Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

Can't help but think Author has a heavy prejudice against men.

Started alright but after MC transfer, she quickly shows how horrid she is. Close if not worse than the OG Char she possessed.

Throughout the chapters I've been through, MC has been getting lazier and finding all sorts of excuses to pass on work to everyone else.

She also said "Men should be used or else they get spoiled" or something along those lines whilst she do less and less of the housework whilst also relying on the men to be the... more>> bread winners thus far. That's on top of her luxurious attitude that seems not to know how to be frugal, considering the time and place.

Benefit of doubt that it gets better later but not gonna stay and wait for that. All I got from the MC thus far is a spoiled brat, to say the least.

That and if it wasn't obvious enough, did not find her likable nor actually reasonable hence really not worth it.

The other prominent characters like the OG Characters in-laws doesn't really help with how much the let the OG and MC get away with, even if they are out of line.

Also have massive lore dump from earliest chapters then translation is kinda rough, though is more okay later on but definitely can be still be polished. <<less

I love it, I love it, I love it

Something good must be said three times!!!

I like how detail the author delivers the story from 60s to 90s

... more>> I like how the author breakdown the information what had happened in China at that times, it was quite different with my country and realised why there were so many immigrants from China in other countries and reading this story just like reading history book, very enjoyable.

Also, reading this novel with setting of 60s to 90s, makes other stories with the same background are pale in comparison, imo <<less

Just finished speed reading this story. I'm amazed that some parts of it passed censorship, especially since a lot of the historical references are directly named rather than using vague euphemisms.

The general tone of the story is very much a slice of life, following MC and her family from year to year, all the way from raising three little buns on her own to getting them married off and starting to raise the grandchildren generation. The early parts when they're still living in the country feels a bit like Fields... more>> of Gold, in that it seems to be all about the food. But then I guess in that era, food is the only thing that gets people excited, lol. Later on, as the story setting transitions to the Capital, it's more about building up businesses.

The pacing of the story isn't too bad for a narrative that has to cover such a long period of time. There are some parts which dragged or wasn't as interesting in my personal opinion, but still managed to keep my interest to continue reading. What I like best are the characters, specifically the relationships and the interactions.

MC is very much a strong modern woman who is perfectly able to balance what she is and isn't willing to compromise with the reality of the times she's living in. She's not perfect, but she's oh so relatable. Her husband feels a lot like a supporting character than a co-star, and objectively speaking has some flaws, but still feels like very much a match made in heaven to the MC, and their fluff is adorable. The relationships between MC and her sons is both funny and enviable. <<less

I didn’t expect to like this story because usually stories that are this long tend to be draggy and filled with unnecessary twists but this story was really sweet. Besides the transmigration thing it was very realistic. There were many characters that were introduced because you end up following the lives of all three generations of the Zhou family but most of them had distinctive characteristics. There were some characters that were really annoying at times but you sort of understand why they’re the way they are? Like no one... more>> is cartoonishly evil or saintly good. There are people that are better than others but we see people change and grow as their lives progress. In the end, I cried when I finished the story because it felt like I had parted with long time friends.

The FL was great. She was fair, rational, and hardworking but not a Mary Sue. Best of all, even though she wasn’t a selfish person at the end of the day, she prioritized her own happiness first. She loved her husband but she wasn’t ever overly dependent on him. In fact, while it seemed like she called all the shots at home, the pair had an equal relationship because she did consider his opinions on big decisions. However, she never let his more annoying family members bully her or exploit their family for even a second. That being said, she never went out of her way to harm or scheme against anyone either. She was just content with making sure her family was happy and trouble free.

The ML was a solid husband. Although he was steadfast in his morals he was very supportive of the FL. While he had some moments in the beginning where he felt a little inferior to the FL because she was getting better and better and he was still a farmer, he never tries to get in her way. Instead, he just works harder to support her. My favourite thing about him is that he feels like a real guy. He’s not an overbearing CEO or a genius scholar. He’s stoic but not cold and standoffish and he communicates with the FL like a real person. He experiences jealousy but he always trusts the FL. He’s my ideal image of a husband tbh lol

The kids are great. They’re all distinctive and their characters don’t get shafted when the relationship between the ML and FL are solidified the way kids tend to be in other stories. In a 700 chapter story you really see them grow up in a realistic way.

