Yuan Ye and film emperor Fang Shaoyi were married for ten years. After a stamp from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, they got divorced and their red booklets became green booklets. Back when they had gotten married, they had proudly announced the news to the whole world. After their divorce, though, neither dared to speak up, determined to hide this development.

Film emperor gong vs writer shou. Regarding accompaniment, regarding companionship. Regarding those things inseparable and difficult to speak of about affection.

Summarized in one phrase: We were in love for thirteen years, and then we got divorced.

Its a well written entertainment bl story compared to most I've read. Sometimes I crave angst where couple breakup not because of cheating or scummy chara but due to realistic reason, this novel indeed satisfied that but not to the extent where I wanted to stop because its too much.

Spoiler

I actually dont like some of MC's characteristics but maybe thats what made the story great.

MCs frankness and disdain on the black areas in entertainment industry is kinda irritating. He knows that its filthy and scary and yet he wouldn't let ML temporarily retreat. I get that he's afraid the ML is compromising for him, but meh it looks like to me, for him ML is not ML if hes not in the industry. (Contradicts his statement after their variety show)

The ml's stand on divorce for me is acceptable. It kinda looked like he forced MC to sign the papers even if MC is on the verge of crying. But if it was me id do the same, cause MC did say he wanted to separate he said it, meaning he's been thinking about it for some time. That's a red flag that he's not happy anymore and with his attitude before the divorce it just shows how hes tired of their relationship.

ML is also to blame for lack of communication, come on dude you also notice how MC compromised and changed to something you don't want him to be (taciturn) and yet you just kept it to yourself.

Gosh that was long rant. There's a part of me that kinda wished they didn't get back together 😂

I really loved this one. The way their relationship has slowly changed was described very well and with a good amount of maturity. They both definitely had a good amount of character development. I also liked that both of them had their own life and people in it and neither of them had single-minded love brain.

The weakest part imo was the arc describing how the divorce itself happened.... more>>

I feel like they needed a separation... but I don't think it needed to be a divorce? Not to mention, the way ML went about it really rubbed me the wrong way. I do however understand that when MC suggested it, they had already separated in his heart.

[collapse]

All in all, it really goes to show just how important communication in relationship is. There were many bittersweet moments but there was also a lot of fluff. I have really enjoyed this and even lost sleep to finish reading. The translation was also delightful. <<less

In conclusion, the story is really great. It is very realistic and angsty. I saw both the MC and ML together after they were divorced and I felt so suffocated for them because from the little things they do and the things they say and how they behave, I can honestly see that both of them still love and care for each other alot. So at that time, I couldn't understand why they actually divorced each other if they still had feelings for each other. But then after reading the flashbacks that explained the reason for their divorce (which is around the second half of the novel, which is also quite late) I understood. Honestly, even if it was me at that point in time, a divorce would be an ideal solution for whatever their problem is. Though another way is for them to talk and say everything out but I do think that one year away from each other allowed the both of them to think through everything and solve their own issues, so that when they finished solving their own issues they can approach each other and solve the other problems together.

[collapse]

It was definitely an angsty read, but nonetheless very well written. It made me so emotional throughout and I was feeling so bad for both the MC and ML. But there are also times when the story made me smile and laugh so I think it's a good mix of fluff and angst :) <<less

Just like the author's other story Tattoo, it's a very mellow and down-to-earth story about an actor and a writer who divorced, yet they left each other filled with unresolved emotions and tensions. While this one is a bit less exciting due to the fact that there isn't really any pursuit, and is more about rekindling feelings and working out past issues as to why they broke up; it's still quite a good read. It's very mellow, there isn't much drama or any third parties trying to bu*t in besides... more>> the whole "why did they break up" question that lingers.

Characterization wise, MC and ML are nice in that they both have backbones, they both have a temper (MC more so than ML) but both show they really care for each other even if it's just trying to let the other come out as unscathed by scandal or criticism as possible. ML isn't a "cold, stoic, dictator/cool guy" type either, which is a little uncommon. As for plot, what you see is what you get, it's watching and waiting for the two to work out their feelings and remarry. There is a side couple, but honestly in my opinion they should have gotten their own story for they are much too complicated and interesting for just a few hints and an extra chapter.

