The villager who was so poor that he couldn’t afford a bride price, did not learn to do anything, and was idle, actually got a beautiful and rich wife from the city!

The beautiful and rich Bai (white) Fu (rich) Mei (beautiful), Zhao Lanxiang was reborn, and the first thing she did when she woke up was to find her husband in a hurry.

In their last life, they met each other in their later years, he had suffered through the ups and downs in life, and she was scarred. They warmed and healed each other in their remaining years.

In this life, she decided to give this man a good beginning, help him avoid the hidden arrows, and walk onto the bright road!

However… who could tell her why her steady, refined husband is actually such a cold, fierce, and th**ny bully as a young man?

The rough man impatiently pressed the Bai Fumei into the cornfield, patted her tender face, and said fiercely: “You know, you can’t run away if you mess with me again.”

Don't be fooled by the cute synopsis (I was). This is a story about enduring hardships, staying true to yourself, moving on, growing up, letting go, and giving up. I loved all of the characters here, but I especially love Granny, Teacher Gu, and

Jiang Jianjun. I am so hurt, he's not blameless but he also isn't the worst. I hope he has an alternate timeline somewhere where he's happy. Maybe I can write him a small fanfic 😂

This is such a heartfelt novel, I cried a lot of times. It's sweet and I learned a lot about China's history.

I will not review too much, the others already said what should be said. I do want a separate novel for their kids.

Thank you author and translator, amazing job

Don't want to spoil this for anyone so my cryptic review.

Happy tears. Read it fresh, without knowing too much. Then re-read to catch the fine points and clues to really appreciate the complete story. Love is not always early, capture if you can. Second chances are not worth it without others. If you don't cry at the end, you missed it.

Writer deserves high praise for completing the circles, connecting all the entangled lines. Thank you Translator, I would not have discovered this gem without you. Thank you, thank you.

This is a really good novel. The MC, ML and others are cute. It's so heartwarming to read this.

I laugh, angry, sad, and hungry through all the story. The MC is clever and sweet, she knows how to help the ML and when not to. But she's really so smooth, I admire her being active in the relationship.

The ML, he knows what and what not to do in their relationship and in his business. He strove hard to be raised in poverty and he's not stingy to ask help whether... more>> its his grandma, MC or his friends.

The ex husband, he's pitiful he doesn't know what love is, therefore he can't give it at her. Like others, too bad he's not the ML of this novel but I know he will change for the better.

The twist of this story made me cried, she help him and his family be better and he help her to find the happiness that she doesn't get. They are too sweet and devoted for each other. <<less

Fluffy and delicious steamed bun for the heart and soul. This story is a real gem, sweet with romance and not greasy with the misunderstandings and s*upid mistakes other romance stories like to use so much. Please read when not hungry.

So I am a s**ked for happy ending and I found this novel under the tag Heartwarming and man it really did warm my heart. I cried with the characters in their struggles and cheered for their happy ending. I know it sounds so silly to be involved with novel characters but both MC and ML are so beautifully written that I couldn't help feeling for them. I loved this book soo much. Its truly a heartwarming. Good job author and dear translators for picking this book otherwise I would... more>> have never known about this gem.

Dont think much and just pick it up to read. It would certainly not disappoint you. I like hard working lead characters and boy they both really did worked their ass out for their future together.

PS. If you want to read a similar type of book then check out Eyes of silver eyes of gold. It's an English novel which I have read nth number of times whenever I feel down. After that novel Bai fumei is 2nd in my list. <<less

This novel is too beautiful, it gave me a lot of joy and sadness in the various situations that the protagonists faced. The author knew how to guide us to those feelings, I love FL how he could get to ML and then ML clung to that. We see both of them grow in their projects, supporting each other in a very beautiful way. It is a must read for fans of romantic comedy, Slice of life and rebirth or second chances. Highly recommended.

I have read and reread this novel so many times over that I’ve lost count. Although the translations are MTL’d, the translator did a decent job in getting the gist of the story.

I love how the author ties up both lifetimes and certain scenes get me teary eyed every time.

