Ji Qingzhou crossed into a book of dogblood scum and abuse. There were two choices in front of him.

A: Choose the genuine slag Gong in the original book, and start a sadistic and abusive romance with Fang Yaoxuan filled with domestic abuse, a dead mom, and leaving the entertainment circle.

B: Choose the cannon fodder Villain, Chu Cheng, and be free of the slag Gong forever.

Ji Qingzhou wordlessly chose B without a second thought.

Chu Cheng was of distinguished birth and became the head of a popular company at a comparatively young age. He had seen many beauties in the entertainment circle but just happened to be fond of Ji Qingzhou.

A friend asked him, “Do you like this little star?”

Chu Cheng shook his head. “No, just playing with him.”

Outside the door, Ji Qingzhou nodded. Yes, that was what the book said.

A few months later, Ji Qingzhou was walking away while answering the phone, when he overheard someone saying, “Ji Qingzhou? Oh, Chu Cheng is just playing with him. Once he’s played enough, they’ll split.”

Ji Qingzhou was just about to nod, but then he heard Chu Cheng’s furious reply: “Nonsense! Which bastard told you that! Doesn’t he know that those who disturb a marriage will be kicked by a horse!”

Ji Qingzhou: ??? Wait, no, this is not what the book said!

I don’t understand all the bad reviews. Dorm we read the same novel ?.. I’ve read worse novels that have gotten really good critics.
The MC isn’t s*upid. He knows his worth

Because of you tr*shy critics I almost didn’t read this cute lovely story. There was angst and a little dog blood here but the dog food was worth it. I don’t understand how you can say the translation is bad? It’s very good and understandable.

PACING TOO SLOW? I’m confused asf. Their relationship seem to develop timely. Y’all wanted them to drive the first chapter or something? It wasn’t love at first sight and this has been said in the story. I’ve read other Dan mei with way slower pacing. Mostly because it’s plot based. And those are the best romance. Not some love at first sight I have to keep you by myself and abuse you emotionally while I’m at it. ML wasn’t an a** he was so darn respectful. The side characters have their parts but I’m glad this story focus on MC and ML relationship instead of other characters. I just hate it when novels gives more thought to the side characters then the main couple.
anywho it’s a 4.1/5 read but I’m giving it a 5/5. It doesn’t deserve the 1/5

Spoiler
[collapse]
after they ended their contract, although MC fell first he didn’t cling on. He knew what he wanted.

-ML is respectful.. He’s not manipulative at all. He’s just a little dense.
- Face slapping was good when it’s needed

- Not all the characters were succumbs that just for no reason went against MC

- love ML friends

- the female “ love rival” isn’t even a rival Lol. She’s the cute younger sister. I can’t speak for her but it doesn’t seem like she actually loves ML in that way she probably admired him and looks up to him a lot.

It was alright, but the face-slapping scenes were definitely not satisfying. MC seemed pretty meek and everything was left for the ML for resolve. Why can't MC fight his own battles? Why is he so forgiving towards the people that vilified him in the first place? Lmao not my cup of tea, wanted a semi-independent MC not a wallflower one.

Grateful for the translation but I've read a very similar translation from MTL. Read it twice from the beginning as I didn't realise it had a translation. Note this only... more>> applies to the number of chapters I've read. <<less

..... I accidentally rated it 2* instead of 3 and idk how to change it....

I'm going to stop reading for now because I can't stand the way the author writes (It could be a problem with the translation but I think it's most probably the writer's fault). I don't mind a novel that has a lot of dialogue but this, this on a whole other level. There are chapters full of just dialogue of the main couple talking or the ML's friends talking without a single dialogue tag so you... more>> don't even know who is talking or where the characters are. It's a bit excessive and reminds me of old wattpad books I read as a young teen.

The main reason I'm not going to continue reading (for now, who knows maybe I'll come back one day) is the ML. I've read a lot of novels in this genre (rich guy x actor/idol) and this ML is so immature (might be his age but I'd expect someone in their early twenties to be more mature than him, especially someone who started their own company?), he's not classy with how he handles things.

Spoiler

The last thing I read before closing the tab is him beating up an actor IN THE MIDDLE OF SHOOTING?! Who does that? That's so not satisfying!!!! And that's what the author considers "face slapping"????? Wouldn't it have been way more satisfying to see that actor horrified once he realized who he offended in a more clever and classy way? And him saying MC is his "relative"...... sigh. The way he handled that whole thing made me sigh every two paragraphs.
He had to ask his actor friend to know that something was wrong? And he didn't even see the trending weibo #? If he's so great he could make the producer forgive him for beating the sh*t out of her male lead why didn't he handle this better? And how can he just be let into the production scene when no one knew who he was....

