The author probably isn't going to make a huge deal out of this but doesn't mean me as the reader isn't.

@oola

Unfortunately, your quality as a human is horrible. Not perfect, ok, understandable, that's fine, she takes criticisms. DON'T FRICKIN TALK SH*T ABOUT THE AUTHOR! This is a one man translation team, she translating this by herself! Punctuation errors is inevitable, she edits it herself and she might accidentally overlook some mistakes. Her readers sometimes offer their constructive criticisms which she would also gladly take. One has to wonder if you... more>> know what respect is and appreciating someones hard-work is. LET ME ANSWER YOU, SHE IS SUPER FLUENT IN ENGLISH but is not extremely fluent in Chinese (Chinese is her second language). Hence she does rely on external support such as translators and her friends that know Chinese. The error you just mentioned, the author has already fixed it to its correct meaning.

If you think her quality of writing is written by someone who doesn't know English, then you might as well want to get your English skills checked also. Even with the occasional mistakes, you can obviously see that the reader knows frickin English. Punctuation error does not equate to not knowing english, dumbass. <<less

The plot is full and flourishing, side characters are likable and interesting with the additional perk that many of the cast our mythical creatures, and I have to especially complement the action scenes. Fights with giant beasts, bones that can be used to summon them back under control. It's fun and exciting. Characters died, lands and the world in peril, all while the MC -thrown into this situation- struggles with the connection between the fantasy and real world from which he came, and his real identity.

As for the MC, he's... more>> got a logical head on his shoulders, coming up with solutions despite not being that (physically and magically) powerful during the first portion of the story.

What I find most bogging is, sadly, the romantic relationships. It's not that the relationships are non-con or overly dramatic, but, well, annoying and tacky.

At first I adored the interactions MC and ML. ML was small and cute, a sulky, pretentious, little brat monster, endearing nonetheless. In any case, the MC had no choice but to put up with him in order to use the ML's powers.

But... wouldn't you know it, as soon as the little ML can transform into an adult shape later in the story, he wants to top the MC, for the MC to become 'his female beast', frequently brings up children with him (physically impossible), and all he wants to do from then on is get into the MC's pants whenever possible. And this persists for, at the least, up to the chapters I'd read. The ML transformed from a selfish child into a man-child. On the other hand, the MC is smart and clever, just the likable sort and frankly knows what he's doing way better than the ML, but EVERY single time he wants to take a risk or DO anything, you better believe the ML gets in his way. It leads into a repetitious plot where you know they two will argue before ML grudgingly agrees, all the while asking for more s*x. Thus, the MC is doomed to reason with this puerile man, often agreeing so that he can get the ML to do something he wants.

So do I like the story, do I like the MC, and the action? Yes. But intermittent between everything good is this constant interaction between the ML and MC that makes me cringe. The one saving point of this is that the ML's obsession is largely based on the thought that the MC will die before him (human v. immortal), but while this is a point of angst, the theme (up to the point I've read) was largely dismissed by the MC, who doesn't seem to be wanting to live forever to be with ML, thus angering the ML repeatedly.

Along with this, every other beast/human contract pair seem to have to be in come kind of romance, catering to the fans who want every character to be in a relationship at all times.

Despite the ups and downs, for how much I like the MC's straightforward attitude and rational thinking as well as the world around them, I will read until the end and see how things wrap up (albeit with the translator so I don't have to sludge through MTL). <<less

Translation: 7/10. Pretty good & love the translator's detailed footnotes.

I also love the translator's comments at the end of every chapter - I can tell they really enjoy this story & in turn makes the reader excited for it as well. I just binged read all the available chapters & it looks like updates can be sporadic at times, but hey, people got lives & we are still in the middle of a global pandemic.

Story: The set up for the other world that MC gets transported... more>> to is very well done. The author creates a world that is believable & cohesive. I haven't read other xianxia novels involving spiritual beasts before, so it was exciting & new for me. So far, I am mostly enjoying the MC, ML & side characters.

