MDZS is one great representative. The romance aspect is only confronted in the later part of the novel. The rest? Full of mysteries, zombies, political intrigue and tear-inducing family drama. This is also the type of novel which you would want to read a whole spin off of EVERY side character. It's that good. The romance is great too, it's angsty "off cam", had its moment of confusion and regrets but they got to know each other through the years and it eventually had a happy ending, making this couple one of my favorites in the world of fiction. <<less

It centers around a gory supernatural detective game. Participants are those who are about to die in real life. They all have to go through a door and solve the mystery of the world inside that door and receive a key to go back to the real world. They have to pass through 12 doors and finally live irl without fear of their predestined upcoming deaths since the reward is it wont come anymore. But in every door you can get killed easily and there are only a few survivors each time. The whole plot dynamic is amazing. And both MC and ML are intelligent and level-headed. I LOVE IT. <<less

From my review: It's the type of novel that would've ended earlier if people will just learn how to talk to each other (AGAIN). But like real life, conversations are hard especially if already involves prejudice and careless decisions. It's like throwing peas at the wall. The novel opens up with a typical time travel scenario: MC is now back at the past, a second chance he never thought of having. But his awareness of things that have yet to happen caused a lot of changes that forced him to face previously misunderstood emotions and regrets. The novel then becomes an onion: you will soon find yourself busy with peeling layers and layers of pain.

But beware, it's not perfect, I'm dubious with some scenes truth to be told, but I've read worse scenarios (worse in terms of what's happening in the novel, not in terms of writing) so I just shrugged it off, plus the author managed to explain and wrap up everything at the end anyway so I am quick to forgive. I prefer mature 18+ readers for this. <<less

But I remember thinking it was an easy read, had memorable side characters, and that most of its major conflicts could've been resolved if the characters would only talk to each other. Weirdly, despite the latter observation, I still enjoyed it. It's fun, new and the scenes are easy to remember! That's why when the drama series came out and it was more or less loyal to the novel esp in its dialogues, I was instantly smitten. It's not perfect but it's memorable. <<less