[collapse]

He's also way too ignorant? How could he not know how the entertainment industry works when his company deals with that and he's a rich guy who grew up in an environment that shouldn't be that different from the entertainment industry? I also don't get his interest in the original protagonist and now MC. He's a virg*n and never fell in love but he's willing to chase and spend that much money and wait just for Mc? How good looking is MC to make this man chase after him, he can have anyone with his status and looks so it's so confusing? If he had more experience and was a player and liked the challenge of not being able to get MC it would make sense but having him be inexperienced too makes the whole thing hard to believe.

I'm going to defend ML a bit here. I read some reviews saying he's manipulating MC to sleep with him, I didn't reach the parts where the couple start having feelings for each other but even in the first chapters the relationship between them made me questioning these reviews. They're basically in a sugar daddy/sugar baby relationship and it'd be so weird for him not to expect anything in return. (And he still didn't even force MC tod do anything so far, that's his one redeeming quality, I guess.)

Spoiler

Considering that the original guy was the one who approached ML and asked for money in exchange for sleeping with him, fully knowing ML was into him and wanted to sleep with him. And THEN proceeded to not only run away, accuse him of focring him and ask for money again but also go with someone else, I'm actually surprised ML forgave and trusted MC and didn't even rush him into doing things (which btw was super unrealistic). Even teenagers don't act the way they did when they were just exchanging kisses on the cheek. They're 20 years old, , , , , in a relationship involving getting s*x I exchange for money it was very gentlemanly of ML to introduce him to his friends and say he's his boyfriend to spare him the embarrassment and go at his own pace etc

[collapse]

Despite my complaints I would've most probably continued reading if the writing style didn't make the experience so tedious. It's not even like the dialogue gives any information to advance the story, it's just them bickering and suddenly it switches to someone else with just a line, not setting the scene at all and that character starts talking to someone else too. <<less

Pity. I was so excited to read this since I really like reading fake to real relationships. But sadly I had to drop this—

The development is too fast, the characters are made to go along with the plot even if their actions no longer make sense. I've tried to suspend my disbelief as long as I can but I just can't do it.

The dialogue, at first, was enjoyable since there are witty lines and comebacks but then it became unnecessary and boring. The dialogue sometimes go too deep into irrelevant... more>> topics. It's fine if it's short but nah and sometimes it doesn't even make sense.

And kudos to the translator but, yeah, a lot of times it makes me confused as to what the hell am I reading cause I can't understand a thing. However I'm not sure, maybe the raw itself is really just that confusing. <<less

its fluffy novel and I read it until ch 50 but I dropped it. Why?

cause its really, the word is not slow, is something like, without changing I guess?

im not that kind of person who just wanted read action or fantasy or adventure novel but I think this novel didnt have something that cause you be eager to read its continue

the routine event of their life sometimes is cute but thats all. I'm not curious to read their interaction with each other. At first I said to myself its gonna... more>> be better continue to read. But I cant read it anymore, actually I dont understand myself why I cant find any charming in the story? Cause I dont dislike slow born love and enjoyed it

and another reason to dropped it cause some Idiom they used for s*ex scene I dont know really something like ride in Road? In mountain? Something like that :/ I prefer author to cut all the scene instead write Cn idiom ab that.

im saying this but its my personal reveiew and maybe you would like it so if you are eager you can give it a try and if dont like it drop it like me <<less

Unfortunately, only 2 stars. The story eventually has not much to it Even at this chapter, it is unclear what the MC's actual character is, which means that this person is not relatable or even someone you could sympathise with. His motivations are extremely impersonal... The ML is kind of the same, and, while it is clearly explained in the story that they are kind of pinning for each other, it came a little out of nowhere. They didn't have any prolonged interactions or anything special. Only the MC refusing... more>> interc**rse in a "clever" way. I can't believe I am even writing this.

Basically, they have this relationship, which is as empty as it can be and there is little need to romanticise it - somebody rich sponsors someone poor, who basically serves the other. Somehow this is supposed to be romantic, with the MC continuously adhering to whatever the ML wants.. The MC is a bit lifeless, who even is this guy... judging from other reviews, we never find out.

