Picked up by the Protagonist of a Tormented! MC Novel

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

A suffering MC novel—the main character must be forced to suffer, be oppressed until they’re hovering between life and death, dying and living here and there. They can have a golden finger, but before getting it they must pay the price. They can also have beautiful women, but all are snake and scorpion beauties, able to look at but not eat.

“Curse” is just that type of suffering MC novel. The main character Xi Wei, after being forced to experience numerous sufferings, had, at last, become the most powerful, at the same time linking together with the world’s qi and fate. After he was oppressed too miserably, he committed su*cide and buried the entire world with him.

Zeno transmigrated, in the end arriving at “Curse of sh*t motherf*cker”.

Zeno was adopted by the MC, finally becoming the number one person/wife.

Zeno: Help, I don’t want to be destined to be raised by this perverse person!

All living things (wipe away tears): You must rescue this world, ah.

Xi Wei: Come over here.

A transmigrator growing in the body of a baby while having the protagonist as a 'father' 😁

Development of the story is nice, how the Zeno helped Xi Wei to get in line with the original plot of being the strongest, but also let him overcome his insecurity on trust.

The downside is some plot is too rushed and not well described.
Spoiler

Like when a bunch of inexperienced teenagers went out to defeat a strong devil. They won so suddenly? No tactics?

When they came back, they stayed at the palace, but not going back to the academy. Is the academy okay with the bunch of students missing after a mission?

[collapse]

Overall it is a nice read. I wanted to give a 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ but ended up pressed 5 😂

Thanks to the author & translators for the story.

a lovely novel with a good translation. If u liked 'the reader and protagonist definitely must be in true love' u might also like this. When ppl say that the ML is distrustful and paranoid, its definitely true and the author resolved this distrust in a fresh way.

Spoiler

in some BLs, that problem of the ML just gets solved by the MC confessing or the ML just being paranoid and possessive from time to time. But here, the MC forced him to confront this distrust, and basically told him, ur worst fear has already happened, what r u still afraid. Its f*cked up but I love it. For me, its such a good (tho messed up) confession cos he was like, I had a chance to betray u but I didnt. U hurt me but I forgive u. I can go anywhere in the world but I chose to be with u.

Anyone who's a fan of transmigration, the MC "saving" the MC, the ML going kinda crazy bec of the MC, this is for you.

if you are hesitating whether not to read or read, dont. Just go ahead and read it. And if you get discouraged while reading, dont be. Things felt confusing and rushed through out the end, but yall trust the author, it will all make sense soon.

The initial volume where our ML and MC tried to survive the harsh territory of Ya Se City was probably my favorite period in the entire series. Characters were well-explained in their motives and served a clear purpose. (Especially the Father-Daughter Duo that was Li Hun and Xiao Wu). Zeno’s monologues were enjoyable to say the least.

In the latter half of the story, we see how the evolution of caretaker-ward becomes lover-lover, and I find their relationship endearing to follow.

BUT, (and these are the reasons why this book is... more>> not entirely perfect)

- Characters that are outside the main duo are one dimensional. While some do have interesting stories to tell, plotlines that do not concern our couple are largely ignored.

-
Spoiler

The sudden betrayal was, well, sudden. I understand that our ML has trust issues, but the series of events that followed in order to “fix” these issues were so out of bounds that I nearly dropped the book, if not for the fact that I was already 5 chapters to the end.

Overall, do I recommend reading this? Yes. Volumes 1-3 were incredibly written and translated, (sort of like the missing backstory that I never got from SVSSS by MXTX). The love story is problematic, and I enjoyed it for every stab it gave to my dead heart. <<less

I love all the characters in this novel even the antagonists. Some of you might not like the last 2 chapters but not me hehe, the ML overcome his fears in that chapters. I love how the story end at the starting point.

Kudos to the author, all the characters are unique.

Kudos to the translator-samas for translating this.

ps. The extras are too cuuute.

Its a pretty good story. The MC transmigrates in to a novel as a baby and is raised by the ML. It was cute and sweet with a few major events during that time.

During the entire nivel, most of the time I would forget that the MC was still a baby or just became a teenager since his way of thinking was exactly that of an adult which was very refreshing. I've read a few novels where as soon as the character transmigrates or reincarnates with their past memories, they... more>> totally adopt the mindset of a child which gets boring. Luckily that did not happen in this novel.

The ML and MC "officially" get together towards the last few chapters and its honestly kinda dark. But I digged it!

