I am deeply in love with Su Yi. Maybe almost as much as Wanyan Xu? LOL.

War Prisoner begins with General Su Yi assessing his troops and asking about the help (?) that he isn't getting from the Great Qi king, he mourns by playing a mournful tune on his flute, which is heard by Wanyan Xu, the king of the conquering nation. Here, I'd like to point out how awesome the author is for putting in a scene that left me speechless: A dead soldier is roughly buried in a... more>> sand dune and his body is shown under the barely there sand, wounds open and bleeding. Yeah, that really got to me.

Su Yi and his army are taken hostage and at first the king tortures Su Yi just to torture him, but then it pisses him off that he isn't able to break Su Yi, so he systematically tears down everything that Su Yi holds sacred, until he is (non-metaphorically speaking) under the king. Even while being r*ped and ab*sed, Su Yi maintains his dignity throughout his ordeal and wins the heart of king and court (mostly.)

There are people in the court who conspire against him and set him and Wanyan Xu (the king) up for heartache and suffering. You've got to wonder how it is that Su Yi can endure so much and still be so forgiving, but I think it's that he knows that everything is temporary and therefore, fleeting, and that's what helps Su Yi have such a forgiving and generous heart. The one person he forgave that truly deserved none of his mercy? The mercy he gave her was her life, and after she caused a scene that was tantamount to treason? Yeah, a bigger person than I, because I wouldn't have had the heart to forgive that easily.

And that's kind of the point of the story: Forgiveness will bring you peace and happiness.

Hm, I read till the end. A standard damsel in stress novel. Just change the girl into MC and its done. I like the beginning cause the MC seems strong. But latter it change into weak person. But for its ok for fun reading.

Overall I'd give this only 2.75.

I waited 95 chapters and 2 extras long, and still didn't get what (I think) I deserve : (

The great general has this high pride and compassion towards the country's people, but I honestly couldn't find his capabilities to even save himself and write a different story, a story that is not that painful in such a long time. Maybe the author wants his characters to impress us but sorry, doesn't really work for me, I only feel pity. Well, maybe this is just not... more>> my taste.

Couldn't help but compare this to Cold Sands, in my opinion the latter wins. <<less

It's not bad but it's not amazing... the main lead I felt him being a brilliant general was kinda weak and mediocre and the king... is just a love sick puppy.. I wish they focus only on their love story for the majority of the novel.

Starting from when general su got captured, is when the storry started to be come a little interesting. But as the plot progresses, it became so interesting that I find hard not to stop reading. In the middle part of the story, I even shed tears because of the sufferings of gen. Su. The little bun (the king's son- crown prince) Is so blackbellied and cute, that I kinda like him more than his father. Lol.

Well, what I can say with this novel... Give it a chance, who knows you... more>> may actually like it. ` (*∩_∩*) ′ I never expected that I would like it to this extent so I gave it 5 stars. Thank you translator (｡･ω･｡) <<less

I ended reading this story about 3 weeks ago. Once I started reading this story, I couldn't put it down and just wanted to find out about the ending. This story is one of the best bl stories I have read so far. A cute fluffy happy-ending story is my thing! Though the story started with angst and violence but I think it was tolerable.

Su Yi is a General captured by the enemy, hence the title. Su Yi himself was just thrust into the role "General" and their country was falling due to their s*upid ruler. Of course, the typical prisoner torture and such happens. Frankly, I liked the extra stories than the main one. Too much angst could have been resolved by proper communication. SuSu goes through so much for things he never deserved. But I still liked the story because it was one of the better ones in this genre.

This was one... more>> of the earliest CN novel I read and I read Xing Bao Er's novels first so I was kind of desensitized to the blatant emotional manipulation and physical ab*se back when I read this, but still -2 stars. The male lead did grovel so there's that too. And +1 star for the adorable son Shuo. <<less

I've never written a review but I feel like this novel deserves one.

