What a shame. Considering the previous books of this author I thought that this would be a win-to-win, however I do not know what I found more boring, whether nationalist indoctrination or lectures in invented quantum physics.

On the bright side the chapters are short but I really don’t know where it wants to go.

On the romance side, there is and there isn’t, as it seems unilateral and without any chemistry.

I dropped it because I couldn't get invested into the characters. They were memorable enough, but I don't think anyone but the MC got fleshed out enough. I'm only at Chapter 43 to be fair, but what the author gave wasn't enough for me to keep going. I guess they weren't that interesting to me too.

The worldbuilding wasn't super interesting to me, but it was decent enough. I think the thing that affected me the most was how much fantasy science (quantum mechanics? idk) the author included. I truly respect... more>> the translator for translating all that ngl. But yeah, the author kept trying to explain how the powers worked through "science" and I got tired of it. I feel like those explanations would eventually stop, but I just didn't have the patience to get there. The rest of the story wasn't keeping me attracted, and I just gave up on it, haha. Also, the fact that the MC is like... older than the ML's father felt kinda weird to me, soooo...

Still, I'm giving it 4 stars because the author did do the hype/emotional moments well. The sacrifices in the story did make me feel moved, and I could understand the characters' emotions in those moments.

I liked some of the author's other novels waaay more (They All Say I've Met a Ghost; Mr. Melancholy Wants to Live a Peaceful Life), haha. <<less

The story is actually quite good. The premises and concept is fantastic, the characters are believably powerful, the author doesn't overexplain the "science".

However. The ship is extremely one sided. It gives me the feeling of a little 5 year old going "when I grow up I'm gonna marry mommy!" And the mom going "aw, if you say so honey." A type of surface level indulgence just to humor the kid because it seems like a harmless joke everyone will forget about after a week.

At no point did I really think... more>> MC actually likes ML as a suitor or potential lover. The entire time, MC was at most just going along with it because why not, what else is he doing. He doesn't care either way, and hey if it makes ML feel better if he plays along, sure.

Another point, the main thing, that started rubbing me the wrong way is that as the story progresses, it became more and more nationalistic propaganda about Chinese superiority to all other countries and races.

Every other line eventually becomes about how China is the leader of the world, only Chinese government knows what caring about citizens and protecting the motherland is about, only Chinese soldiers are willing to risk their life for their Chinese people, only China is capable of saving the world because they are a morally intellectually perfect nation. Foreigners? All lesser, greedier, more selfish, dumber, unworthy unless they worship China and give everything as a tribute to China's superiority, etc.

The author had me up until here, regardless of how the ship is just 2 popsicle sticks hot glued together and can barely sail in a sink. Because the world hopping really was very interesting, as are the powers people gained. I don't need romance to be dominant in a story.

But ultimately, the negative aspects washed away the interest I did have.

3 stars because the story isn't actually bad. But the bad aspects are just completely unavoidable, unignorable, in your face. <<less

The novel revolves around Tang Yu, a 58-year-old police officer who is approaching his retirement. Over the course of his 40-year career, he has encountered mysterious "voids" that transport him to different apocalyptic worlds.

Spoiler

One day, Tang Yu finds himself in a void alongside a highly important leader of the country, which exposes him to the government. The existence of these voids poses a significant threat, leading Tang Yu to seek out young individuals who can assist in studying the voids and finding a solution.

To carry out this mission, Tang Yu enrolls as a student in a specialized college that trains future soldiers for the country. Throughout his journey, he encounters various challenges, including protecting the people trapped within the apocalyptic world. There's also the "teenage" ML falling in love with him.

I was amused when the ML discovered that Tang Yu is actually eight years older than his father.

[collapse]

The novel offers an entertaining exploration of different apocalyptic worlds and features numerous twists, particularly towards the end, making it an enjoyable read from start to finish.

Overall, I love the story but the MTL gave me headaches (there's a lot of science involved, my brain just can't comprehend) so I will definitely reread it again after the translation is done. Thank you translator-sama! <<less

The first few chapters are fun. I'm quite excited for this novel, cause this author's IF are good reads. It takes a different angle of IF. Instead of transmigrating the protags into a different dimension, the author made the earth as the transit point. Kind of similar with Fools, Granpa Can Transform. The MC psyche as a 58 yo in 18 yo body was well built. It makes the dinamic with ML both funny and heartbreaking. And the romance ia sweet but not greasy. It's heartbreaking to see the ML... more>> so afraid of loosing MC since he's so much older. And thankfully, their relationship befit their age gap.

