Hmm, well it was something. This is a bit of slice-of-life, a bit of action, a bit of thriller, and a bit of romance. Really a jack-of-all-trades but master of none.

It starts off with the rebirth of MC, who quickly decides to take his life down a different road. Along the way, he becomes a celebrity and inadvertently gains the affections of ML, whom he reluctantly accepts as partner after life threatening circumstances... although MC himself doesn't believe that it was truly life threatening (it was, he sliced up a... more>> major artery in his arm).

Once MC and ML get together, the novel starts to spiral out of control. It becomes conspiracy after conspiracy where MC's life is threatened. Where are the authorities? Nowhere to be found apparently, as MC and ML have to take things into their own hands in order to resolve the mysteries. Obviously, since MC has memories of his past life, this makes him a master businessman, economist, actor, investigator, hacker, and martial artist. As to how one gains all of these skills in a mere 9 years? Well, let's not sweat the small stuff.

Spoiler

Turns out MC is the love child of the Sheng and Xia families and is not his father's child. His biological father was mu*dered as he was too ambitious, and MC was sequestered in his previous life due to the influence of the Sheng family. Because he met ML in this life, they were unable to take him out so they manufactured some crazy outrageous circumstances including:

Putting a finger and some eyes in the bag of his makeup artist.

Trying to kill him in a car crash.

Finding people to beat him up with knives and rods.

Blowing up an airplane.

[collapse]

The ending was fairly rushed and I really don't know what to make of this novel. It's the type that leaves one feeling confused. <<less

This one is very well-written. MC's character is special, multi-dimensional and well-described. ML is likable. Rebirth theme is nice, moreover there's no annoying unrealistic cheats like space. Love story is especially sweet.

There was a bit of revenge and face-slapping. And there were elements of detective close to the end. I was not very pleased with it, but except from it everything was top notch for me.

I'm dropping this one now because-

1) author points out how OP the MC is in, literally, almost every single paragraph but it's almost always about how he's so handsome and gentlemanly. Way too repetitive, it's too boring.

2) the MC is arrogant, looking down on literally every character and especially taking ML's doting as his due, and for granted, even before he knows this bigshot is into him romantically

3) the MC is too fake, fake, fake. He's never genuine with anyone and the author loves to praise this about him all... more>> day long, but I think it's irritating.

So yep, as you see, the problem is the MC. The ML and side characters are pretty stereotypical but inoffensive.

The novel is not terrible, it's just nothing special with an annoying MC. However, if those traits don't annoy you and you don't get bored easily, you might really like this one <<less

This novel is good and relaxing to read.

The story is about Lu Chengyu who came back from 9 years and his life after going back to the past. Lu Chengyu's life is full of mystery and here we will discover why his life is full of bad luck in the past. And to Yan Mu, I can only say that he is the starting point of Lu Chengyu's luck.

Lu Chengyu, after a life of misfortune after misfortune, dies and is reborn as himself 9 years earlier, before fate turned against him. His accidental meeting with Yan Mu sets off a chain of events that seems to take his new life on a completely different path from his previous one.

Pros: Most realistic and consistent characterization of romance between 2 MC's that I've come across in a very long time (after 81 chapters, what the supporting characters say/imply about their romance perfectly aligns with how the author displays their relationship),... more>> solid and not draggy plot

Cons: A limited/subtle plot emotionally (for those who like drama), a somewhat self-centered narration style

I debated for a while (several seconds) on whether to give this novel 4 or 5 stars as I've been trying to be a bit more discerning with my ratings lately, but this is still a very satisfying story. In the end, I settled on 4 stars because, even though it doesn't have that "oomph" factor that will make me remember this novel years from now (maybe months), a large part of this novel's charm lies in its mellowness. Like sipping a glass of wine and watching the scenery, this novel doesn't arouse any strong emotions outside of a languid contentedness, hence why my final verdict is simply that this is a satisfying story.

The MC is a fairly well rounded character; aside from his extreme over-politeness (which I partially attribute to cultural differences), I find myself resonating with his overall laissez-faire attitude towards life and others' attitudes. Like the main character of Beloved Marriage in High Society, his goal after rebirth isn't revenge, but to live well. Unlike BMHS, however, this novel maintains a sort of detached interest from start to finish; we get the feeling that all of these events are happening around the MC rather than to him. Even the romance carries that same sort of slow enjoyment; there's very little passion and almost no drama, it's just 2 people who seamlessly fit together in each others' lives.

