So far I've loved the novel though it does contain the annoying over reminder of the MC and MC related characters above the norm or "God Like" ability that is present in many Chinese Wuxia or Wuxia like novels. Or other segments such as "Silence was a CC effect, which stopped a character from activating skills. If a player was put into this condition, players usually said they were "silenced"." This is not needed at all and serves no purpose, we are nearing 700 Chapters yet these fillers are not... more>> edited out.

I've come across a number of inconsistencies in the novel and I have no idea who to message about this, it bugs me that they exist and that I don't know who to contact haha. <<less

Loved it! It kept me on my toes. Whether it be the anime or the web novel, I personally love it for what it was. Repetitive events, plot holes or not.. whatever! xD I'm here for the ride. I don't plan on pursuing any deeper that that, but I do love guessing the future events. In the early chapters, I saw some hints to future plot lines like the method of obtaining skills I felt that it could be a possible event etc etc~

I do have to praise my beloved... more>> cannon fodder, Blue Rain! He's too adorable! Every time he is stuck between a rock and a hard place, I can't help but wishing I could give him a hug! He is cursed... cursed by the author! hahaha You can practically smell his exhaustion with ML

and yet still help manage ML's guild when he was asked! Such a good babysitter hahaha

I really hope that he joins with Ye Xiu. I know it is practically impossible, but I still can't help but hope. <<less

Thumbs up for the comedy & character interactions :) story is developing & isn't about MC being OP (he is one of the best but he did lose some of the championships) as some fans in the story do support other club's Pro Players etc. The characters build up story is good (MC using despicable methods to return, loves the game & does have a life plan or will return to his family when he's done (will be explained later), SuMucheng's childish behavior, SteamedBun's being an airhead etc

for every single... more>> character in the story). Scenario of hardcore gamers/addicts.

The plot does grow as it goes especially after 350+ chapters onward & just like football waiting for that 1 moment of action "comedy" to happen as you read.

If there's demerit it would be majority of the combat narrations : skill names

& repetitive to readers, basically a wall of text every details of the fight & weapon stats. Only some of the combat narrated is worth while.

    • Do not tie this story with VR, scene is always story characters in front of PCs.
    • Game settings is very common for Wuxia type of Chinese MMOs. (Open world PK etc & likely adapted from it)
    • This story is a FICTION-comedy, might not be everyone's cup of tea.
PS : Chapters on the ninja 'Deception' is gold. (",) <<less

Great novel, picked up after watched first episodes of anime. Like it more than Moonlight Sculptor and likes.

Its advantage is its very straightforward story - there is clear goal, clear obstacles and a path to reach the goal the MC goes. So no pointless filler, unnecessary plot elements and aimless bloating as many novels do.

Really nice novel. Although there are some inconsistencies here are there, they can be neglected. Nice character stereotypes and their back ground stories. Nice depiction on pro gaming scene. Although I want the MC character to develop faster and see how the author will depict pro matches, considering they have like 18 volume, I think I will have to wait until volume (7) to those matches to appear.

Nicely written on gaming scene and if you compare this to VR genre novels, this is way too realistic and good in a... more>> different way. I am really looking forward to read more of this. <<less

One of it's kind in translated novel, it's a MMO instead of VRMMO and there's no superpower or supernatural happening. Only player skills and characters interaction.

The LN starts off rather refreshing; the idea is quite different than the standard VR story line. However, the story does get very repetitive.

Naturally, being a retired pro player, Ye Xiu is extremely good at the game. Using his skill he continuously sets new records for the dungeons in the new server. Although at first it's interesting, it becomes rather bland when that's basically all he does for at least half the LN.

There are definitely good aspects to the LN: it's not focused on exp grinding, skill isn't completely determined by stats, and it offers a lot of background. <<less

TKA, perhaps is one of the most undeserved novel of it's low ranking. It's a brilliant masterpiece of a tabletop-rpg-esports novel. Being Qidian's top novel of 2013, few could probably question it's qualities.

The main character Ye Xiu / Ye Qiu is perhaps the naturally funniest MC I have read, the interactions between the characters are pure perfection. The jokes comes as naturally as in real life, the plot advances at a slightly slow pace and does not dwelve into the characters background at all, so not too much drama guys.

