I woke up in an unknown forest.

It seemed like this place was a fantasy world where strange-looking beasts ran rampant. And just like in a game, I seemed to be able to check my enemies’ and my ability.

Let’s hunt monsters and gather titles in order to level up and evolve into a Greater Dragon!

And I heard a mysterious voice in my head, “Let’s aim to be the strongest!”

Short story is this. Don't bother reading this novel. The synopsis might sound good, but the actual story is badly done. 1/5

Maybe my standards have risen a lot lately or I'm just looking back on Kumo desu Ga better then it was, but this story just couldn't keep my interest. The MC is an idiot. That's about all I can say. Not the comedic mind, the aggravating kind. And while that could be forgiven if there was something interesting going on with the plot, or even just other characters, there's... more>> nothing. The story lacks the humor that allowed Kumo desu ga to only have the MC for 200 plus chapters. Without that humor, it's like reading a bad text based adventure game. I gave the story 40 chapters, and even if someone says it gets better later on (which according to the other reviews it doesn't) that's really not saying much. If a story can't establish and get me interested in after that long, that's a rather large failure on the authors part. The very first thing EVERYONE learns when learning how to write is that the introduction sets the tone for what follows. Everything between that and the ending is just filler. <<less

As you can see from the reviews, most of the people marking this low because "he's not an angsty fellow hell-bent on revenge even with those bad treatment". Well too bad he's not, you can't force him to become your favourite MC in another LN. I will say this though, this novel is not as bad as those people said. The evolution trope is always interesting and this novel has some cool evolution type. The fights is dragging, just like how shounen usually are, no mindblowing movement but still some... more>> are good. The dragging boring fights are actually things that lowered my rating of this story, from 4.- to 3.5 rounded to 4 (Psst, just skip the fight if it bores you). The MC might seem dumb and indecisive, but he has his own situation to handicapped himself and do things the way he do (mostly because his loneliness, evolution and scheme to befriend human). The drama is quite good, I actually feel sad for some of his "situation". And as you can see he's maturing and you can feel proud of him. It's true the comedy of his blunder can become irritating. But hey, most of JP novel is kinda like that tho, it's for advancing the plot right? Life's not thrilling if you don't blunder into life and death situation, I guess? Btw, some people say this novel is just an inferior early Kumo desu ga. Those people are just looking at the same leveling and evolution trope. While early Kumoko is more of a thriller of beating stronger monster after becoming the lowest in food chain, this novel is more to the side of drama and melancholy of a dragon restricting himself to find ways so that he can connect to people. Maybe to the side of Kumoko' sidestory but with evolution, kinda? <<less

I HATE WEAK MC'S. When I say weak I do not mean they lack physical strength. I'm talking about a mentality. Mc's that do not learn, always jump into things with emotions instead of logic, Spineless, balless, scared of intimacy with women, and anything else you would expect to see from a sheltered naive child that hasn't experienced how the world really works. I see a few phrases like "Edgelord" or "Angsty" being said by the people that gave it a high rating. I have to assume that these people... more>> are the sheltered kids I was just talking about that can relate to this MC on a level that others like me cannot. We are not expecting "large explosions and blood-curdling excitement", no we just expect the MC to have a brain, balls, and some type of character growth if he's going to start out being so damn annoying.

What is the point of making a story about reincarnating into a dragon if the MC doesn't even use his dragon abilities? Whats the point of being nice to people that could give a sh*t less about you? What's the point of the story if it just repeats itself over and over without the MC learning anything and growing as a person in some way? Last but not least the title doesn't even make sense! "Let's aim to be the strongest." He never aims to even be strong in any way.

No, we aren't "Edgelords"... we just can't find enjoyment in the story for obvious reasons. It deserves less than 1 star. <<less

I read it till c51

It's so slow~ and rather than [weak to strong]... It's might be more correct to say it's [weak to ordinary?]

There's not one bit "fierceness" that indicated [Aiming to Be the Strongest]. Rather the MC is kinda ret*rd.

Drop it. -_-

This novel is probably the most underrated novel of all time. Easily in my top 5. The story about a dragon growing steadily stronger and fighting loneliness that comes with strength. People keep saying this novel is bad because the main character tends to make s*upid decisions, but not all main characters get reincarnated with cheats and judgement to breeze through every situation. The main character is not overpowered and simply wants friends and family, however circumstances always make him evolve into a strong and evil dragon to defeat his... more>> enemy. This is a story about someone who wasnt born overpowered, but worked to get stronger and with every upside there is a downside. A realistic story about a reincarnated dragon who wants to get stronger, survive and make friends.