Overall, if you liked Tattoo, you'll more or less like this one. While I can't say there wasn't a second that I felt that the story was a little boring, it was still a fun time for the most part and honestly I would rate this as a 4.5 in my book. If you're tired of dramatics or just want a romance with older men who aren't so naive, I do recommend giving this a shot. <<less

The thing is they lived together for many years but never had a proper conversation... I mean they do talk, love and so on but they don't communicate when it's necessary meaning when they have issues

They just ignored it thinking everything is okay or act like such hence leading to divorce

Even after getting back together they never talked about what went wrong until things goes wrong again

This story flows like a calm stream, there are some turbulence sometimes, but it calms down soon once again..

* The characters are realistic.. MC is short tempered and straightforward, ML is quiet and distant.. They had burning passion.. But what happens after one and half a decade??? There would inevitably be some doubt or lack of communication which may cause some unforeseen events, such as separation here..

* ML comes from a famous family.. But he is not an omnipotent film emperor.. The film industry is not their playground, nor do... more>> the directors or actors boot-licks them..

* The scene prior to the divorce is saddening.. ML's accident was worrisome.. But within next few chapters the sad feelings mellows out.. All over, there's no intense emotion..

* I enjoyed the filmmaking scenes.. I liked how ML had to practice a smile day by day for hundreds of times just to perfect it, that he still now needs time to get into the character.. It felt real..

* It totally creeped me out when a bloodied male actor was dragged out after getting r*ped.. It reminded me of the darkness of our real life film industry..

* Netizens here don't get much screentime which is obviously a good thing..

* If you are tired of fast paced melodramatic stories, give it a try.. I personally prefer this one over Tattoo.. <<less

5 ⭐ from me.

Absolutely loved the characters. Ex-to-lovers is one of my favourite tropes which was done really well here. I enjoy the exploring nuances of an already-established relationship.

I came here straight after Tattoo. I wasn't expecting too much because of the mixed reviews but I ended up liking this one more.

It's an even slower burn than Tattoo was so I understand how some people would get impatient; this one incorporates flashbacks -- they probably make up a third of the book. But it's still very well-paced imo, unlike MDZS, and I relished reading every part.

Tattoo, I also really liked because I found it novel how the MC chased the ML but the reason the ML was so... more>> closed off turned out to be because an obsessive ex killed himself right next to him while they were sleeping together and that felt a bit unreal. It really felt to me like a guide to how to chase someone respectfully, which I actually appreciated and learned quite a bit from lol. But the themes here, so many so intricately woven I can't describe them in a few words, were more grounded and relatable, esp having observed parents who refuse to legally separate despite a relationship that has already been unsalvageable for years.

The divorce and the one-year break before they met each other again wasn't a mere mistake out of mutual pettiness.

-

Side comment because I'm feeling salty reading all the negative comments on a book I've fallen in love with; people who want to read books completely within their expectations should write their own lmao. <<less

Wow. After all the angst I've been through the main CP, I was blessed with tons of dog food here and there. I'm happy to be one of the many that joined them on their journey from sweet innocence to their fatigues and obstacles and finally, to their reconciliation and happy ending. Those tears were worth it. Love the author.

WHAT THE f*ck IS UP WITH THE SIDE CP? I like them, I really do especially YSR—such a precious kid. I regret not reading their extra first, so now I'm a little bit agitated. My heart is fragile, I can't take BEs even vague ones with open endings like theirs. I might follow Fang Shaoyi to the ICU/j.