Spoiler

Characters: I do quite like the MC, Jiang Chaoge. We're initially introduced to a Jiang Chaoge who is kinda a sleazy thug. Once he's transported to the other world he is able to use his street smarts to survive. Of course, every hero has some tragic past & MC is no exception. I appreciate how his tragic past isn't stuffed in our faces though. I never felt like I was forced to sympathize with him & he doesn't wallow in his misery either. He knows he was dealt a shitty hand from birth & rolls with it.

In fact, it turns out he's not really that shitty of a person & at least knows loyalty & comradery. However, he is essentially a survivor at heart & is constantly assessing his circumstances in order to survive & return to his original world. While I believe he genuinely cares for & admires his new allies, he is also very pragmatic & understands how to maximize his allies' skills/assets in order to increase his chance of survival & reach his goal.

ML Zhi Xuan is cute in a spoiled brat who doesn't know much about the human world kind of way. He can be extremely unreasonable & arrogant, but I don't feel he ever truly steps out of line & we can slowly see his affection for Jiang Chaoge grow. He does not even recognize the feelings he has for Jiang Chaoge. As a divine beast who was dormant for like 10, 000 years, I can understand his strange & unpredictable behaviors & mood. He literally knows nothing about humans or this world he woke up to & actually think he's coping quite well, thanks to Jiang Chaoge.

I'm interested to see the progression of the relationship between Jiang Chaoge & Zhi Xuan. At this point in the story Zhi Xuan is confused about his growing feelings for his human servant & Jiang Chaoge is uncomfortable being on the receiving end. While he finds it comforting that someone in this world is willing to stay with him & protect him, he does not harbor any romantic feelings for Zhi Xuan, yet. Just a lot of awkwardness when Zhi Xuan invades his personal space in his beautiful adult form.

Side Rant: I removed half a star each for these two themes that I notice in a lot of xianxia & danmei novels that I really detest:

    1. lusting after/sexualizing minors - most of the time when Zhi Xuan is in child form the physical interactions between him & Jiang Chaoge are innocent enough. The latter really treats the former as a child when he's in that form. However, as Zhi Xuan's affection for Jiang Chaoge start to grow, he starts to frequently ponder about what intimate actions with Jiang Chaoge would be like. It makes me feel very grossed out that he does this in his child form (yes, I know he's millions of years old, but the imagery of a 3 year old child thinking about ways to be intimate with an adult is still nasty). There was also a scene when they are travelling & Jiang Chaoge finds Zhi Xuan drunk in the carriage. "The appearance of a fourteen or fifteen year old youth actually had a type of bewitching beauty." Ok, you can argue that this was harmless. A 25 year old man is just making a comment that this teen before his eyes is beautiful - I can let this one slide... But how about this scene? When Zui You is chatting with Zhi Xuan, both in their child forms, & Jiang Chaoge thinks, "Even the form of a 3 year old child, Zui You could give actually still give off that air of seductiveness." Yuuuck! 3 year olds do not & should not be giving off an air of seductiveness! It's already established that Zui You is alluring & seductive in his adult form. We believe you! It was so unnecessary to include that part about his seductiveness in child form.
    1. Non-consent - I was really hoping this story would not include any elements of non-consent, but I would eventually be disappointed. Zhi Xuan has forcefully kissed Jiang Chaoge like 3 times now. It's very clear Jiang Chaoge does not consent to the kisses & does not enjoy it at all. The last kiss in ch 45 he just sort of puts up with it & lets Zhi Xuan "experience" it. Sigh... forcing kisses should not be normalized & is not romantic at all. I know this story is alluding to their eventual mating to form a contract so that Jiang Chaoge can level up. I REALLY hope that it is consensual.

A hidden gem ? hopefully it's still good til d end. However, There were (several) scenes that lacked development, it felt like it happened all of the sudden ... more>>
Spoiler

MC suddenly responded to ML's feeling. The intimacy is well developed at the beginning (how the ML used his life years and d MC was touched. But all of the sudden when around c72 MC suddenly responded back to ML. It felt like he was swayed (bcoz of the circumstances and due accumulation of ML's tenderness to him). The author should portray a scene that would greatly move MC's feelings. Etc

[collapse]

MC is transported to another world. ML in his child form due to insufficient level of MC. ML is really like a spoiled child though he should be an ancient beast. Sometimes it's annoying but most of the time it's heartwarming.