PS: Dont listen to Azigards review. Dude, fighting goddess? It hasnt been revealed if she is even behind all this. And MC is struggling to survive let alone fight the heavens. You read waaay too many chinese novels. And you are upset because MC is rolling as a way of fighting. Well, sorry but when your options are limited you do what it takes to survive, the idea is original and it is refreshing to see that the first attack he used is still used later on. As for stagnant plot, that is a bit of a problem, but again realistic, it takes awhile to get stronger, rather than xianxia authors that pull trouble directly from their asses. And only 10 or so chapters are poorly translated

61 chapters!! I can't believe I read that far but f*ck it. This novel has THE most hatable MC ever! I mean wtf... He wants to get close to humans but they are afraid of him and attack him the second they see him, and the s*upid MC just takes the beating without attacking even once and still tries to get close to humans and cycle repeats!!!

The fights against the other animals are even worse because the MC refuses to use his more powerful abilities because they're "evil". Instead he... more>> gets the sh*t beaten out of him and just barely manages to survive because of the plot armor!! Overall I'd like to give this novel a -9000 if there ever was such a rating. <<less

The story so far is enough to keep me interested and it has lots of potential. If you are not fazed by the negative reviews, it is worth a shot as the end of c95 is as if all the previous chapters are just 1 huge intro. As a minor spoiler, there's a bit of a twist around chapter 80+. In other words, reviews before c80 are basically those who have given up on the story before it starts to raise up the main plot.

The story:

20% MC making s*upid decisions

80% MC pointlessly lamenting over the consequences of his s*upid decisions

... more>> Repeat ad infinitum

There's the tag: 'Naive male lead.' But naivety implies a lack of knowledge due to a lack of experiences; whereas this MC is just a straight up fool who never learns. Maybe if his idiocy was for the purpose of advancing the plot I could forgive it, even though it'd be poor writing, but there's no such thing. The author just straight up purposefully made the MC an idiot just for the hell of it. I guess it's supposed to be humorous, but it just turned out to be annoying and unfunny. If the story were written from a third person perspective I might be able to laugh at the MC's idiocy, but since it's written from the first person perspective I just feel mentally exhausted after having read 20 chapters from the viewpoint of an incurable fool. <<less

First off, ignore the edgelords saying that it is bad because he's "spineless". The MC is not spineless, he's just not a psychopath, he sticks to his convitions even though there is an easy way out, because it goes against what he is actively seeking out.

The pacing is great, it does not rush through things and nothing drags on for more than is needed. Although there are problems with the translation's in a few areas it is still well within my ability to tolerate (I am a grammar nazi). The... more>> setting is interesting and the premise is, while not original uncommon so it should be a fairly new concept to most.
The chapters are kind of short at times. That can be considered a downside to some, I personally don't mind it but it is deceptively short.
I love the characters as well.

The fact that the author got me to care about 5 characters that have no lines outside of noises should tell you how good this series is.

I read this in one day. A single sitting marathon of 103 chapters. So everything is fresh in my head as I type this review.

Now back on topic.
The MC was born from an egg as a dragon, and fights to evolve. And as any being with human intellect would in the situation of being totally alone while in a strange world that they don't recognize as a strange creature he naturally started to feel lonely.
This is one of rhe MC's character flaws (and for the people who don't know; a character flaw is usually a trait of a character that makes them either do something dumb or grounds them and makes them more relatable. In the case of this MC it is both.)
He ends up messing up because of this and it comes back to bite him in the ass.
This is how you write a character. When they mess up, they should be punished for it.
Unlike a lot of the novels here. It is also not suposed to come out of nowhere it needs buildup and resolution.

This is ho estly a great series and I recommend everyone who enjoys lighthearted adventure with a dark undertone to read this. Although, if you're into grand adventure and not the smaller scale adventure then I'm going to make sure to tell you that this is not some massive adventure. Although that could change since it has some good pacing.

