Xiao YuAn: “Don’t abuse the Male Lead ever again!!! You guys aren’t afraid of death, but I want to live!!!”

A story that starts out with the Shou taking care of the Gong, and then, the Gong takes care of the Shou.

I've only read a few chapters, but I've already gotten attached to the MC. He's hilarious, lovable and also really tragic.

Spoiler

Not living up to his family's expectations, having nobody to love, being diagnosed with cancer in the prime of his life- the list goes on. There's also hints of him being apathetic and suicidal before his transmigration. It's written in a silly way that makes it seem like only the author poking fun at cliches, but I'm guessing it'll be expanded upon in future chapters.

Spoiler

So far, the plot seems to bear a resemblance to Scum Villain, one of my favorite novels. A sickly person reads an infuriating harem novel before dying, then transmigrating into a villain who currently has power over the ML.

The ML has already been treated badly due to the original's actions, so the MC tries to salvage the situation because he knows the ML will become OP and exact revenge on everyone who has ever wronged him, including the MC.

This novel is really angsty as heck, although it has its funny and fluffy parts, the nice parts dont last long before the angst strikes. The main couple has a lot of miscommunication which leads them to seperating. This novel is good if you like the long novels with a balanced plot and romance and especially if you like angst

4 stars!

Finished this quite a long time ago but realised I didn't leave a rating or review.

I liked the plot and story and progress but didn't like the last bit hence the cutting of one star. There's some really interesting plot twists in the book that kept things interesting.

If I remember correctly, since it's been a while. At the very end they actually come out of the book back to reality. I just feel like there's too many loose ends with that kind of ending. Like forging an identity for someone who technically doesn't exist, explaining modern technology etc etc. Just too much ??? To be wrapped up. It was also VERY jarring since majority of the book happened in the historical setting. But it's a HE so not complaining.

Overall interesting enough to retain my attention till the very end. <<less

starts okay with good humor, but it drags A LOT until around ch70 and then the melodrama plotlines aren’t even very good... I’m not sure why it seems to be so popular, I’m really not a fan. I ended up skimming a lot towards the end just so I could see what would happen. “Where is Our Agreement to be Each Other’s Arch-Rivals?” is a book with a similar premise that pulls it off a lot better.

I should've paid more attention to the comment that said the tragedy here was not to be underestimated. I just noticed the comedy and drama tag and was convinced that this was going to be a light-hearted read. And it was, for like the first 60 or so chapters, even though it had some heavy themes, it still made me laugh, blush or smile with every turn of the page, hence why the tragedies that occurred hit me hard.

The main couple has to be among my top 3 Danmei couples... more>> ever. The development of their romance, from strangers wary of the other's intentions to revolutionary friends to lovers was such an amazing ride. Interspersed with many twists and turns, ups and downs, and misunderstandings; I have to say that from an omniscient view as readers, the misunderstandings seem outrageous, but if you look at it from either the MC's or ML's view, they're not unexpected.

This novel is not centred on the plot but rather focuses on the relationships between each character; between the main couple, between the MC and/ or the ML with the side characters, and between the side characters. Each relationship was full-fledged and each character left a mark in my heart. The ones that we loved, hated or had mixed feelings about; the ones that made us cry, the ones that made us want to rip out our hairs in anger and the ones that made us laugh. All of these accumulated into what makes this novel so great.

The writing is so descriptive, poetic and immersive. It draws you in and makes you feel like you're walking with each character as they go through life; it's amazing. This is not a book that makes it easy for you to drop it.

I have to say, I've not enjoyed extra chapters of a novel as I did the ones in this novel; one minute I'm laughing, and the next I'm in tears.

I'm absolutely in love with this novel and will 100% recommend it. <<less

Ok Listen, guys, If you are contemplating whether to read it or not, due to all the mixed reviews, Let me help you decide.... READ IT AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I am on the 70th Chapter, and I know I am not even halfway through the book, but trust me when I say that this is ONE OF THE BEST BL NOVELS I have read so far. And believe me, I have read almost all the good ones that have been translated so far.

I went into this with... more>> a skeptical mind, coz of some of the negative comments. But it got me hooked from the first chapter. And it just kept getting better and better. At first, you would think this is going to be a light-hearted comedy, but as the story develops, it takes you through an emotional rollercoaster. The character development is unparalleled and even the storylines of the side characters are entertaining.

I was hesitant to give a review coz, English is not my first language, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the point across. But as a reader of the novel, I felt like I must bring justice to this novel and let everyone know how good it is.