A great slice of life for anyone with free time! <<less

I thought the novel was going to be a rather good read, despite the 500+ chapters, but it's just so-so. The slice of life tag is really a slice of life, even if there was nothing going on in the day and it's just their regular activity, i.g. The ML going out to work and the FML doing her chores and cooking, the pace of the story is extremely slow--in spite of time moving rather quickly in the novel.

That however it isn't why I didn't really like the book. Rather,... more>> it was the leads--especially the female lead. At first, I could cope with her attitude and was like 'yeah, do your own thing' but as the story progressed, the less I grew to like her. I understand that she's just a transmigrator and it was the original owner who chose to do it, but it's as if the story shifted in her favor. Her personality is also too stubborn for my liking--reminds me of the Overbearing CEO's white rabbit.

The author tries to paint her in good light where everything she does is justified, by adding tidbits on what happened around her after/ present. It gets boring. Also, the author does 'give' small hints on her flaws, but they're always faintly mentioned before drawing out the good side of her.

And the ML? The author intended him to be a 'good guy'. However, everything they build up just gets trampled on by many of the other things they write. It makes me question whether or not they're actually trying to make us see him in a better light or not.

Spoiler

In my honest opinion, I think that the ML is alright. He's not super cold and overpowered, he's just a man. Many readers were bashing him for being 'horrible' and 'bad'. It makes me think that they forget what period of time the novel is set in and how the world ran in that time period. Sure, there are some men that didn't think in that orthodox way but that's not the ML is it? He wasn't even described in that way, nor was any of his interactions portraying him in that way. Granted that it should have been 'consensual', it's not wholly his fault. Some readers labeled it as 'rape', but it's very much so 'dubcon'. The scenes are brushed over but still, the female acquiesced to it and didn't straightforwardly reject his advances. (The author likes to shield the FML by bringing up that the FML is trying to act like the original as to not arouse any suspicion. She also brought it up before the current FML and the ML went to bed together.)

Also, described ambiguously, the whole ordeal where some readers called the ML an 'a**hole' for not respecting the FML's decision/ choice.

Most of the time, what we're reading is a narrative and her thoughts. She does vocalize her opinion of it, but it's mostly done internally--what she conveys to the ML is more like complaints and not her actual thoughts and feelings. She also just doesn't feel like she needs to explain it to him either, which makes the situation not so great for them later. (It strengthens their relationship, but meh.) She also discovers what the original owner did and proceeds to hide the matter until they reach the capital city.

[collapse]

Overall, it's not a bad read. I just don't really like the lead of the story. But if you like a story about childcare, cooking, farming, not too much drama, and the protagonist having a spatial ability, you'll like this story. Oh, the romance is also kind of missing, it doesn't give me any fluff when the two are together or whenever they're interacting. (It's not that it's written in a mature manner, it's really just absent from the novel itself.) <<less

To deep slice of life for me, if a writer goes that deep into the setting then I really expect more from a reincarnator. I mean, who would bring food instead of knowledge if you go to a poor place? Would you even stay in a country that will be extremely difficult to live in for the next 30 years? As for the girl she "replaced", the original failed at life but she had ambition and I just cant sneer and say that´s bad compared to the shovel of sh*t... more>> the writer crams down my mouth, "be happy with what you have, never strive to be happier". That´s not to say the novel doesn't have its great moments. I was never the targeted audience (being male) so take my review with a grain a salt. <<less

Okay, I mtled this. First, the mtl is easy to understand. Second, the plot is really good. Its the kind of slice of life that will heal you after reading some dog blood story. Third, I really like the MC, she would let the people around her prosper. She doesnt let them work for her forever, she encourage them to fly on their own. She cultivate them. Thats what I like about her. I don not have a strong opinion about the ml. He's okay, I guess. The way the... more>> kids are portrayed is great. They really seem like kids. Unlike some stories that portray the kids as genius or sometimes they dont even seem like kids anymore. Its super long 701 chapters. But reading it is worth it. ☺ <<less