Spoiler

Everything the MC did was for the ML even if he had to betray him. He stole his ring, pretended to side with the enemy, and in the end killed the enemy. But the ML didn't know it was for him and instead just thought that the MC betrayed him, which was sad. Then the ML finds the MC about 4 years after that incident and asks him him he wants him to kill him. And I just loved the way the MC was like "r*pe me. Then kill me". I found it kind funny (maybe just my twisted sense of humor).

[collapse]

The reason I took out a star was cuz by the middle, towards the end, I was getting pretty bored of this novel and basically just skipping the chapters after reading 3 or 4 sentences. But then it starts getting interesting again later on. <<less

It's a great novel and I really like the romance between MC and ML which can be taken as we can't hide our true personality to fall in love.

But still it was a novel with fluffyness and heated romance!!

Great, great novel. The story is just lovely and there are so many lovely characters. Sometimes I feel sad for Zeno because of what he has done for Xi Wei, and Xi Wei has done so much for Zeno. It is such a beautiful story about trust. Really great.

Plot and Story!!! Very well done. I really like this transmigration story where there is a bit of darkness and pain because of the changes from the original book that the MC had read. The MC, Zeno, read a book that he... more>> really loves and ended up finding himself in the body of the first character introduced to the Protagonist during the novel. The ML, Xi Wei, aka the Protagonist, is entrusted the baby Zeno and they grow up together. Zeno wants to stop everyone from betraying Xi Wei and he doesn't want Xi Wei to feel the pain of betrayal. The story is decently paced and very interesting. I will admit that all the fight scenes aren't very well written and are kind of just written like, magic magic magic, oh he dead. But there aren't many fight scenes, so it isn't too noticeable. The story is much more focused on the MCs and their story rather than fighting. The character development is actually VERY well written, some of the best written character development I've ever read.

The beginning is focused on the MCs growing up, it is actually almost reminiscent of, Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain Plan, but specifically all the good parts of it and none of the bad ones. And also it was only really similar in the first two volumes of this novel and the beginning of the other, it was both like child raising and they were similar in vibes. The MCs are both trying to accomplish similar things. It can also be considered a much better version of Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain Plan, and how to do this type of story right. The first volume was very cute and rather well done, it was probably the best paced and written part of the whole novel. I actually really liked how Xi Wei raised Zeno because it was rather realistic on how someone with trust issues would do it. And I appreciate how they addressed Xi Wei's trust issues and solved it. It was all very natural. And the author also did a good job at doing that 11 year age gap, Xi Wei doesn't really have the normal morals of people and Zeno knows he isn't really as young as he looks, so it works. They don't even technically do the *ahem* s*x until Zeno is a bit older (although still technically underage, but with the appearance of an adult). Although there were a lot of time skips and it wasn't always the smoothest, you really were able to fully grasp the story and the emotions of the characters.

Romance + The MC and the ML. The romance was done very well. Zeno already had a rather abnormal personality, he was a huge fan of Xi Wei too. He was completely willing to give his life for Xi Wei's well being and during the 3rd volume (I think) he even sacrifices himself a few times for Xi Wei. Xi Wei also isn't the most normal person either and is lacking many morals. They both have a sort of emotional reliance on each other and really do care about each other. They both like what the other gives them and just being around the other. Especially in the last volume, they really come to see eye to eye. The romance was also handled especially well. Xi Wei didn't really like Zeno romantically at first, but Zeno figured out his emotions quicker. Zeno forces Xi Wei to face his greatest fears and his own emotions. Zeno, after making Xi Wei go a little insane, carefully drags him back to reality then forces him to face it. Honestly, this is a very good approach in this case. Xi Wei would never face the issues between them unless he is forced into a corner. Zeno was quite brave and really showed character development to stand up for himself and MAKE their relationship equal. The last extra hasn't been updated yet, but the extras so far are very sweet.

Side Characters. Very well done, they all have their own personalities, development, and changes from the original plot. Although not everything is brought full circle for all the side characters, they all change in some way, or at least the more important ones do. They all play a part in showing the change from the original book's plot to the current time line and also change the main characters. They are all super memorable and there is a variety of names from different places and aren't super complicated so it is easy to remember. THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS HUUUUGE <3

Its a really good novel and I feel like it is a bit different from everything else, it is quite unique and more obviously unique than other novels. The representation of poverty and helping people is very well done. I really like this novel that is so focused on our two lead's emotional development. Very good. Would reccomend. <<less

This novel is definitely unique!

