I rarely write reviews but... this is a tear-jerker y'all! We follow the characters from children to adults then to elders. This is a story about life, love, and death! The story is exactly what it says

"This is a story of a female Prime Minister from a matriarchal society that kept climbing up the official ranks while falling in love when she transmigrated into a patriarchal society."

In the FLs previous life, she was a Prime minister where women ruled the world. Her character is domineering, flirtatious, stubborn, warm, and kind.... more>> I really want to spoil it like I do other books on Goodreads but all I have to say is that you should prepare your tissues.

Everyone from her childhood group got wiped-out except the FL, her ML, Heng, and Wang once the book ended. And that just makes me sad. We have seen these kids grow up, and go from laughing, drinking, and having fun while partying TO betrayal, and death.

I'm surprised this doesn't have a tragedy tag. Although there weren't major tragedies between the Main leads, tragedy was happening around them or because of them. It was a fun read, especially at the start, but I have to be honest things started to get serious and angsty from the middle to end. OF COURSE, there are light moments but not the type of consistency at the start where everyone was carefree and running around. Maybe in another life we could've saved all the MLs and put them in a harem? LOL! Sorry y'all I'm a why-choose reader! But anyways..

I have a bittersweet relationship with this genre. I can't place my finger on what specific word it's called but it's that type of genre where it follows the character throughout their whole life. There's a lot of character growth, and some might say character decline. You can't help but feel nostalgic for the youthful characters when you notice such a change now that they're older. Relationships were brought closer, then next thing you know they are separated like how Moses did the Red Sea LOL. I feel VERY bitter when it came to the FL and Heng (Her best friend) relationship, but it's whatever.

The world-building is nice, and if you watch C-drama you can't help but to imagine every scene.

How I feel after this story is..." things happen, it is what it is. And I can't think of what I will change about this book. I'll say some things were doomed and some were fortunate from the start. You can't avoid fate, so you should continue moving forward."

Give this book a try! The MTL is good, and very understandable most of the time! There is a bittersweet happy ending but for our Main protagonist the "Pompous and outstanding female x Facial paralysis Vinegar king male." I guess you say it's still bittersweet. We briefly see them when their hair is gray! When they're elders!

Warnings:

There are no weird things that are mainly seen in ancient Chinese stories like r*pe or underage interc*rse. It kinda reminds me of watching an American teen show when it does come to stuff like that. When they are older and adults there are spicy scenes so be prepared for that.

Anyways whenever I'll pass this book, I will always smile! <<less

Don't know how to review lol. Just wanna tell something for people trying to read this

  • I thought this will be like the usual transmigration novel where MC showing everyone how awesome she is and then they will worship her, but this is more serious
  • This is historical romance so expect more of kingdom political scene rather than cultivation or fighting
  • MC don't have cheat item/memory, She also isn't OP. MC will be shown to sacrifice some to acquire her career
  • My favourite aspect is there are character development in this novel

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WEBNOVELS I HAVE EVER READ! I rushed to MTL the novel to finish it. The best part of this novel is the character development - no character stays in their little 2D box that was set up in the first part of the novel and actually change (whether in a good or a bad way). I came into this novel enjoying the lighthearted flirtiness of the female lead, and the cute boys she teases but this novel is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. The... more>> further you read through this novel the more invested you become in knowing how these characters mature and deal with various situations. You will laugh and cry, and cry some more but the ending is a happy one and well worth the journey to get there.

The novel has many deep and thoughtful themes running through it. For me especially, I was hit by the author's portrayal of the conflict between genders, and I am so proud of how the female lead is able to adjust her worldview but also stick to her guns (aka, she refuses to hide behind a man or relinquish her male identity as would be expected of a woman of that time). I also loved the author's portrayal of good and evil - no one is inherently good or bad. In fact, some people could have been good if they had the right environment to grow up in, just as people who were originally good can become 'bad' in their pursuit of justice or their good intentions.

All in all, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NOVEL to people who love strong female leads, beautiful men, REALISTIC RELATIONSHIPS (the author is able to very clearly show how a good relationship should be, by showing how the different men surrounding the FL are suitable/unsuitable).

I am a VERY picky reader, and very few novels get rave reviews from me so...! <<less

This novel is really worth it...... when I read the discription, I thought it was like any other transmigration novel where the girl is transmigrated from 21th century to ancient. Generally in these type of novels MC will rise by using her wit and attract the males around her, even though she is somewhat independent when compared to women in that era but at the end of the story she has to has stand behind the ML for everything and stay in the house to take care of the children.... more>> But this novel is totally different and refreshing. she came from the world where females are master of the house. she knew that in the current world that she is staying males are dominant so she disguised as a male. I thought like any other novel in the end she will compromise to the world and stay behind a man but no she never compromised. At beginning she believed that men are weak so they need to be protected no matter whichever world but as the story goes on she slowly accepts the fact that men are not less talented than women. Her character is really refreshing and hilarious as she flirts and pampers every man she sees as she thinks that as a women she has to protect them. But since she is a crossdresser those moments are quite weird and hilarious. The thing which makes it quite different from other transmigration stories is that in other transmigration stories the author never showed/mentioned to us about the struggle of FLs trying to be a person of the world where women are treated unfairly since they came from the world where equality is believed. But in this novel we can see the struggle of FL as she is trying to find a place in this world while trying to be herself and keep her beliefs. There is no dog blood fights in this novel.