The main leads are such couple goals and after reading this novel.. My expectations are going to be crazy high. How will I ever find someone who loves me as much as Songbai loves Lanxiang and vice versa.

This a great slice of life story. The FL and the ML are trying their best to live a good life during the hard times they are in. The story is progressing quite nicely and surprises in the storyline adds spice to the story. The translation is also done very well. 👌

Lanxiang's old life was so harsh, it pained me so much. Gosh. The only silver lining is that Songbai was there waiting in the wings. Huhu.

I read in mtl, some part is not cleared but mostly can be understood. The story is fluffy romance similar to My Husband with Scholar Syndrome, but I think MHSS is more fluffy. This novel is half about the economic struggling and half romance. I like a face slapping or when the bad guy got his distribution, in this novel I think only the ex-husband got what he deserved, a bit pity though. I kinda want to read bad ending about the woman who caused MC miscarriage, sadly nothing about... more>> her. <<less

I dislike reading mtl but I did for this book (and it was okay). The premise and setup of the book are very sweet and interesting.

There is character development for the male lead as he is a young man without rebirth memories. And the story unfolds in a fairly logical manner with a heavy slice-of-life flavor.

The romance is sweet, especially since it's not an instant getting together. The wall between them is slowly melted but it is still fun to watch. And the business building is very immersive. The leads... more>> both take their own paths it support each other in a very fluffy manner. I liked that it wast always successful and they had to be very careful because in the era they lived in, yet could go to jail for their side businesses. Though I felt it was a little bland toward the end (especially the extra chapters) but that's just me or the mtl.

Overall, this is making it into y favorites. I hope a great translator and editor work on this so I can reread it in the future. <<less

It was great. There's no sugarcoating just because FL'a family is a lil bit rich and the fact that they literally went thru storms together, helping eachother, gradually falling in love. The twist of the story is nice too.

I would be very excited to see the whole translation because MTL will always not be as good as the one with proper grammars

This is one of the best novels I have read. The writing is outstanding and conveys the character's feelings very well to the point you would feel heartache for the "antagonist". The main couple is sweet their love is well-developed, and their relationship is built slowly and steadily in a way you would never know what happened.

Super recommended for a slice of life, rebirth, poor to rich novel.

Strong start but really weak finish.

The MC is a regressor who returns to her teenage years and decides to look for the man she married late in life, the ML. This means giving up a cushy life and heading to the country. Stubborn but clever, she arranges to live in the ML's home and sells things on the black market for extra money.

The ML is the son of a "landlord" family and is treated like crap by the rest of the villagers (even accusing him of r*pe) but he is... more>> a strong and hardworking individual. He's resistant to the MC at first but quickly warms up to her even if he doesn't think he's worthy of her. So he focuses on gaining money so that he can be rich and propose to her.

We join the story as the MC decides to go to the country and be with the ML. It's a fairly standard "living in the country in the 70s" story but there really isn't anyone scheming against the MC. They do go gung ho in selling things on the down low and there are really only 2 events that are problematic for the couple. One of which has no explanation for how it was solved.

Spoiler

The first is the former student of the ML's "teacher". This guy is a rapist who targeted one village girl and the ML's older sister (as well as students when he went to be an assistant professor) as well as stole funds and blamed it on the ML's teacher. He attempts to divert attention from himself to the ML by revealing the pig farm the ML was running during the time this was considered bad. Between the witnesses (and victims) of his various r*pes, proof that he stole the money (and then tried to frame someone else twice for it), and the involvement of the MC's ex from the previous life, he is sentenced to death.

The other is the MC's ex from her previous life. He is also a regressor and remembers the life he had with the MC. He desperately wants to renew his romance with her and make up to her about what happened (such as the miscarriage of their two children) but the MC has moved on. So he forces her to leave the ML but in the end, she still doesn't open her heart to him and they go their separate ways. Or at least I'm assuming because once the MC and ML reunite, he is only briefly mentioned in passing with no closure on that arc at all. I know that this was done so the ML can become a powerful businessman but it was still weird.

