All of his actions and demeanour are extremely doting, and reading this novel is like retreating into a peaceful watercolour painting. After MC posseses the Tmall genie (an amazon echo adjecent machine) of the ML, he gains further insight into the poor the living conditions of ML's everyday life was. He takes it into his own hands to slowly improve his life (secretly!) because he knows anything too flashy will damage the ML's pride. The MC is very bright and a bit silly, and he is ML's warmth through trying times. It's very heartwarming to see how MC helps the ML, just because he feels that he deserves more than what he has. ... more>>

The heartwarming aspect of this novel, I would say, is the relationship MC has with his friend. He is very altruistic, and it reflects in his relationship with everyone in the novel. If there is danger, he will throw himself out as bait so his friend will live. That isn't to say he'll sacrifice himself for anyone, but the people who are kind to him, he will pay back tenfold. It's also refreshing to see that he outright states at one point, between his friend and the ML, he will choose his friend. I like MC's that are firm in their convictions, and doesn't let love change the dynamics of his previous friendships.

He is also the same with the  ML, but unlike other novels in this list, it takes a long time for the ML to warm up to him. This can be a bit heartwrenching to see, because you see the MC prioritize the ML quite alot. <<less

The first section of the novel focused around healing, and what comes after trauma. The ML has had his entire worldview unearthed twice, and you can see the cognitive dissonance in his psyche. The MC, bless his heart, does not high EQ but tries his best. The relationship between them is very heartwarming, but the dark backdrop of the entire novel can be heavy to read. <<less

The ML was (implied?) to be trained into a pleasure s*ave and was rescued by the MC very early on. His temperament at the beginning was like a collared wolf—prideful, but ultimately chained down. The MC's mischievous behaviour lightens the ML's otherwise gloomy personality and really brings him back to life. There's mutual attraction from the start and it's interesting to see their love change from contractual to unconditional love. Their love is what turns an otherwise vaguely depressing novel into something that I can (almost) call lighthearted.

MC is easy to love, as seen but his intricate web of interpersonal relationships throughout the novel. This is one of the few novels where all the characters can stand alone and still have characteristics outside of being the MC's friend/relative/lover (plus! it's one of the only novels i've read where the MC is tactile with other people theyre close to? it's really refreshing!) <<less
