I Am The Commander Of The Second Male Lead’s Knights

To meet once again.

Nina found herself reincarnated in the world of a novel she had read by chance.
Besides that, the place to where she was sold after losing her family was the house of Adrian, the Second Male Lead.

When he finally meets the heroine, you would think that he’s destined to walk a flowery path, but only for a very short time.

’You can’t just leave the second male lead lose out on all those sweet stuff!’

For Adrian, who is only 9 years old, his childhood is filled with thorns.

Now that it has come to this, Nina will twist the original story for Adrian.

Adrian’s voice was cold.

“Young Master?”
“Why did you do that?”
“Are you angry?”
“You’re asking if I’m angry?”

Nina flinched and straightened herself up.

It was dark and Nina couldn’t see his face well.

“Don’t talk like that. Like it’s nothing, like it’s no big deal to you.”

Perhaps she twisted the story a little too much.

To tell you the truth, the story is pretty entertaining; but what made me pick this up was the cover. I tried the hand position and it really does turn into a heart. Lol

This book is absolutely amazing. The MC is really a stubborn person but that’s why it makes the whole book great since she actually has a lot of... accidents (feel bad for doctor Cyril). Well even if she is reincarnated the plot is not really following the main plot of the book in her past life which makes this interesting.

ITS A SUMMARY. Not a novel. The pacing is fast... okay I can live with that. But it is more than that. The way it's written feels as if the author was just trying to summarise the story in their head.

It's so weird. I was waiting and waiting for the final starting of the story because I thought it was like a prolog. And explanation as to why we are here right now etc. And then the story would begin. But no. It's just the summary. Because of it there's... more>> no pacing, no tension nor any relief or happiness when good things happen because there's literally no build up AT ALL.

I think the story could be good but the way it's written it's HORRENDOUS.

So while the story has potential the MC does not. Well... That's not totally accurate. She's determined and strong and she handles herself instead of waiting for Prince Charming. That's a big plus. But. She has some talent, too big of a talent with no explanation as to how, why and what for. It's just slipped in there. She's strong but the training is mentioned in like one sentence? (Later in one chapter, but I can't elaborate it's a spoiler)

Other characters are rushed as well. No much explanation. They're just there. No real depth at all. I mean... Like I said A SUMMARY.

Basically the whole thing is not good. A complete waste of time. There's no point in reading this. Except maybe if you were planning to take the plot and ACTUALLY DEVELOP IT INTO A BOOK. <<less

This is just so adorable 😍 and I gotta say, I love the interaction between the two (Nina and Adrian). Chapter 5 is where it stopped but I already start to love it and hope it'll continue on.

Characters: 4.7/5 (The MC is amazing. I like her character and she matches well with the ML. I don't know how she didn't react to his dark powers and most people would atleast be uncomfortable. He literally got some guy get suck into oblivion. The nobility in the story are all typical and not the "bad kind" of typical. It's good, story-wise. The MC has a good head on her shoulders too.)

Story: 4.5/5 (I'm not sure about the story yet since only 5 chapters are available but the story is decent so far. It's cute and fluffy with a tinge of darkness to add something to it, ya know. And it's nice that the MC is a commoner and they met in their childhood. Can't wait to see how she became a commander.)

And that's what I'm gonna write about for now. Recommend it, definitely!

I hesitated a lot about whether I wanted to say anything, but as I progressed through the story I felt like I had to mention some things.

First, as to the complaints about the fast moving chapters, brief summaries, time skips, and poorly done first to third person perspectives: Those do eventually get fixed. The chapters slow down and become more in depth, the story feels more fluid and less rushed, the times skips get less frequent, and the translator gets a good handle on fixing perspective in their writing. A... more>> lot of the complaints about chapter pacing and time skips boils down to the fact that the very early chapters are catching the reader up to where the prologue starts. Things move quickly because it seems as if the writer has a goal to get to, so every chapter has to quickly move to bring us to that goal. It feels awkward when reading it however, and I think that's because the writer still wanted to stuff in a lot of detail, while feeling rushed to catch up to the prologue and where they wanted the main story to go. This comes with the territory of a webnovel, so take those criticisms with a grain of salt. I feel they're a bit unfair personally.