The only somewhat complaint I have about this novel would be with its narration style. While this novel is written in 3rd person, its actually very centered around the MC- so centered, in fact, that there would be very little difference if this novel were written from a 1st person perspective. The result of this is both positive and negative. The positive is that, since we're so tied to the MC, we get to progress through the story less like an omnipotent bystander, and more like someone accompanying the MC. We're not privy to details the MC doesn't know so we experience the events along with him. The negative results of this narration style, however, is that we have a very biased portrayal of characters. The people the MC cares about are 3-dimensional and multi-faceted. For the people the MC doesn't care about, we're lucky to even know their names, even if they play a pivotal role in the novel's actual setup/progression
Spoiler

ex: that Sheng guy and his family were basically the main villains. Yet, we only know his name and there's no other info to his character other than the fact that he's the bad guy. We don't even know any of the other family members.

[collapse]

Overll I give this novel 5 stars because I think it maintained a solid story with consistent characterization with an enjoyable tone. The narration style, though it has its drawbacks, is very natural and gives the novel its own uniqueness. <<less

This novel throws those BL cliche to the bin for me.

Weak shou = Nope

Dependent shou = Nope Nope

... more>> Clingy short cute shou = Hell NO

Shou that doesnt use his brain or logic and know nothing of self defence = You wont find those trait here

So, yeah, unless you look for the clique types of shou character, I suggest you need not read this novel. You wont find those normal traits you find in almost all cn wn bl.

Also not much of romance going on, we'll see that almost to the end. I like that tho. How it's not love at first sight, or I love how he/she is unique. New for me. Their love happens slow and build strongly.

Yes, MC is reincarnated, but even when he was in his original life time, he wasnt that weak minded. He's still quiet calm person. And now after he can life his life again, he will do what I will do. Taking advantage of future knowledge to gain momentum for ourself. MC will only 'kill' others when that person is already a jerk and hurt him. An eye for an eye type he is ^^

I resisted the urge to write for gong, but I'll say gong is not your over dominant, the most powerful, cold quiet type. And I think he got bend instead LOL <<less

I've tried reading this novel twice: first time MTL, second time translations. Both times I gave up halfway though.

Why?

Because this novel is so, so, so BORING!

... more>> This novel is just MC living his everyday boring life. No goal (however small) in sight. His interactions with ML are also not fun as they heve zero chemistry: MC theats him as a good brother and keeps appropriate distance (MC is big on being appropriate) and ML is your typical "cold unsmiling boss".

Credit goes where Credit is due: ML has a crush on MC and it leads to some cute/funny scenes when he tryes awkwardly show affection. But these scenes are very rare I between.

MC is someone who sounds interesting on paper: he has a bearing of a very serious and professional young man, mr. Perfect, ohter familys child. Someone who is used as an example for others. He has a weibo account where he encorages others to study. But in reality he is very lazy and messy: he doesn't throu out garage, doesn't like to cook, has poisonous mouth and his fave pastime is arguing with people on the Internet (The more people he left angry the happier he is), he even has a side account for this purpose. Why I called him boring? Because All these things are only mentioned and never shown. And mentioned very rare. What we, the audience see is that mr-perfect-who-never-does-wrong.

Even more boring is ML. Only MC brings an emotional reaction from him. Other than that - he might as well be a robot. It 8s not even coldness, it is utter in difference for everything that is not MC.

Why he fell in love with MC? Who knows, he just did, no explanation or devwlopment were provided.

Btw, for someone with such high EQ, MC took embarrassingly long to notice his feelings (The author tried very hard to prolong this novel).

There are some antagonists and obstacles for MC and ML, but if they don't care then why should I? Same goes fo MCs "misterious origin".

One thing I really appreciated is what the author did with that classmate who had feelings to MC:

Spoiler

The one who ruined MCs life in the previous timeline was his admirer turned boyfriend with him being none the wiser. This time that admirer failed to scheme in secret so classmate watched with growing disappointment what he was doing. In the end he broke ties withevery one and left the city.

[collapse]

Also this classmate is the most complex and as a result interesting Character in the whole novel.

In conclusion: no plot, no development, no chemistry between leads. Not recommended. <<less

Everyone who finished this novel are satisfied with it for a reason. It's a nice and energetic rather short read, which gives you soft and eloquent feeling.

It may not be an outstanding novel and it uses a load of widely-used tropes, but it still manages to stand out with enough dose of good plot and good characters. It moves fast since it doesn't dwell on too much depth of details, yet still menages to convey several pretty positive messages.

For the plot: It's a road to success of Mr. Capable. Sure... more>> enought MC is OP, but to me it didn't make things tacky. Although it involves the most elite circle and some striffles, which brings joy to those who enjoy some dog blood drama and some face-slapping factor, but also has enough sweet time, nice development of feelings.

