I woke up in an unknown forest.

It seemed like this place was a fantasy world where strange-looking beasts ran rampant. And just like in a game, I seemed to be able to check my enemies’ and my ability.

Let’s hunt monsters and gather titles in order to level up and evolve into a Greater Dragon!

And I heard a mysterious voice in my head, “Let’s aim to be the strongest!”

It started out well enough, it went from an okay to good, but then just bad after certain plot developments at some key points in a few story arcs. MC starts at the bottom of the food chain and slowly works their way up. Some people have problems with the decisions the MC makes, some are warranted but others are just unfair. I feel the MC is trying to pick something good between tough choices from a set of bad options laid out for him. Honestly things feel too stacked... more>> against the MC every time that happens. There do seem to be some plot hole related issues as well, explanations and rants on those in the spoilers.

It is a bit of a cliche but he was a human now a monster that can't remember their past human life all that well. I think a good example of what our MC is like the blundering of Ainz from Overlord doing things out of his league. He is of course less capable in comparison since he wasn't at the top of the pyramid in either his previous or current life. Also lacking the capable subordinates to fix everything, misunderstand, glorify, and cover for the shortcomings.

Unfortunately I start having some big issues with the decisions of the MC and plot development after a certain point in spoilers below. A non spoiler summary being he made a really questionable decision without any real thought or consultation that have huge impact on everything else, it was even somewhat out of character, like his IQ dropped just to make this more reasonable for him to overlook. At least that is what I feel was going on with the decisions he makes at some points.

Spoiler

MAJOR SPOILERS. After he manages to save the village from the little earth dragon because of a conspiracy, but at a steep cost and having to finish off an almost dead human (at his request and to save everyone, who remarkably understood more about the MC's personality and character pretty fast at that) in front of the townsfolk to evolve from a kid plague dragon to an evil plague dragon, then kills little earth dragon, saves the town, and soon after leaving that big misunderstanding of him slaughtering the one guy trapped and dying from an earthquake crevice, gets into a huge fight with this weird op evil shape shifting, skill stealing slime that set everything up outside of the town that also seems to have some kind of relation to the (possibly a different?) god's voice.

He narrowly wins, kills the slime, passes out for a few days in a stream of water from a dive bombing of some kind and just decides to leave his trusty partner and essentially waifu poison salamander behind (she grew to love MC by the way, even the monkeys think of her as the boss's wife in their POV chapter). Even leaving his monkey troop behind without even thinking of trying to explain why he needs to leave or even go back to them despite the fact they are all intelligent and cunning monsters.

At least until a further evolution who knows when to control the poison he may or may not even be scattering as a plague dragon automatically yet, as it hasn't really affected anything or any one. Not even a feeble F rank bottom of the food chain mob a cute sand bunny with 4 HP. The salamander is resistant to poison and eats poisons as a food. For what reason would he not try AT ALL to get back to at least her? These are all the things and thoughts he had that happened after him drifting downstream. I don't know why he didn't think or seriously consider going back upstream and following the water to at least sort things out for all these different issues. According to some comments in the chapters even at "the latest ongoing chapters" we don't see the old group again. So that is several hundred chapters from the looks of it at least.

Between those two major points is where I feel the story starts getting much worse. Its like we just had some established characters with some backstory ripped away without a good enough reason to just have him start from all over and alone in a new area.

[collapse]

I do get that the gods voice he hears seems kind of skewed against him some kind mischievous, misleading, or evil way since he can't seem to get what he wants to be able to befriend humans etc. But you can only take that so far until it seems too stacked against the MC.

Spoiler

With the evolution system established as is he can't even pick any of the more good aligned dragon evolutions since it would basically bottleneck all future development, even early on in the story as a baby, and he ends up essentially being forced to go into the more evil paths with much more growth which seem to level up so much easier than the good aligned paths despite how desperately the MC tries to become a good dragon, on top of how the survival seems to frequently hinge on picking evil dragon paths. I had even skipped to the latest chapter (202 at the time) to try to see where things go.

MAJOR SPOILER he becomes an Ourobros around chapter 192 which had a description said something about seeing infinity and going against god or something. A two headed dragon with him being a male head and in control of the body, while the other head is apparently female, and a new entity different than him, doesn't share his thoughts, but is a part of him that he has no control over and it does what it wants, he cannot converse with it properly or feel its intents in any reasonable way. And for some reason his traveling companion that knows telepathy which is basically a universal communication, doesn't even mediate a simple conversation between them (yet?), despite the fact it has before for different characters earlier in the story. His recovery magic related skills split with it, and it doesn't even cooperate with the MC very well. So yea, they share his dragon body, sense of pain, stats, and resources like that. Doesn't that just sound like a terrible plot development on so many levels?

