Reading this as it is released on Wuixaworld. This far in it follows many reincarnation based stories. It doesn't fall into the trap of building an impossible harem or linger too much into romance. Instead, the focus is on the MC's relationship with a world where he would previous would be as an adviser to heroes. Learning through his own experience on how to navigate through the world, getting his hands dirty and along the way taking step closer to learn the fate of his previous life while saving the... more>> world he currently lives in.

Not the best novel out there, but definitely worth a read. Updates are fairly consistent with the translation. Only cons to the story is after 400 chapters it becomes too predictable at times. Too formulaic. However, it doesn't lose track of its continuity and stays consistent. <<less

I gotta say that I like this novel. I love the fact that it brings the Celestial Emperor back into the story as the one that make Jiang Chen reincarnate. It takes something from the beginning and brings it back a few hundred chapters like it was planned from the beginning.

I think SotR is a nice Novel with some interesting points, but the more I read the easier it gets to predict what's going to happen.

It does seem to get repetitive in some features, but it makes it more interesting to read when a new plot twist appears or the MC suddenly gets stuck at some point, that seemed to not be a problem before.

Without talking about the story or the plot in any detail, the story itself can be very repetetive at times - the plot itself has no major flaws however minor inconsistences to occur from time to time (although I notice them very very rarely.) However by no means is this novel a "Great" or one of the best out there, far from it however it does have reasons as to why a reader should give it a chance.

1: The MC is enjoyable to watch, despite the repetetive content (Defeating enemies... more>> then making stronger enemies) noone can deny that this isn't just a cliche of most novels currently - an example would be Lin Ming in Martial World and being the opponent of a Great World King earlier in the novel, these themes are seen throughout numerous novels. The way in which the MC deals with his enemies however isn't comical but strategic and thought out, the MC is calculative and doesn't allow chances to slide by him and give his 'enemy' a chance at life - instead choosing to erradicate the problem early on, something which we don't see much of in a lot of novels due to the MC being too merciful then the villian coming back later as a cliche much stronger, yes I'm looking at you War Soverign Soaring the Heavens!

2: Although I have to admit I did stop reading around chapter 600 or so due to finding more enjoyable novels to read at the time (In no way because this novel isn't fun to read) but because it was time consuming, it would take me a couple weeks to catch up with current translations however that doesn't mean that you shouldn't begin reading the novel, currently with 1k chapters out unless you read50 chapters a day you won't be finished for atleast a couple of weeks depending on your own reading speed, (Personal thanks to the amazing translators right now, you guys are the best! ;)) 3: Okay you really can't go on just my opinion for this novel, because everyone has their own personal preferences and to some people this will be the best novel they've ever read/one of the best! However that's only if you take the time and patience to stay with the plot and not get lost trying to figure out what's going on much like myself - the story might not be the best and progression might seem to go awefully slow and first in terms of character building and world building, however the novel does improve over time on a whole.

Thank's for reading, personally this novel is only worth a 3 stars however should it awe me later into the story that rating will surely change. ;) I hope you enjoy reading this and I hope you get some more useful information from other reviews regarding the general plot unlike my own! <<less

Fine take on a wuxia setup sadly with all the classical overestimating self and underestimating the MC, not too mention the extreme arrogance. Classical start with a body that's weak and have to train with some sort of advantage from reincarnation. The fights are nice with all the classical wuxia and I like the reasoning behind each "offence" the MC makes because he doesn't randomly believe himself to be best or be able to offend every one just for plot armor to save him but has good reasons (most of... more>> the time) for why he does what he does. Some times it feels like it's just done out of spite but at the same time it's a different age where strength rules which forces one to behave differently from our modern society. There are still some plot armor where it seems he survives just because who he is but most of the times there's a good reason for his survival with him outsmarting the opponent.

It would be nice to see less arrogance in the opponents but then I also think it would be harder to get fights or challenges and then its just a easy ride to power which well would be kinda boring cause we don't want to read about cultivating in peace for 10, 000 years and then being OP we want fights and actions. Though we do usually complain when we get it cause we think "its not good enough" or "plot armor" or some other reason. Basically we humans can never be satisfied but you do a good job of keeping as many as possible as satisfied as possible and for that I commend you.

