The story premise is generic, but you will like it if you are a fan of otome game isekais. The story starts off gradual with him grinding to get strong using his knowledge of the game. Once the academy arc starts, the story starts to get more interesting. The MC isn't a beta and actually uses his brain. It won't be the best novel you'll read but it is enjoyable.

Yeah, no taste, no seasoning, it's a very bland story, with even "blander" characters. The MC has this weird obsession with saving this villainess for no reason other than "simp"athy. And he just gets broken power after broken power, there is no drive for me to read this at all. If you want something light to read, then go ahead, you might like it.

The more I read this, the more I thought I was reading a children's picture book. Every single situation is explained so simply and solved without a hitch. Every character in the novel and MC included feels absolutely void of any qualities or traits and at most, a very basic example of a cliched character. I'd argue most are there just for some needed exposition for our MC's next problem. And so this happens continuously, rinse and repeat. It's utterly plain and on level, if not worse, than those standard... more>> Wuxia novels.

I'd say I had more fun reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar (OG power fantasy btw) than this.

Spoiler

Not to mention a quarter of the story gone until appearance of said villainess.

even if the setting is in feudal system and he's a commoner with high ranking adventurer I think it's possible to clash with a noble, he's OP anyway.

I just love these otome novels, and this one satisfies my craving well enough. My main gripe though, is the introduction of MODERN TECH. I just absolutely hate it. When the glider was introduced, I thought at first it was somewhat to Aang's glider from last airbender. Turns out it was much modern looking and it just kills the fantasy part y'know?

Anyway, I still plan to read it. It's got the right tune for me after all. Just gotta turn my eyes away on some stuff haha.

Okay, so to give my honest opinion. The story was alright. If you are teetering on the edge of should I read this or should I not read this, I say go ahead. In fact, I substituted the available chapters in the manga, and then picked up after in the web novel. I gave this a 4/5 because the story had a few glaring plot holes, and I honestly wished for a better conclusion and wrap up of the story, but the romance towards the end was enjoyable. Author seemed... more>> to really be detailed in some areas, and gloss over other areas quite frequently.
Spoiler

The first time they did it, it was mention maybe twice, and was only one line. I'd like to hear a bit more about the developments to get there, and although I'm not looking for smut, would've liked to at least get their POV after, since its such an intimate act.

Regardless, decent story, and one I could think back on fondly, but nothing more. I wasn't filled with passion, just another story to past the time. <<less

Overall very enjoyable but the setup for the second half conflict was very, very forced. Also, the author seemed to realize he couldn't justify the main character's vulnerability if he kept showing him level up so he just completely stopped showing his stats or level.

The last time they showed it he mentioned that he would have been able to beat the final battle with his current level if he was the original characters, and that was before he went through the most difficult dungeon and started repeating it to level... more>> and farm drops.

Even the "villainess" was made way too weak to have the second half of the story happen. I was really expecting her to save herself.

It was also very surprising to see how brutal they ended things. Even blaming the "heroine" only makes sense as to just how bad things got while the King and Crown Prince could have stopped her at any time up until her endgame form. I took her punishment and previous attempted punishments as the underlying misogyny that seems to pervade LNs, but it's always disappointing to see. Even her character as a former fat girl who wanted male attention just screams cliche stereotype.

All that being said, I really enjoyed the non-crappy characters throughout—which is pretty much everyone except the heroine, her reverse harem, the king, and the eastern empire people. It's really a testament to the characterization of the characters and their relationships that all the very easy-to-fix writing problems don't completely wreck the story.

The romance was also quite great.

Not sure if I'll read chapters ~50/60 through 98 again (or the after-story), but I would enjoy reading everything else.

Edit: There are 17 additional chapters on Syosetsu (though apparently all of the main story content was removed). The first few are cute things with the couple but after that they seem to be having a minor adventure that seems fine but not really seeing any story. I may be judging them a little harshly because they're so short and it hasn't been updated in 5 months, so I'm a little reluctant to give up the wrapped up ending for something that doesn't have the author's attention.

Lastly, I read the afterword on kakuyomu and there the author mentioned they got a lot of grief over Allen's s*upidity. I never thought Allen or Anna acted s*upidly. Their actions made sense for their characters, but what was done to them was forced and they were set up to fail in ways that did not seem believable. It wasn't them being "s*upid", but them going from being able to beat a legendary monster to being taken out by mobs. I think in the entire story Allen only made one real mistake and it would have made sense for some repercussion to come from that in my opinion, just went way too far and was too forced. That being said, Allen does seem more irrational in the after story chapters so if you are someone who thought he was "s*upid" or inconsistent in the main story, then I imagine you'll be more turned off by him in those... but maybe I'm missing something in the machine translation. <<less

I'd say that this is a 4/5 until chapter 65~, after that it's a 3/5.

