As the gates of doom descend, hundreds of diverse disasters are available for you to choose from.

Shipwreck, zombies, heat wave, poisonous fog, ice age…

At first, Gou Fugui refused, but, wolves in front and tigers behind, he was left with no choice but to close his eyes and jump into the vortex.

He thought it would be hard to survive in the apocalypse, but his [Quirky and Adorable Creatures Handbook] suddenly shone with the light of a golden finger!

Thus, Gou Fugui opened up the path to gather all kinds of riches and honors—

How can I survive if the sea floods the whole world?

Fear not! Turn into an otter and you’ll know how! You can float on the sea til the end of time, and you can store fish in your small pocket!

What if I don’t know how to fight against a strong enemy?

Don’t panic! Meet the flat-headed honey badger! When it comes to fighting, this brother has never been afraid of anyone!

What should I do if I’m surrounded by zombies and there’s no way out?!

Hold on! Fainting goat Fugui teaches you how to play dead and become a winner in life!

There’s also: the king of taunts, the Tibetan fox; the king of screams, the marmot; the house demolisher, ice king husky!

Although these oddballs are a little bit weird, and maybe a little bit of a waste too, there’s always going to be an odd waste that will get you through the apocalypse!

Later, every time a Doomsday Gate closed, there would be more than a few strange conversations between the gate’s survivors:

“Who closed the Doomsday Gate this time?”

“I don’t know. I only saw a Tibetan fox still alive before I fled.”

“A Tibetan fox? Why did I see a honey badger fighting against the zombie king?!”

“Wasn’t it the husky pulling the sled that closed the gate?”

After the calamity, the State compiled a confidential dossier on the saviors:

No. 000: Fantastic creatures that seem to have become Spirits.

Gou Fugui: Thank you, they are all me! ^_^

As some other comments mentioned, story wise it's nice, characters are enjoyable (not only ML and MC). But nationalism and racism goes hard in this one. Especially near the end.

I gave it 3 stars but if I were to judge only the later half of the story I would give it 1 and it would be a lot. The narrative that became the main plot at the end was literally "My country is so much better then any other, look how much they suck".

If I were to concentrate on the... more>> start I would give it 4 stars. One less because for a novel that mentions and shows the situation all over the world it's description of other countries/ nations was very shallow and often based on some stereotypes. Offensive and distasteful but at the start there wasn't much of it so it was not as much of a problem.

Example of how Africans are portrayed (they appear a little later in the story) :

Spoiler

the gratitude of the African soldiers and the people to Gou Fugui and Xie Tianwolf is much simpler-

All of them surrounded Fugui'er and Xie Tianwolf in the middle, and then danced around them for more than an hour in a passionate and cheerful dance, which felt like they were worshipping them as gods

[collapse]

To sum up I recommend reading but once you feel it's getting icky - just drop it. <<less

It started out great. It has a refreshing concept and to be honest it made me laugh out loud sometimes with all the animal chaos the MC was instigating. The story itself followed proper logic (... mostly) and the world building is quite good. And it would have been rated atleast 4 if not for two things.

A cardboard ML and Xenophobia.

The ML started out great, he had a hint of a personality in the beginning which was one of the reasons I started binging the novel. And then the ML... more>> starts liking the MC and slowly becomes a background character. Being OP but still less overpowered than the MC, kinda becomes his entire personality. The ML is relevant in some places but the MC could have done it without him anyway. I also felt that the romance was very flat. Honestly I think I would have liked this novel without the romance or the ML infact.

The xenophobia. Where do I even begin. It doesn't become obvious immediately but it catches up slowly but surely. So much so that I dropped the last 14 chapters. The conclusion is foregone anyway. I get patriotism. It's a Chinese novel mainly for Chinese people so there is nothing wrong with showing patriotism in the novel. But this? This is not just 'my country is great' this is 'my country is the greatest of the great and the rest of the world sucks'.

Spoiler

First of all every doomsday portal they enter is a parallel world. All of them are apocalyptic. So why does it have to be real countries? The author could have easily made up countries but noooo.

It starts with praising the fatherland here and there. Then you start seeing that everytime anything catastrophic happens or a base falls or people f*ck up, it happens in America which servers as a reminder for our protagonist. Then some of Europe and India and other countries follow to be destroyed as the 'Fatherland' figures everything out.

When people start gaining power cause of the doomsday gate the Americans captured the guy and did human experiments but fatherland is soooo good, the most humanitarian and would never do such a thing.

Atleast the animal part of the novel was left out this crap until the giants arc. Every other animal's power is within a normal range while the panda's is mythical... Yeah, it only activates when there is extreme circumstances but come on. They are in a parallel apocalyptic world.

In the giant arc, animals start becoming bigger and bigger and the biggest ones have nucleus inside them. If other's nucleus is eaten they become even bigger. And in the end they start fighting over the nucleus and become berserk.

This could have been handled in so many interesting ways but in the novel, animals becomes as huge as a quarter continent, starts destroying everything and ofcourse other countries gets smushed. The MC becomes a huge panda and defeats all the other animals as all the citizens cheer on for their national treasure....

And towards the end only the MC and ML have the means to retrieve core fragments of the other worlds and only they know the information required and when they say it the other countries are sceptical so MC berates them (like dude they don't even know you, they don't know you have special powers and you didn't tell them that you contacted the world consciousness for the info).

Only the Chinese have cleared the highest number of doomsday gate perfectly. (Like duh. Cause the MC can turn in animals with powers. Honestly none of that would have been possible for a normal human.)