It was confusing at the staring about where the MC transmigrated. It was mentioned that MC transmigrated into a novel where her kids were the villain and her husband died when he was in 50’s or something.. The body she was wearing left the family with money and died in foreign land.

so what MC did after here transmigration was:

- fatten up her kids

- fatten up her injured husband

- becoming from lazy mother to best mother in the village

- giving her family the best

-ripoff faces with her vampire maiden family except third brother

- buy food, spend money, find a way to make money

- family conflicts with second house because the second wife is jealous of MC

- let her cubs study

- study herself

- coming clean with husband about her space and her origins

- becoming a math teacher which made MC from lazy woman to best Woman in the village Teacher Lin

-giving college entrance examination and going to Benjing to study with her oldest son

- buying shops, making money and making more money

- getting pregnant again and giving birth to daughter (well I’m not there yet but that’s how it seems from how the story is going

There are some nosy people but that doesn’t affect our MC. For her, like is like and dislike is dislike. Oh, and MC and ML are all lovey Dovey even when they are in there late 30’s..

one of my favourite novels <3

I love everything about this novel except for :

Spoiler

I don't like how the ML kept pressuring the MC to have a daughter when she was clearly reluctant and how biased he was towards his daughter. When the MC was not even pregnant yet, he was already setting aside money for his then non-existent daughter's dowry and don't want to leave some for his sons. Like, I'm all for the novels where the father dotes on their daughter but I hate how he barely cared for his sons yet setting aside everything just for the daughter. He also said multiple times in the novel that sons are useless ? Aren't his sons his childrens too ? Plus, it was getting pretty annoying that the author keep mentioning how the ML doted on his daughter. Like, we get it. I'm getting tired of him putting down his sons and only showing affections for his daughter. Also, when he was taking care of MC when she was pregnant, it seems like he was only taking care of her because she was pregnant with his daughter and didn't care about the risks that MC would face when giving birth at an advance age.

[collapse]

So yeah, overall, I'll give it a 4.6. It's a good slice of life novel and other than the part I mentioned above, I truly enjoyed reading this novel. <<less

701 chapters and not a boring 1. This is really slice of life that crossed over several decades. From the 60s to the 90s. She didn't just raised her own cubs she tried to uplift the whole family to be better. She developed her in-laws family from being a poor mudlegs to educated, business-minded people. Especially the children. I think my favorite transformation is Xu Shengqiang.
Spoiler

He was a really bad egg at first. Always fighting. But after he went to jail, he saw how his Zhou family tried to protect him in prison so he was not bullied. And he decided to grow up after that. He made peace with his family and worked for them and followed their principles.

[collapse]

I'm really touched when they finally decided to take second brother with them to the Capital. I know they shouldn't meddle with other branches since the family's separated, but second brother Zhou is really pitiful.

There's not much face slapping. But it's more of how they developed and improved their situations. It's a really good read but sometimes I wonder if it's accurate. The phone line installation is 4000 but you can also purchase a property at 10k. How expensive are phone lines in 1980's?

Thee best slice of life transmigration book I have ever come accross here are the things I liked the most:

1. There is a really character growth throughout the novel, inmost of the novel you can see the protagonist have progress in the age but the mentality remains the same however that's not the case here you really feel the changes thought the journey of their life.

2. The MC and ML are excellent and the way their relationship develops is very natural with good chemistry.

3. The story doesn't just revolve against... more>> main protagonist the side characters are very developed as well.

Overall it's a highly recommend you won't regret reading this. <<less

Great slice of life transmigration, very relaxing. The protagonists has her cliche knowledge of the future and an even more cliche space but the way she lives her life, how she relates to the husband and children she inherited, and how she deals with the protagonists that were the downfall of her family is very refreshing. The best thing about this novel is the personal favorite interactions and generation gap. How she relates to her mother in law, and raising children with a mentality of someone from the 21st century... more>> vs how people raised children in the 60’s after an era of famine <<less

Wonderful slice of life that will satisfy all your slow daily living and cuteness cravings.

the FL isn't a pushover and uses her modern knowledge subtly, she doesn't try to do outrageous things, she just takes better care of her family and those around her. She settles into the lifestyle pretty fast and from just playing her role correctly she goes on to integrate into her little family and builds deeper connections with those around her. I feel that she is a very responsible person.