Well my thoughts got a bit jumbled up but whatever. <<less

I put this novel down for a long time after being fed up with it around ch 90 but I finally felt like picking it up again. Okay so some people give this a 5 while some give it a 1 but to me this deserves a solid 3. Because while I highly enjoyed it up to chapter 90 a rather annoying patterns is starting to emerge and it's just not satisfying to me. The pattern I am referring to is the "tragic/misunderstood hero" theme the author has devoted himself... more>> to. Sadly even as the story progresses rather than at least make the most out of this forced premise the story instead keeps losing focus on side quests.

See the story starts out pretty simple. MC reincarnates as a dragon and slowly gets stronger thanks to a level up system. A lot of people compare this story to Kumo no desu ka and they are rather similar in their setting. The biggest difference is the characters. While Kumo's MC has a mild interest in interacting among humans she also doesn't especially care since she's bad at social skills. She also has a complex and fun personality. Drago's MC on the other hand, while not bad, isn't especially great either. I will way he isn't spineless like some people claim, he's actually really brave and sticks to his principals, so he's not a bad character overall

The first big problem shows up around ch 90
Spoiler

See while the MC is getting started he saves the live of a young girl but is forced to flee because s*upid villagers think he's bad. Well 70 something chapters later they finally meet up again and she even helps him FINALLY learn to understand the language. He then rushes to the village to help save it from a disaster and even befriends some old guy.

Everything is looking great until a rock dragon shows up and they can't beat it. The MC then decided to quickly evolve to try to win but only one evolution can beat the rock dragon and it causes everything around it to die. Well he gets out of this by the old man begging him to save the village even if he has to die. So the MC kills him and this apparently nets him enough bad karma to unlock a different evil dragon evolution which is even stronger but doesn't instantly make everything around him die.

Well after he wins the villagers attack him since they saw him kill the old man (But somehow ignoring the people he saved) and he's now what is known as an evil dragon. The girl though tries to vouch for him.... only for him to briefly attack her before running off presumably because he's trying to play the bad guy all of a sudden.

[collapse]

In theory this isn't a bad move but the problem is that in the end we've been getting teased at the MC getting a human form and the story moving to the "living among humans" arc or something. But instead we get stuck with a tragic hero type who has to go on a wandering on his own arc because he's an evil dragon. In terms of writing it's not the worse I've ever seen but it's just a lame pay off as what it effectively does is keep the story going the same way it's been going. With the MC wandering around, away from humans, all while wishing he could live among them.

Meaning instead of his "save the village" adventure allowing him to grow as a character and finally allow things to change but changes basically nothing. It would be fine if he grew some other way but he doesn't really so it just feels like the author purposefully built all of this up just to throw it all away for the sake of a "twist".

To make matters worse, as mentioned before, the story rapidly loses the ability to focus on anything as almost immediately after he gets into a random fight that gets him washed away to "world 2" or in other words a desert area where he can't find his way back. After this is just a lot of him wandering and wasting time alone until he meets a rabit monster who he makes friends with and then wastes time with until he meets a catgirl who he then proceeds to waste time with.

The problem with the story at this point is it loses the ability to commit to anything. For example regarding skills

Spoiler

For example before Ch 90 when he meets the girl she starts to try to teach him the healing spell [rest] which he wants to learn so that he can eventually evolve away from plague dragon... he doesn't even bother trying to learn it again until after ch 150. He also constantly fusses over his human tranformation skill doesn't doesn't try to grind it's level besides the initial grinding he did way back before ch 90

[collapse]

So even though level and skill grinding is one of the big appeals of a story with a level and skill system the story pretty much halts with that for over 50 chapters all while talking about the stuff he wants to level up before immediately getting side tracked. There is even a point where the noevel spends 3 chapters on FISHING! and no this doesn't result in anything important. It's just 3 chapters of the MC SLOWLY talking about fishing. <<less

The reviews are mostly unfair. Its a good novel, though slow paced.

