Truthfully this is a really unique and interesting novel that I have recently taken to. It's a shame their aren't many chapters and the chapters feel a little short but still pack enough. The translation is of good quality their are some sentences that don't quite mesh together right or seem to get the original translations intended meaning across but these are few and the overall translation is still very good. Highly recommended

Top-tier con artist MC.

Honestly his gaslighting skills alone make this series a must read. It's peak entertainment watching him scheme, he's a manipulation genius even Lee Kiyoung could pick up a thing or two from him. His quick wit and snap decision making have surprised me more than once. If you're into MCs who fabricate their entire past to manipulate people, this series is for you.

I don't agree with complaints in other reviews about MC being weak. The whole shtick of the novel is about a weak protag struggling to... more>> survive in a martial arts world, relying solely on his wit to gaslight people. If you prefer OP munchkin MCs who also gaslight, that's a different subgenre. You might enjoy Fated to be loved by villains if that's your thing.

On the other hand, when MC's not pulling tricks, he's kinda bland to read about, and dense about love too... Writing can get overly wordy, though there are rare moments where I enjoy the flowery language, I read edited MTL so I can't complain too much about the writing style. I do have a slight issue with the fan translation from SkyDemonOrder, they leave many terms untranslated making it hard to follow sometimes. The worldbuilding, linear plot and heroines are pretty average, if you've read a few good murim series this one offers more of the same. The author should've cut out a ton of filler, like the parts (light spoiler alert in early arcs) where he's a woodworker or storyteller.

But despite all that, his shenanigans make it a worthwhile read. <<less

A novel with great world-building.

The character interactions are lovely, the MC is eloquent and I've found most situations realistic, it's a very entertaining novel.

However, there are some frustrating situations, namely the main-character lack of self-improvement and some forced situations.

... more>> The main character is a story writer, his strength mostly lies in his wits, meaning he also should have high intelligence.

This same character with high intelligence keeps getting his ass handled by destiny, he can't catch a break.

Robbed thrice. One time was when he conveniently fought with his guard and she was not present and was almost getting his ankles cut, had a difficulty surviving fleeing for one year, had to live in a deplorable shack infested by rats and having to lie down on straws, got a knife put on his throat by an assassin and had to think fast to survive, etc etc.

Almost everything good that happened to him as of now is also a setup to a bad situation he will inadvertently find himself in. It's pretty much forced at this point, give the guy a break.

Another frustrating point; he's a weakling. A weakling with little self-agency.

Worse yet, a weakling that doesn't seem to have the will to improve. And this is quite forced by the storyline, since the story seems to want him to continue being a weakling despite what he realized.

What he realized? That strength matters in a world where authorities won't protect you. So, he should seek a way to strengthen himself right? But nah, he does nothing, because????

It's quite bad. In the first chapters he already sought a martial art in order to evade stabbings, he already understood that if he is without strength, he will be considered lesser than others and will be at the mercy of thug's, robbers and other criminals. What he does to improve this? Nothing, he doesn't try to join a sect, he doesn't try to learn new martial arts. Heck there's an incredibly powerful assassin right next to you that has an favorable impression of you and doesn't want to see you in harm's way, what both characters do to improve his self-defense skills? Nothing.

He could have asked her for her teachings, once you've found enough financial stability learn some skills for self-defense but nah. The MC has to continue being miserable, unlucky and impotent, having only his tongue to speak himself out of dangerous situations because this is what the story seems to be going for.

I don't even want him to get op. Just powerful enough to not get crippled by random mobs. Without his bodyguards he's nothing.

Overall 4/5 but this is frustrating and I hope it gets better. Would be an easy 5/5 if it gets sorted out. <<less

This is hit or miss. On one hand, the MC is a cunning rogue and should be fun to read about. In practice, however, he's more of a dry leaf just fluttering in the wind, doing whatever the story demands of him with no agency of his own. The heroine of the first arc also pissed me off. ... more>>
Spoiler

She submits fake evidence that the MC's family has committed treason simply because she wants to stop the marriage, because she heard rumors that the MC is not a nice guy, but never faces any consequences for it, even after MC's entire family has been executed and she "steals" all his money (actually gifted to him by the MC, because... why?). She of course learns that she screwed up, but it's too late for her to do anything since everyone's dead. So she just cries to the MC, who rightfully GTFOs.

[collapse]
She's just a useless woman who shits all over the bed and then cries about it when others clean up her mess. I guess it comes from the author's experience in dealing with Korean women? Thankfully it seems like she f*cks off after the first arc.