In general it's a good read if you like the classical reincarnation wuxia novels with a nice mix of fights some backstory, some romance and cultivation. Though with it's length you might forget some parts in the beginning when you start to reach the end not too mention when you are waiting for more chapters and it's a bit too long to reread to often. <<less

It's great! The last 1000 chapters have been an adventure. It's one of my favourites.

The main character is likeable with depth to him. Often the novel defies expectations as it does not follow common tropes when dealing with petty antagonists as they are either more sensible and capable of learning/growing from their experiences or they are dealt with swiftly.

Female characters are not there just to fill "the harem numbers" and in fact the author, for the most part, seems to steer away from it (though it's still there - just... more>> done more reservedly and tastefully) and given purpose or actual defining roles or personalities.

The most negative thing I have to say about it is maybe the last 50-100 chapters. It seems like the author got lazy and the way the story flows... it feels like it's more forgettable. Just the whole last arc or two feels uninspired. <<less

I really enjoy stories where the MC has superior knowledge and is able to overcome many obstacles while making others look like a fool. Also I really enjoy when the MC has another aspect such as the alchemy aspect here.

I normally don't write reviews, so let me just say, HAPPY 1000 CHAPTERS!! Quite an amazing achievement.

And in all honestly, this wuxia novel deserves it. This story may be a little repetitive, but the lovely characters, plot and twists and turns along the way are fairly well done. However, this isn't a novel to be taken seriously. It's one of those, light hearted stories where there's contradictions if you peer to intensely into it.

I'll still recommend it as a good read.

SOTR is one of the best novels I've ever read, and I've read A LOT of novels... The main character is kind of badass-addicting if you know what I mean? He's not the hot-blooded type, he's calculating and calm, he schemes when an idiot tries to sheme against him, he crushes the idiot who tries to crush him, and outsmarts those who try to outsmart him. He's very multi-talented to the point its OP. And despite all his awesomeness, the author successfully made the side characters shine! They are interesting... more>> and they mature as the story goes on.

Needless to say, the plot is not lacking in anything either. Twists and turns that are both intriguing, sad, full of opportunities and addicting. I can't say much about the plot without spoilers, so let me just say, the MC might be lucky, but there are consequences he can't prevent and catastrophes he won't see coming. This will drive him to go further down the road to domination while trying to protect those he cares about. <<less

Like Harems? Like Old Men?
Boy do we have a story for you.

Reincarnation.
It's cliché we know, but it'll set up everything we need for an actually interesting story.
SoTR differs from the norms in many ways, such as the Harem of Wise Old Men, as mentioned in the first line, who could easily form a cult for our reincarnator, Jian Chen's ancient wisdom.

A more important deviation, is that the dialogue and strategy are constantly prioritised over fantastical fight sequences. Whilst regular xianxia novels might spend tens of chapters detailing a fierce battle (""all this takes a long time to describe but only a few moments had passed"").
To me, this helps give depth to the main characters, with more interesting personalities, that actually make sense! (Most of the time)

All in all, SoTR provides a much needed separation from some overly-intense and "unrealistic" novels (Aside from the magic martial arts). And as such, its something I look forward to every single day, and I know I'm not the only one, so come join us!
(Be a sheep. Follow the crowd.)

I really like the start. There were challenges, and when he succeeded, it felt rewarding to read, as you really felt like you had been with him through the hard times.

The farther I got in the story, the more disconnected I felt with the character. He started being more self centred, and relatives got mentioned less and less. He seemed to be more of a cultivation machine than human. I lost that connection.

In the start we hear about his past life, about the affection and respect that he has for... more>> his father, but the further I progressed, the less emotional he got. He gots colder and colder. He isn’t uncaring, or unkind, but he lacks emotion.

It might seem like I really dislike the story, but I don’t, I acutually enjoy it. I just really need that emotional connection again. I would really like if he started to seem more human, and less cold.