I feel bad for both of them due to their insufficient level/power... a really big blow to their pride being a burden (til around half of the story) <<less

I LIKE THIS. remind me of good olde isekai like Fushigi Yuugi/Kanata Kara but BL (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

the plot is engaging, with quite good pace and tensions. and characters are also fun and well-thought, including the supporting ones. how the spirit weapons cherish only their contracted humans really hits my soft spot.

the pair tho..... boy, gong is really troublesome and difficult, proud and arrogant. welp, he is not human and uber strong. but how he only cares for his 'servant' is really making me dying. send halp. he's... more>> killing me with that gap moe.

i like MC/shou. obviously he is not kind and naive person, but he is good enough to repay kindness with kindness. also he's quick-thinking (more like cunning) and realistic, able to make decisions precisely according to situations. he's quite pitiful tbh, with all the suffering from childhood and after he became rich, he was thrown to another world. making all wealth he accumulated gone. but he is strong and never gives up. another good point.

I’m just so captivated by the Chinese mythological elements. It’s a transmigration into a fantasy world.

This is totally different from Shui Qian Cheng‘s other works that often depicts unhealthy relationships and r*** like Intoxication and In Love with an Idiot. I love them but they were super depressing to read. Another favorite works of mine is My Little Poplar.

I love how the translator provided pics of the mythological beasts featured in the novel and little snippets from the manhua WHICH I DIDN’T... more>> KNOW ABOUT! *Squeals* The manhua illustrations is so beautiful and the mythological beasts are so beautifully drawn. It’s so cute ^3^

It so meng whenever a little kid tries to act all high and mighty and the same goes for the tiny ML. I love how the manhua emulates the comical disparity between the ML’s small stature and his haughtyness and his ego.

The MC is a businessmen through and through. Although he’s in a different world, he applies the same tactics to coax people into buying (even if his methodology is a little immoral) <<less

This is such a good story. Why isnt anyone making a review of this?

Anyway, it is well written and well wrapped at the end. All characters were properly fleshed out. I love how the love story between the MC (uke) and ML (seme) was gradual but well thought out. It wasnt love at first sight but you can feel the fire between them.

I love the ending, how all the side characters were given the happy ending they deserve.

Congrats to the author and thank you dear translator for your hard work.... more>> Keep it up. It is such a nice story and deserved to be translated completely. Dont give up. We appreciate your efforts!

I've read the novel complete long ago, it's a very good novel in my opinion. At first reader might find the ML annoying (even still now) because of his childish behavior but overtime I found ML behaviour as endearing. It balance well with the MC personality. Both MC and ML like each other deeply with a unique bond so it's kind of rare to see this kind of relationship, since most novel I read the couple is attracted based on their looks or cliche circumstances.

The MC and ML don't like... more>> each other at first but the ML is the first one to gradually fall for the MC first but don't realize the feeling. Overtime at the journey MC and ML bonds gradually deepend. <<less

I'm a sucker for human-nonhuman relationship so this was an auto-read for me but I'm sooo glad I've read it! Although I read with the translator I had to MTL until the chapter they finally "mated" bc it's that addictive.

I love cultivation stories, this is an excellent read on that part. MC is very smart, kinda serious but he's grown up so it's normal, he's also fun and makes you awe him with his ideas. ML's cute with child form and hot with his adult body, he's an annoying but... more>> cute comedy for me. He acts according to his instincts most of the time, as he is an godly (animal/creature).

Action scenes are written well, lots of fights, cultivation, and magic in this novel, my cup of tea! Read it if you like these like me, you won't regret!

