Until he became the lowest-ranked master, his lonely and luckless life never changed.

Suddenly one day, a descendant injected him with a nanomachine, and the machine started ‘speaking’ to him.

[I am the seventh generation Nanomachine manufactured by Sky Cooperation, and I am operating as a central nerve connected to your brain.]

“What? What are you talking about?”

This was beyond the boy’s knowledge, he turned pale.

The Nanomachine linked to his cerebrum realized the User was not understanding a single word it said.

“Who are you, and why are you doing this to me?”

[“I am the seventh generation Nanomachine.]

“Nano Machine?”

[Yes, Nanomachine.]

The boy’s face hardened.

Mashin was the deity the Mashin Religion worshipped, along with the Sacred Fire.

The religions’ Master communicated with Mashin.

“Um, are you really Mashin?”

The boy knelt down and asked with a trembling voice. At this, the Nanomachine attached to his cerebrum realized it had been misunderstood.

Premise:

MC is the illegitimate son of the Heavenly Demon in the usual wuxia setting. Due to the demonic cult operating on "might makes right" logic, he's oppressed and about to be killed just before he could enroll into the Demonic Academy (read: boot-camp) with the other princes. However, his descendant from the far future saves him and injects him with nanomachines, which serve as his cheaty system. Using its ability to instantly heal him, upload data directly into his braid, and create augmented reality training simulations (plus whatever else the... more>> plot demands), the MC enrolls anyway, and the fight for the position of the crown prince of the cult begins. Hijinks ensue.

Setting:

The usual creative commons wuxia world. The story mainly focuses on the Cult of the Heavenly Demon, who are usually the bad guys of this setting. The world building related to the internal structure of the cult and how it came to be is consistent and makes internal sense, but since these guys are usually the baddies, the author had to introduce an even worse group of new baddies who antagonize everyone to make them look better in comparison.

Characters:

The MC goes through an arc where he starts out a timid kid, and through his experiences and other people's influence, he slowly morphs into a calculating, callous monster kept in check by his loyalty to his supporters. The change is believable, though sometimes a little forced, such as him being an expert torturer without any prior experience, or how he goes from hotheaded to a callous, cold-blooded mastermind due to a single discussion with another character, but he's still at least decently written. Aside from him, we have a whole gamut of supporters and antagonist. For the former, there are even too many of them, so it's hard to keep track of them and they get little development, while the latter are usually killed off really quickly, only to be replaced by the next bad guy. On top of that, we have a single love interest who mainly just exists so that the author can occasionally point at her and say, "Look, she's the love interest. They like each other. Care." I didn't.

Plot:

MC gets OP cheat nanobots from the future, uses them to power up so that he can climb the ranks and confront his father about abandoning him and his mother. In the process, he learns super-special-awesome sword and saber techniques, faces a bunch of different opponents that attack him, for half a page it looks like he's in trouble, but then he pulls out one of his five or six different super-special-awesome techniques and one-shots the opponent. Rinse and repeat while growing stronger and rising in the ranks until there's nowhere else to rise.

Overall:

I'm not going to lie, the first third of this story kind of got me. As formulaic and silly as it was, the MC's development made sense and the worldview of the demonic cult being seen from the inside, where cutting off hands and torturing people were just everyday occurrences everyone was used to, was an interesting perspective, but after a certain point, everything becomes bland. The power levels balloon out of proportion, fights become meaningless and lack tension because they all end the same way, there are way too many interchangeable characters running around, and the MC becomes one-dimensional and unrelatable once he becomes the Lord. In short, the early parts are good, gets worse over time. I would still give it a lukewarm recommendation, or alternatively you might want to give the manhua adaptation a try. <<less

Story started out great, except for s*upidly overpowered cheat (MC doesn't even need to do anything). Turned boring and predictable tho, the moment MC became the Lord.

Main character is cruel and immoral piece of shit, author seems to think that caring for those close to him is some sort of redeeming quality.

Depiction of time travel and advanced technology is absurdly childish and convenient (for author).

R*pe scene? Through it was unnecessary, reviewers outrage is pretty entertaining. How is it different from performing operation on unconscious person with consent of the... more>> family; just not with scalpel. <<less

Thanks for free novel.

Firts of all, in OP MC novel category, this will be lack of development. But so far MC is just a 15 years old when he test the feeling of true power. Anyway lets start with review shall we?

Spoiler

The world is small, and it even in the distant past, Murim is a cultivator who train their body and mind to become one with the universe. So I thought. Plenty of history is neglected but for all, its good.

Spoiler

MC development is tremendous, including his maturity of body and mind. Of course plot hole is there to be balanced because of how op MC can get.

Initially one of the better OP MC stories out there. Yeowun is a a very capable and ambitious MC, and he will do anything to achieve his goals. He is also ruthless when it comes to his enemies, he doesn't do anything half-assed and goes all the way. He's not afraid to let others know how strong he is and makes them regret being born. I find these traits to be very rare for an OP MC especially when reading other power fantasy stories so this was a nice surprise.... more>> I too felt the plot started becoming less interesting after he achieves his main goals. Why the author decided to introduce yet another enemy faction when the previous enemies haven't even been developed further, who knows. Overall, it was still an enjoyable read as long as you know what you're getting into <<less

Gotta agree with sawwon's review. The story is great but it gets boring fast after the MC takes over the cult and all of the most enjoyable threads are wrapped up neatly.