The MC even stated in much earlier chapters how much he would have hated the option of being a two headed dragon and here we are.

[collapse]

So yea the reasons in those two spoilers are what really ruin this otherwise promising story for me. It might still be considered reading if you are interested, but it is an interesting story with its own unique experience different from similar novels. One that unfortunately goes pretty downhill over time. <<less

I have read this novel to the current chapter, chapter 202, and while I will admit I did skip a few chapters that were a little boring for me, I will say for certain that the idea behind the story isn't bad. The story isn't like a normal isekai, and which, most people already picked up upon, the main character is a monster, or in any normal rpg, or story, a villain. However, I will admit that in much of the story, the main character is without a real motive.... more>> Like yeah, "aim to be the strongest", but with small exceptions, the main character usually just lives normally, and doesn't do anything to acquire that goal, true, he does fight against high level opponents, which is anyone's way to stronger, but that only occurs on rare occasion. While some people may like this type of story, I don't believe a story with the idea of "aiming to be the strongest", should have that kind of genre.

However, besides the main character, most of the story is actually quite well written, the concepts and power balance is quite well made. After all, even when our MC becomes completely OP, or so we think, he, actually isn't all that strong in comparison to the rest of the world, which is a sign that this is well written, unless that trope is used too many time to count. Furthermore, the idea of evolution and the concept of the MC wanting to have someone to talk to is not really original, but certainly really well adapted. If you are planning on reading this, please don't give up because of the shifting personality of the MC, since, the way he is written is used to change over the story, and change with every new encounter, or at least that's what I think. <<less

While the story itself is all right, most of the translators who picked it up have a less than fullfilling understanding of the English language. While the grammar is usually not blatantly incorrect, word choice and sentence structure often leave a lot to be desired.

Take note that around chapter 50/60 someone called mothbalde or whatever takes over, and they have a lot of broken links; I think like 7 chapters have been missing so far.

Therefore, I highly recommend that you go to Reincarnation translation's chapter 37 and read from there.... more>> about the story itself: the main character is in fact a huge idiot. But the story is enjoyable, even if his encounter

Decent time-filler for when you're waiting for other series. <<less

The thing is this is a generic grindfest with little to no character progresion. Everything is done with mythical beasts that run on for way too long. It's gets pretty generic once you read past chapter 10 and you can predict most if not all of the chapters that are going to hapen. Start reading if you like the battle filed novels. A side from that it has not one shred of what is on that picture.

The story is so so but still a ok read if you're bored. The theme of starting out as an egg is something I have not seen before. The character itself is most of the time too s*upid and spineless to use his acctual abilities, he is a dragon who is spreading disease from a kind of dust that falls from his wings but apperently it is not a passive but a active ability which is weird. Further more I was left cringing at all the times he could win if he just used his given abilities but he somehow survives by a random stroke of luck. These latest chapters as of now (around 90) are meh.

Spoiler

the slime is a cheat character who can do everything and somehow even is hard enough to break a dragons claw on impact which is dumb. There is no survival of the fitest in his mind even after all what he has been through, from egg fighting even without hatching to infant who has to fight to survive and evolve which he has a cheat for, he can't throw away his naivity and desire to cling to being human, which is the reason he chose the dark dragon path, it said some individuals can humanise their form.
also there is a fully evolved lower earth dragon he fights as a baby but he wins, like what the f*ck.

[collapse]

all in all, the character is being a pu*sy and somehow must be mentally ret*rded to not have his mindset change from monsters trying to kill him with all intent of eating him. the slime is a cheat character who can do everything and somehow even is hard enough to break a dragons claw on impact which is dumb.

I have read up to volume 13 and I better not even hope for the novel.

The protagonist is too clumsy and s*upid.

I think in volume 10 he confronts the saint but when he examines her he says that his lying ability is maximum level but this moron believed him. He helped kill his father (who he didn't know but he was an A rank monster)

AND HE WAS ALSO ALMOST mu*derED. I SAY HE IS SO DUMB THAT IF A VILLAIN TOLD HIM I'M GOING TO KILL YOU... HE WOULD... more>> NOT UNDERSTAND THAT HE COULD BE KILLED.

never learns.

In these volumes with his undead ability he partially revives an aldian. which with its evolutions makes it seem more and more human and possible waifu that the author created.

but I must say that the author's ability to create dialogue is truly disastrous. that even a child would generate better interactions, I was fond of him but it disappoints him to go so far and be so poor in words. The fights are boring and it's more speculation upon speculation.

