To rise from defeat; to revive amidst the dissipation.

As the vast oceans turn to dust and the thunder and lightning fade away,

That strand of spiritual mist once again approaches our great world.

With the shackles that bound our world now severed—

A whole new world of mystery and wonder awaits,

As we turn the corner…

——

The Sacred Ruins is a story set in a post-apocalyptic world. A world that has recovered to a state that is roughly equal to our own world in terms of technology and culture, although its ancient history remains largely unknown. The story begins during the post-graduation trip of our protagonist, where he discovers some ancient ruins and witnesses “the great change”, an upheaval that changed everything. The changing earth not only brought about new, unexplored landscape but also sparked the evolution of all organisms. Plants and animals started gaining sentience and some humans obtained unimaginable powers. The legends, myths, and tales of old seemed to have suddenly come to life as the earth entered a new era where beasts and men formed factions, explored new lands and ultimately struggled for supremacy.

Silly me, I thought there might be some actual ancient ruins exploration in this novel, given it's name. Wrong.

This has an interesting concept with a shaky execution. Sometimes it' good, sometimes not so much. And yes, it has a lot of grammar problems and some really odd word choices. Unlike some of the others I found the beginning to be the most interesting.

I really liked the story right up until he made it to the city. Then the MC starts losing his interesting characteristics and devolves into a standard ruthless... more>> MC. The story itself goes from original and intriguing to (as someone else put it) a cookie-cutter xianxia story.

I find the fact that the beasts set up clans and sects as soon as they can speak to be ridiculous (given that some are very solitary by nature). They just become a replacement for all the super sects and big traditional clans in other Chinese cultivation novels, complete with s*upid young masters. They pretty much exist just to provide the MC with enemies to fight and eat for the most part. <<less

This novel is not top 1 at qidian for nothing. Although this novel has a slow start, it slowly gets better as the novel progresses. It has its ups and downs, the cliche offending rich and powerful arrogant pricks then he has to hide and get stronger then when he levels up he does a reverse kill.
Spoiler

Pros is the way he trolls his opponents, capturing and auctioning enemies off to their families. However I still give a 4 star because the power level gap is really exaggerated. He's at currently level 3-4 and people of level 8-9 want to directly kill him already and he has no op master and friends to help him.

Romance wise also is lacklustre, even those who had the most chances of being waifu no.1 and no.2 either left his current area or left forgotten. Hell even his first time got taken by an enemy lady.

The starting few chapters are not what this novel is. It is indeed very verbose at the start and makes one think it is a very descriptive and poetic but very quickly (i mean the very first chapter) you'll realise it is just gimmicks and doesn't hold up.

It's the most generic god awful story of mentally deranged protagonist who acts worse than a African warlord but is portrayed like a hero who is saving the earth. Racism, misogyny, h*mophobia the whole ultra delux package is in this novel and... more>> it isn't subtle at all about it.

The only redeeming part was the cultivation seemed unique, but around 400 chapters it quickly shelves any importance to it and becomes just charade of mc's "shenanigans", peanut gallery losing themselves, young masters and their masters puking blood at his "shamelessness".

Talking about peanut gallery, here it is like there's a cosmic live stream going on 24/7 to watch MC, 80% of all chapters are just banters between the audience within this peanut gallery.

The novel reeks of toxic masculinity portrayed in the most grandiose and loath full form. Protagonist at start atleast seemed to have some forbearance towards sexually harassing women, there were incidents were he spoke of doing this and that but in the usual "it's all joke, he's a gentleman inside actually" style he didn't act out. But later in the chapters there's no qualms, he openly mol*sts them, their clothes get torn and it is soooo disgustingly down played how lecherous the world reacts to it. Women are literal commodity in this wretched novel.

I shiver at the thought of ever meeting this author, more so at the sheer number of readers who into this sort. It's ironic that this protagonist is painted as a hero and readers who hate evil protagonist like this guy.... when in actuality Fang Yuan, leylin or any evil protagonist are way better civilized than this filth of an MC.

I would have accepted his acts if they were told as such, but author goes to unimaginable lengths to twist and turn it into a "chivalrous" "Dominating" acts. The author actually failed in painting antagonists being worse than MC here. Killed women, children old and feeble? Bruhhh... Protagonist literally harassed and killed women without any scruples here. You can't just have protagonist acting like half a villan and expect us to hate the antagonists here.

Even the way the MC reacted to antagonists crimes is just "awkward" I get second hand embarrassment just reading how over reacting he was.

I've devolved into a rant, sorry.

World building wise, the author has this weird obsession to mushroom clouds, there's mushroom clouds under ground, over the ravines, in the folded spaces, in the literal empty space.... There's golden mushroom clouds, tiger mushroom clouds, dragon ones, multicolored ones, and probably there's a d*ck shaped one somewhere I'm sure. I don't know if author thinks "impact" is measured my mushroom clouds somehow or he just liked mushrooms or he wrote this while being high on shrooms... but it is Fking annoying seeing it used as measure of power even in literal Fking space!

There's nothing particularly interesting after like 200 chapters, I think the author dropped the notion of post apocalyptic world and china vs west and hopped onto China the world vs the outer world. Like there's nothing outside China now, the history of earth and millions of years of it there was only China.... All peerless experts were Chinese....

Again wouldn't be a problem if from get go there was nothing other than China, but ignoring the plots you opened up in the first place is just annoying.

To conclude, it is a broken product with a horrible horrible, horrible protagonist that is painted as a role model.... which should be a criminal offence, idk how ccp censor board doesn't see this as a toxic sludge. <<less

Not bad. 4* coz I read on some website and the translation in the last 200 chaps was really bad, also I was at 1500 and there was still no sign that author will tell what the next cultivation realm was..150 chaps left and there were like 2-3 major realms of cultivation still left..

I stopped here mostly because of horrible translation on that website. The story was good enough. People who can find a good website can read

Modern words and some old words, sounding very poetic.. Im guessing that it sounds much better in chinese and its second purpose is to expand the vocabulary as well as speaking (if the readers choose to read it out loud).

It's like a detective story set in the 17-19th century, somewhat dark and gray. Might come back and read it when I have the time to be immersed in the imagination that comes from the many words describing the world within this novel.