A lot of people blame the desire of the MC to be near what he considered normal, but all the clues about what was his personality like before being a dragon are enough to deduce he was fairly social person with lots of friends, so its normal to want companionship. Its fun to read, the battles are nice and he slowly gets friends in the most unlikely places. But, if you are a person with no patience and just... more>> want fast paced battle filled story with broken main characters right off the bat, this is not for you. <<less

Thank you Japan for ruining another potentially fun-to-read novel with piles of cringe worthy [insert here] trope JP plot armor (that one's for you lizard) and another [surprise] impossible-to-relate-to wimpy MC

Spoiler

FYI the lizard that I'm referring to is a random lizard that the MC fought (and lost to pathetically around chapter 40 or so) that somehow magically ends up practically falling in love with him after the fight

This is my 1st time writing a review so please don't mind any grammar/spelling mistakes or any minor mistakes at all and just focus on my reasons on why I think this is a highly underrated novel that you should read. The only reason why I'm doing this review is to help those who are confused if it's a good novel worth investing your time in and the fact I'm extremely in love with this novel but I'll try my best to show a neutral side to things.

-----Introduction-----

Are you one... more>> of those people who determines if a novel is worth reading or not based on their ratings and reviews?

If yes then that's great since it's perfectly normal and reasonable to be this type of person and in fact, I'm one of those people. Usually, I'm easily swayed by the ratings and reviews so I have always avoided novels with low ratings and overwhelming amounts of negative reviews but this novel is something I couldn't ignore even with it's low 3.3 ratings. It's manga is what mainly made me really engrossed into it and the fact that the MC is a full blown dragon. Dragons being my favorite fantasy creatures clearly and in the end, this novel... changed my perspective a bit making me rethink how ratings and reviews aren't everything. I would like to also state that this is a heavily action focused novel so it does not exactly suit everyone's tastes and I'm only here to appeal to those who have come here for a good monster isekai or those who just love the general concept of dragons in general.

-----What I'm Gonna Talk About-----

I shall be talking about the characters (Mainly the MC since a lot of people have issues with him and some important side characters with some being potential love interests), action, plot, why there is a tragedy tag based on my findings, and some extra things that I wanna note.

-----Characters-----

(Main Character)
First off, our MC or also known as Irushia which is a name given to him is a character who a lot of readers see as s*upid, timid and annoying since he's clinging on his human morals even though he's a dragon/monster now. Here's the thing, I can only acknowledge that he has these traits to some degree, but I cannot understand why so many people dislike him for it. The timid part is a completely normal part since we don't know much about his past but he could have some circumstances that could of made him timid so you can't exactly fully blame him for being the timid guy he is. I wouldn't also fully call him timid and sometimes a bit cautious because if your in a world filled with uncertainty and is completely unknown to you, overestimating yourself is one of the many important things you shouldn't be doing. Even though Irushia is a literal dragon, he's sometimes scared to fight monsters that are weaker than him. Although a lot of you may bash him for it, this is completely normal behavior since getting killed by creatures weaker than you is very much possible even if it's a really small chance. Take goblin slayer as an example, even though normal goblins are weak, they kill so many adventurers and people because of many important reasons like overestimating yourself. For the part about him being s*upid, I don't comprehend why even detest him for it. Like I know in the beginning, he literally gains a title related to his foolish and s*upid actions/behavior but it's actually wonderful that he gained one. It shows that he's not that a flawless/perfect character and since with this title, as he grows and develops, that title will mostly serve as a reminder of his growth. It'll slowly disappear or at least change enough for it not to embarrass him too much showing his development throughout the story. I've have looked at his stats on the wiki and surprisingly, that title does actually change to some degree revealing the author's intention to slowly develop him unless it's all a translation error but I doubt it. Ok, now back to the actual character and not his title, Irushia is just a normal and average human trying to survive in a new world infested with violence and monsters so him thinking of countless outcomes and solutions to things off the bat or even in general would be completely absurd. He can't think of the best solutions and tactics when it comes to battles/problems but he at least tries his best and it still works out in the end even if it takes a while. He doesn't have the common sense of a normal human in this world nor does he have the common sense of a normal dragon which greatly impacts him and is not something you definitely can't blame him for. After all, a different world can contain different cultures, practices and many other things that Japanese people do not do. Sometimes he may act like a complete idiot that you just wanna release all your anger on him but it's not like he's gonna be like that for the entire story. Lots of stories have their MC's flawed and imperfect at the beginning but that slowly changes overtime normally as they progress. I just want to state something obvious being that Irushia is not a super intelligent character nor is he talented/gifted and if you want someone perfect and does everything flawlessly then please go back to reading your tr*sh isekai novels packed with perfection about the MC. I've gotten tired of perfect MCs, you know why? because they usually never develop since what's there to develop if your literally the embodiment of perfection although there may be a few exceptions to this statement but it generally applies. Him making mistakes is actually great sometimes for the sake for growth since character development is possible for him and you know what people say, "Learn from your mistakes." Now the humans morals part is once again something I don't understand why people hate or are even annoyed at him for. It's VERY NORMAL that he's trying to cling on his human morals since becoming a dragon doesn't make him lose his human mind so him hesitating to kill is definitely natural by all means. Taking a life of a human isn't easy considering he himself has experienced what it was like as a human although he doesn't exactly remember much of it but still at least feels what it was like. He just a normal person, he's no revenge hunger person, he's no antihero, and is definitely not a villain but just some random guy simply trying to survive life as a dragon. He doesn't want to annihilate everything that goes against him and he only does fully commit when absolutely necessary or according to his emotions that linger within his human mind. Sometimes his way of thinking may be flawed and not smart but hey, everyone makes mistakes so no need to majorly hate him for it. Some mistakes may be huge or minor but it's all the same to me since most likely he will eventually learn from those mistakes through the hard or easy way. In the end, he's just a guy trying to become the very strongest in order to protect those he values greatly to him since he really has no other better goals. These goals are quite reasonable considering his current circumstances are not that of a normal dragon but a former human who lost most of his memories and has upheld his morals as a human even though he has now turned into a dragon. Irushia has lots of room to grow and that's what his journey to being the strongest will do, this sole journey that will take a indefinite amount of time to complete will evolve him physically and mentally, slowly but surely adapting to the world. If your still worrying or annoyed about his human morals part, don't worry there will be character that will help fill that gap for him sort of.

