Been reading this since Volare, and I have to say that I quite enjoy the novel. The characters have good depth to them, and the earlier characters and places make sure to be kept in the timeline and not magically vanish. Good to know that the story isn't so MC driven but also flows behind the scenes too.

I do have some qualms about the fact that they make MC such a all powerful teacher in his past life yet not able to do much op stuff, but it certainly makes... more>> the story a better read (less plot armor would be nice though). <<less

I've been reading this novel for a while, actually I kinda bored recently and not hoping much from the story, but I keep reading it anyways. So when I choose to read something it is because first the title is interesting, and second because of the summary, the third is after taste test (you know like take a bite for reference before deciding to eat the whole thing), and fourth is the translator and the author. The title remind me of Emperor Domination, it has like conquering vibe, and actually... more>> it is, considering how the MC is really knowledgeable regarding almost everything just like how ED's MC is, but not quite. I'm not particularly hate this kind of MC, but why is the side character given too much spotlight in its chapter, like how his "bodyguards" that came from the same place as MC having much appearance in the beginning and then just mentioned it here and there for convenience sake in the the latest chapters. I've been given false hope, I thought at the beginning that they all will grow stronger together and given a much important role as MC's sidekick perhaps, but it turns out that they can't keep up with the MC's wonder, and now they just mentioned in a few paragraphs at most. And this is the first time I read the work of this author and the translator. After all and all, I like this novel, and with how long this chapter is gonna be, I hope things will get better in the future. <<less

Been following this novel since the beginning and can for a fact say that it is really worth a read. It has an interesting plot (not gonna lie, with a lot of armor) it can work with, characters with actual story (I can actually remember a few names from back in chapters 200ish, unlike RPS, that thing is just RIP.). But they tend to get dropped a lot and disappear for a good few hundred chapters, except for JCs core members. The pace is quite slow though and the author... more>> usually tends to repeat a lot of unnecessary things so it can get quite tedious reading the same thing 1 chapter apart.

Another thing I noticed that whenever JC (the MC) becomes overpowered in the current region, the author always reveals the facedown trap card "New Region" in which he has to climb to the top right from ground 0. It's fine for the first 2 times but I think it has been 4 times now? Still counting!

There's little to no romance in the early chapters and stays that way for quite a while, just because either JC is being really dumb or he's too busy cultivating (maniac). It gets better later on though, when he finally finds his brain!

Overall this novel is worth a read, try out the first 100 chapters and see for yourself as JC slowly but surely builds his old men harem catching different new kinds of exotic Pokemon all over the cultivation world! <<less

My impression from the first 50 or so chapters is overall positive. The story has an exciting premise and great world building. There are some issue I have from the novel, the author tends to over-repeat information which can get slightly annoying at times but at the moment its still enjoyable to read. I recommend reading the first few chapters to see if your interested.

I've been following this novel for quite a while (almost two years) and a lot of the novel can be skipped as most of the information is repeated over and over again before the story progresses a bit and the cycle continues. Its good to pass the time but if you want a fast paced novel then this will be disappointing.

I'm going to start of this review by saying that I love this novel.

I'm a simple man, when I get attached to a character, I love to see him reck everything and being super OP completely tr*shing everyone around him. Of course the MC isn't without any hurdle and he does meet many hardships.
I would give this novel 5 stars if it wasn't for a couple very annoying things about the novel.

1: It's slow. Like many Chinese light novels (maybe light novels in general), this novel tends to drag things out for as long as is possible and always make sure to repeat points. If you imagine an event in the novel that happened recenlty, you might guess that it happened 10 chapters ago, but in reality it was 20 or 30 chapters ago. That is because there is so much useless information... well it's hard to call it information...

[Spoiler warning] The information below might be classified as spoilers, if you are sensetive to spoilers, I'd recommend not to read further, I only mention the pattern of the novel, so if you're not kinky, then please do go ahead.

2 The second thing is the obvious repetitive pattern of the novel. First, the MC starts with of with a lower cultivation than everyone else, he quickly catches up, and tr*shes everyone. Then he leaves for a new area where he does the same thing, then he leaves for a new area and so on and so forth

This was one of the first novels I started on when I got into the genre.

I love the epic journey it took me on and its an example of why I like ongoing novels so much.

You are with the character from birth until his success.

... more>> The story of Jiang Chen s**ked me in, I devoured the chapters until I had to wait for the releases.

I have to admit that it lost the appeal of the first chapters when it was something new, but i've grown accustomed to Jiang Chen and its still fun watching him go his way.

All in all I can recommend this novel. <<less

It's a good novel with a few kinks in the main story line, with the protagonist always comparing his surroundings to that of his father's and his previous life. Except that it's a pretty good read.

Where to begin... Every novel has its ups and downs, and SoTR isn't an exception. Without giving anything away:

The peaks (ups) :

    • The story moves at a good pace and the arcs feel complete.
    • The MC doesn't have the arrogant demeanour that we see far too often in other novels, but he's not one to let others walk all over him either.
    • The MC actually faces disastrous situations. It's hard to expand on this without spoilers, but don't expect an MC with superb "plot armour" where everything goes from bad to no problems within a few chapters.
    • Fairly consistent chapter releases. The translator (etvolare) seems to pop some out daily, and if not, is good at making up for missed chapters. This is a very important point to me; even the best novel can be bad due to infrequent or few updates as it makes it hard to remember what happened in the previous chapter.
The valleys (downs) :

    • At the beginning, the author did a good job with secondary character developments, but as the novel progressed, many of them fell into the background, almost to the point of forgetting they existed.
    • Too many yet-to-be accomplished big goals... Seeing as how we're less than halfway through (around chapter 1000), there's definitely room for the author to have addressed them, but I still can't help feeling a little unsatisfied as the number of big goals keep piling up.
All in all, I would recommend this novel to anyone looking to pick up another novel.