For the characters: Interesting MC with enough rough means when it comes to business, but a respectful bun when it comes to relationships, this is a really great part of his character and novel in general. ML is a great example of a loving, caring and respectful partner. There's also a great deal of secondary characters who are nice.

p.s.: very easy to mtl <<less

It is a good novel. A good rebirth story. A good BL.

From the start, I observed that we as readers are not much involve from the feelings of Lu Chenyu (The MC). Most of his feelings were expressed through his smile, sneer, frown. There are not much of inner monologue, which is truly in my taste. Because, because of that we can see more, um, we can feel more that MC is a mature, intelligent and elegant man.

Maybe that's the reason why some of the reader's feel that MC and... more>> ML didn't truly love each other. Sometimes I feel that. But I know they deeply love each other, through their words and actions in the story.

We are like the other people, the netizens in the story to their love story. We are outsiders. *Laughs* When you think that way, even if they are characters in a novel, they do not allow a third party.

And also if you think about their relationship logically, you will thin that they really have a mature relationship. Because they are two men with successful careers, lots of money, experienced lots of hardship, and both have their values. For me, it means they are complete by themselves. They are two different complete individuals who are both have the power over their choices and they choose to be together and everyday, every minute, every seconds they take up the responsibilities for each other, and during those times feelings grow, grow and grow until they are inseparable. Until they are willing their already completed self to each other.

That's the meaning of love they gave me. And also not only that, they also told me about love to our world and to our fellow mankind. How relationship fades, and how we grow from every relationship we have with our family, friends, relatives and others.

That is longer than I thought it would be, it seems I'm more energetic in writing reviews than writing essays I need for school. Bye for now, and hi to the next novel! <<less

T.T my review got eaten up. Let me make this short. As per usual, I read raws, not the translation.

I went in knowing this is a feel good (Shuang wen) OP MC novel and it is exactly what it claim on the summary on JJ.

It's a pleasurable short read but nothing fantastic due to a few factors:

    • the entire acting portion of the story really detracts from the novel. It's quite ridiculous and jarring from the rest of the story
    • social media comments as a result of the acting. Very redundant.
    • some characters (MC friends) disappear near the end
    • the extent of MC OPness. There are no rules to it and he have all sort of abilities as long as it solves the current issues he's facing. That's a big Nono even for the feel good genre!
These are the reasons why this is an average novel and not an extraordinary novel that I will reread again and again.

Also, the novel takes great inspiration from Korean Daily Drama tropes. There's nothing wrong with that but the ending really can be much better instead of ending with a whimper.

The best part of the novel is undoubtedly the ML. He's so awkwardly cute and there's such a gap moe between his appearance and behaviour. I adore him. Can we have more of such MLs (or MLs with a personality) rather than the usual cold, haughty, -I want to pai pai pai 5 times everynight- tyrant CEO?

5⭐ for this one!!! For the ending, plot and chara!! Find out who is the killer (will be revealed at last 10 chapters). The synopsis is misleading, since the MC didn't really avoid people who were close to him. The MC is calm and collected. He is also a calculating person, masked with a smile. However, he does not take advantage of people and not unreasonable. He even weighs the pros and cons being with the ML (mostly, he checks ML's feeling, not checking the ML's worth similar to a white lotus). MC is also stronger than ML, which is really good, different fr usual flow story. For the ML, he has a hard time expressing himself. He's really funny, and caring. He's not the usual overbearing president. Even though, he is really jealous (full of vinegar), he still considers the MC. Also, He really spends his precious time to take care of MC while working. Hats off to Yan Mu
Spoiler

he cooks for MC, wipes the body of MC, drives the MC to work/accompany the MC to shooting place. He could substitute MC mother

This one is the best slice of life I've read. ? There are twists and turns of the story (mc's killer). I really admire this author

Here goes nothing. I had tried to read this novel once before, however, couldn't get past the first 10 chapters. Much much later, encouraged by my favorite reviewers, I decided to give it one more try. But then again, it proved me wrong.

First things first, the plot really had a lot of potentials, but it was wasted, unfortunately, by MC's brainless OPness. I wish MC had at least some kind of supernatural system or golden finger or something to make his OPness more plausible in the story. I mean, he... more>> is a business genius, a better fighter than professional bodyguards, a hacker *rolleyes*, a movie emperor, a male god. And he wasn't able to be more successful than being a hotel manager in his past life after all these??? I wonder if the author was in college when she was writing this novel or how she could believe that someone could achieve this much in 9 years after graduating.

The only thing I was holding on to was how MC wasn't good at cooking, at least. That was my only silver lining. It was refreshing to find a shou in a danmei who wasn't good at cooking. BUT! Author! Why did you change your mind in the middle of the novel and decide to change MC's settings? After burning some barbeque just a few chapters earlier, he suddenly became good at cooking *wavehand*.

