Song Yu has three requirements for Yue Zhishi:

– You cannot call me gege in public.

– We won’t do anything together in public.

– You cannot let other people know you live with me.

Yue Zhishi has always been obediently following these rules. They were practically strangers at school. At the opening ceremony, he suddenly collapsed due to an allergy-related asthma attack, sending everything into chaos. At this moment, the student representative Song Yu suddenly stopped speaking…….

That night, a hot post appeared on the school forum.

【Shock!! Our junior high school department male idol and our senior high school department male idol are actually ‘brothers’!】

—————

Ever since his father brought back a mixed-race baby when he was six years old, Song Yu’s life has been completely entangled by this clingy little guy who couldn’t speak Chinese well.

Le Le who was in kindergarten: Xiao Yu gege, my classmate said today that he has a beautiful sister-in-law. What is a sister in law?
Song Yu: His older brother’s wife.
Le Le: No! I don’t want a sister-in-law!
Song Yu: ……
Le Le: I’ll be your sister-in-law! (Something isn’t quite right…….)
Song Yu: Please study up on Chinese familial relationships.
Le Le: Wait, wait. I’ll be my sister-in-law!
Song Yu: ……

Mouth says one thing but body does another, cat-like gong x mixed-race, obedient and straightforward puppy-like shou.

1. Childhood sweethearts with older gong. Slice of life (with some twists and turns), with a lot of scenes involving eating. Those who like fast-paced stories, be cautious.
2. Shou is in third year of junior high at the start of the story. There is no blood or legal relationship between the shou and the gong. Remember, they’re not under the same household registration book.
3. Gong spoils and dotes on shou. Very strong double sided arrow, essentially younger brother complex x older brother complex.
4. Cute shou, not strong shou.
5. There is a wlw side couple, not much scenes.
6. Please don’t read if you can’t take even a little bit of unexpected events. This is not solely a sweet fluffy novel.

CWs: light PTSD, talk of su*cide/self-harm, talk of death/dying, h*mophobia (from side characters). Please do not read if these make you uncomfortable.

3.5/5

I liked it a lot at first, but the writing started dragging after the main couple got together (around 60 chapters in). After the confession, the pacing is excruciatingly slow with lots of odd side-plots thrown in and repetitive jealousy episodes. Example of jarring filler plots: Yue Zhishi is a law student, but for some reason, there's a clothes designing and modeling competition that is about 15 chapters long which, uhhh, where did that even come from. The writing also became more childish near the end, and I have no... more>> clue why. The last 20ish chapters feel very juvenile, with the dialogue between characters and the drama being reminiscent of an overdramatic soap opera.

The novel was maybe 400k words long but it would have been much more interesting and palatable if it had cut the length in half considering most of it is filler.

I also wasn't a big fan of all the s*x scenes having BD*M but that didn't influence my score much. The ML becomes a sad*st during intimacy and I prefer MLs who stay caring the whole way through <<less

[goshh there is sooo many things I have to write, so many words I wanna say that I can't even decide from where I should start, lemme just start by saying it's an absolutely amazing story much, much different then I Innitialiy thought, u know we as the story slowly progress we can see le le figuring out his feelings being frightened then happy
le le:- is a complicated characters at the same time not so much he may at first appear to be like a ball of sunshine (nd he is!) But he still held many things in his heart, but since childhood without him even realizing it he has already deeply fell in love with his amazing gege, the story starts at him being fifteen still a teen nd ended at him being 19 far more mature and with his love, his Xiao yu gege
Xiao yu- that bit*h but I lovee him, he has suffered soo much my babie he is too restraint, he did his best to be le les older brother, trying to give le le all the love and guidness while selflessly hiding his real heart away, who knows when he actually fall for him but maybe just like he had said he had fell in love with him since the first time they had met, since he had been 6 at his fathers arm.
Can I say I also deeply fell in love with his parents I understood their heart, they really deserve the award of best parents in danmei!
I wanna give a shoutout to the side friends too! Jiang jiangs reaction to le les comin out was the best😭 and qi ans equal! They bothh deserve to be the MCs friends!
Now least but not last our amazing second couple 👏👏 I originally didn't like the gong from this couple because he was initially a love rival in the MCs life bu*t I couldn't hate him! And his little oneshot was soo cute! Xu lin is perfect for him 😏.
Now I wanna conclude his review by sharing my deepest thankus to the author for creating such an amazing and sweet story jiayou!.][/spoiler]

I love love looove this! Although im not an avid slowburn reader, I enjoyed the slow pace between their relationship a lot!!