So stop thinking too much and go ahead and read it. I'm sure you will love it as much as I did. <<less

It's very... Medium? The writing is not exceptional and the storytelling is very obvious, very standard. There is no rich inner life to discover inside the characters, and the different humourist gimmicks fell flat and they are often forgotten and then fished out for a chapter and once again forgotten.

It's not bad, but it's not /good/. It's a kinda okay mindless read.

Great story. It was very light hearted and funny but there was a point where the mood shifts and the plot completely takes over. I was not expecting that so I was very pleasantly surprised. It’s been a long time since a story made me shed tears. Very well written. Kudos to the translation too.

I LOVED IT.

this was beautifully written, it made me happy, angry, sad. The MC, ML and side characters were all well written. (though MC's fixation on matchmaking ML was a little annoying but I can understand him) . I especially like how the side characters got the endings they deserved. Over all I like it. If you are looking for a slow burn, misunderstanding plot, with buckets of angst and a happy ending then this is for you

BEAUTIFUL!

this was a ride, you laugh a lot and then, bam! The angst and tears won't stop. The MC it's your typical oblivious ray of sunshine while the ML is the complete opposite, just perfect.

Like I said, starts easy and then it gets darker but in an angsty way, MC really tries to fix things and help everyone and the ML understands him, and even tries to help him. A cute story really worth your time.

Honestly I dropped the novel like 10 - 20 chapters in because I didn't like how fawning the MC was towards the ML and how he just wanted to watch the plot blablabla and also because I just wasn't in the mood for it. But I picked it back up because people in my FB BL GC were pushing this novel and I was pleasantly surprised.

TBH, the novel is not plotty or politicaly nor is it romancy. It's.... Slice of life with an ongoing plot with a dash of drama... more>> and misunderstandings.

Imma just summarise the whole thing here
Spoiler

MC spoils ML because he don't wanna get a too bad ending and also pushes him to the ML's love interest (s) in the novel. ML falls in love of course. MC is the silly dumb and naive one who didn't understand that the ML has a thing for him and his wants everything to be peaceful and harmonious. MC got a reality check when his trusted maid dies protecting him, making him realise how part of the world he is in this world and that he is no longer an outsider looking in. So, he slowly tries to get his country back on track and cut ties with the ML. War. MC lost and surrenders. ML under schemes to push apart the ML and MC. MC escapes and ML caught up but they parted ways with a misunderstanding that the other party don't like them. MC leads a peaceful life in a village and learnt the art of healing while saving injured soldiers and ML is on a on the path of revenge against the East who rampage their country when it was at it weakest. ML and MC reunites when the ML was injured and the MC (who became a healer) saved him by pretending to be the ML's 3rd love interest in the novel. In the end, they resloved the misunderstanding and reunited. MC represented his sifu to help the ML'a army as a doctor. Was found out and at the same time a traitor leaked military secret which resulted in the "death" of the emperor aka the ML and pushed the blame onto the MC. MC escaped and flush the ML. Was tortured to distract the enemies and was rescued by the soldiers he saved before and sent back to the peaceful village. He was saved then the ML who was victorious came back to him. Brought him back and wanted to crown him empress but another bad thing happened and the ML's uncle forced him to commit su*cide. Was retransmigrated as the West's monarch of the same name who sent himself to the ML as a concubine of sorts in exchange for military support for his country. ML was grieving and hated the person. MC tried to get his attention and was almost killed several times but in the end succeed. They reunited and lovey dovey. Helped stop a rebellion. United with the Western country by marriage. Made the MC the empress and lived happily every after.

[collapse]

There were also amazing side stories where the dead had their happy endings which I LOVED!

The MC is the typical silly sweet naive with a splash of quirky and a tendency to "play the hero". While the ML, he's the cold stubborn type but because he has lost the MC too many times, he is super insecure. I loved both their characters development

This novel has a splash of angst and honestly so many grey areas. No one is fully good or bad. SIGH. Different from the comedic undertone that the novel started off with (which was AMAZING). Thoroughly an enjoyable read that I would recommend. <<less

I FINISHED THIS NOVEL!!!

i wanted to get back from my reader block and I picked this up. BEST DECISION EVER !

short summary: Xiao Yuan transmigrated into a horrible emperor that was a piece of shit

... more>> he decides he won't go through that path and will work hard to survive as the "villain" (he never acted like it, he just happened to have the body of a villain)

and people loved him! So many things changed thanks to him! His country became prosperous

but he just couldn't realize that the ML was in love with him ;;A;;

ths pace of the novel was perfect for me, nothing got dragged on more than necessary, things got resolved pretty quickly, the angst made me cry, the fluff made me happy. All in all I loved every single thing about this story

SPECIALLY THE SIDE CHARACTERS!!!