Overall it's a fun read, and the ending is decent. However, the story is way too simple and so are the villains. There are some good and interesting secondary villains that make the story exciting for a little bit, but unfortunately they get easily disposed of in an underwhelming fashion. The main villains are not worth mentioning, they don't have functioning brains, and only get dumber as the story progresses.

The best thing is that a lot... more>> of the times funny details are sprinkled in the darkest elements of the story, which makes this more enjoyable to read, and confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is dark fantasy parody. Here's my favorite example:

Allen went to war with the neighboring Empire and he decided to bomb the battlefield with grenades and bombs from the air. However he was afraid of inadvertently getting PTSD from all the gore, so what did he decide to do? He said f*ck it and decided to not look at the battlefield, thus avoiding the PTSD. That's a chuckle from me right there. Seriously, why didn't we think of this earlier?

The other pros are:

+ Allen and Anna bang

+ Anna is really cute

+ There are no love triangles or bullsh*t of this sort (simplicity is best)

+ The "heroine" gets what she deserves

Some cons:

- Iffy translation, but understandable enuff

- The revenge only really happens in the very last chapter

- Allen has a tendency to explain some useless stuff as the narrator (he'll talk about his guns and how the grenades or his plane works, which I don't understand thus find boring)

tl;dr: If you're into these kinds of novels, 2/3 of this one are decent and satisfying. The last 1/3 is meh but bearable. <<less

A very decent read. Short novel to pass your time, with a satisfying ending that ended right where it should have (thanks for the extra POV chapter, author). The antagonists have more than a few loose screws in their head so they may be very annoying. Worth spending a while to read if you have nothing else to do.

Boy wakes up in novel setting, and tries to save his lovely mother as best as he can. Using story-knowledge, and his previous life experiences, MC works hard to make a better life. These kind of stories all have a fairly generic plot, so it's is all about the execution.

Good:

  • The MC, Allen, is pretty believable. He has goals, and works at it step-by-step. There isn't a massive powerup from finding a mysterious artifact, nor does he befriend a loli-dragon. Instead, Allen finds a nice utility skill, and slowly builds up his strength and abilities.
  • The pacing is well done. The MC slowly gains strength, but good-use of timeskips keeps the action flowing.
  • Shocking! A human with the emotional intelligence to recognize his own feelings towards others, and not be super-dense nor super-constipated about it! So yeah, no harem
Bad:

  • It is the premise from the start, but it seems the story is driven by a complicated solution to what should be a simple problem.
    Spoiler

To keep his mother and the village safe, Allen settles on a complicated, multi-step plan of running around to gather up valuable skills, earn money, train his skills, increase his strenght, test into a fancypants school, insert himself into a spat amongst high nobles, and fight in a duel. How about just moving to another town?

    [collapse]
    .
  • The time skips are needed to cover a large amount of time, but sometimes it feels like things are left behind. For example, we never really get a sense of what the mother is thinking while her son is running around.
    Spoiler

Like 9 year old Allen is gone for weeks at a time grinding dungeons.

    [collapse]
. I guess she must really trust him.. (To not die).
Ugly:

  • The extra chapter. Definitely can be skipped. The "extra" takes place a bit after the main story, and tells the fate of the True Villain. It is violent, difficult to read, and does not add enough to the overall story to justify reading. The author notes the "extra" chapter came in with R15 restrictions.

Pretty enjoyable read if you can say so. Too much of other person perspective on the beginning but this is first author's work so let it be.

Spoiler

And pretty dumb final battle although it was emotionally fulfilling, because he could just go alone and end the story at any time, but for some reason it was needed to make one more battle for capital

The villain... they're so s*upid braindead with no redeeming quality. Villain that is just bad is sign of bad writing

The MC... beginning is fine but when the final arc comes his brain becomes so smooth that it's infuriating

Spoiler

Firstly he doesn't kill people that matter... why? why not? you know amy is weak af and a lot of problem will be solved if u just killed her

Second he tries to request anything to the king after accomplishing something while mocking him s*upid...I....I just can't understand why MC thought king will honor his promise. The only thing that'll be gained from this is just moral high ground but do you still need more than what already is?

Third the jade order literally mention anna will be wed to the est magician and MC still wonder ooooh where did anna gooooooo??? it's like the author nerfed his brain last second to make more conflict

First half is pretty much a 1:1 carbon copy of Otomege event to event just without mecha and with less nuanced characters. It's the second half where it starts showing its own. The alternate POVs are also pretty interesting even if Amy is such a flat one note villain she might as well grow a mustache and start kicking puppies. The most nuance from her is one line at the beginning about being overweight and bullied as a backstory and from then on it's just paragraphs of delusional self obsessed... more>> ego.