The ML is just a weird person for even seeking out this strange "golden backer" relationship, what does that actually say about a person? How can anyone think it is romantic, that someone wants to pay the big buck so that they have a partner that will always just agree with everything - basically, a problem-free "relationship"? Just think about it a little more - a rich guy, who grew up not lacking for anything at all - instead of simply having a regular relationship, he intentionally wants to "buy" a person... It is only apparently better than prostitution because it is for longer time and the "prostitute" can make a career thanks to the backers investment...

That's it for me. <<less

Story is indeed slow, but I found the banter between the ML and MC to be pretty rare in this genre, which is why I like it.

It's very slice-of-life, but I like it when MC and ML have more in common (teasing each other, joking with each other, being like friends), instead of constantly confessing or admiring each other's looks/whatever that is frequently shown in other BL novels.

I haven't gotten too far yet, but so far, the relationship is pretty wholesome.

So far, I find it very reasonable that the ML... more>> doesn't trust the MC:

Spoiler

Don't forget, before the MC transmigrated, the previous owner of the body screamed at the ML in public and tried to make it look like he was being threatened by the ML, and then tried to threaten the ML with su*cide in order to get out of paying the ML back.

[collapse]

I also found it reasonable that the face-slapping took time:

Spoiler

It's a lot more satisfactory to not have a super reactionary MC. It's literally the MC's first film/job ever, it's very normal for him to be suppressed. Granted, the cannon fodder bullied him, but it's really not a big deal. It's not like his car brakes got cut, he just had to stay up later than everyone else for 3 days, and had to re-film a rain take a few more times.

[collapse]

Translation is ok, definitely edited MTL. I usually like Chrysanthemum Garden's stuff because they have good translators, but this case was kind of an exception. There was just so many CN phrases that got mistranslated instead of their intended meaning, a very quick search (or even clicking the word on Google Translate would have resolved the issue.

Spoiler

For example, colloquial for "care for" 疼 (teng) uses the same CN character as "hurt/pain", but the translator will put "X really knows how to hurt Y, " even though the context indicated very strongly that the speaker was complimenting X being good to Y.

Correct translation should have been: "X really knows how to take care of Y."

[collapse]

I appreciate the MTL editors and believe that they can make great translation, but obviously that only works if the translator actually considers the context of the writing.

Unfortunately I'll probably move to reading the raws (not MTL) next because there was just too much humor, suggestiveness, and banter that the translator didn't bother to do correctly. <<less

The other novel of this author was far more interesting. MC is a normal gay guy no comment. Just the ML is really bad, I just can't get past the few tens of chapters in the beginning. ML in this novel is too useless. A simple face-slapping of some nth line star cannon fodder actually take until some 20 chapters that's awfully convoluted and slow.

Such a unrealistic but pure and sweet love, full of warmth and peaceful.

Key highlights:

Characters development. ✔️ Chemistry between main CP ✔️

Side characters and side CP ✔️

Emotional bondage and dialogues between every other characters ✔️

Storyline and descriptive details (way to unrealistic and sweet but who don't have a sweet tooth) ✔️

No s*upid misunderstanding, No extra drama, no idiotic villains, ✔️

I was reading way too thriller and toxic BL's recently and I needed this sweetness to come back to normal life.

Definitely a good read.

I'm very forgiving when it comes to these types of novels, I know that the plot isn't intricate nor does it offer anything new to the table but this novel is just not it. It's not witty enough to prop itself up despite the bland chemistry between everybody, there's no tension, not even between the MC and the slag gong.

I don't mind slow burn, Gary Sue's, or cliches as long as it's done well. I've read two other novels from this author and both of those are far more engaging... more>> than this, so I know that the writer is capable of making a good story hence why I was disappointed when this doesn't get any better even after twenty chapters.

Spoiler

The MC talks about knowing how to be independent, and it's true, he doesn't need anybody's help to become a scapegoat. He narrates on and on about how he can handle stuff on his own and then not stick up for himself in the next paragraph.

[collapse]

The ML is refreshing, in a sense, he acts much more like a man in his twenties than any of the other young CEOs in danmei. He doesn't have his wits together either but at least he has a personality, the MC on the other hand is just there. The author tells us that MC is capable of this and that but not execute it and so there's nothing striking about him.

Pass. <<less

Honestly, like much of the reviewer, I gave up after chapter 30. This genre where the backer fall in love with the artist they are paying is not unusual but that's what make it hard for the story to stand out from the rest and that's what I don't see in this.