The antagonist in this novel are not at all s*upid (I will not like to call them villains since they are doing it for survival, power and all just like the main leads) and I even cried when they died.

when the third male lead was dying, FL asked him if she was also like any other women being shy, reserved and not independent would he like her but he said that he wouldn't even notice her and in the last moment before his death he said to her to be herself and live well. At that moment the FL cried really hard for the first time because he was the only person who understood her and said to be herself while in this world no matter how much she is changing herself, compromising everyone are saying that it is not enough. She came from the world where she is can proudly say that she is a women but now she is living as a man just for a chance to show her talent. Even though she knew that once her identity is known to the world, she will be beheaded for the crime of deceiving the monarch but still she wants to live rising her head.

The FL has a hard time trying to trust the ML regarding her gender bcuz she know that all the men who claims to love her, once they know about her gender they will make her give up everything and stay behind in the house in the name of protection (she knows very well about that since she once believed like that in her world but gradually changed her view). As she expected once they knew they wanted to cut her wings so the male lead which was disappointing. I don't want to say it but I was little dissatisfied with the ML becuz the FL had bowed down countless times from the strat while trying to accept this world (in her previous world she was a prime minister below one person and above thousands) the ML as soon as he knew that she was a female he asked her when she was going to retire from the court and wanted her to accept the rules followed by his world just becuz he was jealous that she is surrounded by many men in the court. Later he tried to accept her views but I don't think so that he ever tried to sympathise with her (it can be considered as she fell from sky to mud at once and lost everything, her status, her family and the world where she can proudly announce herself as a women).

I read it in MTL and even cried at many moments so we can say that it MTL of this novel much better. <<less

This is another great work by Mo Shu Bai. The story start as our heroine being reborn in ancient China where the world being dominated by man and woman become 2nd class citizen. Our heroine Wei Lan is a women who came from a world that works otherwise.

She changed her identity with her brother and become the lord of their house and her story begins....

I really love all the characters, esp Wei Hua our heroine twin brother. He is a delicate man who loves to wear women clothes because it's... more>> beautiful. He tried his best to help his sister in his own way. He has his own love story with another girl disguise as a man LOL.

Our MC and ML both start as a someone that we can call 'chauvinist male pig'. But at the end of the story both of them learn that both gender are strong, there's no such a thing male of female is weaker.

Our ML Xie Zichen start of as someone who accept himself that he likes a man, to try to keep Wei Lan at home after he realizes she's a woman and finally at the end he knows Wei Lan didn't need his protection.

Give it a try if you want to read something different. <<less

I have no words left. Kudos to author!

This story looks kinda light hearted but as is the case in this author other novels, the story serves us a deep psychological feeling. The characters really seems alive. They are not perfect. They each have dark sides. They live in the grey area, abide by their own morals and bottom line. MC and ML dynamics are very refreshing and touching.

Truly a beautiful story. And I love the fanwai!

Haven't read it yet but since it's the work of the same author as "The Grand Princess" I just know it be great read! Also the first chapter is fascinating :) So don't listen to the naysayers. Will have to MTL though...

This novel hits many of my favorite story elements.

We've got a strong, bada$$ FL cross dressing as a boy. We've got an icy ML with a sad back story who is adorably confused by his growing feelings for FL. Although they're rivals for recognition and achievements, they still support each other behind the scenes, maintaining a strong unbreakable bond between them. Sounds pretty good so far, right?

The only thing I can't get behind is FL's personality. Have you read any stories that have a "shameless flirt"-type character? Typically it's a... more>> man who thinks he is God's gift to woman. Every woman he meets is a delicate, gentle flower in need of his pampering, but sadly he can only satisfy a small number of the many woman on earth in his lifetime. This is FL'S attitude towards men.

She shamelessly flirts with any handsome man she meets (remember she's dressed as a male so her actions typically fill their recipients with disgust), bombarding them with cheesy pickup lines and a patronizing attitude of pampering and forbearance towards the weaker and less intelligent gender. If the author approached this in a humorous way, it could have been hilarious. But unfortunately, it's executed in the normal way you see in romance novels (just the gender of the offender is opposite your expectation).

FL believes woman are superior to men--but not for any legitimate female-specific reasons. This isn't a story about "celebrating woman as woman"; it's a story where all of the typical gender stereotypes associated with men and woman are flipped. So in her original world, woman are associated with high military and political achievements, domineering personalities and overtly s*xual flirtations, while men are associated with being weak, silly, overly romantic and only good for looking at and warming beds. Regardless of gender, this whole attitude is just disgusting to read and not something I wanna see in an MC.

As the story continues, FL begins to respect ML and is surprised to see that he is just as intelligent and talented as herself. While the author does provide us hope that FL and ML can have an equal, fulfilling relationship in the future, I don't think I can hang on long enough to see it.

Still, if the aboce points don't hit any of your pet peeves, I can recommend this novel for fans of political, historical and romantic novels. <<less