I was really worried when I first started this novel that it would be make no sense and be outrageous. But I feel like from each characters perspective it makes some amount of sense.

For example I keep seeing people say they hate how the ML at first is very controlling and 'evil' but then switches quickly to being a lovestruck fool. BUT things like that.. Really happen. Some people just switch from hate to love very easily and... more>> when they DO fall in love they go insane. So I actually enjoyed that aspect.

The only problem I have with this novel (which is why I give it 4/5) is they start to set up possible conflicts within the harem but never do anything with it. The lead concubine CLEARLY hates the MC but never acts on it. They even mention there is NUMERIOUS CONCUBINES but only 1 child. I just wish they would have dived more into issues within the harem.

I laughed, I cried, I binged read to know what happens next. So its a novel worth reading~! <<less

This was pretty fun to read, ML falls in love with MC quite fast even tho he acted shitty towards him. MC tried to kill himself multiple times and stuff. The romance and plot was still fun to read.

This is my first time writing a review. Because this novel managed to bring me to tears. Actually I want to give at least 3.5 stars.

The plot-line is quite good but too short, even though the potential is great.

The so-called potential is like, each character has their own flavor, and some of them have great stories about their past but it's a shame it's too short. Well, besides that it can also be a good inspiration to make a story.

The most commendable can be addressed to how the author wrote... more>> the emotional scene, hey, when it comes to feelings, that part actually managed to make me sob in silence.

There are some flaws that I can't stand, such as the disposition about the identity of each character. The author makes MC's work background as a former general, but he has a soft heart. I really wonder if the author really knows about the word 'General'? And the most basic military? As you know the art of war is all about deception and being kind to your enemies is just as cruel to your allies. Not only MC but also ML and so on. The dispositions of each character honestly don't match up at all.

And another shortcoming is about how the characters deal with some situations........ I feel like I suddenly have a low IQ.

Well, despite that, it's still a good story. <<less

at first I really love the plot but after ch40 or 50 (I dont remember) the story line annoyed me.

after so many trouble ML and MC fall in love but immediately separated for some f*cking misunderstood and shitty plan. Even worse this misunderstood remained about 20 ch and MC could disslove it really fast but he didnt :/

yes all of the novels have something scene like that and I love it too. But for 20 f*cking ch? I really wanted to drop it I just read the end.

but the pa pa scene is good if I want to say other positive points* for my fujoshi sisters:)

so if you want good smut and average story line with some annoying misunderstood you can try it in your free time

I liked it so I gave it 4 stars. It's not the greatest story ever written and its pretty cliche/predictable but that's OK. It has a happy ending and that is one of the most important things for me. Also, I like the main character Su Yi. Wanyang was an ass at the beginning but he grew on me once he stopped torturing Su Yi and did everything he possibly could to make him happy. The one part of the story that annoyed me was after Su Yi was framed, Wanyang should of had that justice department guy investigate the case but he didn't. Ir he would of done that, Su Yi wouldn't of had to suffer ab*se and starvation for 6 months and neither of them would to have had to suffer emotionally either - since at this point Su Yi obviously had feelings for both Wanyang and his son but he refused to tell Wanyang till he though he was dying of an illness.

Basically we have Su Yi who is a defeated General and ends up a prisoner of war. Wanyang Xu is the emperor. Instead of killing Su Yi, he wants him to surrender and join his ranks. Su Yi refuses and is harshly tortured. Wanyang realizes that even if he is starved and beaten, Sun Yi will never surrender and comes up with a more devious plan to try and break him. Pretty early on, the emperor realizes his is in love with Su Yi. Sun Yi is then accused of and admits to a crime he didn't commit. Wanyang is unable to sentence him to death, like his administrators want and instead has him flogged and demoted to a s*ave. The "bad guy" tells the person who is flogging him to only hit his knees, which results in him becoming crippled. For the next 6 months, his is ab*sed/humiliated/starved and almost dies of an illness. Finally, he admits his feelings to Wanyang and in the process it is discovered that he is in fact innocent.