My favorite part: The translator to add pictures from the manhua so we can imagine well. (Although your grammar on some parts could be better.) <<less

Soo good! 4.7 stars (I'm a little sour because my favorite side characters didn't get extras)

Also don't know if this counts as plot hole or oversight but I felt the author could have wrapped up the problem of all the other transmigrators

Spoiler

wanting to go home. I know the MC only had a personal relationship with Old Meng and wasn't the type to do good deeds towards people he barely knew, and lots of other stuff happening at the end, but still, I felt kind of bad that they're all now stuck in the world of Tianling.

[collapse]

Plot+setting: Xianxia with transmigration theme. The protagonist Jiang Chao Ge gets transported into a world of magic where everyone uses spirit beasts, and he accidentally gets his hands on a very high level, mysterious spirit weapon. This starts an action-packed adventure where he has to cultivate to use his newfound weapon and appease the mythical and powerful spirit beast Zhixuan, all while making friends and ennemies at every step and use his wits to survive the life-and-death struggle for a mysterious and all-powerful artifact that everyone wants to get their hands on. It's a race against time as more and more of the 12 ancient spirit beasts awaken, and the world is in danger of collapsing under the dominance of the spirit beasts and the people who seek to control them.

Also his spirit weapon keeps berating him for his low cultivation level and acts like a little brat all the time.

Characters:

Jiang Chao Ge (MC) - a ruthless young business man from the modern world who has to learn to survive and level up in a world of cultivation where mythological creatures are real. He's cool, level-headed, not afraid to use somewhat underhanded tactics and loves money. He also considers himself straight, has s*xual (but not really romantical since he's a loner) experience and would never in a million years consider bottoming for a man (let's see how long that lasts lol).

Zhixuan (ML) - a mysterious divine spirit beast controlled by Jiang Chao Ge. He's bound to the MC and at first resents the MC for being so weak that he can't bring forth Zhixuan's true body - instead the ML takes the form of a cute toddler, which the proud and ancient beast considers demeaning.

Spoiler

He's addicted to alcohol and his mindset is very much that of a beast rather than a human. He's not the brightest, but later becomes very devoted to the MC once he falls in love. Also a virg*n.

[collapse]

Yu Renshu - the proud and honorable third prince of the magical kingdom.

Spoiler

He's the closest the story gets to a SML, although he's not really a love rival in the same vein as in the author's 188 novels.

[collapse]
He's bonded with and controls a high level spirit beast called Tianrong who follows him through thick and thin.

Spoiler

I shipped YRS and TR very hard in the beginning, but I think their ending (kind of open but hopeful) was realistic.

[collapse]

Other character (hiding under spoiler tags) :

Spoiler

Long Xiang and his spirit beast Zhiyou, an extremely charming and seductive nine-tailed fox who constantly flirts with his teenage master and also good at giving out s*x tips to a certain virg*n in desperate need of figuring out how s*x with humans work;-) My favorite side couple that sadly were kind of side-tracked because the list of characters grew too big.

Ruan Qiansu - female cultivator who's smart and a very capable fighter. Loved her and nice when the author includes a cool female character. Her later bonding was nice too, wish it had been explored in the extras.

Yunxi - a somewhat autistic but brilliant spirit doctor who can heal and make spirit weapons. I kind of shipped him with his spirit beast, but again, the ending was probably more realistic.

Sisi - a scatterbrain, overly energetic but brave and cute scout. I loved his friendship with his spirit weapon, and although I wish they had had more 'screentime', they were still lovely.

Yu Renkui - I was a bit meh about him. He didn't really feel that important and I wished the author had focused more on the MC's friends than this guy and his sort of toxic relationship drama. But I guess SQC loves her dogblood romances and felt the need to insert one. Forshadowing the relationship in later novel Wu Chang Jie, which was much more interesting.

