At least 3.5, but can be pushed to a flat 4.

It's refreshing seeing a first-person perspective written! This is the first danmei novel I've seen that employed this POV. Song Yao's thoughts were fun to follow and his apologetic quips directed at Tianshu reminded me of Shen Yuan apologizing to Luo Binghe in his heart whenever he has to do something awful to complete a mission (they're in the same shoes here). I like how it wrapped up, and I like how the heart-breaking part was resolved later on. The... more>> romance between the actual main pairing was subtle and sort of vague, and felt like a borderline bromance more than anything for 99.99% of the story. Sure, there were shows of affection, but those were fleeting and the ML acted unaffected when faced with the MC trying to sweeten him up (though I guess you see more of the ML's true feelings whenever he gets prickly when he's jealous). It's still a nice experience and I enjoyed reading this even if my expectations before I started were subverted in the end. It's a short read too (only 700-something pages!), so that's a rebreather compared to some series that drag on and on and on. <<less

actually I don't like stories that use the first person point of view (MC). meaning here MC will use the word "I" in describing the story. but reading the reviews made me curious how the story actually goes? because why do the reviews feel weird like you can't guess the story even though you read some of the reviews and make you have to read it out of curiosity. maybe it's also because I've read a lot of novels here so I need something that can't be guessed, because some... more>> novels you can guess the story just by reading some of the reviews here. well enough for this....

now about this novel. this novel is about how unlucky and unlucky MC is. MC is really pathetic I really want to give him some love...

but I like MC and ml... especially the story of the two of them, but their story is a bit lacking where the story feels more for side characters... but nearing the end of the story for MC and ML is very touching... I cry... they really love each other very deeply... so sweet and touching... a very deep love story that is told smoothly... when MC died by sacrificing himself for ml, then how ML collects mc's soul and takes care of MC in every reincarnation...

the extra chapter is the one that really touched me... actually this is a beautiful story really...

actually their love is described smoothly... very subtle... but actually I think they love each other very deeply which is very touching... but that won't be explained too much, so I think the key in reading this novel is to just believe in how you think when you read it... because the author doesn't really explain it, so just believe in your thoughts and assumptions. this story is actually a little interesting at the end... and I do not like the side characters. and I really need POV ML to corroborate my assumptions. <<less

I really enjoyed it, but I think the romance of the main characters should have been explored more.

I wanted a 2nd season with more romance between the main characters and how things turned out after MC and ML saw each other again

- Danmei

- Xiaxia

- Reincarnation

- Karma

- Plot back and forth with salted fish MC

- More accurately called communication is not right than a misunderstanding. MC felt he was in the wrong time and place because at first, he didn't know anything

- The knife is there in the beginning but is not realized until the end. The stab was slow but deep. Bleed at the end. The angst that only a few readers can feel

2.5/5

it took me several tries to get into this novel, mostly because there was so much happening in the beginning 40+ chapters, but nothing that felt relevant to the MC, Song Yao. Yes, the MC was forced to be the obstacle between the two star-crossed lovers, Tian Shu Xingjun and Nan Ming Dijun. But for me, there was no urgency to it, and I could not bring myself to care about the MC until half way in.

the ML is also revealed quite a bit later on, although there were hints... more>> sprinkled throughout. I did end up liking the CP. I just wish there was more time devoted to the relationship, as opposed to pre-relationship.

my favorite part of the novel was the last 15+ chapters, though the ending did feel very rushed. There was a good resolution, but it wasn't an emotionally satisfactory one. If there had been at least one more chapter after, I would've rated this slightly higher. <<less

Tried to get into it but couldn’t.

Too much complicated immortal context that didn’t really add much to the story for me.

Didn’t feel anything for the two lovers going through the trial (especially since they’re said to have done some mean stuff to the MC).

Didn’t feel anything for the MC and supposed ML either. Some faint sparks between them but not really... couldn’t get invested in the story.

My favourite part is

Spoiler

probably the fox spirit. Wish he were the MC instead haha.

After hearing about the plagiarism, when I actually loved the drama ten miles of peach blossoms.

So I expected some realy huge momental story, but alas the disappointment.

