FOG

Yu Sui and Shi Luo met each other when they were much younger. One was a pro-gamer, a widely-renowned, best of the best, in-game medic. The other was an e-sports newcomer who was just starting out. The two originally played for the same team, during which their relationship became increasingly deep.

But things did not go as expected. Yu Sui went to Europe and Shi Luo changed his in-game job to become a striker. The two belonged to different teams and different divisions, with oceans between them, each doing wonderfully …

They had become two tigers on separate mountains. The last thing anyone expected was for Yu Sui to return to the domestic league two years later. There was no way to avoid it and the two met once again.

I normally tend to pick up historical/fantasy setting books in this genre, but wow this one is super good. I especially love it when modern settings don't use h*mophobia as a plot device, which FOG doesn't. The characters are well developed, the romance is very very very sweet and made me feel single af even though I haven't been for a super long time. The translation is also outstanding.

I like reading game novels. The story has a different element in game. FOG game consists only 4 members. At first 30 chapters there will be dogblood drama. The couple has been separated for 2 yrs. There will be the past story. It's heartwrenching to what happened to our main Fog team. ML sacrificed a lot especially he's only 19 yrs old that time. You can also be kinda frustrated at how naive the MC is in the past= he's young and his family also contributed to his personality. I... more>> am just happy that they were finally reunited and founded their team. And yes esports, all about the glory of China which were always the case with these kind of novels. It's good that villains got their just desert. There are also who turned for the better (the one MC got a fight with) Finally the truth has been revealed on why ML have to go abroad

MC is not the cute lil bunny type. He's a pretty lil schemer which is known to the ML. ML dotes on MC and accepts on who he is. He's their to support him and you can see how the ML matured. MC also complements ML. It's a give and take relationship. The novel is more on their Reunion and fighting the European team. That's more the focus. <<less

Holy cow, this was one hell of a ride.

If you're hesitant with gaming or e-sport novels like me, I suggest you read this. not that it could help but ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

Anyway, I highly recommend FOG. Seriously, this is such a good read.

Admittedly, I somehow kinda dropped this for 2 weeks around Chapter 115, it was getting kinda draggy for me. If that comment makes you doubt please don't cause I seriously hate myself right now for not reading it all in one go. I just finished this today, and... more>> I have never been so satisfied. Reason as to why I dropped it,

Spoiler
 • Preparations for their big match in the championship, at this point I already knew that the author was going to end the novel with them winning against their rival/enemy/other team
 • Although Shi Luo's (mc/shou) diary love entries in his side account were cute... I just wanted to see more romance, but eh thats just me :D the story is good overall
 • I wanted to read another novel that was romance-centric.............. ha ha
[collapse]

Anyway, this is a really good novel. I can't say that its good for beginners, or maybe I can since the game was understandable and very fun! I even wished that a game like FOG existed. I don't wanna say much that would spoil other potential readers, if you want a good amount of angst, fluff, romance, comedy, healthy relationships haha, and gaming. This is for you. The ML is really sweet, he's such a well-written character. The MC is ADORABLE and a little snarky. The side characters are all so charming and funny, I love their relationships with each other. The development between the characters and the story was amazing, its filled with heartwarming moments either between the main CP or within their teams.

Well, I've always had doubts reading e-sports novels because of all the gaming terms and techniques especially with this one since it was a game created by the author, and it also had more than a hundred chapters, that was already a lot for me. But don't let that get to you! As the other reviews said, this was the type that would make you feel empty after reading. I loved the ending, to sum it up I love the novel. I also got artbaited, but this was so worth it.

A man like the ML please!!! T__T <<less

Another gaming story! I really can't seem to get enough of them!

This story was extremely enjoyable to read, although if I am being honest, what made it so enjoyable was the completely shameless ML, and the trying to be tsundere, but is actually a cry baby MC. In fact the only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of five starts to this novel is becuase while I completely loved all the characters in the story, and especially loved the relationship between the MC and ML, the actual gaming portion... more>> of the story was a bit weak.

Yes, yes, you are absolutely allowed to write a gaming story that is not focused on gaming and instead focused on the stories of the people playing games, however, there are a lot of "detailed" game descriptions throughout the story, where you are walking through the game with them step by step. I put detailed in quotes, because honestly after the first one or two times, you feel like you are reading the same game description over and over. The game doesn't have that much to it, and the number of players isn't high, so really there are only so many things that can be done.