Spoiler

When he becomes Ouroboros which is the 2 headed dragon form that he gets after evolving for a fourth time, he gets a new head who becomes his best friend basically and is mainly referred as "Partner." She's almost the complete opposite of him and is the one who fills that moral gap of his to a good degree. This all happens in the desert arc.

[collapse]

(tl;dr) - He's not some super talented genius who's perfect at everything. Irushia is a character who will make mistakes from time to time so don't except him doing any mind-blowing things often or anytime in fact. Give him a damn break since he's mentally only a human who can't remember most of his past life and is trying to adapt the life of a dragon which is clearly difficult since his adaptability is not the greatest. Irushia will only kill without hesitation if absolutely necessary for the sake of himself or those close to him. He also doesn't have massive titanium balls and is bit of an coward which are believable traits to have considering his situation so open your mind a bit and ask yourself why Irushia is acting like this. Since with these faulty traits, he has potential room for development since after all, he's not a perfect being. Try putting yourself in his shoes and see how well you do because I bet you will die quite early on since adapting to another world is quite difficult. So overall, if you drop this novel because of the MC then I will literally slap you mentally for your s*upidity.

(Side Characters)
Next, our side characters that we encounter throughout the novel. Our MC meets lots of side characters on his journey and a decent amount of them are likeable and great. They bring elements into the story that our MC normally wouldn't be able to bring by himself which makes them interesting like having an actual past which our MC doesn't have pretty much. They also have traits that bring variety and aren't some copy and paste characters meaning these characters aren't bland mostly which bring more life into the story. The only part I find a bit annoying is that some of the side characters who seem to want to travel with the MC cannot unfortunately. There is a good reason for those side characters not be able to travel with him so don't think that the author is purposely making the MC lonely. Plus he does get permanent companions to help with his loneliness eventually but it takes quite a bit but the current companions according to the wiki, some spoilers and the chapters that I've read will be posted below in spoilers.

Spoiler

Partner is the other head of the 2 headed dragon body (The MC being the other head) and acts really childish like a baby at first considering she was just born. But as time goes on, she becomes someone important to the MC and both of them are literally physically inseparable making bond together quite well. She solves the gap of the human moral part since she's an example of what a dragon should be in general. I would also say she like the main source of the humor in the story since her actions and way of thinking is a bit funky.