Good general setting but shoddy work on the characters.

ML switches from Mortal Enemy, Torturer and Pe*vert to "Affectionate" and already planning his future around MC.

It's been a few chapters since the sudden switch and there has been absolutely Zero mention of why.

The Author says "why" but it's BS

MC lied to ML about something and then the author turns it into a truth in the next sentence.

This book is worth reading!!!

ML - You can say he's very ruthless at first, but later he becomes the sweetest man you can dream of!!! No matter, how many times he was rejected by the MC, detested by the MC, his love never wavered.

His vision as a ruler, the way he ruled the country, the way he was magnanimous towards citizens were praise worthy!!! You can say as a monarch he did his best.

MC- I'll first go with the characteristics I liked. He was so caring, he whole heartedly loved... more>> the ML though he refused to admit it.

After becoming the Empress, he was a good mother towards the crown prince, that really moved my heart.

MC, a general, who became a war prisoner. Actually I have some complaints about him. As a general, he was brave and so on. But later I felt like he was way too soft hearted, not that he was naive, but when he faced some certain incidents, he was muddled headed, the decisions he made were not suitable for a former general.

Even though the plot is not too good, just because of the fact that it was very emotional, I fell in love. There were times I cried until my eyes out... The situation they were put into was very sad, my heart throbbed for them. But don't worry, ending was a happy one, it made me laugh so hard.

Emperor, empress and the crown prince trio were so adorable, they loved each other, cared for each other. Well, father son duo were always fighting over empress to spend some happy time with him, that was so hilarious, HA HA HAA!!! The way those two always stood up for the Empress was so... okay, I was crying whenever that happened...

First few chapters contain physical and mental ab*se, torture, but later it gets better, the polar opposite of what you read in those chapters. Just give this novel a try, don't worry. It takes only one day to finish this, and you won't regret it. <<less

This novel was My first BL novel l read and really l love it l feel Sorry and sad for MC at like the Last 20 chapters and how he suffering ahhhhh My heart really hurt me even when l remember what happened to him, at some part l feel angry because of him why he just keep his mouth shat and didn’t say anything and just keep suffering and suffering but anyway l really... more>> love this novel so much <<less

Amazing translation!

The first half of the novel had a lot of blackmailing and ab*se (mental + physical), the middle was essentially the development of Stockholm Syndrome+ lots of ANGST, and the ending was actually really cute. While I'm not a huge fan of the toxicity in the first half of the story, I ended up really liking the later chapters when the characters are less stubborn and toxic overall. The story has good pacing and the resolution was satisfactory! Give it a try! Each chapter is quite short (about a... more>> 5 minutes read) and I think the story actually starts to pick up around chapter 50 or so if you're willing to stick with it. <<less

If your looking for pain but also wanted a happy ending (just like me), then this story gotchu fam!

Introducing, the MC's guide on how to suffer but can't die because of the plot! No kidding!

Anyways, I cried from this story. At first I thought it was so-so, but later on when everything got extreme, I was really curious on how they will end up.

To be honest, I'm very pissed with MC's attitude for being a martyr yet I also liked how he treat everyone like a soft-hearted grandma. ML, my... more>> favorite character here, is at first I was very disappointed with him but later on he became very very sweet and nice to MC. I just feel bad about him because he felt really guilty with what's happening to MC.

i thought the story was gonna be oke oke. But it was better than I thought.

ML isn't as forceful as I thought from reading the tags. Although he was in the beginning and in the middle.

there isn't much smut as I thought. They mainly focus on the plotlines.

This story is good. I love it so much. I wonder it is not so popular. To those who are contemplating whether to read this or not. You should give it a try. It has an amount of fluff, slightly angst and heavy angst. But after all the angst, it is full of fluffy time. I love all the characters, especially the little prince.
