to slay dragons, but he's incapable of comforting a crying child.

The baby dragons were all very excellent and diverse. They were cute, lovable, finnicky, picky, difficult, rebellious, and very, very charming. They were written like actual children and teenagers. They had problems that Yu Jitae had to navigate, which was very interesting to read about. Jitae plays a different role for each of them, which causes him to grow and redevelop his emotions.

I must commend the translators. They have done a masterful job translating the prose into English. It flows well and is amazingly emotional when it needs to be. I teared up at several points in this novel. Overall, I'd say this is one of the best web novels of all time. Truly, one of the greats. <<less

This is one of the best novels I've ever read. It has the perfect balance of action, slice of life, humor, romance, and world building. Not only that, but the characters felt real, all of them. They were so realistic that at times they felt more real than myself!

Not only is the novel extremely written, but it is also extremely well translated by RainTL.

Do yourselves a favor and read this novel. It's a gem.