The arcs are pretty short, and they're unique in that there's no particular mission, the only enter the different worlds to stop the void spreading and need to go back to reality as soon as possible. Though, much of the intricacies were explored as the story progress.

It is a pretty good read with overall positive tones. Mostly because MC is so OP, but it's not boring and much packed with comedy. <<less

A solid sci-fi/superpowers action novel. Well, it's a given since the author had hands-on similar genres.

The concept of you can be thrown into other worlds entirely by random chances is fascinatingly thrilling to me (kinda like how you can be glitched into the backroom actually, except the world that each "hole"/void brought you to different worlds, not just on one space). And of course, with that, we were brought into a series of brain-tickling mysteries (in a good way) that could keep you awake till morning because you can't bear... more>> the thought of putting this novel down for a while (that was the case for me lol).

Big spoiler ahead btw:

Spoiler

Turns out this different world is a bunch of "possibilities" on how the earth can kill itself on different ways.

[collapse]

The power here also varies and the determining factor of it is "how your brain works" (not gonna spoil anymore). It is also fascinating but I personally thought that it was not given the appropriate amount of time to be explored more. Same thing with the world they were thrown in, of course, there are some that should have better be appropriately ended plotwise because well... it's a dead apocalyptic world, what else could you do there. BUT, there are some other that has a bigger potential that can be developed more and it mildly annoys me because gosh do I hate but cannot bear of rushed things... (lotsa great potential novels I've read always has this problem in various degrees, but I still cannot get used to the unending unfulfilled feeling...)

Moving on with the characters, we have MC here, a "not-so-intelligent but skilled and loyal to his duties" old man (that will soon emerge with his young skin) who has served the country since his teenage years. And then we have the ML, a brash new recruit in this military special class that will have a thing for him. Their dynamic is lowkey funny and somewhat depressing (?) as MC is a real, traditional man where having a job, wife, and procreation is the greatest success in life (don't worry, he was not being annoying about it). So, finding out that a promising young man (who was also his successor) has fallen in love with him, the first thing he did was to heavily discourage him. Though fear not, with ML's persistence, MC will eventually accept him.

Mild spoilers because I want to talk about the ending:

Spoiler

I really prefer this compared to Mr Melancholy's ending (other sci-fi work of the author). The danger was not magically ceased to exist just by pressing one button (AKA, just by uprooting the core cause), but it is still there, and so will it be for the generations to come, just like natural disasters. I just think it is more logical for a mishap/disaster that happens in the majority of sci-fi/apocalyptic stories are too whimsical to have its problem (and powers) automatically disappear just like that. Like, what about the bodies of those who had carried the powers? what about the environment that hosted these dangers? no way that they just gonna revert back to normal even if the forces that are the sources of the abnormality were no longer there.

[collapse]

Now, onto the things I am dissatisfied about. Other than my previous rambles about the underdeveloped concepts, there are also some scenarios that, one of which is (big spoiler)
Spoiler

the death of our MC. I really hate when one character's death is such a blow, everybody is talking about it, the characters are making a fuss about it, it emotionally drains you, and then the dead character somehow gets back to life just like that... It's just exasperating, it's like how the things that had happened, all of those heavy stakes that had to be done, all the emotions that it had s**ked you, were just nothing...

[collapse]
There's also the special military class that is oh-so-elite but really doesn't do much plotwise other than introducing the base team. It feels similar to those elite academies that are always there in Japanese manga/novels that always boasted as this and that but when you think closely, it actually serves minimal purpose (not too bothered about this, just gonna put this out cuz it can be a little annoying and disappointing). Oh, and there are also some unsolved mysteries that similarly cause me to beg all "open ending" or what I like to call it, cliffhanger endings sci-fi novels to go build itself a sequel.

That's all, it's been a long time since I finished this so forgive me if I said something wrong. <<less

You can't put this novel equel or compare it to any other novel.

It's not a simple novel about Infinite Flow. It's also about Duty as a Soldier and the Emotions of wanting to Protect and not being a burden of someone stronger. It's not just about a Teamwork and wanting to get Strong... But it's also about all kind of Growth.