As for my key problems.... Well, I consider them really important, but others might not have as much of an issue with them as I do. I'll knock out the positives first though:

I love the cute and sweet interactions between the ML, and the MC. They're very affectionate, and every chapter about their interactions together is just a huge dollop of sweet cream on a sugary pie. It's a sweet interaction. They're a really good match, though I sometimes feel like the ML is a bit flat as a character. That's probably because of our MC, Nina though.

Next, Nina is a really interesting character. She's bright, cheerful fun, and energetic. But she's also quick to react, forceful, powerful (and not just after she becomes OP), and commanding too. Her character is the linchpin that brings everyone around her together. She pulls people up when they need that extra push, and puts them down when they get full of themselves. All while being a bit vulnerable herself.

Finally, the underlying story is actually fascinating, and as more gets revealed, the more it gets interesting. I love where it's heading.

But now for my key complaints. Nina's personality is amazing, and her character really adds to the interactions of the people around her. However, her behavior is... well, the best word to use would probably be flirtatious. While I'm not one to knock someone being a flirt, or enjoying themselves with physically intimacy, even with multiple partners, her character doesn't really do it in a likeable way. With regards to the ML, I don't find any fault with her behavior really, but... This should really have a harem tag. She crawls in to people's beds, holds their hands, strokes their cheeks, cuddles against them, sits in their laps, wraps her arms around as they interact, and presses her forehead to theirs while chatting. There's a lot of physical intimacy between our Female MC and nearly Every. Single. Male. Character. And quite a few of them are probably in love with her. If it were maybe a few dedicated men in her circle, I might be more comfortable with it, but.... Here's a brief list of men she's physically intimate with (beyond just simple hand-holding) :

The ML (in love with her)
The Knight Vice-commander (almost fatherly affection? It gets a little creepy and vague)
A prince (in love with her)
The knight of a royal (in love with her)
The original stories ML (in love with her)
A shadow informant (affectionate, but unclear)

Her behaviors are beyond the scope of what I'd expect, and it honestly made me uncomfortable sometimes. On top of that, some of the characters she becomes physically intimate with aren't even key people in the story. If it were a harem, then even by those standards it would be all over the place with love interests. It's beyond awkward, and it honestly upsets me every time I read a new chapter with a new man that she's snuggling up to just like she does with the ML. I'm already not a fan of harems, but this one... it's uncomfortable, and it puts a huge wet blanket on any scene between the FMC and the ML being affectionate because I keep thinking about the fact that she was literally just snuggled in the bed of another man before meeting the ML. I'm fine with stories about polyamory, but this didn't feel like that kind of story, and it still doesn't after 120+ chapters. But the MC acts... well, like the story is going to be one. And that's not what I got from the description. It keeps getting more uncomfortable as the story progresses. Every time a new male character is introduced, I'm just waiting for Nina to start cuddling them. It's become ridiculous and off-putting at this point. <<less

The actual story and characters aren’t bad (as far as I can tell because everything is pretty shallow) the problem is the writing. I thought at first that it was written like that because it was supposed to be a quick prologue before the story started but then it stayed that way... not great tbh. It really does feel like the book is being summarized to you and everything is super fast. Plus it switches between third and first person perspective and it’s jarring. It’ll even happen mid sentence. For... more>> example

As I tasted the feeling of slowly falling down inside a glacier, Nina dreamed of a scene.

That’s from the first chapter and is a sentence that stood out to me as being particularly bad. <<less

Well you know... I expected it like some character development story or spirit-related story-which I love. But no. There's no plot. Just like a report. I waited for the story to begin while hoping it was a flashback of memories she had. But yeah...

Try reading it. You'll know what I mean.

Some part of me just wants to drop a sentence like "1 for the cover, another 2 stars for the overly-long summary lmao." and disappear. However, Imma show that human's gift of intelligence is superior to our inherited beast nature and..! Last a few senteces or more ig.

Before this struggle ends in humanitys' crushing defeat let's begin.

MC isn't a character but a good idea for one nevertheless. She's strong willed, cheerful, heads no rules and follows her heart. At least that's what I get from this summary like story.