[collapse]
Spoiler

Alo, who was originally a young Lithuvar girl but gets killed by a Manticore and is revived later by the MC as a skeleton. She gets a humanoid form because of evolving into a higher species after some hard effort. She acts as the mage of the party I would say. She's a potential love interest since once the Lithuvar arc was over and when the MC was about to leave the forest where the Lithuvar lived in, Alo comes with him to leave and tells his him to come lower his head to whisper him something. It was a trap since her original goal wasn't trying to tell him something but in order to get his dragon head to the same elevation level as her and with that, she kisses him on the cheek and runs off while smiling. There was also a little two panel manga format showing Alo making sure no nasty woman go near our MC. Another reason why she could be a potential love interest is because both her and the MC can live forever without aging making them a perfect couple so both don't ever get lonely.

[collapse]
Spoiler

Nightmare (Doesn't really have a name but is called Nightmare on the wiki) who was one of the many spiders that our MC's Partner took care of. She (Not sure about the gender but according to the wiki, it's a she?) travels with the MC mainly due to her evolving into something sinister/evil thanks to our MC while her siblings evolved normally and maybe the fact that she's the closet to Partner since she evolved onto of her head which the other spiders didn't do. She acts like the hidden card of the part because of her webs imo.

[collapse]
Spoiler

Treant (Once again, doesn't really have a name but is called Treant on the wiki) is a normal grown tree that was cursed by our Partner under the orders of our MC and becomes a cursed tree who follows his orders. Treant is the weakest person in the party considering his leveling speed and lack of power but that will solved later. Treant acts as the tank of the part although he mainly tanks for Alo and Nightmare since our MC is beefy as hell.

[collapse]
Spoiler

Black Lizard was at first his enemy but later become companions with our MC afterword's during the 1st arc making her the 1st companion the MC gets. She's very attached to him and acts very affectionate towards Irushia since he's her savior. The MC and Black Lizard separate due to some unfortunate events but do eventually meet after a long time. She could also be a potential love interest because when she finds out the MC is gone from the forest that she and the MC started in, she goes onto a long journey in search of him even though she doesn't even know he's alive or not showing how dedicated she is to the MC and how important the MC is to her. I'm not sure if she can currently live forever but most likely when she gets her final evolution, she can probably become un-aging like our MC but still a potential love interest in my eyes. It's hard to see who's the better waifu between Alo and Black Lizard but there's always the way to go with both.

[collapse]

(tl;dr) - The side characters really help the novel out since they offer elements the MC cannot offer. They can give some diversity/variety into the story to add a more lively feeling to the story since our little MC is quite lonely a lot of the time and is merely only one character with some circumstances.

-----The Action-----

The action scenes are great and provide a lot of details, making it mostly easy to understand what's going on. Another great thing is that the MC will for the most part, fight an enemy that's likely the boss of the area he's gonna be in during that arc based on what I read which is really nice addition since it symbolizes that our MC is the strongest of that area which closely relates to what his goal is and shows that he's growing and moving up to the big leagues. If by chance he doesn't fight the strongest enemy in that certain area then there might of been some circumstances that didn't allow like it like for example, becoming allies with the strongest being in that area. Even when the MC is grinding, it's not super boring and is still interesting to read since the curiosity of wanting to know when his next evolution is gonna be and how strong he will become after is always there. The fight scenes are sometimes a bit lengthy and can last through multiple chapters which can be a bit annoying and tiring to others but that just shows how descriptive and significant the fight scenes are most of the time. Of course, there may be some fight scenes that may extremely bore you and skipping them might not be the bad option since basically all the important fights are at least interesting. So, really the only boring fights you'll probably be skipping are with highly insignificant enemies that cannot help our MC grow in the slightest. Another interesting thing to add is that sometimes during fight scenes, the author would use multiple POVs, showing what each significant character is thinking and how they react mentally which makes it really compelling.

(tl;dr) - As a action focused novel, it really does it's main element well enough to make me invested with it's descriptive and interesting fight scenes it offers throughout the story. The most important fight scenes of each arc are really great but some random fight scenes that happen along the way may bore you so skip them if you really must but I wouldn't advise it since seeing him grow even if it's only a tiny bit of strength like 1 level is still significant because it's 1 step closer to the next evolution unless it's a enemy that doesn't help our character grow at all giving absolutely no exp.