There... more>> is a lack of romance in this novel, which is probably the only minus this novel has, the relationship of the characters are most;y vague until the very end.

To those who are starting to read TKA, 1 word of advice, is to be patient, it's a slow paced novel and it may seem boring at start, but trust me, it's all but worth it.
Rated 9.6. Brilliant. <<less

Imagine a slingshot. In the center of the rubber band put yourself (the reader). Now let it go. At first the speed is terrific. It feels like you might travel to the end of the universe. But after a few seconds the speed drops by a lot until you just roll on the ground thinking only about how to stop faster. In the end, you look back and see you traveled quite a long distance..... for something shot out of a slingshot.

This is my experience when it comes... more>> to this novel, and my guess is that I'm not the only one feeling this way. Reading this novel with the same anticipation as the first, let's say, 50 chapters, requires from the reader two things. First, for him to be an avid gamer, and second, to actually want to implement that kind of lifestyle that the MC has upon himself. Otherwise, everything starts to sound either boring, or repetitive. Still, this novel is a masterpiece. The effort the author put in this novel is huge and I can understand it's popularity. Because of this I give it 4 stars, and encourage anyone to start reading it. <<less

The story starts very strong and feels not like the fantasy or VR storys.

It is totally realistic and the MC feels cool.

The downside for me is the extreme esport focus that leads to a lack in indepth story development. While that is kind of typical especially for Chinese web novels it sometimes feels like you would better be off by just watching some ESL stream.

Just like almost every volume driven novel there really is not much real content or story at some point anymore. You could sum up several chapters... more>> in one or two sentences.

My review is not meant to be a rant, just stating the obvious. There will be a lot guys simple enjoy reading. The writing style is good and if you are fan of the same “endless style” it's just much better than for example Zhan Long and TKA is the way to go. <<less

pretty good story. Much better than most gaming novels where the MC's tend to rely on luck. MC's a strong from the start and shakes up a whole server with his character. Feels more realist since it's not a VRMMO

Amazing story which is extremely realistic.

Truly the best gaming novel I have read in a long time. Slightly edging out even LMS. Most VRMMO novels are rather 'overdone', which is great for a fun read but this story is indeed a fresh take on the genre. Kinda like an e-sports fantasy.

The story is very well-written. Big or small plots are well-thought and planned. It's quite slow pace as author explains every action every single fight. There are few funny cliche here and there. MC is op but he knows his limit. He runs away or schemes to overcome crisis. No pure luck or BS cheat as other norm novels.

Edition and Translation are superb. 5/5.

Con: It got bored from time to time as the main plot is all about gaming. MC is pretty much at Internet Cafe all day and night.... more>> (Life sucks?) Also, many actions in game which are explained in detail (too long). MC avatar runs around game map, doing quests, fighting, etc. I admit that I skipped few paragraphs during the fights. I had to read it alternately with other novels.

Overall - Very good read. Big applause to the author. <<less

Had to rate just 5 stars, because I'm not allowed to rate 10!!

It's light (perfect with morning coffee), humorous, no drama or angst, only few precious bittersweet moments and memories.

I'm not a gamer, but that doesn't mean I don't know how to play, so this novel is perfect for people like me. I didn't get annoyed with grinding stuff or not very accurate settings like some diehard gamers who commented AND rated bad. After all - all games has their own specific things and Glory has it too, just know... more>> this - Glory got green light in making, so maybe in few years we will also get a chance to play a battle mage or launcher role!

Anyway, MC is great, shamelessly great, I hope more people will read this gem, and rate as high as it deserves! <<less

The book is about an OP gamer's journey back to the top. He was kicked out from his old gaming company and made his own. Not draggy. No romance tho.

Long story short, this novel is unbelievable. I won't get into too much details but if you like gaming, then this novel is just perfect.

No pointless fanservice, well-developed plot, and a fascination with Ye Xiu that just leaves you hanging for more. The side characters aren't one dimensional; all aspects of the story are given ample focus and attention.