First, it was because the ML taking care of MC since baby and he himself was only 10 years old.

Second, the Crossdressing moments. It wasn't played as joke nor seriousness. It was important but also very refreshing how they played it.
Spoiler

MC wear dress since baby and ML doesn't think it was weird at all. MC need clothes after all. He stopped though when he forced to be apart from ML for few years.

And then ML also crossdressed in the future with MC to go to event that only allow women so he could get potion for MC. He also wasn't troubled by it.

[collapse]

The ML is unique. His Stoic, Cold, Indifferent personality, but in the way the author write him, made him very interesting character.

The MC was pretty ordinary at the beginning, except the part that he was just a baby when he transmigrated/reborn. Being helpless child and we get to see how ML taking care of him. But MC is also very determined character. From playing hugging protagonist's thigh to planning to give happier life for ML even when if that mean he has to play as villain. The Last two chapters made my heart aches. (Extras excluded)

It's HE. It's also Slowest of Slow Burn AF! It wasnt spectacular, but it's still Wonderful Enjoyable Great Novel! And I Love it! 👍

Truly a gem!!! Loved the way the story grasped the concepts of poverty and reality, trauma and tragedy, love and healing. We get a glimpse of MC being entrusted to ML by MC's mother at the end of her flight (life) and then MC and ML building up trust over the years, growing closer and overcoming all the ordeals together, but ML not being able to put his complete trust on MC despite going through those hardships because of his past. I know the "paranoia" element is.a bit too much,... more>> but that's how an "anti-social" mind works. The ML suffered hardships, but it was not only because of others but also thanks to his own insecurities. The MC approached ML, slowly reformed him, not to become a "good" person but to understand himself. There is truly no innate goodness in this world which is untainted. There'll always be some selfish whims mixed in there. This is the "realistic" element I'm talking about. It was a journey from young to adult, from trust and dependence to love and from rejection to "acceptance".

Spoiler

I really liked the ending. The MC ruthlessly made the ML face his true self, his own insecurities towards the end, made him "accept" his true self and understand that he's neither a "perfect" being nor needs to be one. He accepted the ML despite his flaws.

[collapse]

I believe to be able to draw the characters and their relationships and all those emotions with such clarity, it's truly a talent. So kudos to the author for this👍👍👍 <<less

From the description given, I was expecting something like the villain rehab plan or scum self saving system where the MC with his great kindness will thaw the frozen heart of the ML and the ML will fall in love and be possessive of him. But I was utterly wrong!

Rather than other xianxia/fantasy BLs, which focus on things I mentioned above and things like ML and MC improving their powers/world building. This was WHOLLY focused only on the interactions and relationship between the two leads. There wasnt much description given... more>> about the setting of the the world and nothing much about character appearances and background was given. There wasn't even much dialogue in it.

Just as other reviews said it was a slice of life, Starting from the two children relying on each other and giving each other their utmost trust. But since the ML originally was extremely paranoid and untrusting, that trust was only for the MC as a baby. When truths were revealed and they got older, their relationship faced many ups and downs too (which I won't mention because spoilers~) That was it, It was all about them. There was no focus on action/magic/mysteries of the world. Even if the ML/MC got stronger it was shown in timeskip and we weren't even given example of how stronger they got. Instead of them, Asil and Xia Zuo were both OP af making me think like they were the main couple.

I knew this was the story in which ML raises the MC and then they become a couple. Even tho I hate such stories, I still read this because first MC was really not a child mentally (unlike the other stories) secondly the ML himself wasn't much older or a parental figure for MC but rather they both relied on each other/giving each other support. But still it made me a little uncomfortable (don't hate me on that).

As the original novel was about suffering, then Ofcourse sufferings befell our main couple too. So the whole novel is watching them deal with those with lil happy times~
I don't really think anything else is developed much in the novel to talk about except the main relationship. MC was a typical loyal to the Novel Protagonist Reader but he figured out his own feelings and devised his own plan to let both of them become a couple. Salute to him for that. He was quite sensible. ML on the other hand as already stated was paranoid af, seeing that he trusted only the MC and after figuring out that MC could be his ideal partner, he became possessive over him rather than love him (but it was resolved soon). Nothing to say about side characters tho. As I already said, they were not fleshed out.