Spoiler

The game descriptions of the quarter finals in the World Championship where they trounce the German team are probably the only ones that didn't have me skimming the paragraphs.

[collapse]

With all of that being said though, I am still completely satisified with the love story that I have decided to think of this as. I do believe the author probably intended to focus more on the people, and every aspect of that part of the story was awesome! I'm not the author, so I don't know, but I feel like they definitely put the time and love into their character development. So even if the gaming is a bit weak, the characters and their storylines completely make up for it!

I'm happy I found this novel and gave it a chance!

Spoiler

Side Note: There is no NSFW in this story. A few kissing scenes and some very vague, well maybe not exactly vague implications, but nothing crazy. You can decide if it's a good or bad thing.

Yu Sui x Shi Luo 4EVER!!!!

From the start until middle story there are tragedy but after the tragedy, sugar came so sudden that I almost cried

About the tragedy ... more>>
Spoiler

It's about when YS go to Europe. There is some misunderstanding because YS didn't exactly tell SL why he need to transfer to Europe and why SL can't join YS. YS tranfer to Europe made his fans disappointed cause they think he betrayed China E-sport (BUT THE TRUTH IS NOT THAT!!!)

[collapse]

Then there is this drama from Europe E-sport team
Spoiler

in this novel, the Europe E-sport (especially YS former team) is too arrogant. They taunt YS, SL and their other China e-sport team. I'm burning from anger when I read that exact chapters!!!! Very mad!!!

[collapse]

It's unbelievably annoying and heart breaking in the process of reading this novel but the aftermath (the end to be exact) is so satisfying and I always feel that YS's former team (the Europe one) deserved that!!! <<less

Idk how to feel about this book. I'm still waiting til 40 to decide to continue or not.

but. I need to know. This seems like a HUGE plothole. Can someone tell me if it is legal to have a minor sign a contract in china by himself? Bc I'm pretty sure he's more than 2 yrs younger than ML'S 19 at that time.

This novel is basically overly realistic in a pretty cynical way. I'm sure it's true and realistic but not particularly healing to read.

The CP is love!!!!

When I found this novel, I didn't expect it will be this good. FOG has everything I had hoped for BL novel. It has a nice built up story, one of a kind romance, unique main characters, interesting side characters and blood pumping climax.

My thoughts for the CP: ... more>>
Spoiler

Wow. I just adore Yu Sui and Shi Luo a lot. I do. They deserve to be happy together. And one more thing, the writer has successfully increase my level of affection for these two when they got together. I used to encounter many CP who lost the charm when the chasing is done. But not our twin stars. They will make you squelling so hard with how much a cutie pie they are.

Main characters:
Spoiler

MC has a rough childhood with a twisted family. He acts distance. But then comes ML, who dotes on him. He looks like a child full of wonder. He is facinated from the care he receives with ML. ML has enchanted him with his kindness as he is the first person who sincerely cares from him. That's why ML's decision is like the sky falls down. He feels betrayed. He feels bitter. He feels... lost. And what surprise me, MC is the possessive one. Haha, finally. I'm getting tired with possessive ML.

[collapse]

Spoiler

ML, Yu Sui, you deserve the world. He has faced so many unfair situation. He is so selfless. He will protect his love ones until the bitter end. And I'm so glad he never gives up even when he feels hopeless. It is thanks to him he, MC and his teamates could reunite. Truly an admirable one. And I disagree with the fans comunity who brand him as 'Slag Man' lol. There is no slag man. There is only a faithful and doting lover.

Side characters:
Spoiler

Man, Free's personnel and other national teams has made this novel more colorful. You will get invested with them as the story goes.

This novel is highly recommended. But beware of angst (which is worth it) and easy read of the gaming scene. The e sport is still enjoyable but it is not heavily detailed like Glory. <<less

I LOVE the story. I LOVE the characters. Yu Sui probably the top 3 best ML in danmei world, and I've read so many. He's such a warm, gentle, attentive, and well-spoken person. Maybe I'm just getting bored with stoic, cold, wordless ML, so he's such a fresh wind, hahahaa.