Spoiler

I hope it might change soon, as it seems big things are coming up.

The story is amazing but the development and relationship is not as good as IET novels such as Coiling Dragon and Stellar. I feel the development is slow and is predictable in some bits but the story behind is much better than other reincarnated novels I have read. The novel always seems to pull you back to it so I've never felt that I need to drop it or stop reading for a while. Overall this novel is one of the best of it's kind and I would recommend it.

One of my favourite novels that I just couldn't bring myself to drop. Have been following it for a long time and caught up to latest chapters. The lead is my favourite kind of character; smart and op but pretty much balanced as there are also risk of death he has to face and he manages to pull through most of the hurdles because of his past experiences. A must read novel.

Sotr is good, it has a good chapter release stability, it generally has a good story with some ups an downs here and there but all stories have that and it is generally quite good. The story is 1000+ chapter so not a days worth of reading. The MC has a good character depth and a likeable personality. I would love some sect building or management, but that's probably just me.

I found Wuxia several years ago after not wanting to wait for the manga of TDG to come out and wondering if there was an web novel out there that was further along. And there was! Wuxia world was a realm of wonder and cheesiness. It was great. From then on, I discovered CD, DE and SOTR and other such as BTTH, MGA, TGR, WDQK, but today, SOTR is the only one I'm still keeping up with.

For a Wuxia novel, SOTR has a great plot, and the protagonist is a... more>> character you actually like. Sure, he has plot armour and he's conveniently the reincarnated son of the precious celestial emperor, but he's a nice guy who values relationships and sees the bigger picture (beyond himself). If more of the Chinese population learned from him and learned to be the better man, not always expecting equal return in their relationships, the country would be a better place.

Etvo, the translator, also really cares about her readers and goes to a lot of effort to involve us in the processs. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it! <<less

I really love this series! How many stories start of with the MC being reincarnated after having been killed for farting at a ritual? Sounds silly but the story does get more serious I thought i'd be put off by the way he reincarnated but the silliness wore of after a while. It does progress in a predictable way but there are various plot points that keep it interesting.

Its one of my favorite novels and would recomend it to anyone who likes books that deal with someone who was at the top but falls down to the bottom of the food chain and then comes all the way back on the top. We are given vivid descriptions of Jiang Chens experiences and the difficulties he goes through.

MC with insane amount of knowledge from previous life as a ‘cripple’ who could not cultivate.

Upon death he transmigrated into the body of a silk pants.

Typical shenanigans that going from an idiot to a savant and being underestimated brings.

That said, I enjoyed what I read (~100 chapters). I only dropped it to build up chapters. Now that it’s at 1k I will pick it up from the start again.

I have been a long time fan of xianxia and wuxia stories, but I had to abandon reading a lot of stories with attracting scenarios because of the translation's quality or because of an overdescriptive author which fails to pace his story.

SOTR is one of the rare translations where I never had such a problem, the story is well paced, with fleshed out characters and an MC that despite having OPing memories, still goes through moments of doubts and self-building axperiences.

The quality of the translation is also a great boon,... more>> I never had to complain about any grammatical errors, and the style flows so naturally it feels effortless. <<less

My first review. Yay!

I've been reading SOTR for about 2 years and it was my third or fourth light novel. It made me a sucker for reincarnation novels in general. The story is awesome with enough world building to engage and leave you itching for the uncovering of more mysteries. The MC has rather dense plot armor but it's to be expected. That being said, the battles always proceed in a logical manner and you're never left feeling that the author cheated (except when the MC literally cheats, lol).

The one... more>> thing that keeps me coming back is the humor and face slapping (of which there is an inordinate amount). Jiang Chen's love for betting always puts me in a good mood. The supporting characters are not always relevant but they have a little more depth to them than is typical in this type of novel.

My only gripe is the way the most interesting stories can leave you out to dry for several chapters but that's typical for most Chinese LNs I've read.

I heartily recommend this novel to anyone looking for a solid read, good humor and tight, sensible action <<less