All in all I am loving this... more>> story. I read the first 120 or so chapters in one go thinking I'd be satisfied with 1 release a day but turns out it's so fun to read and so well translated that it could never be enough 😂

Anyway for all you slice of life lovers out there, this one is worth your time!

Edit: Why can't I give this story 10 stars? I love it! This is the definition of slice of life! Warm, fuzzy, makes you appreciate all the little things in life more. Every morning I wake up to read the chapter with my coffee and it's such a delightful start to my day ❤️

Edit:
Spoiler

The ML and FL talk it out not too far into the story. She comes clean about her transmigration and he accepts her, they have such an amazing bond. This made me so happy, the ML was aware of all the changes but let her tell him herself rather than asking her because he loved her and she takes great care of their family and he felt like whatever the reason behind her changes he would love her no matter what 🥰

[collapse]

Edit chapter 289: This story just keeps getting better. As they leave the countryside and head to the city, they build relationships with other families and people and the interactions really warm your heart. This story capitalizes on how treating each other with respect and kindness brings people closer together. Bad people don't have to be trampled upon with ruthlessness, just treated with caution, protecting yourself and those around you when needed and allowing those around you to help you in speaking up. 🥰 The highlight of my day!

Edit end: I loved the whole journey of this book and I wish it could've continued! But all things come to an end and all I can say is that I am so so grateful the translator finished this story so quickly and translated it so well! I hope to find another book like this to read someday 😭

2023 reread

Still as amazing as the first time I read it! I've read many of the same types since (tg to 70s-80s) but this is by far the best! <<less

For the comments that suggest reading up to chapters 300-400, I totally agree. If this story ended in that chapter then I would give it at least 4 stars. But it still continues, <sad>.

There are several reasons why I gave a low rating, mainly due to the characters of this novel. Let me explain

Spoiler
  • In the first half of this novel (from life in the village until they started having a business in the capital), I actually liked FL's character, she was firm, brave and independent. But in the second half of the novel, she becomes softer and less firm. As a result, many problems arise because they are allowed to develop. Something that could have been resolved early on, she let it become a problem that ended up bothering her again.
  • The ML in the first half of the novel is quite good. Although his desire to have a daughter is a bit annoying, but overall he is still ok, obedient and listens to his wife. But I really dislike him in the second half of this novel, initially starting from him making decisions about his nephew without discussing it with his wife first, which ultimately caused problems.
  • Still continuing the point above, ML's obsession with having daughters is really annoying. Can you imagine how obsessed he was with making his wife give birth to a daughter in her 40s?. You read it right, she is in her 40s, approaching the age of female menopause. Whether he really loves his wife seems questionable.
    Spoiler

There is one chapter where FL vomits and falls asleep due to exhaustion (because of her pregnancy). ML grinned and with a smile, he went to his dumpling shop. Can you imagine how he thought more about his future daughter than his wife.

    [collapse]
  • There is also the character of FL's mother-in-law who is very annoying. Ugh reading it was unbearable, she was too involved in FL and ML's family affairs. I won't discuss it any longer, you can read it yourself. Hopefully I will be kept away from such people.
  • I don't like ML's behavior regarding daughter topic, and I don't agree with how the author wrote it as if ML was not wrong. In the comments in the novel, I saw many who approved of ML's behavior. I feel like they all need to see a psychologist, their worldview needs to be tweaked a bit. In the medical world, mothers are prioritized over unborn children. And getting pregnant in your 40s is dangerous and risky for the mother. If you love your partner, don't make her suffer.
  • The characters in this novel have an almost uniform general view, namely "the capital is better, the village is less good". It is true that the capital and developing cities are good, have complete facilities, good education, good income, etc., but there is no need to make it seem like the village is not good and not suitable for living in.I don't know if this is just the author's view or the view of Chinese people in general. Because in my opinion this view is somewhat discriminatory and encourages mass urbanization which in the end actually makes it difficult to distribute development evenly.
[collapse]

The translation site is not friendly to mobile readers, I am not satisfied reading on that site, I have to zoom in or adjust the font size every time I move chapters.