There's still a major enemy that's been foreshadowed for a while, but IMO their existence isn't interesting enough to keep reading.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Found it solely because of it's sequel which I will be moving to now.

Sure, it progresses really quickly, but it's an OP protag, although it's tagged weak to strong don't expect any actual weakness from the MC, he gets ungodly strong pretty quick.

The thing that made me actually like the novel though.

... more>> He's evil. He should be, he's in a demonic sect, but the amount of books I've read where the MC just turns good or isn't actually evil is ridiculous.

A lot of people hate on the s*x scene, meh. It wasn't exactly horrid, it was just incapacitated hoo haa. It's just a story after all, don't get so offended. <<less

I found this story because I found its sequel, Descent of the Demon God, which looked like something I could read, so I decided to read the prequel first after finding out about its existence. Thus, I found a good story whose quality deteriorates with time, but which also has a good ending. It's good enough for me to slightly look forward to the sequel, and in fact I will proceed to the sequel after writing the review, so expect my review to appear under the sequel a while from... more>> now on as well.

But let's get to business here.

The setting is good. I generally like Korean wuxia (Korean wuxia best wuxia, Chinese sucks with a few fine exceptions), and the setting delivers, though it's also a bit vague if I remember correctly the start of the novel. However, it's solid at the very least.

The plot, well, is very good at the start, but gradually deteriorates as the story proceeds. I'd say that the best is until

Spoiler

MC becomes the Cult Leader

[collapse]

at which point the quality starts to steadily go down. If I were to rate the plot of different arcs, then

Spoiler

the plot of the beginning is 3/5 at best, the academy is sometimes 4, sometimes 5 out of 5, after leaving academy we've got 4.5/5, then it descends to 4 and 3.5 gradually until reaching 3 at best, and then climbs back up to 4 or so near the end.

[collapse]

As for characters, the protagonist is OP and chad. I also like the subtle character growth (well, nothing subtle about the man he became, but it was subtle how it was never pointed out by the narration). He generally lives up to the "Heavenly Demon" type character from Korean wuxia.

As for other characters, it varies. Some characters seem good but are shit, while others seem sh*t but turn out not to be shit, so it's nice that not all is what it seems. Many characters survive in the novel (as in, still appear, something most Chinese novels forget lmao), but unfortunately few of them stay relevant, and usually have very little role (they just are), which is sad.

The harem is garbage.

Spoiler

The buildup for the first love interest was good, but once their relationship advanced, the author pretty much stopped giving a damn. She was still in the story, but had little presence and role. The consolation prize is that their relationship continued, just "off-screen."

Meanwhile, the second interest was forced into the story (the usual have s*x with unconscious girl to save her trope many clumsy writers like), but what I liked was that it didn't develop into an actual relationship.

The third love interest was just a bait for readers to think she's an actual love interest. Which is actually fortunate because she had a fiance, and I'm fan of neither netorare nor netori. If you have skill, go wife a girl who is single.

With all that, the novel isn't really much of a harem.

[collapse]

so I was disappointed, but the plot was good enough for me, who came to read this novel (well, technically its sequel) for harem's sake, to read the novel until the end anyway. There's some hope, I guess: maybe the author will learn from this, and will write a better harem in the sequel (which also has the harem tag). Especially since it has polygamy tag, which is rightfully missing here. We will see.

I quite liked the ending. It connected with the sequel very well (as much as I can say this having read only the introduction of the sequel). Also, it was generally well written. The author could've forced the connection with the sequel, but it wasn't forced at all. Good job, author.

Minor issues with translation (how on hell is "visor" an onomatopoeia? Also, I feel like there were some serious issues in the first half somewhere, but can't remember what), but at least the whole novel is translated.

Overall, I recommend to read to anyone who likes Korean wuxia (but also not recommend to anyone who only wants to read this for harem, as I did in the beginning). It's a solid novel (for me, 3 stars is a good rating). <<less

Honestly the novel had an interesting plot to say the least but I had a lot of issues with the novel.

The novel had alot of plot armour and the MC was beyond idiotic and isn't pragmatic which makes reading the novel beyond annoying the author always gets out of his way to great situations that could normally be resolved by the normal way only to have the MC do something unexpected and s*upid. We can never see the battle of wits we want to see between rivals or foe's of... more>> the MC. He is to tyrannical which makes reading the novel extremely boring overtime like he does s*upid sh*t and gets away with it.

The power levelling in this novel is also messed up. He powers up too fast which makes it lackluster. The other characters are also forgettable <<less

I'm enjoying this story as OP MC who trampled everyone and turn the table of dangerous enemies.

Romance, you might as well forget about it. There's romance but meh.

But the last chapter, the ending is disappointment. It makes me want to rate it 1 star, but since I enjoy the journey, might as well ignore the rush ending.

In my opinion, it starts off really good. However, halfway through, the nano machines become an all-out cheat that can grant him power with a command and heal him from almost any injury. At first, nano was more like a partner that helped him gain an edge over his opponents. The MC wasn't very talented at fighting, but he could make up the difference with nano. The fights and training were still 90% the MC and 10% nano. However, later on, training basically turns into "Nano give me power" or... more>> "Nano heal all my injuries." I don't mind overpowered main characters, but when it feels like they're using a cheat code and not working for it, it becomes silly. <<less