As most novels that go beyond the 1000 ch mark, it does get repetitive but its bearable. (Personally, it was around chapter 800+ that I lost interest for a while)

All in... more>> all, give it a shot and this novel can be amazing! <<less

First watched the anime before reading this, so I had positive expectations of the novel. After reading it, I realized it contains a lot of gaming jargon and info, which dragged on the storyline a bit. I started to lose interest as more and more info was being dumped into the chapters, but I still hold out hope that maybe later chapters will be better. ≫_<

Reivew as of 460. I'm one of those people where ever since I heard the anime had aired, I was interested in seeing what this novel was about. (Haven't watched the anime since I wanted to read the full story more than the current 6+ aired episodes). And after binge-reading these chapters non-stop I am absolutely addicted to this novel. A few points though.

~ No spoilers!

... more>> I'm pretty sure that most of these were covered by the other user review here, but here are some of my thoughts:

> Very elaborate designed game and explanation of class's skills and mechanics. I have played a few mmo games myself, but having come to read about the 24 different classes and the way certain characters use them are another thing on its own.

> Very interesting characters, indeed. Each has their own personality, and has at least 1 trait in which sets them apart from everyone else. And unlike other works such as the webtoon Noblesse in which instantly discards a character after a one-time intro and use, some of these characters just keep coming back!

(^ More importantly, Huang Shaotian FTW!? Am I right??)

> Lastly, stemming from the characters themselves which bring us such many hilarious events and battles that occur. Oh so many times. Ye Qiu does deserve to be called a top tier God player in the game as some of the tatics and gaming strategy he employs are simply pure genius! I don't know how many times I laughed my ass off whenever I see his interactions with his enemies and allies.

If you're the sort of person where, take any superhero story for instance, wants the hero to reveal their true identity to at least one person in the story - you won't be getting any, anytime soon.

What I'm trying to point out here is that, the entire beginning portion of the novel (~300 chapters) mainly focuses on Ye Qiu's journey of his second coming, which in other words is him grinding his ass off as a new and unique character in the game. So things start to pick up around 300 chapters later for things to get really exciting and kicking-off in terms of plot, in which some readers may not find that entirely exciting. And often in-between where 2 major climatic events of the story are introduced, the story would become really grindy as it continues to show in detail the "adventures of Ye Qiu grinding while tormenting more people!"

(Though currently it stands I'm still only 400 chapters in at this point, so this view will most definitely may change).

Would I recommend this? If you want a good laugh, but don't mind the story being too grindy a little bit at times, then most definitely for sure! One can always skim over the parts of the story in which drag out during the grind moments after all. Otherwise with how detailed the author makes the game to be from its classes, characters battles etc.. While being able to incorporate some simply hilarious inducing moments - as of yet Butterfly Blue doesn't fail to disappoint! <<less

One of my favourites, with plenty of humour and excitement, and even some "feels." This isn't a drama, so don't expect every scene to advance the plot. It's also not a thriller, or a romance. The genre is slice of life, action and comedy, all three of which are delivered well.

If there is a flaw, it is the descriptions of the action in-game as if it was real-life or in a VRMMORPG. In reality, Glory is a 1st-person shooter-style action MMORPG - many of the scenes are patently impossible in... more>> a real game. They also don't suffer from lag - I have yet to play an MMORPG that doesn't have lag.

The MC is mature and serious, "my-pace" in real life, OP in the game. As for side characters - some are enduring, some have their day in the sun and only get some cameos once in a while after that, some temporarily fade away but leave us with hope that they will be back.

There are complaints that the MC smokes, doesn't exercise and has an unhealthy lifestyle. I'm speechless. Is that even relevant or important? Do you complain that James Bond always gets the girl at the end of every movie? These are just stuff that flesh out the MC as a person. There are also people complaining that the MC is a NEET. These are probably people who describe online stock traders and entrepreneurs setting up a new business as jobless. Then there are those wondering why the MC doesn't use his in-game skills to earn money. That's obviously because the MC has more important things to do than spend all his time and energy farming for cheap drops off small-fry mobs to sell for a pittance. Rare drops that sell well are only dropped by bosses, and these are largely monopolized by big guilds.

Some reviewers complain that TKA is grindy. IMO, if you consider Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece to be grindy, then yes, TKA is grindy. The MC grinding in-game is a mechanism meant to show a few things: early-on, it illustrates the MC's OP skill and shows the MC's personality; then it shows the growth of various side-characters; it is also used to introduce some of the other characters - antagonists, rivals, allies, etc.; it shows the MC advancing his goals. There is no grinding for the sake of grinding. <<less