The story set in pro e-sport world but it's not went that deep in technical aspect.

It starts with angst. I really want to hug our MC, Shi Luo, our fierce and cute baby.
After around chapter 25, I also want to hug our ML so bad, Yu Sui, our lovely and considerate gege.
I actually cried a bit reading all the back story, huhuu.. I cannot bear to see the MC and ML struggling. Both of them suffer a lot.

After that, the story gradually brightened in the present time, the comedy also kicks in, and the ROMANCE is soooo fluffy. I also adore their bond as a whole team, they're one big family. Puppy is love.

It's a type of light story which you can't bear to put aside and feels empty once it's end.

PS: If you interested with more technical danmei, then I would like to recommend God Level Summoner. The e-sport match is more detailed and interesting, but it has less romance..

Great pacing, excellent read overall, stayed up to about 7 am on the weekend (haha), couldn't put it down.

I'm a huge fan of gaming-style novels and the way this one was written definitely gave me huge [The King's Avatar] vibes -- a big plus if you were looking for a gay version of TKA.

The game in this case is called FOG. It's a FPS style game with 4 people teams and might be based on a Eastern FPS exclusive to China. I'm no expert on FPS (having only played Valorant,... more>> CS, and OW before), but the poisonous fog and 4-people teams in the game didn't sound like any of those.

One of the biggest draws of the novel is the excellently written tension.

 • The MC and ML start off with deep history and appear to be archenemies on the surface. I have a huge bias for this kind of interaction so I greatly enjoyed.
The supporting cast and "team" feeling was very strong. Really enjoyable for everyone in the new team to have such engaging interactions. This story didn't just revolve around MC and ML, but also the trials of the new team.

Some weaknesses in the story:

 • Some parts could have benefited from more conciseness from the author. The emotional moments with the players frequently felt over-emphasized. Lots of people cry frequently or get extremely emotional. Furthermore, these moments are drawn out too much with multiple sentences explaining every second, so they feel extra exaggerated. After awhile, it became more tiring and repetitive to read.
 • There aren't any pithy oneliners because they end up being over-explained instead of letting the readers feel the impact of the lines on their own.
Overall translation was pretty good, though I spotted a couple slang and gaming terms that could have been better translated:

Spoiler

A few common ones I recalled off the top of my head:

blood => health/HP

double row => duo queue

 • This one especially appeared multiple times. In competitive team-based games, players can either join ranked games as a solo player (solo queue), two-player team (duo queue), or full premade team.

nonsense => no shit or obviously

baobei/baobao => babe/baby

 • Sorry but Western came first, influencing their CN counterparts almost as loan words. Same as CN "me-me-da" being loan word of Western "muah"

Omg one of the veerrry best ML's I have ever read about. The most understanding, loving, romantic, silly everything. I absolutely love Yu Sui so much. This novel has some of the most romantic and fluffiest CP scenes all because of Yu Sui being in it. I just got done reading this and I'm crying. One of the most satisfying ending for me anyways. Highly recommend this novel.

The writer is very good at playing with emotion. The story started very angsty and intense. Fortunately it wasn't dragged too much as the truth about their painful past was immediately revealed. After that, it was mostly sweet and fluffy.
The story was beautifully written with hidden details. If you re-read it, you'll notice that a simple sentense such as "Shi Luo put on his headphones" in the earlier chapter carry a whole different meaning 。゚ (゚இωஇ゚) ゚。
Both MC and ML weren't perfect, they've made mistake. But the things that they did for each other was very touching. ML is a highly skilled slag man while MC is the best 'gap moe' character I've ever read. ♡ (*≫ω<) ω<*) ギュ~ッ♡

Changed my rating to 1 because of the similar xenophobic behavior done by the Chinese people recently.

4.7 rounded to 5

To be fair, the first 20 chapters were hard to read for me because of author's vague writing. Am I supposed to hate the ML? Am I supposed to root for him? Forgive him? Why is the MC so easy man? Wasn't he supposed to hate the ML but ML doesn't even have to beckon yet MC'S already runnin to his embrace???

Welp turn out MC is a Tsundere who's already been K. Oed to death by ML and ofc ML is the Goodboi of em all.