[collapse]

Otherwise, it's a weird kind of slice of life about how they sell stuff on the black market and raise pigs to slaughter and typical 70s stuff. We do get to see the ML's family get a happy ending, even his grandma gets her dreams come true.

Spoiler

Despite the fact that this woman has been constantly described as being confined to a bed for most of the story, she gets a wheelchair and eventually becomes a math/science professor at university. They even describe her hair as 'thinning' to indicate she's getting older and weaker but she's given a paragraph about how she is now a professor.

[collapse]

There are way better 70s stories to read. <<less

This novel had good reviews and several people had recommended it, so I came in to this with a lot of expectations only to be disappointed.

- It wasn't directly stated how old the MC was, but it was mentioned that she might've been around the age of 40 or above when she died. I was slightly worried at first because of the age difference (ML was 19 around this time) but I thought it had been resolved because MC said something along the lines of ML still being young and... more>> she'd wait etc but then proceeded to strongly pursue him- even to the point of being physically intimate with him from time to time? I see this as a reoccurring problem in a lot of CN novels, and I am aware that they're technically both adults, but it's still kind of creepy. I think it's a completely unnecessary detail, and author could've made him slightly older or have done a time skip before MC started really pursuing him.

-The writing was so bland and boring. I'm usually pretty patient when it comes to novels especially CN ones as they tend to be slower than most novels, but this really dragged on for so long. There wasn't really anything interesting about it, MC didn't set any goals or plans either. I feel like the fact that MC literally repeats the same schedule everyday for even up to 50 whole chapters just makes it sooo so boring. The author had actual characters she could've used to make this more interesting, like the ex husband, or MC's family, but they were either cast aside really early on in the story or only shown every 20-25 chapters or so. I know they'd probably appear later on, but the rest of the characters who are shown a lot too in the current chapters are also just really generic and don't add on anything to the story. I can confidently say that if half of the countryside characters were removed, barely anything would change.

-Usually, if the writing isn't great or the story gets dragged on, the romance and the chemistry between the main characters carry the weight. But i've seen some reviews say that the way the characters act are realistic but to me they're just like any other CN novel characters. It's not that they have any bad qualities, but I'm really missing the distinctiveness to them.

-There wasn't any background story. I know the author would probably explain everything later on but the description of the novel honestly gave more details than the actual novel itself. Like from what I remember, MC is supposedly a college student, so where are her classmates? Friends? Classmates? School life? Or even her own course?? 95% of the characters even up till chapter 50 are just characters already from the countryside, Tan Qing and Jian Li might've not been from the countryside, but MC only made friends with them there, so where are the other characters?? One thing that also made the MC so bland is the fact that the novel description had described MC as an old woman who went through many hardships and regrets, but the author didn't even bother to show how MC could apply things that she learned in the past or really anything to her current life- sometimes I feel like MC is an actual 20 year old instead of an old woman. I don't expect her to act like an old woman, but they literally did not carry anything over from the previous life to the current. I feel like the only contribution MC's past life is to her current is to chase ML and know what he likes, etc- but other than that it really doesn't add anything to the story. Like it just gets so tiring to hear all about the ML and whatever revolves around his life but never the MC.

I mean, this novel honestly isn't all that bad considering other CN novels. But it's really not that special either, this novels doesn't deserve a 4.5 but maybe more of a 4.0. <<less

This was a very solid novel. Very satisfying story, well laid out timeline, and brilliant slow romance with lots of ups and downs.

I can't stress enough how wonderful this story was. Many times I read these novels and expect flat characters, but this one had developed characters with believable characteristics.

the main villain aside, I never really understood the first husband but the final chapters give more insight into his thinking and I really appreciated that.

The second villain was devious. I like that it followed some psychology characteristics of how that type of personality may think.

[collapse]

I think this may be the most well-drafted Chinese webnovel I've ever read. It did not have as much cultural explanations as some other novels, but I'm familiar enough to understand how that time period played out. Really great timeline and planning. Huge respect to the writer for this masterpiece.

Translation is excellent. <<less