Lastly, I recommend reading up to chapter 300, above that, I don't recommend it. Hope you guys consider it

This story has a pretty interesting premise in that it's so slice of life. You are literally following the mc's life for decades. I loved the setting and the kids with the MC. They're adorable and have clear distinct personalities (San er or the youngest child does in my opinion tend to get lost a bit because of everything else happening).

I enjoy the family a lot because mil does sort of think her daughter in law is being useless and all, but she still knows when to step back honestly.... more>> They care about their son and their grandkids a lot and when the MC proves she's capable, leave her completely alone in terms of money or whatever. Like there isn't too much crazy drama between the family except the second sister in law but even that is like petty jealousy mostly and not scheming or being a psychopath. Idk it's more realistic and the family don't feel like pests that plague the novel the entire time. Though eventually I admit that second sister-in-law and one of her daughters is a little too annoying but they don't really interact all that much so it's ok.

The villains feel realistic too. Like it's usually her sister in law who's jealous or someone who is lazy or thinks the MC is dumb, but MC doesn't go out of her way to get revenge. After all, the best revenge is to live well and she tends to take care of it in the exact moment like with a verbal or physical smack down instead of holding out for dozens of chapters. The MC really only cares about living well and she's firm in how she interacts with others. Don't like this person, cut them off.

The ML Is the stoic and kind of calm type and he really reads as a real person with actual flaws and strengths instead of a Gary Stu type. I can appreciate him but but he's honestly not 100% my favorite because of how often he tries to "force" her to have s*x (he doesn't r*pe her. It's more dubcon in this than noncon technically- it's that whole webnovel thing where the woman or the bottom in bl can't handle the ml's s*xual energy and are constantly complaining/afraid of ML wanting to have sex). She doesn't want to but ends up doing it for him anyway.

I think you could argue marital r*pe because outwardly and inwardly she continually tries to refuse and shows no signs that she consents. Later it gets kind of ambiguous- like it's implied she consents but nowhere in her internal or external monologue when they're about to does she consent? The MC clearly complains a hell of a lot but also says she secretly enjoys it but doesn't express it to him? How is ML supposed to know she actually wants it when all she does really is complain about how often he wants to have s*x and etc? Additionally MC seems to use s*x as a way to get what she wants from ML so even more seems like it's not something she wants to do but more she's willing to in order to gain something else. Idk the s*x life was brought up way too often for this novel since it wasn't even sexy and it was borderline dub/non-con for a while imo. Plus it's just that there's no chemistry for the s*x either. It's so plain and boringly written or addressed. The ML is so flat personality wise after a while where all he cares about is eating and s*x. It's just weird that he literally cares about nothing but that during the time they're on the farm portion of the story and I don't like it in this novel because he seems so 2d. He really doesn't get involved with her educating the kids so while the kids seem to have real relationships with MC it's more token with ml. He does the chores, goes to work, eats, has s*x with MC, and sleeps and that's pretty much it unless MC asks him to go do something.

He's also kind of weird about wanting the MC to get pregnant again though they have three kids already and she's getting up there in age. It actually really pissed me off because he doesn't let up on it even when she's older and even when she explains that she doesn't want to go through a painful pregnancy. Actually they both kind of irritated me in this aspect.

Spoiler

Firstly, the previous owner of the body got litigated before MC took over so theoretically they can't have another child unless it's an accident. It's absolutely not our mc's fault that she's litigated but when ML kept trying to force the pregnancy she's super wishy-washy about communicating that she doesn't want more kids because she's afraid of pregnancy and child birth. ML keeps being pushy about it and it's annoying as hell but MC never outright actually has a conversation about it with him and keeps giving in when he pushes even a little bit (she'll act upset about pregnancy but then ML will sidetrack her or they'll have sec and she never actually says no).

While all of this is annoying to begin with, the way she handles telling him the news about litigation really pushed me over the edge. She tells him while they're traveling and he gets mad. It's understandable in my opinion cuz he obviously doesn't know yet that she's not the same woman he married but she then spins it on him- blaming him and making him the problem and it feels very emotionally abusive. She also says s*upid sh*t like the woman's always right and then coaxes him with s*x. It's kind of gross how she makes it seem like he's the one that's got a problem when usually (not just in that time but also now) you have to have real conversations with your SO about these types of things. The litigation might not be her fault but the way she spins it on him absolutely is- she says sh*t like if you're so mad at me why don't we get a divorce knowing how much he loves her and not even giving him space to process any of the news. Why can't she just tell him that she absolutely doesn't want to go through that kind of pain again or something since she clearly never wants to anyway.