And the countries realise the seriousness after getting an earful from the MC. They try to retrieve the cores but find that it very tough for a normal person to do so. Some proceeds to be too proud while others ask for help. (I stopped reading at this point.)

Just saying, although Russia was mentioned it wasn't treated badly as the other countries. The author is very aware of the geopolitics huh.

And these are just a few from the top of my head.

[collapse]

I felt like the author was stuffing propaganda down my throat by the end.

But I would say, give it a go. Don't let me stop you. Some of the chapters are comedy gold and the apocalyptic settings were very thought provoking. The flaws outweighed the good stuff for me but other people might like it. <<less

It. Was. Amazing!!!!!!!! I freaking loved it!!!
This was such a beautiful novel ಥ‿ಥ it showed me fun and laughter; it showed me sadness, sorrow, despair. It showed both the most disgusting maliciousness as well as the bravest upright strength of humanity. It showed just how beautiful nature could be, but also just how deadly and terrifying it could be. This novel has made me grateful for what I have now. Each arc/world that was written could make an epic thriller adventure movie. Just when you think that the author couldn't raise the tension in the next world and top the previous world, you're slapped in the face. Each world was terrifying, horrific, sometimes eerie and made you feel helpless, but the people and animals that never gave up showed the beauty of hope. This novel has become my all-time favourite novel, regardless of genre, alongside tr*sh of the Count's Family.
The main focus of this novel wasn't the romance between the main CP though it was definitely always there, developing from mutual suspicion to deep trust to love, however they would always keep their own situation in mind and didn't really let loose until everything was over (they have also become one of my fave CPs). The extras are basically pure fluff and dog food provided by the main CP though . There are no side CPs in this novel.

Very wholesome novel.

Speaking of, this is the second time I've read this kind of dungeon apocalypse theme, the first time is the "I just wanted to retire quietly", it's a great one.

Both novel were concentrated to only one protagonist, and both novel emphasize the "heroic" themed that lack many novels today. Actually it's very nostalgic, this kind of heroic themed novels were very cliche nowadays. People liked antihero protagonist, or protagonist who is very humanized today. It's hard to see this kind of traditional heroic and positive MC vibes today.

Anyway,... more>> I like very arcs, there were some arcs that made me cry, and I love the extras so much!!

But the romance...I dunno, maybe because I've only read the mtl? I dunno when their romantic plots commence, nor when did ML confessed. I was just surprised when MC suddenly kissed ml. Or maybe I was muddled in that arc when I read it, but I really dont know when MC fell in love with ml, nor when ML confessed his love.

It's like puff, they're together.

But over all, I like this novel very much. Unlike unlimited flow, horror games settings, this one greatly focuses on disaster and how human beings acted in face if such apocalitic type catastrophe.

I like to read this kind of novel. Although the MC is op, there were still times that I think I won't be able to solve the problem, but the author suddenly flashed a brilliant mind of imaginatin that no one would expect.

Btw, the novel is also very bias, the author greatly emphasis their country throughout the novel, esp at the end.

Japan and america disappear, a f when MC saved the day again, and Japan and america reappear at the map, the minister expressed his disappointment for these two countries wishing they just disappear again.

Well, our country never existed in this novel, I complained about it, esp in ice age arc. Since our country is literally in equator, man, were at the heart of Asia, but only two countries were listed there. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, except for these points, I like this novel. Recommend it for those who like apocalyptic theme novels! <<less

I love the MC and ML! Haha The animals are soooo adorable. The differences in personalities just make it more amazing (I love the tibetan fox Lmao)

About the arcs, it's a bit long and personally, I think that it can be a bit shorter. But overall it's very enjoyable. Not too much drama, not too much of 'dark side' of humanity, in short, just a bit of everything. I feel like this is more realistic compared to other apocalypse novels. The romance is very slow but you can see... more>> that the ML is very interested to MC Lol <<less

It's pretty good. But whether out of self protection or simply the author's thought, the narrative on other countries were a bit icky. You need to take it with a grain of salt.

Story wise, it's a unique take on the apocalypse genre and world shuttling. The romance is more of a side dish, almost non existent unless for the laughs. But standard ML, at least it's not an overbearing prick with savior complex. MC and ML got along nice, and I like that MC has more say in their relationship.

I quite like this novel, especially with animal elements in it. I love animals, and MC just saving them in times disaster just warmed my soul.

And you just won't be able to resist their cuteness, they're so cute!! And I especially love some of the animal characters in each arcs. They stood out.

For MC's ability/gold finger, I love the side effects that came with it. It always made the scene funny when the negative buff took effect on MC. (ML always took the brunt of it.)

I also fudging love... more>> the interactions between MC and ML. Their interaction is so entertaining to read every time.

Spoiler

Especially the husky × wolf. I can't contain my laughter every time I remember this. Iykyk.

[collapse]

They're a match made in heaven.

And MC's sister, I love herrrrr! She's an amazing character, you won't forget her.

And the ending, it just doesn't suit my tea I guess, but it's okay since they're all alive, happy, and all. I'm content with that. <<less

I like the idea of them having to solve different end-of-world scenarios. You get to enjoy a bunch of scenarios in one book which is awesome (which are all fleshed out pretty nicely), plus the ability to transform into animals is super cute. The beginning is definitely the highlight of the story, up to the middle.

Towards the end the story does get a bit... anti many countries that aren't China or allies with China... but if putting some patriotism helps their danmei stay published, then I'm cool with it.

The MC... more>> and ML romance isn't a huge part of the story, but the parts that are there are indulgent and sweet. Two OP people being happy together.

Overall, a very good read and very much MTL-able. <<less