Tho I... more>> still don't get why she is so talented that she could *spoilerish stuff* like nothing. She even get a free trial version of "swordmanship course", tf. (Those who read till sun/winter thing pls help me explain this phenomenon *winks furiously*)

ML is meh. Too generic, if you ask me. Angelic face, gentelman, no one saw him do *insert any generic sh*t like smiling* unless he's with the MC, wants to be strong to protect his loved ones yada yada. Boring.

Now into the main topic: the writing.

It's actually disastrously bad for the wack while I'm masterfully constructing this masterpiece 'cause I'm begging to feel like a Rap God-

Not me listening to Eminem while I'm writing this shit. Jesus.

You probably get the point.

The female protag is really outspoken and bright. So dazzling that any dark mood gets brightened up. So straightforward that there will be no needless misunderstandings like angst romance novels where the female protag acts mute while the male lead acts deaf.

She's important as a character since the beginning because she's like the glue to help everyone's relationship get closer, she's like the anti-stress pet area at the company for stressed fluff-deficient employees to fluff fluffy cats or dogs in order to relax and become more efficient in their work... more>> as well. <<less

Female Main Character is a likeable person. The first time I read the story I couldn't help but really like her artwork. She grows up as a maid for male character and ends up his knight then knight commander as an adult. Her skill set is fighting monsters people and maid stuff plus spirit magic. She has future knowledge so in the later parts of the story it comes in big.

She does have her flaws but they are hidden by the fact she has her role as commander.... more>> She can't be a merchant and she can't micro manage everything but luckily there are others to fill the gap.

The romance is centered around familial love rather than the usual burning passion. Its slow romance and the story builds up their relationship from their time as children. <<less

I... love it. It's one of novel that excites you and feel fresh (i was bored after lot of cliche novels these days). The FL and ML is totally likable. FL enjoy having her fisheries but know when to draw the line and priotitize ML. She is not s*upid and able to recognize other's feeling quickly (no dense protagonist, hurraaay!! 🥹) and use it to her advantage in a good way. ML is super super green flag. Both are strong and sensible, ugh I really love this kind of setting... more>> when both are equals.

I always hate harem novels or one that FL get all the love but I kind of like this one. FL is quirky but still sensible and smart, so her character is somewhat forgivable lol.

Anyway, I enjoy this. I feel like it's been a long time since I rate a novel as 5 stars. <<less

This story is bittersweet. Bitter because the main characters are harassed and abused as children. Sweet because of the interactions between them. The story is good and proceeds quickly. Also, the translation makes it a good read.

I don't know why while reading the FL appeared like "Earwig" from "Earwig and the Witch".

For some reason her attitude is similar with that little girl. Never discouraged in any circumstances 😅

Even though the story pacing is fast at first for a reader like me who have been reading Isekai novels too much, that pacing is much welcomed. Coz most of the Isekai stories are kindda similar at the beginning and it become so boring to read similar things so many times. Fast forwarding is much better for me. 😅

Caring side characters saved this story. The first 200 chapters were nice but after that, it gets a little dry. The story starts with the past and it doesn't drags that out. I'm glad because it's very rare for these novels. Couple chapters in you're already in their current timeline and the story flow slows down to a normal pace.

To be honest, I couldn't connect to the characters for 20 chapters but this story itself is so long that I was sure if I kept reading I was going to... more>> have fun. And have fun I did. If you searching for a clear romance, this is not for you. Our ML doesn't like to push his Nina at all. But he's ready to do (or don't) anything to keep her happy.

Nevermind the ML, all the side characters are very loveable. Sure FL is super OP but everyone is around her is super caring and afraid that she'll get hurt even a little bit.

Especially the OGML wasn't someone I expected personality-wise. He was freshly new to me. He isn't the gentlemanly type at all. I like it. He's quite faulty and he's just managing his behavior barely.

As for the side characters Benzel was my favorite. I expected him to be a villain but he turned out to be SO CUTE!

3, 5 stars just because of the extreme slowness in romance and the rushed ending. Well overall was good but I want ML to actively push FL more.

That's it. Sorry for this mess of a review. I'm tired. <<less

The story... it's great so far a little clumsy around the edges but the storyline is great.

I have one question tho who's the person in the cover? Nina, our fl, has brown hair... but the girls wearing a knight's uniform! And lets not forget the ribbons that are died red!.... is this foreshadowing?🧐🧐