ML really wants a daughter which is like fine, but he anticipates treating her better than his sons and etc. Also how is he even supposed to guarantee that it's going to be a girl? During this period I'm pretty sure gender identification of the fetus was banned or something. It maybe heartwarming in this time period to want a girl so badly since males were favored over females but like I kind of got irritated with how biased he was already planning to be? Like he says things like our sons can make their own way but I will give all our money to our daughter and other stuff. Idk. You never see the ML connect to his sons the way he dotes on their daughter after she's born. The reason I gave this 4 stars is just that the story really starts to drag after they move to the capital and da wa goes to the military. It gets kind of boring to me anyway because the kids stop appearing as much sort of and they introduce a plethora of characters like distant relatives and such which might've been confusing for me because of Mtl but idk. I'll probably come back to this later when more has been translated.

Anyway, a good read imo if a bit slow sometimes and the ML issues I mentioned above. Very good slice of life though but not really re-reading material because I tried and noticed all the issues I saw above. <<less

I love this story so much, it's really heartwarming. I enjoyed the family's journey from poor to rich.

Reading this novel made me feel like a mother watching my children grew up to be a successful person.

This story deserves more recognition.

I love this novel especially since it is looong one and filled with 3 cute buns growing up into mature men.

The story is more focused on family of MC and their growth. It is truly filled with so much cuteness and warmth.

I personally enjoy the story especially the part when they were still in the village.

For sure you guys wont be disappointed reading this

I finished reading the mtl-ed version and dannnnng, I love it.

Some says that it feels repetitive but I definitely love the story.

It feels like I was there and experienced how the life is in sixties to nineties.

Spoiler

I also felt emotional when OUR (yes! They are also my sons who I read growing up) three sons grown up, got married and have families of their own.

I also felt sad when grandpa Wang, grandpa Zhou and grandma Zhou died of old age.

Happy for the development of all characters in the story.

I also felt stressed for the second brother Zhou having that kind of wife and daughter.

I just want to say that I really enjoyed reading the novel cause it takes me back to sixties. ❤️ <<less

Currently I'd give this a 4.5. It's not exactly a 5 but for its genre it's up there. The first few chapters to me are kind of boring, but needed to establish the plot.

The protagonist is interesting in the way that she isn't overly intent on buttering people up or changing the general public's view on the former person. She's very "I mind my business, people can say whatever" and I like that. Too often (normally in ancient settings tbh) protagonist are overly bent on revenge or being a miraculous... more>> leader among humanity but this protagonist is content with staying mostly in her lane. In that way it makes a nice enjoyable slice of life novel.

The cooking parts are also interesting and not overly gratuitous.

as for the ml

Spoiler

So far (as of chapter 61) we haven't seen a whole lot of him, but I'm glad the plot is made so the former person only really interacted with him sparely, thus it helps you not feel too bad about the whole situation. Also the MC isn't overly willing to follow the "plot" and have relations with him. They're civil but she sets boundaries and though he doesn't really understand why he's not overly pushy. Which is great in a male lead. Too often ML force themselves onto the FL and it's not cute. Even if people think it's "assertive" it's not lol. I'm tired of reading novels where the FL is like "I let him have his way with me, bearing it". So yeah, he's a nice guy. I would say realistic even.

The main focus for me is the family relationship so not overly concern with the romance aspect, though it is nice and doesn't take away from the plot. The kids are cute and not brats, I think they're written nicely. Sometimes these novels make a kid like 8 years old act like they're barely cognisant and purely there for fluff and not much else but these kids have personality and I feel add a lot to the plot. Because I skimmed the first few chapters not too sure how her little space portal works a but it's a cool aspect and in this type of novel it's not really important to know all the details. Plus it doesn't make her overly powerful, it's just a nice little thing she had.

edit: however considering how long it is, I have a feeling it might dwindle in interest at some point. <<less