I really like this novel. As they say, this is slightly different from other e-sports novels. Instead of a light read, this aims for a more serious approach, with a bit of angst and comedy. (Secondhand embarassment is real.)

The game (FOG) was portrayed vividly—the explanations aren't confusing at all so anyone who's unfamiliar to the game can follow. Also, it stayed true to the e-sports tag. There's a balance between romance and gaming department. A lot of flashbacks, but it's a necessary fill. (But honestly, compared to 'Through the Strait Gates' [not an e-sports] which took up almost the entire story for flashbacks, this is considered just the right amount.)

PLOT

The ML and MC has a past involvement. They were once on the same team, but something happened... more>> that caused them to drift apart. The ML joined in another foreign team overseas, in which, it caused him to be hated by everyone in the domestic scene. The people also believed that the MC and ML were estranged and that they are inexplicably on bad terms. 2 years later, the ML returned to the country. Their paths are about to cross once more—and there's actually more to the story than what it seems.

CHARACTERS

First of all, I'd like to say I very much like the ML. He was neither perfect nor saint. He's FLAWED, which made him seems... MORE REAL. He has a laid-back attitude and he wouldn't always say the right thing unlike your typical hero.
Spoiler

A snippet from Chapter 13

"I won't help my dad to fight for a share of the will."

Yu Sui looked quietly at Shi Luo. "So you dropped out?"

"Yes."

Yu Sui looked at Shi Luo with a smile on his face and an unlit cigarette between his lips.

Were it someone else, they would have perhaps earnestly persuaded Shi Luo to not sabotage himself for the sake of some momentary satisfaction.

But the person before him had been Yu Sui.

At that time, Yu Sui simply said, "Your choice, your freedom."

His future was his own.

... It wasn't Yu Sui's place to forgive anyone for the wrongs Shi Luo had suffered.

*When MC admitted that he tried manipulating ML, ML didn't get angry. In fact, he didn't care.

As qouted from Chapter 51—Yu Sui said, "I'm not the kind of straight man who doesn't know when I'm being made the subject of some scheme."

To him, there's no such thing as schemes/manipulation if the one on the receiving end is aware and more than willing. It is not to be said that THESE are TRIFLE matters, but this principle is only IN ACCORDANCE to ML's character.

[collapse]

If there's anything I don't like with the ML, perhaps it's when he's indulging the MC too much to the point he doesn't want MC to change and fix some of his... bad points. Is this what you call embracing all your partner's flaws? Lol. But just as I said, he's neither particularly good nor particularly bad.

ML can also be selfless, but not to the point where he thinks he's a hero working in the shadows. He tells what needed to be told, and not give you some lame excuses like, "I kept it a secret to protect all of you". Nope, ML comes clean and don't leave room for misunderstandings. Although he made some reckless decisions which quite reflected his young age.
Spoiler

When their old club faced a crisis, ML took care of all the problem. There could be other ways, but he decided to take the most reckless path. BUT that's explainable because he was just 19 at the time. Young people can indeed be wishful sometimes. They think they can take upon all kinds of problems.

[collapse]

What I'm gonna say next might be a little bias, but please don't let this keep you from reading the novel itself. I trust you have your own judgement.

I don't like the MC sometimes. He can be very stubborn, especially when he's acting up. He has explosive temper, which is a hindrance for his professional career. Everytime, he needs the ML to pacify him before and after the match. The ML became his babysitter towards the end.

I also didn't like how he played the victim card in the beginning.
Spoiler

During the first half, he treated as if the mere mention of the ML's name is a taboo. He made it seem like the ML owed him something BIG. But in fact, they had no old accounts to settle. I could understand that the MC lacked parental care as a child, so when ML showed him A LOT of warmth, he became dependent to him. He was just 17 when they separated, so he was deeply hurt. BUT. 2 years later, I expected for character growth. As someone who loves the ML, he should've been the one who understood ML's situation better. He should've tried better to understand his sufferings too, not just his. The MC is supposed to be really smart, but he has a very LOW EQ. He can perfectly discern other people's intention with logic, but when it came to ML, he refuses to. It became a stark contrast to his character... perhaps it's what they say that intelligent people are a fool when in love. But the MC is not s*upid, he's just really stubborn. He refuses other people's help, and he refuses to let go. For the sake of the consistency of the character, I think the author did really well on that area. I just wished, the author focused more on the character development, as there is actually A LOT of room for the MC's potential growth.