I thought it'd get better! I really tried, but it didn't meet my expectations. The plot didn't make sense to me. There was hardly any romance.

This could have been an amazing saga, instead of this disjointed messy tale. Up to chapter 60-ish this read like 2 disconnected stories held together by poor stitching. We see or rather we are told how everything was connected in the end, but still.

Epic scenes happen in just a few sentences or with an info dump. Most of the interesting parts are told instead of shown. This story, especially the first part, needed to be fleshed out. So many characters are introduced then disappear, I only kept track of like... more>> 5 of them.

I still don’t know what the Jade Emperor was trying to achieve by sending SY to the mortal realm. Still don’t know why NM and TS got a love tribulation. Still don’t know if the heavens are homophobic or not.

It’s a quick afternoon read, so I’d recommend it as an intro to greater epics. Heard mention of some type of plagiarism...I know nothing, have done zero research to ascertain the facts, but imo, those two stories have absolutely nothing to do with each other, except for some tropes seen in every other xianxia novel <<less

This is so good. Song Yao deserves so much hugs and kisses. I went thru a bit of a journey in the beginning of the book because I accidentally jumped on a wrong ship xD (I was confused who was the ML lmao) but I redeemed myself by reading some spoiler and MANNNNN, I asked myself how I was so blind and shipped the wrong couple??! Anw, def a good read

Stumbled upon this accidentally and did not expect to love it so much. It did not have overtly dramatic moments just a normal-paced story with subtle hints of flavor that makes you just engrossed in the story.

Song Yao and Heng Wen's story is very sweet with a little bitterness added to it and I especially like the way their love for each other was portrayed. It did not have soul-rending promises or declarations just their actions and the extent they would go for each other.

It was all very simple, yet... more>> so beautiful. Definitely recommend reading this. <<less

SPOILERS!!!

I have mixed feelings about this story. At first, I was shipping Tian shu and song yao. Kind of felt weird when I realized that I was shipping the wrong couple cuz I really wanted them to be together. I feel like NMJ didn't deserve Tian shu. All in all every relationship is so messed up. I just wished Tian shun tried to work it out with SY tho. (Altho I know that it is impossible). But the story was still worth a read. It's just that I'm just... more>> heartbroken that my fav couple didn't end up together, tho in the end I had positive feelings for SY and HW couple.

I cried at the end. <<less

Pretty good, the heartache from the MC's fate of being alone forever feeds my sad soul. It is a little idle at times but generally this is a good light read. Many thanks to the translators for the smooth translation work!

Satisfied but still craving more... That's the only way I can summarize how I feel.

Contrary to public opinion I really love the MC and ml, I enjoyed the book and I cried a lot. The story actually comes together around the last 10 chapters or so, no crazy dog blood drama or whatever, the part about the key to heaven's gate being lost really cracked me up.

In all, though I enjoyed the book, I feel like we were cheated out of enjoying their relationship, we got to see a lot... more>> about their friendship over a thousand years but barely had anything to hold on to when it came to their relationship, we only got to understand with just a few sentences about what happened to ML after MC did what he did which was actually very disappointing.

I really wished we got more of their relationship, that's all, more of them cuddling, going out together, basically doing what couples do cuz I really loved their relationship dynamic.

It's a very good read, and a HE also, I'll highly recommend <<less

It's... ok? The pacing is very slow and there's not much plot. A lot of it is shoved in at the end with pages upon pages of long winded exposition. I wish it developed the main couple's relationship more but alas, their relationship at the end was pretty much the same as it was in the beginning and since so much of the development happened in the past the reader doesn't really get to see it.

There was a very unpleasant scene where MC kisses an unconscious ML when he was... more>> magically turned into a child. Totally unnecessary. Sigh. <<less

The only this story do wrong is IT ENDS JUST LIKE THAT.

Ofcourse the process is intriguing. I love my time reading it. But just like many else good novels, its too stingy when come to the end of story.
Spoiler

furthermore, there are no side stories *cry

This novel is wonderful. I've been searching a novel to read, many can't hold me to read more than 5 chapters. I'm glad to find this novel.

First who are curious who the MC and ML is then you are curious about what happened to then and then what will happen to them. Within few hours you will realize, ‘oops I binge read this’ that is how good this is.