The ending as everyone said was really lovely. Lovely enough to make my heart warm and I too like other sisters changed my rating from a 3 to 4 just because of that
Spoiler

Zeno already knew that ML never fully trusted him so he betrayed him.i thought the betrayal was only for him to help him get the stone of destiny but it was to help the ML know that what he feared happened but it wasn't what he thought because the MC never betrayed him. Thus settling his doubt. Then the MC also showed his own love by indicating that he can run away from him easily and doesn't covet anything of him. He only came back because he loved him not for his protection! Wow what great planning! Even I didn't think that ML was still so paranoid that the MC had to resort to this. But with this, ML finally really genuinely loved him now!

[collapse]

Extra 1 was about MC's background.I hope Extra 2 and 3 are about future events! And I really really wanna read Asil and Xia Zuo's story though. They seem such a sweet and OP couple!

Overall, this novel really did take a quite different approach from other novels and it did a good job. But still I regret the lack of world/character building, background and development. It was a fine read tho. Nothing ground breaking but still it was decent. There's nothing thrilling or hype in this. Its a calm read you can enjoy leisurely. <<less

Not your stereotypical transmigration novels and I have to say this; I love this novel, different from most of your danmei transmigration. One of the best novels I've read.

Lets start with our characters: MC is different with most of our damei shou/uke/bottom MC. Not only did he made left (half reluctantly) MC to train, he made ML face his fears and risked the risk of getting killed by the ML. He is hardworking and courageous and did everything for the sake of both of them not just for the ML.... more>> I love his character and how logical he is.

ML is very cold, cruel and ruthless to the bones just like what MC said but he's no as*hole. He is very indulgent and soft to our MC and very possessive. He wants total control, he relishes on the feeling of another's life in his hands. You could say he's one of the darkest ML in the danmei world. Although he loves MC there was still some invisilbe boundary between the two of them - in which I won't spoil you because you'll have to read to know what I'm talking about. ML tried to put on a perfect gentleman mask in front of MC. Our ML's not perfect or like any other ml, he's obsessed and paranoid, he's cold and odd but he's perfect for our MC. He's brave and smart, calculating and careful, meticulous and caring, he's never careless and protects and never refuses MC's desires. I love ML and I understand him. (He's kinda sorta a tad bit like XIU from "READER AND PROTAGONIST")

Our side characters are okay with depth and background, not stepping stones.

Now onto our plot. I'll be honest. Really not your stereotypical danmei. Everything is consistent and no visible plothole, you may have questions like me in the end but it won't affect the whole story. It's focus is consistent with a clear goal and everything was worth it after you finish. You may cry, you will laugh and smile and you won't be disappointed. I won't reveal any scenes so I'm only expressing my experience reading and observing the plot. I like how the author wrote and connected and integrated every scene and arc with the next one and the characters. Very well deserved of my admiration.

The translation is great with few mistakes which you won't really notice at first.

All in all, Five stars. One of the best you won't regret reading. <<less

(Translation is 5 stars, I give the novel plot itself 4) The beginning is really great; the author manages to keep some mysteries and suspense even though the MC Zeno basically knows the plot of the story. I also enjoyed both Xi Wei's and Zeno's characterizations! If you like strong and smart kid characters struggling to survive together while learning about human relationships, this one's for you.

However, the final volumes seem really weak - I know the story was wrapping up but with all the drama we experienced early... more>> on with the characters it seemed like a letdown, , ,

Ho ho ho! What a novel! It wraps up so beautifully I can barely believe it! I've read quite a few Danmei novels to completion and this is one that made my heart do a little Rat-a-Tat-Tat at the ending, it was very well done!

The actual story itself is also very well though out and dives deep enough into the world that I never really felt like that author was flying by the seat of their pants haha my only wish is that I got to see more of the... more>> side characters, as the author really gave us some gems. They really treat their characters like, characters, instead of plot points to get the MC and ML to bone, and sometimes, I appreciate that.

Side note: Xiao Wu I love youuuuu!!!! You grew so much you little cutie! This isn't really even a spoiler but I couldn't resist the pull of the yellow box lol

If you're tired of OP blackened lone wolf type MLs (aka stereotypical cnovel leads), then this novel is for you! Heck this story got me addicted to novels where the author abuses the main character but that's not what this review is for--

Back to the review, this novel's selling point is baby Zeno- I mean how our cinnamon fanboy Zeno prevents our ML from blackening (by making him a young father). It's interesting how much a cold person can change just by taking on the responsibility of another's life (aka raising a child).

Excuse my poor choice of words but please do give this novel a try. It has an underdog Ml, fanboy MC, and its BL!!

What more can you ask for? <<less