-----The Plot-----

Our main character, who doesn't remember his name is a human who died and is reincarnated into another world as dragon which you clearly tell by the title. The dragon he reincarnates into isn't some high tier dragon but the lowest and weakest which is a dragon egg so he's starting from scratch. He doesn't really remember anything besides some random things and the fact that he's from another world. He first is born in a forest that he has no absolute knowledge and must try to survive to best of his capabilities or else he'll die of course. This story is basically a tale of a reincarnated human inside the body of a newborn dragon going through countless struggles/situations and meeting many people that could either be allies or enemies on his journey to being the very strongest. I personally haven't find any significant plot holes and the story isn't overly confusing/complicated since the story drifts in a natural and understandable manner. It's not the most generic plot but also not exactly outstanding but that should be completely fine and tolerable in most people's eyes.

(tl;dr) - A man is reincarnated into the body of the weakest known dragon, a dragon egg and tries to survive in a cruel and violent world filled with monsters. The plot isn't super original or really generic and is overall decent.

-----The Tragedy Part-----

A lot of people are scared of or just hate tragedy and dislike it since it's just pure loss and sadness so I'm here to address it to the best of my abilities so people aren't scared to read it because of it. While I'm not completely sure on why there's a tragedy tag since I haven't spotted anything tragic in my chapters I've read. There was something I found on the wiki that might be the reason there's a tragedy tag. I just want to say that this is merely one of the many possibilities on why there's a tragedy tag based on some evidence and info I've gathered so I'm not absolutely certain.

Spoiler

The Mc's Partner who his other head sacrifices herself to save the MC later on in the novel because of how bad of a situation the MC was in. I believe this is the tragedy part since Partner was one of the MC's closet companions and has been with him ever since his 2 headed evolution which is a long time. The tragedy part could be something else but I don't think there are any significant losses as big as Partner dying that he experiences in his journey but who knows. Of course, there's also the possibility of the tragedy tag being a lie but I doubt that.

-----Extra Things-----

One really important thing that stood out is that most of the story, he's in his dragon form. Lots of main characters in isekai stories where they becomes something that's not a human always find a humanoid form and use it for the rest of the story rarely ever using their original forms. This is different though since in this story, there's actual disadvantages being in a humanoid form so our MC rarely ever uses it unless needed which I find really unique. The monster designs, mainly the dragon designs are all so great looking that they truly feel like unique types of dragons making me fascinated at them and aren't some copy and paste then edit a bit designs. Also, if your displeased by the translation quality of the beginning of the novel then I would recommend to read the 18 chapters the manga that you can read on manganelo/mangakakalot and head to ch92 of the novel since that's where it leaves off so that you only have to read the low quality translations a little bit longer before reaching the semi-good translations of the novel. If you wonder how I got to chapter 352 then go on the reddit of this novel then find the recent post regarding the light novel where you should see the word "DIGUSTED" and the top commenter of that post will have a link to a website that goes all the way up to chapter 352. The website hasn't been abandoned and I think the translator is the same as the one who posted their translations on wattpad.

(tl;dr) - It has unique element that I rarely see in monster isekais which is the constant use of the monster form since many MCs love staying in their humanoid forms. The monster designs are pretty nice but mostly the dragon designs are what captivated me the most since they aren't some just copy and paste then edit a bit designs mostly. I read up to c352 because of some nice website I found on reddit.

-----Conclusion-----

Characters - 9/10

Action - 9.5/10

Plot - 8/10

Overall - 9/10

If this didn't convince you to read the novel then it's either my fault as a poor reviewer or some other reason. Either way is unfortunate but I can't forcefully make people read it just cause I really love it but anyways, just ignore the low ratings, all the negative reviewers and the fact it's an isekai since many do not like the overall idea of isekai's since a lot of them are known to be quite bad. To be honest, at first the novel was ok or decent in my eyes in the beginning of the novel but after reading through 352 chapters, I got completely attached and couldn't stop loving it. I don't wanna be the type of guy to say "It gets better later on" but it truly felt like it did to me imo. The characters, action, the interesting evolutions, and the way the story is going are what truly made me so invested and making me want to be begging for more. Just dive into it yourself to truly see if the greatness I speak of is there or not. <<less

I think its a pretty good novel, the fights are boring but thats just because I have read too many fights to care how the MC wins, cause they allways do one way or another.