I think the protagonist was a moron in his previous life as well as his current one. <<less

All the way up to chapter 742, and the MC is still an idiot. At this point the story sounds like it's getting to its climax, with the biggest baddie just around the corner. There's probably 3 big fights left before the credits roll, to give you guys an idea on how long this story is aiming to be. That being said, it's been on hiatus for months now (approaching 6 months), so don't expect it to finish anytime soon.

Really bad. Good start and intresting evolution. Like it doesn't change other only follow dragons. But main character is too obsessed with human. It literally too much even tough they betrayed him and try to attack him he think ok really a fool. Let's say if u were not dragon and human and somebody come to ur house to without permission and try to think to steal would leave that person and try to make fun of it. I couldn't like this character I don't want to madlad that kill... more>> everyone even if there is small fight but at least u have to some respect of ur self that u are now dragon at least think like that it ok u can't kill human because ur were once human then what about monster do you not think they r intelligent even through u were living with them why u kill them without guilt isn't because of survival of fittest, then why r u not showing kindness to human speciallly. <<less

The premise of the story is nice and all, but the character of the main character is not explored enough at least up to the point i've read. Often times I can'T understand why he would act a certain way.

For example I can understand why he would like to be human again/live with them. But I can't understand why he doesn't even have some sort of reaction, after saving someone and getting hurt for it or why we never see any deeper thoughts/emotions of his.

An other thing I miss, as... more>> this is an Isekai, are glimpses of who, what and how he was in his previous life to at least have some sort of basis why he acts the way he does. <<less

Story of a man reincarnated as an evil dragon, but cant come to terms with it.

He is clearly an evil dragon, but wants to become a saint, but the plot always forces him otherwise.

Spoiler

he becomes friendly with the village, then the village gets attacked, he needs to evolve to stop the attacker, so he kills an ops man who chose to sacrifice himself and evolves and kills the attacking dragon. Then the villagers accuse the MC of being evil dragon and chase him away.

How ridiculous. The MC just killed an enemy who could have easily annhilated the village, indicating that the MC is also capable of destroying the village. But these brain dead villagers had the gall to chase him away, if they really believed he was an evil dragon, then they should be begging not accusing him

[collapse]

MC keeps moving from one place to another, without completing the arc <<less

I read it without expecting much and was still disappointed. You literally have to turn your brain off to enjoy this. There is so much logical issues with how the MC thinks. It tried to add a comedic feel by making the MC an idiot, but it's not the funny kind of idiot. It's the literally s*upid kind of idiot that you'd feel aggravated thinking why the MC had that kind of thought process.

Really, a lot of the MCs issues could easily be resolved if the MC used it's racial... more>> abilities to it's fullest. But the MC doesn't to make an environment with a sense of danger. Basically, the encounters, the situation the MC gets into, and how the issue got resolved is forced.

Would definitely never recommend this. <<less

The potential for the story was so good but it was really disappointing to read the what the author did. The implications of having a dragon MC supposedly, is that the MC is overwhelmingly powerful and superior not to mention close to unbeatable. Dragons in most novels are the Apex of monsters and according to the story he is the son of the dragon king yet the MC was undeniably portrayed as a weak MC. Often running in fights, no growth in character, and no display of superiority. If you... more>> start thinking about the characteristics given to the MC there will be no distinct or unique thing for it to be eye catching to novel lovers its like a "Normal" and "Average" MC when compared to other novels that display their MC as a "Hero" or a "Demon King" with distinct signatures as an MC. <<less

This is... okay. It is not great by any means.

I like Kumoko but Kumoko isn’t amazing either. It is, however, pretty good. And Kumoko is cute and funny. If you compare it to this, this makes you feel like it’s a bad ripoff of it.

To start off, the MC is an idiot, plain and simple. And not in a very cute way either. I feel that the biggest problem with this is that the author couldn’t or failed to write it in a cute and funny way. The... more>> novel follows an evolution based mechanic. You level up to max level and you’ll evolve.

A little spoiler, the MC has 3ish unofficial goals. (Chapter 27)
1. To get stronger. (From mysterious voice.)
2. To get along with humans and be nice. (From MC himself.)
3. To change back into a human form. (From MC himself.)

MC is 100% shortsighted and it is annoying. As I said before, the author failed to write the story in a cute and funny way. The running away Kumoko was funny and nice to read. But the running away Dragon was just pure cowardice.

In the end, it’s still a decent casual read. It’s definitely not as bad as the other makes it. As long as you don’t compare it with Kumoko, it’s not that bad. But it won’t be something I want updates everyday and want to read asap, to put my interests of it into perspective. <<less