Sotr is very well written, the different arcs give depth to the story and the reader feel the growth of the characters, only thing I can criticise is the Hero has a clear personality, but the heroines do not, they often come out as bland character with little to offer to the story other than their part on the plot, once that is over, you get your run of the mill character that might as well not be there, overall I give 4 stars to SoTR, only leading ladies fail... more>> to complete the full marks <<less

I started reading this novel after reading several others like I Shall Seal The Heaven Against the God, and many more.

SoTR is about a boy who's previously an all knowing character in the past but cannot cultivate, suddenly reincarnated in a body that can cultivate.

It's fun to read how he pick suitable martial arts and cultivation methods from his previous live's memory. I think this is a good novel to read.

I have been reading this novel for quite some time already, sometimes after work and sometimes before I start my work. It is really cool. What I really like about Jiang Chen is his attitude. I have read a whole lot of other light novels that has characters who just massacres left and right and I really don't enjoy that.

I also like the progression of the story, how he helps people and they in turn serve him.

Thank you so much for translating this for us and may we all enjoy... more>> and have fun reading his adventures <<less

Albiet I don't really read cnovels with male leads but since it seemed really popular on volare (one of my favorite sites to read cnovel translations because my Chinese skills are... nonexistent). It's actually quite similar to the plots of the novels I usually read. Sure some people may dislike taht the MC is an allknowing and super strong but that's what makes it so interesting to read. That we know in the end, the good guys will win! Cuz the real world is too harsh sometimes

Amazing plot, easy to read, combines everything that an adventure should have. Didn't had high hopes when started reading it but it did consume me after. A must read Novel in my opinion! Many thanks to the translator as well, who does a great job and provides new translated chapters almost everyday.

The usual protagonist with almost no flaws. However there are nice plot twists that keep the series interesting. The villains are all varied too, each one is thoughtfully written with a believable purpose/intent.

Definitely one of the best stories I've read. I read like and not a little and at the same time I am surprised at all how good the quality of a web-story can sometimes be. The human genius is always amazing.
The author of this novel is just from such. And the Internet and technology development allow me to admire the fruit of the author's work, even without knowing either the Chinese language or the full English.
The book is really chic. A rare case when they write about rebirth and nothing is confused with the important.

This is one of my favorite novels. The MC is always three steps ahead of everyone and unlike most other novels he helps the people around him get stronger too, and they also stick around for the most albeit more in the background. Also, huge thumbs up from me no harem. Overall this is a great novel and it deserves a read.

This Novel is a solid 4-4.5 star novel. Breaking it down to pieces, the novel would look something like:

Translation: 5

The work of the translator is very solid. I'm not saying it's the best ever, but it is however high quality work, on a mostly regular basis. There are a few minor grammar mistakes, but there are already 1000+ chapters translated, so it would be bizarre if there weren't a couple slip ups.

... more>> Story: 4

The actual novel itself is also pretty good. It has it's fair share of cliches, but still manages to keep things interesting.

Characters: 3.5

The characters are all relatively okay, but the antagonists are horrible. Or at least, their presentation is. The first encounter with every enemy in this novel consists of them doing something that is either very suspicious or very arrogant. Like, none of them use their heads. They just charge in trying to brute force overpower everyone, or act very sketchily until they get caught in the act, seemingly unaware of how they could have ever been figured out.

Pacing: 3

Probably the worst part of the novel is the pacing. The MC is literally growing too fast for any of his stuff to keep up with him, minus a few select items. Previously, finding the Goldbiter Kingrats was amazing, and were a trump card for him. Now, they are regulated entirely to manual labor, mass collecting all the goodies when MC stumbles across his 1000th legendary treasure vault on his way to the restroom. His senses improving techniques gave him an edge against any opponent near his level. But now they don't really matter, cause he can easily squash opponents an entire realm above him. <<less

Main character has overpowered advantages from a past life, and uses this to triumph over enemies - this is a popular trope seen commonly in popular novels. I'd say that the way the author has used this plot device is pretty commendable, seeing as the advantages are mild in comparison to other novels. In this aspect, if you are a reader who is averse to the insanely OP type of protagonist, then this novel should appeal to you as our protagonist doesn't really outwardly display his advantages from his past... more>> life. Instead, it comes in the form of his tempered mindset and knowledge of techniques.

However, do be warned that the novel (relative to the later parts) starts off pretty typically for the first.. 800 or so chapters. The plot progresses as you would expect it to, with the usual school, competition arcs. If you're thinking of picking this up, or are already in the midst of reading it, then just hang in there because this one is a read that really starts to come into its own only around 800 chapters.

In fact, I wanted to drop this novel because of its sheer repetitiveness in terms of predictable arcs and draggy filler chapters. This was until I saw a comment from a raw reader who advised other readers to hang in there as the "good parts" would come in later, and the story would get much better.

As of Chapter 1004, I think the story is going pretty well - actually, much better than it has been thus far. <<less

Very solid for the most part, great world building. The story seems to have fresh ideas for the most part and not like they are keeping the plot going for convenience. My only issue is that the MC is overly reliant on items to be strong instead of himself.