I gave it a 4 mostly cause I love dragons and evolutions so thats 2 stars as base, the MC its not a ret*rd so half a star (though not amazingly bright either) has a band of monkeys and a lovely lizard as a love interest (somewhat sentient) so another half star and the last one... more>> is because it has a lot of potentiall, its just starting to really go somewhere, the real story stars from now on (c89 forward). <<less

The story is incredibly hard to read. And I’m not talking about the machine translation we have here (though that’s obviously not great either for all the usual reasons), but I’m talking about the original Japanese. The story is mainly told through internal monologue since he’s a dragon and rarely ever has anyone around him to really talk to, and it’s absolutely grating to read his rough speech pattern in Japanese. Yes, that can be a bit of a matter of taste, but when taken with how s*upid the main... more>> character is it just feels like you’re listening to an uneducated as*hole complaining all the time (since most of what he does is complain about the consequences of his own actions... and then brush it off and never learn from his mistake). He’s so s*upid that the author even gives him an ability called, “Just an Idiot, ” which honestly feels more like an excuse for the author to run roughshod over common sense and have the main character do s*upid things for the sake of advancing the plot than the comedy device it was likely meant to be. When the narrator of the story is as grating as the main character here, it’s really hard to continue reading.

It’s rough since there’s a lot of potential that just ends up feeling like it’s wasted. His actions around chapter ~10 against the wolves and with the village definitely tugged on my heartstrings and got me excited about the future of the story. But when the main character is supposed to be making a self-sacrificial choice that makes himself look bad for the sake of everyone else and the only thing I can think is how many other obvious and much better choices he could have made, you have to wonder how much of it is the main character’s s*upidity and how much of it is the author’s inability to write a more coherent story. In broad strokes it’s not that bad, but actually reading it just disappoints me. It’s even worse when the main character is just normally being s*upid and making s*upid choices for no real reason, and then screwing himself over and then complaining about it. It’s just not entertaining to read at all.

It doesn’t help either that he spends most of his time doing nothing but fighting one thing or another. Or later on, making something else fight one thing or another (that Rabbit, lol). There’s some plot around chapters ~200, but even that ends disappointingly. Stuff like Kumo desu ga? (inevitable comparisons since the premise of both are somewhat similar) gets around how repetitive fighting and leveling up gets by having a fun main character. With the idiotic and annoying main character we get here, we get none of what made Kumo desu ga? popular and all of the drag that a better author could have cut down on.

To put it another way, this story had a good idea and some possibly interesting plots, but the execution was done poorly and the main character was way too annoying and idiotic to enjoy. In the hands of a better author it could have been good, but as it stands all it is is a pile of wasted potential.

For reference, I’ve read up to chapter 90, and I’ve skimmed up to chapter 231. I’d say the story peaks at around chapter 11 and fails to do much of anything past that point. You could honestly skip about 90% of the chapters and you wouldn’t miss much. The author definitely needs to trim down on all the filler material that does nothing but bloat the chapter count. <<less

CAUTION, Google translator used.

Very long, very boring, very s*upid and absurd. ... more>>
Spoiler

Everything was fine before the protagonist began to take care of this gluttonous ball and in the end everything slipped when he saved the cat-girl.

He even forgot that he was striving to become a "Good" dragon. I'll give this product a chance and read another 15-20 chapters, but if nothing changes, then I'll just throw it away and forget it. Oh, what a huge potential and what a disgusting performance. <<less

Because of chapter 83 (ot 84 dont remember) I had some hope about this but its the same. He is so obsessed with humans that even is he need to sacrifice his friends for some s*upids humans, who also hate him, he won't doubt to sacrifice them, also he is pretty s*upid and fight like a human even when he is a dragon.

The pacing is slow and horrendous. However the way the story went is realistic and relatable to me. The consequences and hardships he had to go for is so touching. Unlike other isekais, this one also denies him the easy way out, becoming a human and easily strolling into a human city to become an adventurer. Its refreshing.

The fact that he also has this caveat of becoming strong, yet evil dragon but tries extremely hard to counteract it to be able to live with his friends. It shows true resilience.

The story itself is very well done and is very similar to kumo. However the MC isn't a very like-able fellow at the start. I mean he's a total numb skull and will make you scream throughout the entire novel. However as you take the journey with him you'll find yourself growing attached to this dorky MC. Sure he's an idiot and you will wish he would get a brain but even then you will find yourself on the edge of your seat gritting your teeth praying for this unfortunate... more>> fellow. The translation is very well done and deserves an extra star, you should definitely check this one out if you like monster type reincarnation novels. <<less
