T/N: In Chinese, the 穿 in time travel is the same character as the 穿 in wear clothes.

“Why must I travel back in time (穿越 chuan yue)?” – Qing Qiao

“Because… If you don’t wear clothes (穿 chuan)… You’ll catch a cold…” – Qing Qiao’s servant girl, Dong Xi.

If you once thought this was a time traveling novel…

What is a Benz? Beautiful men step aside. As a knowledgable woman who has gone through higher education, how can I tolerate a backward life without a computer, without chocolate, without a flushing toilet bowl? No matter what I must return back to the future! Thus started, Gu Qing Qiao’s silly ridiculous legend, a side-splittingly funny case that started with one bowl of roast pork rice.

But sadly, we may have guessed the start, but we weren’t able to guess the end…

The four stars are for the first 33 chapters.

Here are a few reasons why I like this story as of chapter 33.

--- How the story flawlessly shifts from seriousness or romance or sadness to humor and back.

... more>> --- Qing Qiao (MC) and Duan Yu's interactions. They have these wonderful moments where they're so honest with each other and moments when they're just acting out their roles and moments where they think they're having one conversation, but its two different conversations.

--- Qing Qiao's thoughts as a girl who's transmigrated. She's not a girl who has lofty, modern ideals of everyone being equal. She's a girl who misses chocolate and the convenience of flushing toilets and tampons. And her complaints to the author when reality doesn't match the expectations she has after reading transmigration books is hilarious.
Spoiler

In most transmigration novels, there's never any negative consequence to the MC because of her future knowledge, so the plot twist in chapter 28 that happened because Qing Qiao is a person from the modern world was super satisfying and novel.

[collapse]

--- How the supporting male characters would be a male lead in another story. They have their own lives and goals outside of their relationship with the MC. They have hidden agendas that are gradually revealed and don't instantly fall in love with MC

--- The side characters' POVs. Although it must be so pitiful to be Duan Yu's guards after Duan Yu met QingQiao. I imagine them having nightly commiseration session and thoughts of finding a new employer.

In short, read this story if you've already read a lot of transmigration novels and want to read about a main character who misses the modern world and never gives up on going back to her original life and has many hilariously silly and ridiculous thoughts.
Spoiler

Since the author constantly subverts the common tropes in transmigration novels through the story, I think its very reasonable and not completely unexpected when Qing Qiao doesn't end up with Lu Zi Zheng. It's very telling that throughout the story, he keeps asking her, do you trust me? And she always says no or not completely.

[collapse]

[Edited to add on 4/28/18]

--- Qing Qiao's conversations with Zi Zheng. There are these funny moments when Zi Zheng is totally misunderstanding Qing Qiao's words (they're only harmless misunderstandings) and these sweet dream-like moments. They seem so perfect for each other. Or, to to put it another way, no one is more suitable for Zi Zheng, then Qing Qiao. He's suppose to be this mysterious character, but Qing Qiao brings him to her level and makes him human.

In other novels, I have to suspend my sense of disbelief and just blindly accept that MC has some quality that makes the ML fall for her because the author said so. But in this novel, the author does an amazing job in showing us that Qing Qiao is the only person that brings Zi Zheng happiness. As for whether or not Qing Qiao is in love with Zi Zheng... It's not clear as of chapter 33. She's definitely attracted to him and cares about his well being.

Why I'm dropping The Crazy Adventures of Wu Gate after chapter 33

Spoiler

I read the spoilers before I started translating the novel, so I knew that Qing Qiao would end up with Yuan Shi Qiong instead of Lu Zi Zheng. In theory, I liked the idea of Lu Zi Zheng not ending up with Qing Qiao because he chose his life mission over her, but actually reading it was just tragic and not enjoyable.

When I tried reading the parts about Yuan Shi Qiong in book 2, I wasn't interested in his character or his interactions with Qing Qiao at all. And, there were just so many new characters in book 2 that I didn't feel any emotional attachment to any of them, especially after the sad and emotional buildup in book 1's ending.

It was so frustrating that Qing Qiao didn't learn her lesson at all from book 1, especially because Qing Qiao herself is criticizing bad choices in other transmigration novels. I want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her. Qing Qiao, you almost died. And, you dragged your poor foster father into this mess. Can you please think for a little longer than a moment before you continue your insane quest?

I'm liking the main character and the funny plot. The translator is doing a great job at translating, he/she even links to references. I will rate it 5 for now, so other can also try it out, instead of abandoning it just because it hasn't started stacking up with chapters yet.

Will rate again when more chapters are up. Keep up the good work.

This is a f*cking experience. I went into it being like "wow look at all these good reviews, I'm interested. Oo too bad it hasn't been updated in over a year. Oh it's ok, if I like it I'll just MTL it."