The characters are beautifully written, from their thoughts, the way they speak and act. They showed how independent a character may be in most times needed and not just a "cute-ish" act all of the time.

My favorite scene in this novel is where ... more>>

the fashion show because the way MC described the theme was so deep and his analyzation and realization about things are so mature-like I love it so so so so much.

The novel itself is not that angsty and it definitely gave me those butterflies in my stomach—it made me giggle so much please! It touched my heart. 5/5 for me! <<less

I loved Fanservice Paradox, and this book was highly recced, so I read it. I didn't end up liking it that much. I liked the first half before the little timeskip, but felt like the book kind of fell flat after the CP got together. Like some other reviewers said, I felt the slice of life was a little too slow/boring at times. It was an ok read, but I probably wouldn't reread it.

Good story but the continuous mild angst made it hard to read in one go. But it still is a good read. Poor ML, he suffered a lot of heart ache throughout. Glad for the happy ending.

I don't like any of zhichus novels and I finally understand why. Her characters are so poorly written it's literally impossibly to empathize. The story is a drag, 30 chapters in and literally nothing happens. It's a waste of time. I've read slice of life stories with more plot in the first 5 chapters than this drab.

This isn't angst but I cried too much for this novel. Those last chapters especially.

Just let me say that no matter how the summary perceives it, there's not much dog blood in this story. The protagonists isn't even related in any form of blood nor legally. But they did grow up together as "brothers". I was just swept away with how sweet the first half of the story was that I was too driven by the emotions that came up in the second half.

Also, I want to say how dimensional... more>> MC and ML was. Their characters have lived up past my expectation for them, and they have growth too! Especially our little MC.

ML is going to my favorite tops, and definitely the best gege out there. I'm just so glad he's happy being together with MC now.

I think that despite all the tears I have poured out, enough for me to have big swollen eyes right now, this should be one of the most heartwarming and sweetest novel I've read. And the ending is definitely going to my top three!!

Deserving of a five star and more.

It might make you cry like rivers but it definitely will leave you happy and relaxed as the story ends, maybe even unwilling to part with them. I hope you just give this story a chance. <<less

Plot: 3/5
MC has wheat allergy which shows up briefly in the beginning of the story. ML grew up with him.

Overall thoughts:
Slow burn. Good reading. A bit boring since there is only romance.

Nice story. The ML and MC were blessed with a loving entourage though their lives weren't necessarily worry free. Their respective best friends were thoughtless at best.

It started to drag around the end. The extra chapters were tiring to read, had to skip some paragraphs.

I think this is my second review ever I don’t even remember my last review... but this story was so amazing I had just to leave one.

This story is so sweet and the slow burn is real!!

The Gong is the best and so sweet and allows MC to initiate things because he doesn’t want to pressure MC into doing something he doesn’t want to do.

Which is why MC is the one who confesses first (Which was so adorable)

Both the Gong and MC’s friends are the best and I hope you give this story a shot! <<less

Didn't read this novel, but I listened to the audio drama (currently episode 2). Super fluffy. Lele's voice is very cute and fluffy 🥰 Quite a few reviews stated that is boring, which I guess it's because the novel is slow pace. But the audio drama is really well made. Highly suggest the audio drama

A truly truly 5 star reading.

This novel sat for a long time on my to read list, but I was afraid of it being heart wrenching, luckily, for me, there was none of that. The story and the characters are fairly realistic, there's no over dramatization.

This is a happy ending story the begins and ends with their daily lives, I didn't felt particularly sad, but there's some bitterness and distress that comes from a youthful love.