Everything was so well thorough written it was Breathtakingly So Goooood!

They have Duty as Soldiers. To protect their Country, their World, and the people. But they don't take this as... more>> Burden. They keep try their best to Learn and get stronger to Protect and keep Legacy.

They don't want and won't let them depend on One person nor just their own self. They learn not to be Greedy and work hard Together for Safety and Bright Future.

Their Teamworks is not just to protect their specific group, but to protect each other so they could keep growing and living to protect their world! And that's Amazing...!

So yes, it's NEVER just about Infinite Flow, but also about Duty as Soldiers, and Protecting the World!

The author truly did Awesome job writing every each of Characters. Did Amazing Job writing the members of Main Group, and the Admirable Protagonists.

No Unnecessary Drama whatsoever, but things written with well Suspense and well Emotional scenes.

It was Truly Amazing Journey!

All in all... I'm Truly Absolutely LOVING IT FOREVER WITH MY CONSCIOUSNESS FOR ETERNITY AND BEYOND IN ANY UNIVERSES!!! <<less

Can not recommend enough, it's so entertaining and their dynamic is so interesting!

The ML is quite logical about his feelings, and oh my god the confession, so emotional!

The MC is op but has a good reason, and you really do feel that he is 58 years old.

Honestly recommend.

I love the story so much, even the til the end I can't tell who's the Gong and who the Shou what gives!

It was very intriguing, usually I am not into much Sci fi type of novel. But this story just gives alot of emotions that makes you feel hot blooded. I guess there's was alot of militarism, makes you feel you're part of the story, sacrifice everything for the the country and the people.

There wasn't much romance in the novel but I love the relations between MC and ML,... more>> there was respect and love, duty and sacrifice, that Zombie arc had me crying at one point it was so emotional.

I feel so bad for the MC he's been secretly saving the world for 40 years! He sacrifice so much for the country and the people. Then you find out about his story and just makes you love him and respect him more.

This a emotional driven story. A bunch of hot blooded youth facing danger to save their own country and protect their people. Also fun loving characters like the professor, the Deer and the talking System ~Sal 2. MC is Lei Feng reincarnation, we watch him guard these youths and fight against the unknown, learn and grow together to protect everybody! ~Salute <<less

Love this author!

I highly recommend their other novel [They All Say I've Met a Ghost] which is super funny mixed with metaphysics~!

I recommend this story if you like

  • very OP MC
  • weak-to-strong ML
  • not cliche or clear-cut gendered top/bottom roles
  • pretty brainy pseudosciency things where the author mentions everything from quantum physics to string theory to Bose–Einstein condensate
  • dungeon-crawler-esque fantasy/leveling up power
Some parts that was maybe a little over-the-top...

Spoiler
  • a bit too much on the science infodumps, author perhaps did not need to go into "explainer-mode" everytime a new concept was brought up
  • a bit too much on the brainwashy propaganda that people should all be loyal / self-sacrificial soldiers for the country without taking a single day off
    [collapse]
I really enjoyed the story otherwise. It's almost like those Korean or Japanese novels where "abyssal gates" or "portals" of various danger levels with monsters inside pop up all over the world (in this case, those portals are called voids), and it's more about the initial discover of the voids and how very systematically, soldiers came together to figure out how to classify and conquer them.

Translation was pretty good, definitely appreciate it! <<less

The MC is very admirable!

The beginning of this story is very interesting but as it went longer, I found myself skipping sentences... then paragraphs... a chapter because I didn't find the story as interesting as before

Maybe because it's just my personal preference and because I feel like MC is too OP and whenever they enter the void, I know they'll survive so I end up feeling no excitement

The physics part might have gotten to me as well, I didn't or couldn't understand a lot of those stuff so I found... more>> myself being less interested in the story

note to self
Spoiler

to reread? Nope

This story is really perfect !! from the premise and the world building, to the feeling of the soldiers and their wishes to protect the country and it's people... everything is expressed REALLY well... it made me fall in love with characters ❤️ as they are all 3D specially the MC.

but one little note... if you are reading it for the romance then better not.

It's amazing how the author comes up with all these things and the only downside is my lil brain not being able to keep up ૮ ◞ ﻌ ◟ ა If you like hard worldbuilding and don't mind getting emotional here and there, def reccomend!! The comedy and the translation is top notch too!!