The pacing is slow, but honestly I usually don't mind that. What I do mind is when the pace is slow but there's nothing in it. The pacing just serves one plot hole after another and it's frustrating. Yes... more>> the romance is kinda cute but I don't see why the ML suddenly flipped 180 degree when MC promise to not betray him in the same day?? And after that revelation of promise after promises the ML suddenly spoils the MC for the sole reason that "I'm your backer" which I think make no sense at all considering the MC legit run to another man's arms time after time?

Aside from that confusing hole we are presented by the MC trying to be an actor with the ML helping here and there. I actually don't mind the MC timidness since it actually make sense that as a newcomer he doesn't want to make trouble but.. That's it. I can't see his personality at all (aside maybe being helpless) which is confusing since the MC personality should've been fully introduced by this point but nope.

Another thing that I don't really like is his consistency of his intimacy with the ML. The fact that he's catching some feelings so early when not even a couple chapters before this, he's so adamant about not getting close and making a point about the relationship being purely transaction, is so annoying. I just feel like there's no development at all to end up at that point.

Don't even mention about face slapping. The only face slapping I see is the MC being helpless all the time and honestly, even I am embarassed for the MC reading it at this point. I guess I just like face slapping if it's through the power of the MC themselves because I don't see the difference between the MC and a pretty vase breaking again and again.

The only redeeming quality of this novel is probably just some of ML characteristics and the fact that the MC not just straight up cry after a couple of problems.

So yeah. Maybe I'll finish this and update this but I don't know. But, do know that if you are the tipe who want to read full on fluff with feelings right from the get go then this is the novel for you. <<less

I love the slow burn so much. As a person that has been in a relationship for more than a decade I see love a lot differently then someone at the beginning of their adulthood would. I really relate to Ji Qingzhou’s feelings towards love and relationships.

They have such good mutual respect for each other, which is not what I was expecting when I started reading this. I feel like the characters are very real and well written. Character development and slice of life are two of my fovorites parts... more>> of writing and I definitely get that with this novel. <<less

A pretty generic face-slapping novel where the MC is a side character of the original plot and gets reborn for a chance of revenge. Probably encompasses most of the tropes of this kind of story.

  1. Face-slapping was pretty meh and not super satisfying. MC wanted revenge against the original MC but didn't really do anything about it except cling onto the ML. When it comes to these stories it is usually better to have a smart MC that plots their revenge but none in this one.
  2. As mentioned, this story probably has all the tropes of the genre. MC has a protagonist halo and is born into an influential family, with good grades (without trying), good face and good talent. He doesn't really have to try for anything since the ML goes along with whatever he wants anyways.
  3. Antagonists of the story were also very stereotypical.
Probably the best thing about the novel is that while the ML is also a "president/CEO of a super successful company with a good face and good upbringing", he isn't a yandere!!!!!!! (The bar is on the floor). I like how he doesn't want to force the MC into anything he doesn't want and protects the MC. Also quite a fluffy story and the MC and ML interactions are pretty cute. Don't really like the MC much though... more>> ngl since he barely did anything.

tl;dr generic revenge rebirth story with fluff. Good for a brainless cute read. <<less

Wooow. I never got stingy with ratings, but this one is a completely boring novel with no real plot included. And the dialogs - what exactly are they? Is the translation so poor that I can't understand what they are talking about?

Tried to read some light one to relax after all that heavy plotted angst novels. In a result - it was a waste of time.

It starts pretty good. I find myself being invested with the progress of the story. I'm only reading the translated version and haven't MTL'd so maybe it is still early for me to say this so I will leave it unrated for now but I will be following this story.

First the characters. I find the ML interesting because he's not perfect. He has money but he doesn't instantly know everything and needs people to consult for areas he's not familiar with. He doesn't even know when he's starting to fall... more>> for someone until it hits him in the face like a brick.

MC seems fairly normal for a protagonist. He's humble but doesn't hesitate to cling to a branch if it is offered to him. It's true that he starts in the lowest tier and thus can't stick his neck out too much. He does try to stand up for himself but he will retreat if he thinks he's outmatched. He doesn't want to be too dependent on the golden thigh and that's understandable as he's convinced that their arrangement is only temporary.

So far, I like their dynamic and banter. And that they actually feel more human. The back and forth flirting is super cute. I am interested to know how this plays out. <<less

It is so slow. I understand a slow romance, but the plot itself is unnecessarily slow. Multiple chapters are taken up showing the same event from many perspectives that do nothing to further the plot or the characters. One character finds out a piece of information, they see it and it is described in detail to the reader. And then the same information is slowly put together by other characters who never show up again. What is the point of all this if not to waste time.