WELL lemme tell you kids: to be honest, I'm fine that it's been dropped and when you read the chapters, YOU WILL BE TOO. If you're bored, you have nothing to lose - just read it and drop it.

  • She dumb. But endearing? Well at least in the beginning and kind of until well the end of the first book but after reading the spoiler from the translator that she doesn't stop being f*cking dumb despite her dumbness allowing her suffering to happen it's like wtf girl grow up. It's like I really relate in some part bc she just wants to go home but f*ck ahhh aggravating. Like she stopped being funny after the first 10 chapters.
  • THE MEN ARE SHIT. THEY. ARE. SHIT. THEY DO NOT TREAT HER WELL AT ALL. IM SORRY WHO SAID THEY WERE GOOD?? (Ok granted they have their reasons and she's dumb so she's not good at communication and explain herself) but literally all of them have motives and intentions using her and she may be dumb but she's still just f*cking innocent ok. Like she just wants to go home which is relatable but she's still dumb obviously.
  • EVEN THE MONK IS SHADY IMO he obviously seems to want her to find the shit. Idk sounds like he's using her to find it and not get in trouble himself...
  • Apparently she ends up with the crown prince and I'm like yeah that's f*cking dumb. He liked her vaguely out of nowhere. I personally see no chemistry between them. He's barely not an as*hole but he's up there
  • OH AND MY BIGGEST GRIPE: like ok I get it, some authors really like referencing various TV shows, poems, popular culture, iconic characters from like REALITY into fictional stories, esp transmigration stories like these BUT THERES A LIMIT. like SHE has the issue. I know she's coping by doing this but it drives me insane. It's because she constantly treats them like tv/book characters that she separates herself from reality and doesn't take her situation seriously.... It's frustrating only you want to shake her out of it so she can stop being dumb and so you can f*cking root for her again Jesus -- honestly freaking props to the translators for constantly explaining to us what the f*ck she's always referencing so we can understand

There is literally only one good man in this novel as I've read so far. Can you guess who? CAN YOU?

Yes, it's
Spoiler

her adopted father Gu. Yea hes the only good one. But that's so disappointing because the MLeads are shit. I repeat myself because they suck. I mean they are honestly fine as people because they truly only sh*t because they need to fulfill their goals but they should really stop using her/treating her like sh*t if they continue to get involved with her...

[collapse]

You should just read it to support the translators. They did a great job for trying to make sense of this joke.

Spoiler

you gotta admit the writing is good because you just want to root for her and it is really heartbreaking when she gets imprisoned and charged with the crime. But then she says dumb sh*t about food all the time instead of thinking of how to get her ass out of her sh*t situations. Smh.

I was so head over heels in love with this book. Ive fallen fot the second ML but after knowing that he didn't win the MC after all the sacrifices and struggles he faces for her. I was so disappointed, he is clearly the real ML but for reason the ending ends with pure greed. Choosing selfishness over love. Huhuhu??I cant get over the fact that the one who wins the MC just appeared for a few chapters and getting the highlight in the end. LZ I will always be on your side.

It's an amazingly refreshing story amongst transmigration novel. Albeit it's somewhat... silly, it's silliness is a way of MC to cope with the situation. Can't help but feel with her. Her interaction with male lead (s?) is... lively, both with ulterior motives trying to get what they want. Ahh, the joy~ It's a pity it only has 87 chapters~ Only 70 more to go~

It's really good, it's the type of novel that leave you bursting with laughter, and hiding sinister plot line underneath. MC is transmigrating into the past, and make us laugh with her antics, until the plot start to unravel.

A lot of jab at other common transmigration plot, like how illogical for a woman confined in bourduir to invent things like bomb, unique dish, weird (but supposedly common now) fact and tidbits.

Recommended for all ages and preferably if you already read too many female protagonist transmigrated novel. Like you will enjoy... more>> playing Persona Q after playing Persona 3 & 4! <<less

I regret not reading the spoilers first before starting this novel. I wish I didn't read this at all. No wonder it has been dropped (whatever the reason may be, it was still dropped) and has never been picked up by anyone from years ago until now. It truly wasn't worth it. Just go read the spoilers first and then decide whether you want to be a masochist and start to MTL. The FL will not be having any character development. She never learns her lesson and will be used... more>> and continue acting foolish almost until the very end.

Spoiler

Don't get into this expecting any epic/sweet romance. It's about FL's brainless and foolish effort in her journey to find ways to get back to the modern world whilst being used left and right by the male leads. Male leads are scums (justifiable because they are indeed ancient men who lives in a dog eat dog world after all) and FL is really dumb ngl. Her food antics are not funny nor is it endearing. It's annoying.