In case you're wondering, this was translated up to chapter 118 by Sky Demon Order before being DMCA'd, but you can find it on other sites. <<less

This is simply the the most uniquely written dialogue and character interactions in a wuxia setting. MC is not a power creeping martial artist thats using meta knowledge of his transmigration to speedrun the world. Hes really living in it and going through the world. Everything as it is written is just refreshing and right.

One of the most interesting novel that I have ever read with amazing characters & MC. The MC is weak through and through with little talent for martial art, he also face extreme discrimination & distrust because of his appearance. There is no systems, no OP power to help him. He solves most of his problems though his wits, his mouth & his cleverness. His ultimate goals is to find the true heroine, for that, he has to become rich & famous. In the sea of OP MC novels solving... more>> problems with a flick of a finger, seeing this MC have setback after setback but ultimately rise to the top without rely on strength or violence refreshing. And yes, this will turn off a lot of readers.

Although this is a 'writer type' novel, unlike many others, MC have to earns it through blood & tear. That's why you won't find him publishing any successful book until very late into the story.

The story is very detail & slow-paced to flesh out the world, the conversation & the characters' personalities. The story devide by Arc, each follow a heroine with their own problems. Each Arc lasts hundreds of chapters, well excep Arc 1, additionally the MC will continously face hardships, this will make lots & lots of chapters end with cliffhanger, easily make you frustrating sometime.

The romance is very, very, very slow burn. Dont be fooled by Arc 1, as a introductory Arc & special circumstance, the romance bloom fast. But MC original role is to die, a stepping stone, that's why to survive he has to lies, building trust with the heroines, whom have their own struggles to overcome. Yes this is a harem but it feels natural & not force at all. His feelings are genuine & ready to accept responsibilities

Overall, after reading over the course of 1 week with 611 chapters this is a 9.5/10 for me. Highly recommended. <<less

A good read but like most of novels, some issues become so glaringly obvious that they become downright annoying.

Spoiler

Like one review said about the first heroine, no matter what the MC says about not caring about his family because he is a transmigrator, what she did was a sin. She literally got a whole family killed and got many women sold to govt brothel where they were used like toys, oh oh but she saved them later so it's alright lmao.

[collapse]

it didn't bother me much because she hasn't been shown much but later down the line it became obvious that only one with any consideration for others is MC. He is the only one who has to take girls' circumstances and mental condition into account. But he doesn't deserve any recognition because he is doing this with ulterior motives? Even tho girls don't know about it? Even tho he clearly says and thinks that he will save all of them and take responsibility? Da fuq

I hate the pink haired heroine the most now. Her whole character is just revolved around jealousy for the most of the arc, and she never reflected or apologized for the troubles it caused even when that kind of behavior wad uncalled for. <<less

A very good novel with an amazing cast and a great protagonist. The drama is well-executed and keeps things engaging.

However, the protagonist, while intelligent, is heavily protected by plot armor—without luck, his schemes would likely get him killed.

There is an overarching plot, but so far, it hasn’t been deeply explored.

Another potential downside is that each heroine gets a long arc, but after that, they are separated from the protagonist for a time, with a promise to reunite later. That said, they don’t disappear entirely; their current situations are revisited in... more>> various chapters, keeping them relevant to the story.

Overall great romance novel. <<less

This is a unique and culturally blended Wuxia. The author really went all out in developing the world and characters in this story. It has all your cliche tropes but so well blended with twists and turns, you find yourself loving it as you read. I can’t talk about more without spoiling so I’ll leave this to the readers to read and make their own discoveries.

The pacing is very slow and barely has anything happened in 25 chapters.

The MC while being good and smart, doesn't really have an objective other than surviving.

This novel seems to be one of those self-improvements stories where we slowly see the MC making money and a name for himself. Which is fine I guess but not something I expected or wanted when starting this novel.

Like literally the past like 5-7 chapters are:

Spoiler

The MC working as a construction worker

Then he starts telling stories to fellow workers to improve his reputation and make money

Then MC fianlly has enough money to leave, and what does he do? He goes to another town and starts telling more stories and make more money

[collapse]

Seven chapters of MC doing the same thing but in different locations. What's interesting about reading this?

A good author would realize this and instead of making this part 7 chapters long, he would have told it in like two or three chapters

I'm intrigue by the concept but Imo the author is given us too many details about everything the MC does

I will read for a few more chapters to see if it changes my mind, I'll edit this if it does

The story has crazy beginning, not in a bad way but in a good way but, damn do I always curious what would happen on the next chapter. This is not a really a review. I have a great time reading it from chapter 1 to 47. Absolutely recommend reading it, though if you dislike weak protagonist (in term of strength as in combat) then this might be not for you.