[collapse]

The 12 spirit beasts - not super spoilery:

Spoiler

Zhixuan - Qilin

Yinchuan - Bai Ze/White Marsh

Ren Wang - White Tiger

Zhuoyan - Zhuolong/Zhuyin

Zhongming - Black Tortoise

Hongyuan - Vermillion Bird

Chaofei - Bifang

Fennian - Taotie

Youshi - Taowu

Xiaoxue - Hundun

Suhan - Qiongqi

Xianyun - Qin Long/Azure Dragon

[collapse]

My thoughts:

Really fun and entertaining read. Fast-paced and with a host of interesting and fun characters. The dynamic between MC and ML is both cute, funny and with good step-by-step romantic development. The ML falls first and is very cute if you like bratty and kind of immature gongs paired with more mature and smart shous. The ML's beast-like nature shines through in his behavior, and that's probably not something everyone will enjoy. He talks a lot about having the MC 'give birth to his cub' (he doesn't really get the difference between males and females among humans) and how the MC is his 'female beast' (one TL uses the term 'mate', but my dictionary and the other, slightly better TL says the term is female beast. Idk what's most correct.)

There's no smut in this novel, unlike most SQC novels. Which is a bit of a shame, but it's not completely fade-to-black, just not explicit.

The side characters are cool, I liked how all of them had distinct personalities, even all the different spirit beasts. Lots of side couples to root for (but not everyone gets together).

Angst: good amount of heartbreak and angsty scenes, but overall the novel was quite fluffy compared to SQC's other works and the main couple were extremely wholesome - probably the most wholesome I've read in a SQC novel. They were still very entertaining though because of the ML's antics.

There were some things regarding the background for the big final conflict that I didn't completely get and felt could have been fleshed out more, but it might be because of the heavy inspiration from Chinese mythology that I'm just no familiar with.

Overall I think it's one of 's best the author's best novels in terms of plot and world building. The plot here is better than in SQC's other xianxia, Wu Chang Jie - which I also like a lot, but WCJ felt more disjointed with a rushed final conflict and an underwhelming main villain. In Jiang Chao Ge and the Spirit Weapon the plot was carried out in a interesting and ultimately fairly satisfying way. No disappointing villain (I haven't been keen on the villain reveal in other plot-heavy SQC novels like Dragon Blood, WCJ or Blazing Armour - and in all 3 novels it felt like the story just fizzled out a bit towards the end) and the conclusion made sense and tied up most (but maybe not all) loose ends.

I also think it holds up better than Dragon Blood - which I also enjoyed, but where the side characters weren't as memorable and the plot resolution was kind of underwhelming.

Seems like this novel is written right before Additional Inheritance and Years of Intoxication, and in my impression it feels a bit more 'mature' like those two novels compared to SQC slightly more wacky/dogblood drama earlier novels.

Would recommend it to people who like a well-written and fast-paced xianxia, cool and clever MC with bratty ML, devoted lovers, and/or SQC as an author.

The mythology parts were cool, but a bit confusing for someone who doesn't know Chinese myths. I suggest looking up a lot of the stuff. The translator's notes in chapter 12 were helpful, but not quite enough. <<less

One word selfish!

the ML is not so bad but the MC selfishness is so abundant rotten to the bone. Once read you’ll understand why, but this guy only truly cares about him self even when his friends needed him he just finds a way manipulate them. What he says makes sense, but as a reader you can tell it’s manipulative. Makes me sick 🤢

So I DNF I did not bother searching for the full novel

I like this novel, the interaction of MC and ML is quite cute, but it might change given the flow of story.

Its about a Transmigrator picking a treasure and faced with pursuit as soon as he crossed over, he embark on adventure with the goal of saving the world (where he crossed over) and to return to his own world, and gaining Brothers and sister along the way.

Based on mahwa he doesn't have a good childhood explaining his character. Decisive, rational and black bellied.

As for the ML my impression is... more>> like a white sheet of paper it'll show whatever you paint on it, he's clear on what he likes and dislikes, so far he only shows to have one track of mind, basically a child like character, (tsundere I guess) its because of this that he's extremely possessive. <<less

So far, the story has been riveting! The main character has very little spiritual power at first, but he never seems weak because his intelligence and adaptability are superb. He's realistically morally ambiguous but remains an sympathetic character. The ML can be whiny and needy at first, but he grows more empathetic to the MC with time and his clinginess becomes adorable.

The other characters are also interesting and well-developed, so the plot doesn't need to depend on romantic developments to keep the reader hooked. The translation is well done, and... more>> makes the story all the more addictive! <<less