Another thing is how ML and MC's relationship starts. Our MC comes from a middle-class family, but he can so quickly act like he is friends with his boss, a president of an international corporation? And he doesn't think it is somewhat strange? (I find you strange, MC.)

And the social media parts were soo boring and soo dragging that I skipped all those parts, and it didn't affect the story's progression at all.

And that is all from me. If you like the novel, then enjoy your reading. If you don't like it, just drop it and save yourself more time to find something you genuinely enjoy. That was my only regret. I wasted 3 days of my life on this novel when I could have read something better. <<less

A sweet story (I've already read Very Happy by the same author, so I knew this would be good too). I lost a few braincells while trying to read the first two translated chapters as they're worse than the actual MTL, which is a first.

I was quite happy to see that the rest of the book was picked up by someone else. I've finally ended up MTLing the rest of the book once the TL ended, and I have to say the MTL was actually quite easy to follow. I would say that this story is good!! Office Romance, Boss-Assistant love. Many people are complaining that MC is too perfect and OP. I want to ask you all, if the sufferings are briefly explained in a line and happiness is explained in a paragraph, you people ignore the sufferings.

From what I see, MC is a smart person, but he suffered almost a decade of misfortune in his pervious life. People are honed by sufferings, don't you know that? And he was reborn, so he knows the future a bit,... more>> so he makes good decisions. Pitting those families, those plots are not deep, that's it. The story itself focuses more on MC's way of handling things and falling in love.

I don't think there is any strangeness in their love like other people commented above. It was rather a well developed relationship. MC is a smart fox, so he won't easily be moved. There is no much sweet words in their love, but everything is by action, there isn't even much 'i like you's, but their love is great.

The story overall maybe a bit over-powered, but it's enjoyable. It's story about not how much they struggled, rather how they solved the problems. And the story is written quite good. It's not deep into every matters involved in the story, more like showing us only what the author wants us to see.

ML is cute af. He loved MC so much, we can see from the start. His little actions and everything are cute. They have a very healthy relationship. They trust each other and accept each other.

MC is not dense like other stories. Since he is a smart person, he'll find that ML likes him, but MC won't be sure of his own feelings. This plot is realistic. When someone likes us, as long as you have some brain, you can easily see through them. MC is perfect example for this. And author really worked hard to balance the power between two leads. Both leads are powerful actually, ML is CEO, smart and ruthless, while MC is genius and flexible.

Their love is just wholesome.

"I only remember one thing that you are my greatest fortune."

it's a light read without much stress. <<less

a good novel. The story is good, the characters are good, and it's realistic enough, with just a small touch of fantasy (bad people actually get their dues, good guys win). I recommend. Also, I really like the ML and MC. MC is seemingly elegant, but also really petty. He's intelligent and not like those naive dumb MCs. ML isn't super possessive or crazy yandere. He's a properly sane man.

The only problem is the translation... I mean I understand that the 'translator' doesn't understand Chinese, nor does she speak fluent... more>> English... but still... it's really, really bad... no offence. Barely a step above MTL, hence why I'll be MTLing the rest. kudos. <<less

So far, very enjoyable read with great translator!

The MC is extremely competent and elegant (almost too OP) but it's hilarious that he has a secret side of pissing netizens off and roasting people online on his alts. (Logical for him to find a place to vent if he has to be courteous all the time.) For once, it's the MC, not the ML, who is worshiped as 'the male god' due to his perfect image. The author did a great job writing his internal thoughts and external actions to reflect... more>> such a generous and charming MC.

Spoiler

It makes sense that the MC's interpersonal skills/customer service ability is top notch because he worked at a hotel and as a manager in his previous life.

[collapse]

There isn't a lot of drama so far, the story has just started picking up pace. Romance is an awesome slow burn. The main characters first get to know each other and have mutual respect before making any moves. Very happy to see female characters not being villainized and no awful tropes like the MC's relatives wanting to screw him over now that he's an orphan etc.

4 stars for now because the story is still early. May upgrade to 5 later on~ <<less

A simple story of wisely using one's second chance at life. The romance is not too fast paced but we know the gong was already attracted to him early on. It wasn't too sweet but we see their sincerity with each other. I loved their friendship as much as I loved their romantic relationship.

I've actually picked and dropped this novel several times due to being dissuaded in the beginning by the confusing translation of the early chapters, although the translations became a bit better later on. I'd probably just give the translation a 3.5 out of 5. It's a light read and although some scenes are too absurd to my taste and I don't like how things become a foil to romance development, I just remind myself that it's just a novel. Still, the plot twist at the latter chapters of the story... more>> did give a nice surprise. <<less