But watching Anastasia and Allen get together is pretty cute and the series is done, so if you need something to consume while waiting for Otomege, this would be serviceable. <<less

So I'll keep this brief. Allen is cool. He's got all the right parts for a mobsekai character. Along side that Anna is genuinely a good person. Her story is beautiful and it's amazing seeing how they both grow. I will say that the first quarter of the book focuses on Allen. After that it's Amy and Anna for a fair bit of time. So bare with that.

It's a decent novel ngl. Felt a bit fast paced, but looking at it now, I think the pacing was perfect. No too many chapters of unnecessary fillers, short and to the point. I've often had this problem with isekai protagonists where they don't use modern technology and knowledge to the fullest. Here, not only does this guy uses modern knowledge to the fullest, he creates an eco friendly plane and a bomb. Needless to say, mother Nature approves. Though, I do think that as a fully grown adult he... more>> had a responsibility to guide Amy, but then again she was a gone case, though I'd have insulted Amy for getting such low scores in such a world too ngl. Her scores were BAD BAD. Also they let the villains get away waaay too many times. They should've killed them already, instead of delaying their deaths and causing the death of so many people. Anyways I'll recommend this novel, it's a good read <<less

Though the book is pretty good I do get annoyed by inconsistencies about the main characters previous life's Hobby's.

Spoiler

the main one being that he calls himself a gun guy, but the author obviously knows nothing about gun. He gets some things right like the ak-47 being made by Kalashnikov, but then says to get better penetrative power you go lower in caliber (which might actually work with the mechanics of his magic gun but is not at all how real ones work).

Eh, it's ok. If it weren't for the fact that this particular genre (male lead into an otome game) has a depressing lack of content (it's ok, maybe in the future there will be more! we're just too fast for society~), this wouldn't be worth reading at all.

There's a lot of copying from MobuSekai going on, though it does try to retain it's individuality. Unfortunately, despite the author delivering on what I want for the most part (male protag in otome game), in terms of skills the author is just...... more>> dreadfully lacking. Terrible melodramatic moments that are incredibly forced in (as noted by other reviewers), Deus ex Machina all the freaking time, and even the author's decision to make the MC OP in the beginning all come back to bite.

Plus, not going to lie, but I DESPISE the trope of bring guns to a fantasy world. It's one thing if it's part of the world already, like a steampunk fantasy or something, but when the MC is 'oh yeah, last life I was a gun otaku, so watch me bring guns and bombs to a pure fantasy world!!' is just obnoxious. So yeah, the MC learns swordsmanship... then promptly never uses it. And I mean NEVER. But it's ok, he's got 2 AKs and a shotgun, as well as a plane he uses to bomb everyone. Because he was an aerospace engineer last life... and a gun otaku... and so on and so on. He himself is used as a Deus ex Machina to make sure whatever side he's on wins the war, regardless of how much they shouldn't.

The romance between him and the Villainess (no harem) is pretty decent, but it's again marred by the fact the author forces terrible scenes just to add drama. Supposedly the villainess has 2 blessings, which only the Crown Prince does, and she was in charge of the Knightly Order, and she has good magic skills (really good ones)... and yet she gets kidnapped all the time, has to get protected all the time, never dodges, gets almost killed a bunch of times...

So yeah, there's some hardcore White Knight Syndrome going on with the author, and it really brings the novel down. If it weren't for the fact that there's a happy ending, with the 'Main Heroine (aka, the psychotic witch who's also a reincarnator) and her brainwashed harem getting some good karma punishment, I'd rate this a 1 or a 2.

Maybe not a 1, as I DID finish reading it, but it really is low quality. I wish the genre had more content in general, so that we could enjoy the better titles and the worse titles would sink to the bottom... <<less

Somewhat interesting start, though kinda generic trope I like how MC just keeps on taking everything he needs to be OP. But down a star for me because of OG heroine & her harem as its one of those they never learn from their mistake & overly selfish until death, though she did deserve it, I didn't really need to know what happened in the extra story, kinda messed up for me.

Well most of the story is kinda cliche so you can guess most of what will happen. Not really... more>> that bad but also not that good. Story pacing seems quick, rpg-game elements were a letdown for me as it is not really necessary, I don't remember if people other than the MC have skills, they have jobs system but MC quickly became OP using guns so skills became pointless. <<less

I enjoyed reading this light novel. I really don't why some people are giving hate this LN that much. MC is intelligent and also quite strong. MC isn't dense when he realises he has feeling for fMC. FMC is also quite smart. MC and fMC realtionship really wholesome. Overall, an above average experience, nothing big. But yeah, the writing could be much more better. :)