Spoiler

WE GOT LESBIANS!! CANONICAL LESBIANS!!! THAT WAS f*ckING AWESOME! Live laugh love yongning and pingyang 👑

and the side couple of lya and xfy was so adorable

xcg and lwd had a very sad story with bittersweet ending in every lifetime 😭 but still, their love can't be broken

The Path of the Cannon Fodder’s Counterattack, I couldn't finish reading other novels. I cant find the novel that makes my heart feel content. I keep searching best BL novels but nothing can attract me to read till the end. After such a long time, I found this. I actually like the story line and characters. This is happy ending but there are many parts... more>> which make my heart broken. War, fallen of the Emperors, powerlessness to protect the one you loved, forever parting with the loved ones, these things really break my heart. Anyway, Special Thanks to the writer of this fantastic novel and translators. <<less

one thing about me is that I'm a sucker for slow burn, and if the right conditions are met, I'm willing to accept any lousy excuse the author gives me for making the wait for the main cp to get together way longer than necessary. Obliviousness, misunderstanding, both-sided pining- anything that makes the slow burn even slower- i'll take it. Add to that just a dash of ridiculousness and genuinity and I'm sold. Htsav offered me all of this but also, surprisingly, much more, and I found myself honestly enjoying... more>> it. Sure, it has its flaws, but it also has a whole lot of heart, and I'm willing to give credit where credit is due.

htsav is a novel that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry, and it doesn't always make the cleanest transition between the two. It's a bit messy and very loveable, with a fun cast of characters (gays! Gays everywhere you look!!), a sweet main cp and a plot that doesn't hesitate to rip your heart out right after giving you a good chuckle. Htsav shows a lot of potential and leaves you a bit disappointed where it doesn't quite fulfill it, but it is quick to console you and make a good bargain by offering you the best of what it actually has.

controversially, I think the MC really is one of the best things about this novel. xiao yu'an is a ditzy noob transmigrator- ex-'tyrannical' president- who's just trying not to waste his second chance at life. He's as cute as he is dumb, but unfortunately for him, his new identity is not protected by the protagonist halo, and he meets his fair share of suffering before he can have his happy ending. Armed with nothing but a pretty smile, good intentions, and hilarious quotes from communists and tyrannical presidents, he muddles through this new world he ended up in, making friends, losing battles, and greatly confusing a certain prince. He saves the ml, yan heqing, from a desperate situation and shows him such genuine care that it's impossible for the ex-protag not to fall in love. Poor yhq really can't get away from his predestined tragic-ness though, and xya does unwittingly make him suffer a lot, but he's never really an as*hole for it, even though we're shown how ruthless he can be when he means it. Their story has a lot of ups and downs but I'm glad to tell you that the romance itself is as sweet as it gets and it is a big and relevant part of the novel.

the plot itself isn't anything revolutionary- the war setting is prevalent but there's not much scheming and strategies and it's more just yhq conquering the land the same way he did in the original book. Though some antagonists occur, it's really nothing you'll be losing sleep over. What really makes this book good are the characters: xya's appearance changes not only the fate of yhq, but also multiple side characters. He makes bonds with many people around him and learns of how misunderstood they were in the original book, and even manages to help many of them get their happy endings. We get not one but two side-couples: a wlw one that made me especially happy, as well as another mlm one, and we also get one heartbreaking story that only gets the chance it deserved in the extras. I love that the author didn't shy away from giving side characters their own motivations and personalities, and that people don't just flock to MC for no reason: he really does give them all a reason to fight for him too and to want him in their lives, but they still have their own lives to live.

hsav was truly a hidden gem! For a story I didn't expect much from, it really gave me a lot to enjoy, and it's become something I could even recommend to others. (Even if you're not up for reading it, you could give the finished and fully translated manhwa a chance!) its biggest flaw was probably the ever-switching comedic/tragic tone, but somehow, I didn't even mind that all too much: it made sense for a narrator from the modern world to be a bit detached from the ancient, fictional world he transmigrated to, and xya's thoughts were a small comfort in the moments where everything else got a bit too serious. So if all this is something that sounds interesting to you, i'd say give it a shot and join xya for this messy transmigration ride!

tw/cw for su*cide (more details below)

Spoiler

MC commits su*cide in the beginning and transmigrates after that, he does it once more later on in the book and comes back again; another three named side characters (one of which isn't too relevant) kill themselves in different ways, and they don't come back to life but they do appear in the extras

[collapse]

and some more spoiler-heavy impressions:

Spoiler

I'm not really experienced when it comes to transmigration novels so idk if this is something the fans of this genre would agree with, but I liked seeing xya stumble around the role he had been given because he was Not conveniently skilled and talented enough to thrive in this new setting (or bc the emperor was simply destined to lose), and I liked that we could see him struggling to see himself as a part of the new world and not as an outsider (down to the fact that in the narration, he was always referred to by his own name and never as the emperor/zhou yu). Even telling yhq about his identity so early on only makes me like him more, I just wish yhq wasn't the only one he shared this with but I wasn't really expecting more tbh

also I don't think a side character's story has ever made me as sad as xie chungui's did; the scenes where he wanders the battlefield full of his fallen comrades and later on when he lies crying in the coffin next to his dead family absolutely shattered my heart, that poor boy deserved so much better

Okay, first off, I'd like to say that this story was wonderfully written. It made me sob genuine tears many times, and I really felt that the MC was realistic. I see a lot of reviews saying that they didn't like the MC, but I really liked his character. The imagery was fantastic, and despite me having a small imagination, every scene left me immersed to the point I could hardly look away. Plenty of dog food, and it knew how to balance the heart-wrenching angst with the lighter, more... more>> comedic bits.

On the romance, it checked all my boxes. All the troped I enjoy, lots of chemistry, and it left me giggling and kicking my feet for these two. I was especially happy with the side couple- very rarely are wlw/lesbian relationships even canon, let alone well fleshed out.

After all this praise, there is a MAJOR problem I have with this novel. For those not wanting spoilers, suffice it to say that the ending was disappointing. Instead of developing a character and helping them work through trauma, the author throws in a half-effort solution that left me upset. I couldn't bring myself to finish the last few chapters because of it.

Delving into spoiler territory:

[collapse]

So, yeah. I really really recommend reading through the majority of this wonderful novel. Though the ending really upset me, and left me feeling let down, its not to say that you shouldn't read it. I don't think the ending makes my opinion of the rest of the novel any worse- I just wish it could live up to my expectations. My advice is to read most of the way through, and drop it right before the ending becomes lackluster. <<less

if you loved svsss you'll most likely love this novel. I really don't want this comparison to be seen as a negative thing but the MC and ML dynamic is very LQG/SQQ.

i finished this novel a few months ago and every once in a while I will think about it. it's one of my absolute favorites.

my gosh, I love the characters so much. MC has great character development. despite this being a transmigrator novel, there is no "System". however, MC begins the story by regarding everyone around him as a... more>> fictional character and nothing more. omg. the character development as he slowly befriends his maid and realizes they're all real people and deserve to be treated as such. ML is one of my favorite male leads... ever. the way MC and ML met will always have me rofl.

i read some reviews that criticized the way MC acted, but I actually think his personality is quite lovable to me. from the start, he's a bit clueless, doesn't care much about "fitting into his role"-- but hey, he's the emperor, no one questions him. he doesn't want to die, but he's also self sacrificing. a lot of the angst happens because ML is desperately trying to keep MC close to keep him safe without scaring him away and MC misunderstanding. there are definitely times when you get frustrated with the MC, but for me, it was a "oh no please don't" frustration, not "that was so s*upid" frustration.

that village arc KILLED me. I absolutely love when novels use unconventional or rare tropes and I can't say i've ever read of the

This is the 3rd story I've written a long review for on here (and I've read many) the first two were hidden gems that just like this story people didn't get ahead before dropping and reviewing. As some people in the reviews have already said make sure to get to chapter 60+ because that's really when this story starts, it seems very easygoing at first and the MC a little too laidback but by a point you'll come to love and understand him and this story, the ML is amazing... more>> too. This is honestly an extremely angsty but funny story and I don't how the author did it but they did. This novel.. It makes the voice in my head that reads the novel for me work overtime. With all that exclamations and tones.

This MC is so cute. He tries and fails to use the tyrannical president dialogues to subdue the ML and pulls out all of the dog blood novel plots he read. In his little head the ML is his pampered lil wife. And the next second he’s pinned begging for mercy. Lmfao.

And this book concluding all the tidbits. Wrapped it up wonderfully.

Really painful to read in some parts (I cried a bit) but worthwhile. This is one of those stories that really feels like an epic tale. The main character...., both the male lead and I felt mad at him for disregarding his health and safety so many times. But this is a good story. I was wondering why it felt familiar and realized it was because I had read a portion of the webcomic first. The webcomic and the webnovel are pretty much identical, but I thought reading the webnovel... more>> was much more satisfying. <<less