Dear readers, do you have any news about dear author and their plans on the side CP? Like tidbits about them or maybe a whole ass novel for them? Orz <<less

That was real gem during my reading the first half every now and then I felt my heart skip a beat there was much tension between the MC and ML and always feel uncomfortable
tense tense tense everywhere and every time those two near each other I really feel my heart skip a beat when they talk to each other
It's the first novel give me the feeling that I'm part of the story don't know why getting nervure during their conversation and waiting for the result like it will affect my life I'm really so affected by this novel
What I love the most about this novel that mostly every chapter end with something encourage you to keep reading and don't want to stop ever until the end

Even the flashback from their youth days are so amazing this novel really touch my heart

I'm so in love with Yuan Ye character so naughty so careless even when he was younger his character was so adorable and daring and Fang Shaoyi character so charming and mature I love both of them

I really envy them for their relationship, even now after they back together I still feel so sad that they separate for a year, their relationship so sweet they born to complete each other

Spoiler

The F angst after the car accident was so unbearable my heart hurts AF and my tears won't stop the whole time

the only thought on Fang Shaoyi's mind before he had lost consciousness had been (Yuan Ye. What a mess. Little Monkey is going to be scared to death) reading this make me cry again

A very beautifully written kind of angst. I think this is a story about finding yourself, after losing one, while loving someone wholeheartedly. We all know that it's very easy to lose ourselves while loving someone too deeply, so this novel is about how to 'relove' yourself but not losing the one you love. It's about compromising a lot of things in order to maintain a solid and mature relationship. I love the writing style of the author, each and every word has a special meaning to deliver the character... more>> development. This is an intense but enjoyable love story I can reread for maybe another 3 more times. <<less

In my opinion, I think it is ok for MC to chase ML back because you know chaser is always the scum man in every novels. I'm happy that ML is not a scum. This novels is about the couples take a time to think about maintain their relationship.

But ML is not my cup of tea. I don't like the fact that he forced? MC to divorce. You know in real life, divorce is the end for both sides right? So I don't like that part of MC. I feel... more>> like he is controlling MC to become the result what he want. In real life, I really hate this type of guys like ml. You know marriage is a two way street. But it's ok. This is novel and we know that ML is not a scum and he also loves MC anyway. Moreover, he not do terrible things like cheating or abusing.I feel like this author want to write realistic but become unrealistic.

I'm not comparing but if you want a more realistic, heart warming and better version of this, you guys should try "Horror movie male lead's winter". <<less

The story and the name has no connection whatsoever but the character's are nice. The pace of the story is well maintained I love the realistic view the author took regarding relationships. It's a good read and the only reason I took one star off was for the name . I was looking forward to the connection but in the end I found out there was nothing extraordinary about it.

This was confusing for me at first because it was not very clear how they got separated and the way the story went, it felt like it was the seme's fault. This a good example of how a good relationship could fall apart because one partner lost his/her individuality. It's all right to dedicate yourself to your lover but never forget you are a person and you matter as well. All in all, this was a very good and a bit emotional read.

This is one of the best melodramatic novels I have read in my entire BL reading history..

i love how author wrote the angst the fluff...

it does gave me a view on how different is novel writing vs screen play writing... especially if you have novels you want to be adapted to live action..

i give kudos to the translator -

this is an interesting novel and worth your time reading.

A pretty good and unique read, something a little different from the others I have read so far. There was enough to kept me going, kept me wondering what made them divorce. Would be great if there are some illustration so I can visualise exactly how good looking the 2 main characters looks like. :3 would be even greater if the smutty scenes isn't merely just a mention! 😉 On another note, would love to read more on the last side story's CP (Geng Jinwei x Yang Siran) !!!

I honestly really enjoyed it. It just fits my cup of tea (but I'll admit my standards aren't heaven-level high). I just like the theme of separating & rekindling. That is, if done well. I've read my share of couples breaking up & getting back together in a plethora of garbo webnovels, but this one gives a sense of maturity (altho it still pales in comparison to that of Tattoo). My main gripe would be the flow of the story. It doesn't flow all that well & the fillers aren't... more>> appreciated for a reason. As a whole, I loved it & it's definitely a read that I would chance on more than once. <<less

A very mature realistic mature romance.

Started off a little bitter-sweet bcoz they were divorced, but later it was just a sweet story of pursuing the one you love. Beware of the sudden A N G S T ™ near the end but don't worry it's resolved. Really love this mature adult type of stories, really refreshing after constantly reading cute school-life stories. It dived a little into adult type of problems in love that we don't usually consider in a typical romance story. Definitely worth the read!