I like the romance... more>> and I like the main characters. But the plot is what really makes this a hard read. <<less

I see people leaving five stars review regarding the ML and CPs overall romance, and I have nothing to say about it because romance is nice, you enjoy what you enjoy, I have no opinions on either dog blood abusive ML or gentlemanly ones. Whether the characters are depicted as good or bad, I just want to talk about whether the novel has good characterization and well made characters.

Will continue to edit this review as I keep reading, but the main problem right now is that I think some of... more>> the logic is missing. This is because the core component of the story is unexplored, unexplained and not very well thought-out/developed. I like the premise of it -- the MC is dropped into a sticky situation, where the ML and the OG Gong confrontation had already happened. The OG shou had already caused a mess, so it's up to him to get himself out of the situation, smooth things over and straighten out the logic so that the rest of the characters can continue to interact without his transmigration being completely alien to the overall story. Integration into the story is important here. There's alot of wriggle room, the plot progresses can only be logical at this point to not mess things up later. But because that logic is missing, it makes the overall story very weak and is a fatal flaw as well.

Logically, this is a strong start and a good time to establish the MCs character. Characters drive the story, good story telling depends alot on well made characters. But it was left... Unexplored? Or not fleshed out at all at such a crucial junction? The MC instead does nothing and doesn't acknowledge that actions have consequences. I can understand trying to slick his way through, but even the way it's executed -- there's no depiction of how the MC is feeling, what he's thinking, his personal thoughts or logic sense in this matter. The MC's personality isn't established that well, not to mention the other characters reaction to him is also dragged down by it as well. This makes the overall point of the story a little.... Underwhelming. It could've been great, but dropping the ball at such a moment and refusing to acknowledge or fill in the plot holes at such a critical state can only be attributed to somewhat weak writing.

Instead, the focus of the novel shifting to the relationship dynamic between the CP becomes a debilitation for it as well. Diversion can be done well, but it affects the pacing and shows weakness because in this case, there's no established based on how they interact. Well, the base is established from the premise at the beginning, but because it was never solved at such a critical juncture it becomes a weakness for the CP. Why does the ML go along with the MC? Where is the modicum of trust established? How does logically, a character who was just face slapped and had his trust broken just a day ago, why does the reaction to OG shous past action not have any consequences? Why does logically, the original strong premise of the OG shou's the past action seemingly have no weight? This makes the ML characterization becomes weaker as well, because there's no synergy with the overall premise of the world. It's abit dissapointing because of this, but I'll continue to read and edit this review as I go.

I think most of it stems from not being fleshed out enough, and not setting things well before trying to jump straight into the relationship dynamic aspect of the story.

After 20 chapters in, I've given up on how many plot holes I've had to actively ignore in order to continue on with the story. I think I can make a drinking game out of this. I do like the use of dialogues, but its not enough to compensate the glaring force commanding CP dynamic to be a certain way/progress, when the plot holes and other important things like character settings are left hanging without leaves like that. <<less

I loved this so much that I mtld it. I'm not a native English speaker so I feel my language skills dropped five points after the MTL marathon, but god it was worth it. The MC is pure gold. Adorable and smart. And the ML isn't a stereotypical overbearing president either. He's sweet, a little childish and really into consent.

A few ppl were complaining that the MC is unlikable and I dont get that at all. MC was suddenly placed in a plotline where his previous body owner was cheating... more>> and was caught in the act, along with a ton of debt, a sick mother, zero friends or relatives. He did his best in a tough using all the resources at his disposal. Also I saw one of the reviews say he should've taken care of the bullying he faced initially without the mls help but that doesn't really hold in the hierarchical and oppressive chinese society. It was something many unlucky newcomers had to deal with and the MC never pretended to be a damsel either. He also explains it later. He's an ordinary person so he has to deal with his own problems in ordinary ways instead of being dependent on the mls power. All in all, a wonderful read. I'm going to read it again after the translations done so that I can actually figure out all the nonsense that showed up in MTL. Thanks to the translators for picking this up <<less

MC falls in love first and act all kind s*upid while throwing a tantrum here and there. ML is not at all mature and look like someone who just step into the society with privilege from family background. Both of them are not even near the word “smart” needless to say about all of this plot points that is so lengthy and getting nowhere.