[collapse]

But these are just my few misgivings to the story. Putting it all aside, I really liked it. The side characters are also likeable and some are just SO-SO, not everybody is an evil villain, everyone more or less changed or faced retribution on their own accord.
Spoiler

except for that one team who plays dirty

[collapse]
The romance is slow burn, but it's already there, just suspended in mid-air. There are just right amount of drama and BE WARNED OF SECONDHAND EMBARASSMENT!! 😂 You will have to put down your phone and wait until the shame worn out, but trust me, YOU WILL LOVE IT! 🙈

All in all, I really enjoyed it. 4/5. Truly recommended! It's worth the read. 😊

i first stumbled across the raws and read it by mtl sometime ago.

yesterday, I stumbled across the chrysanthemum garden content list and was delighted to find that someone has started translating this novel.

this novel impressed me the most out of the esports that i've read and has become a top favourite of mine.

—————

what drew me in to the novel was the blend of angst with esports. we've seen numerous esports of people climbing up the ladder but what this novel gave was a different taste.

Spoiler

iirc, slowly into the story, the story of the past is being told. how the characters met each other and how this story began (and) again.

as mentioned by others, the past of the MC isn't good. meeting the ml, he started to have someone who was really good to him. but then tragedy struck the ml's team and they scattered to other countries/places and the MC was remained. (causing the mc's attitude at the beginning of the novel)

one of the most memorable to me was the tragedy of why and how the team disbanded which became the thing that made a group of teammates part ways. and the sentence others said to MC when he signed the contract later on gave me mixed emotions about humanity.

well, as the novel begins and the people who left returns, the next chapter of their life shall start. and be better than what has past.

[collapse]

edit:

after reading to the latest chapter, I feel like there's certain content missing as compared from the raws i've read... the one about the mc's trumpet?...

The perfect amount of angst and sweetness! It's a bit confusing in the beginning and the characters might seem unlikeable, but the backstory flashbacks explain why they are the way they are very nicely and I really like how human the characters are. They're flawed and they admit it and accept themselves and each other which is refreshing to see fictionally.

The comedy aspect shouldn't be underestimated. The serious scenes and funny moments are so well balanced it's very enjoyable.

The romance is straightforward yet subtle, hard to explain but it's also... more>> very refreshing and nice. The teammates and managers along with the couple pair combo really make it entertaining.

overall solid plot and characters, I came for the fluff but stayed for the angst and plot because it was so good. <<less

I have this strange disease where I like to read the beginning of the stories where the MC interacts with the ML scum but I quickly end up bored because I hate the ML, so there I was innocently hating the ML until the story took me by surprise gave me three I hit the ground and the referee yelled "Win by knock-out!"

As far as the story goes, we have already overcome the anguish a bit and it is really beautiful, highly recommended.

I should blame 'E-Sport's Circle Toxic Assembly Camp' for being the first E-sports novel to read that majored on the technical plot than the romance... no, more like it found it's way to integrate with the romance. So I've been reading similar ones like 'I can Do It' and 'FOG' to get a similar feel, but I guess not.

'FOG' is more of a romance with technical plot on the side, for those interested. I always find myself reading to see how their relationship progresses and seldom care of the game... more>> because that's how it was taken to be perceived from the beginning. But the later chapters started becoming more technical and the only game I looked forward to was the final game.

Now on to the characters, in the beginning the author started the ML with a talkative bubbly personality but later switched to a dull quiet personality maybe to fit the generic ML. The author also put on a solid past between the couple in the beginning chapters, but you can tell new stuff gets added about their past as the chapters go. The MC normally doesn't interact / get along with close side characters, but in the middle chapter, the author randomly puts him and a close side character who the MC has never interacted with in the past, casually mentioned that they interacted a few months ago. What I'm saying is the author makes up things as she goes, and it's showing. Also, almost the entire story dwells on the past.

The good part about this is that the story was quite humorous, and I have to thank the translator for the hard work of putting that across. I loved all the personalities of the side characters. They were much more interesting than the two main characters. <<less
