Very good story - loved many characters. Loved there was no true “white flower” character - one has to fight for what they want and good life, just being good or virtuous doesn’t mean good things will happen but also one should not be tyrannical to people for no reason.

Feel like it was a little too much to have He Yuan spend his whole life pining for the Empress. Despite having a full life, makes one feel desolate.

Story was probably good and novel in 2013, but now too many with better plot and less gaps exist (like how she knows everything and why he suddenly values her so much, when she was dying because of neglect few days ago). Also quite boring in general. And I don’t understand why translator decided to use so many Chinese terms, even for such simple words like servant, young girl, concubine etc. I am not even starting on all these brothers; er de told didi I that er di went... more>> to his fu, would be a normal sentence from this translation :) <<less

I really like almost all of the author’s works, and the translation team too! I guess if you’ve read so many Chinese novels that are alike, you start to be able to differentiate those with qualities in the plot and story telling vs. Those that are less experienced.

From other reviews, some people may think the plot is too slow, I really don’t mind this. It made me felt how calm and a bit lazy the heroine is.

Both MC and ML has flaws compared to the author’s other ones, but both... more>> are committed in their actions. They solved a lot of conflicts decisively and in a smart manner. And a lot of times, their actions provoked my own opinions as well.

I super appreciate the translators for high quality work! <<less

This is a 100% fluff story. ML and FL are basically Mary Sue and Gary Stu with protag halo... but sometimes you just want cotton candy - this story is for those times.

There is some dogblood and face slapping aided by the protag halo, but everything goes so smoothly I kinda got bored halfway through. Decent enough that I finished reading.

Translator also makes some strange choices on things to keep in pinyin vs translating for meaning, but didn't affect me much cos im familiar with most pinyin terms. But warning... more>> for those who aren't - the first few chs will be awkward to read. <<less

Love this story so much. It's so good, it's the first story on my list of recommendations. Never a dull time. The face slapping scenes are truly satisfying. Every bit of this story is exquisite and magnificent that I think I almost jotted down every complementary adjectives I could find to praise this story.

QQJ is someone I admire lol. She's cunning and beautiful. She's not impulsive, she's the calculative and calm type. Love when she doesn't get swayed by men, I mean by HH lmao. I absolutely love them as... more>> a couple.

This is a story where you can really find an independent female lead. She's all on her own and I love her for that. I'm on my knees for this type of female lead. Can't get enough of the female power QQJ radiates.

I can't believe I learned so much from a fictional character. I noted down numerous quotes that I think is worth to carry for a lifetime. Extremely grateful for the author for making this story and for the translators who made such an excellent effort in translating the story. I'm smitten. <<less

yeah, I'm not fond with ML at first but gradually I really like him. Even sometimes I feel he is so pitiful since MC is a bit cold toward him. MC is really great, I'm impressed how she never lost her temper bcs s*upid people. Yeah she is angry once but bcs ML almost got hurt. She is amazing woman. Their love are so admirable.

many characters are so annoying and eventually got what they deserved. But one character made me uncomfortable. It's He Yuan. His special chapter in epilogue doesn't make me pity him. The fact he still thinks abt MC until his death but has wife and son beside him, really make me feel not good at all. I'm think he never love MC as person, but a memory. I mean yeah you can't control heart and both him and his wife never love each other. Still.. I don't like him. Even his character has good development, I can't forget at first he treated women as plaything.

I didn't get why others called this "boring" when they know that there's a 'slice of life' tag. This story is one the most realistic ''modern-women -transmigrated-into-ancient-times'' story, no mary sue female lead, no cheats, no system, no agent/assassin/ doctor, just a normal girl in modern times who transmigrated into ancient times and married a prince. The FL handles her affairs well, she knew her boundaries and where she's good at and not.

One of the earliest novels I have read. This story is pretty laid back that even though the setting is historical (which I seldom read) and slow (patience limited), my attention is won by it till the end.

I like the MC a lot because she is a modern woman who worked hard but since she crossed over, her life slowed down which she took advantage off and enjoyed. Yes, she schemes. Unlike other MCs I read, her schemes seems subtle but very effective. She knew how the games are played... more>> without over doing it which I loved about her.

ML on the other hand... it is hard to believe that a man like that will exist in ancient times considering the fact that men are more cared for than women which inflates their ego... But I guess his mother played a bigger role in turning him like that because she has a wise and strong character. The mother, to me is so awesome that it was such a shame she didn't exist in the modern world and met a man fit for her instead of that pathetic ancient ruler.

There is no serious and hardcore twisted villians here. No angst either. The fact that both the MC and ML has a brain made their lives quiet, safe, and peaceful. The villians are lacking in the brain department which I think, made them live a life that is unsatisfactory and miserable (in their standards). <<less

This was phenomenal. MC was hella boss and the author had a deft hand in incorporating a realistic interpretation of a strong modern woman in an ancient setting.

I’m personally in favor of the heart guarding aspect. I kept thinking of Yeats while reading:

Never give all the heart, for love

... more>> Will hardly seem worth thinking of

To passionate women if it seem

Certain, and they never dream

That it fades out from kiss to kiss;

For everything that’s lovely is

But a brief, dreamy, kind delight.