The writing and translation are very good, is a little more than one hundred chapters... more>> and the chapters are long and the story is slow paced (but in no way boring), I think is best to read slowly, don't rush and read in one sit. <<less

Sweet and fluffy w/ slight angst. If there was one thing I didn't like, it was that they were so dependent on each other. I felt really bad for the parents because their love wasn't understood. I get it, it's a psychological problem, but I felt really bad for the mom.

Didn't leave a rating because I skipped a lot of chapters in this novel, so while I read until the end, I probably only really read less than half the story.

This is a slice of life novel and coming of age story centered around a romance between two foster siblings. The MC was taken in by the ML's parents when he was very young, because his birth parents died. The relationship between the MC and ML is borderline in*est, although not in the sense of blood relations. Not making any... more>> judgements (I generally have a high tolerance for 'taboo' subjects), but some people might be put off by this.

I'll explain: The MC never address his foster parents as 'mum' and 'dad' or consider them 100% his parents, nor do they legally adopt him. He's their foster son. But he does grow up with a sibling relationship with the ML and calls him 'brother/gege' (worth noting that calling someone 'gege' in Chinese isn't exclusively for siblings - it can also be a term of endearment and even flirtatious for non-related men whom you are close to).

The weird sort-of-but-not-quite-sibling relationship between the CP is the main cause of conflict (the ML falls in love with the MC early on and is aware of the iffy ethical implications). It was also something that didn't quite work for me. Probably because to me, growing up side by side with someone since very young (the MC is 3 years old when he's taken in by the family) is the equivalent of a sibling relationship, so the whole 'falling in love' part felt like psychological in*est. The author does try to show the implications of this and how the various characters react to it, but generally I feel this topic fits a darker story better, because it is ethically pretty grey territory no matter how thoughtfully and carefully the characters handle it. I feel that the MC would logically have had more problems accepting his own feelings for the person he basically thinks of as his older brother.

The rest of the story just didn't grip me, so I mainly read it for the romance. Unlike Fanservice Paradox, where the slow pace felt just right and the romance was developed in a way that felt convincing to me all the way, this story just felt bloated with too many unimportant scenes, which lead me to skip a lot (which I normally wouldn't do).

I wasn't a fan of the MC being so soft and sticky - I get that this was their dynamic, but it basically became a older brother-younger brother romance which then felt like actual in*est even though it wasn't. But maybe it's because I've gotten tired of reading danmei where the shou is portrayed as weak and submissive and the gong as cold and controlling.

The prose is good though, and it's overall not a bad story, but it does require some patience of the reader. <<less

I was hesitant to read this novel at the start because of the "brother" relationship between the MC and ML but I was very pleasantly surprised by how the author addressed this topic sensitively. This is a slow burn but ultimately a beautiful love story,

I just finished reading this novel and I really enjoyed it. It's a slow story and I lik that cuz it feels like you get to know the characters more.

Love the parents and their friends.

I wonder if it's really possible to live someone so much in real life.

It was so worth it. I'm so glad sticking until the very end. The novel was beautifully written and translated perfectly, I shed a few bucket of tears, loved the development. Someone who's into slow burn romance would love the pacing of the story. It wasn't rushed, it wasn't done just to satisfy the readers' needs. It was on a league of its own. Kudos to the author and the translation team. It's my first time leaving a review to a novel after reading it because I was amazed with... more>> everything. Thank you so much for translating it! <<less

❤️❤️❤️

My first slice of life novel! This story introduced me to the world of Chinese BL novels and raised my standards in terms of plot, characters, dialogues, and translation.

I liked the main couple, especially their closeness from the start that created an ambiguous atmosphere between them as they got older. I am not a fan of slow-burns, but this made the burn bearable for me HAHA.

... more>> I also liked the secondary couples!! The lesbians and the gays!! ❤️ (I can’t remember if there were straights ✌︎)

After many novels, I still haven’t find a sadistic gong and a natural submissive shou who are very sweet in public like Song Yu and Yue Zhishi ಥ_ಥ Truly one of my standards! ≪3 <<less