O never give the heart outright,

For they, for all smooth lips can say,

Have given their hearts up to the play.

And who could play it well enough

If deaf and dumb and blind with love?

He that made this knows all the cost,

For he gave all his heart and lost.

A thousand kudos to the author and translator that allowed me the honor of reading. <<less

Good story for light reading to pass the time. I never really had any tension or doubts, and it was predictable if you've read other stories in this genre, but it was still enjoyable. As is common, how good-looking the FL/ML are is frequently mentioned. How attractive the FL is is actually kind of important to some plot points. Still, I didn't find it too annoying compared to some others. The last arc felt kind of tacked on, but overall the pace was pretty good and it didn't drag on.

Note... more>> on the translation, since it came up in a lot of other reviews complaining:

I honestly don't think you can ask for much more. It's not what I call amazing but it's not bad either. Yes, there are pinyin terms, but they're defined and a lot of them are both important for the social hierarchy that's integral to the story and don't have an easy English equivalent. Some are there for flavor. They also aren't obscure, so if you've read a few stories in this genre before you're probably familiar with at least most of them. The sentence structure/phrasing definitely reads like it's translated, but it's a step up from MTL. <<less

This chapter really gives me a bittersweet feeling. Idk whether I should simpaty or not toward HY. But, this is a pretty good ending for him. Though he only can longing for someone he couldnt have his entire life... :' (Just wonder, what kind of ending we got if HY marry QQJ... Can he treat QQJ better than HH? Will he become the better person? Or this is just his desire only since he’s the kind person that cant accept something that should belongs to him actually had been... more>> taken by somebody else :) :) :)

This novel really good. But this novel just portrayed a love story between MC and ML only, theres no complicated plot between the princes, no complicated plot inner countryard/harem it just potrayed how the ML shows his love to MC in every ways. What I can say, QQJ is such simple MC where as she just follow the flow on how people on her environment treated her. Such a cool character and kind but still lacking somewhere yeahh because she just a simple person so you cant expect more from her. <<less

This is really good. It’s realistic, no love in first sight sh*t (for both main leads). I would recommend those that is not familiar with imperial language to read a few of those before reading this because most of the imperial title is not translated. Hey, you can also brush up your skills in imperial language.

I like how the storyline gradually evolves, doesn’t make someone not keep up with the pace.

Though the last part about shu guifei poisoning the imperial son with tainted blood is a bit out of the blue. Maybe the author is trying something new. The love between He Heng & Qu Qing Ju does makes one envy. I know this is far-fetch and some might say that this is all just fiction but I do hope I meet someone like that and experience something like that, no matter how far-fetch it is everyone can always dream.

Read up to chapter 48. It is a good read. I have read a lot of ancient chinese novels. ML is surely captivated by the MC. No angst yet. I guess I will have to wait till the end.

I am regretting so much that I didn't read this before and I want to delete all my memories just so I can reread this. I am seriously in love with this novel. I wanna say that if MC was real, I'd worship her seriously she is the best protagonist ever. I never thought I would see a character where I can relate this much. MC and ML's love really left me with tears. I loved how MC always supported women I loved how she knew how women were treated... more>> in the past and wanted to help them. I loved how she didn't trust ML's words of love. He was a wangye and the king later so she knew how nearly impossible to believe an ancient man saying he'll love her forever and won't take any concubines. I loved how strong she was I loved everything about her. The plot, the characters, the drama, the fight for the throne, the love between our couple like everything was so well-thought and so beautiful. I loved the translation too. The way the translator kept some words in Chinese really made the novel more majestic and beautiful. I am thinking about what to write but can't even find the words it was just too beautiful. I felt like I was in a dream and I've witnessed everything that has happened. It was like a very beautiful dream I didn't wanna wake up at all

**** one more thing that I love a lot about this novel is that I really can't blame the characters aside from a few who were blatantly evil. The era and family you grew up in really affect how you view the world. This is why I can't blame those little girls or the brothers of ML. That's why our MC didn't believe the ML. He grew up thinking it was ok to play with girls, take in concubines, etc it really is noteworthy how the ML chose to become the different one <<less

When u read a novel it's trully like love, u could falling in love at first chapter then continue with turbulence but steady until the end or fall out in the middle. Another is hate / maybe indifference at first the gradually falling in love after your senses experience more, then the love could continue until the end with limitation you have or the feeling fall out in the end.

glad I finally decided to read this. It's slow but the plot was written so well. I cannot say anything anymore. But I really like this novel!!! One of the novels I will reread over and over!! There's a lot of fluffy moments. Compared with 8TT, this one, though you can feel that there could be a lot of scheming in the background but it wasn't the focus of the story.
Top recommended!!!

The ending. In my opinion, MC doesn't love the ML deeply nor does the ML.

If the MC didn't catch the ML with the concubine, do I think he would cheat? I think he might but gradually.

I like how the MC acknowledged that she could keep him for a lifetime but not forever.

In my eyes, they love each other but the same way an 'old' couple does. Hmm I can't seem to explain it. Not passionately?

If the ML took a concubine in, I wonder how MC would act. Probably ignore the emperor? Raise and protect her children? Or will she leave with her children and start anew? Go with the foreigners that speak English... Idk
