Lin Qingyin took out a tortoiseshell: Teacher, can I use divination to get the answer?

Lin Qingyin, the master of fortune-telling, didn’t succeed in the Thunder Tribulation when she tried to ascend. When she woke up again, she became a high school student. It's a fun read and I had a good time while reading it.

The arcs were well written and kept me at the edge of my seat, and the MC is very likeable.

There's minimal romance in this story, and while I liked the ML, I didn't like him towards the end of the story. The romance aspect itself felt too rushed and (I'm sorry but) half-assed that I did not enjoy.

The ending was weird too, it came out of nowhere and to be honest adds nothing to the story in my... more>> opinion. <<less

A light hearted and funny novel

Follow FMC as she goes around solving solving supernatural problems with her skills whiles struggling to finish her school homeworks.

Theres very little 'court death' cliche in this novel.

P.S : Do note that while I wrote lighthearted, this novel has a lot of supernatural cases which some reader may not be comfortable with.

Interesting stories related to fortune telling.

I admire the main character's cute but clever personality and skills in making money. Especially envious of how she can see whether a person is good or bad in character. So useful, ah.

The romance isn't until the very end but the rest of the novel's amusing and interesting plot make up for it.

A nice read to satisfy one's curosity.

You know the kind of novels where there are too many side characters, you stop remembering their names, and skip to MC dialogues?

Or the kind where it dedicates whole chapters to focus on said characters, while you only want to see MC in action?

Or the kind where MC performs her talent (service) but you have to wait for 10-20 chapters to see the result, and praises?

... more>> Or The kind where the MC has an awesome talent, but so many restrictions to use it, you start to feel annoyed?

Or when the MC is a douche who keeps tormenting everyone who asks for a favour to face slap them and make them pay all their assets for the said favour?

Or when the MC only helps (performs skill) for 1-2 people in 10, 000 chapters?

Or the type that dedicates whole chapters for face slapping, and covert verbal insults that aren't really all that insulting?

THIS STORY IS NONE OF THE ABOVE

The MC is very powerful, she transmigrated into the body of a girl after she failed her cultivation tribulation. She can read people's fortunes and doesn't get tired of it.

She loves doing it more than studying and demonstrates her talent very well.

The story focuses on her and doesn't switch to other side characters (Although there are likable and memorable side characters. They do not have full chapters dedicated to them as in other novels)

All disbelievers turn to her fans. There is instant satisfaction as the divinations are checked on the spot (No waiting for 10-20 chapters) . And everyone is full of praise and appreciation.

There are lots of funny situations. Her character isn't cold and isn't too emotional. Just right.

There is no romance as of yet. And despite being a romance fanatic. I couldn't care less. This novel is just pure fun. <<less

Recommended novel if you want to search for light reading.

The plot, I think, is focused to fortune telling and how MC helped her clients from some crisis (or to have not a regret in life). As MC in previous life is a cultivator, she doesn't really know about emotion. In this life, MC is learned to become human. And I like how MC only help people with good souls and (kinda of course not really ?) deliver some retribution with evils people.

If you're looking for romance, sorry this is not... more>> for you as almost all of chapters is not about romance, and MC love life is just lightly touched at near the end of story (more to the extra chapters) with some of their background revealed to them (MC and her significant other). <<less

Read this after "Transmigrated into the cannon fodder's daughter" and although I enjoyed that, this was like a way more comedic and gratifying novel. The main point of this novel that made me like it so much is just the humor. Idk if it'd be everyone's cup of tea but it is mine. It's small things like the teacher at first might've been amazed by her fortune telling, but later he's like how do I stop her from cheating on multiple choice tests by guessing lmao. It's just small interactions... more>> like that and the general way the characters are written where it just feels amusing and fun to read. There's no major revenge focus btw which is what TICFD was primarily focusing on.

It's very quick dopamine because the fortune telling stuff is immediately established as in people almost instantly start believing her as she

Spoiler

accurately diagnoses a police man in the park the first day she sets up her stall

[collapse]

It makes the whole thing move faster and smoother than waiting dozens of chapters for her to prove herself. It's also kind of a fun and gratifying face slap cuz most of the time someone will be like "how can she be a metaphysical master?" And then they immediately have to eat their words within a chapter or two.

All the cases and stuff with the fortune telling are fairly light or at least mostly because it's usually not her getting revenge or anything. She treats the 'clients' like strangers and that makes it an easier read. Plus there really wasn't much complexity there that kept you guessing or anything.

I loved that there wasn't much family drama though the mc's dad's family is a bit awful, she's so OP that she resolved it in a few chapters max. The parents really love her and are willing to let her do whatever she wants but still want her to study lmao. She's so tired of doing homework lol.

The ML is:

Spoiler

the kid from the Jiang family I believe his name was. It's basically the third case she really handles where this family's close 'friend' puts a curse on them and she resolves it after meeting him in the park.

He's also one from the cultivation world or whatever that followed her because he loved her I think? Wasn't very clear in the mtl

[collapse]

The romance isn't really prominent at all. It takes a while before there's even a hint that ML likes her and even longer for MC to decide to be with him and it basically ends by that point.

The ending is super abrupt and a little unsatisfying. They barely get together when the story ends and maybe because of mtl, it was a bit hard to understand. Besides that though, I found this a pretty entertaining and funny novel. I don't recommend mtl much for this one unless you're used to it. <<less

The novel has a good plot. It is very funny with a little romance. I am bit disappointed with how the author wrote the romance. Just because

they love each other when they were holy/sacred beasts in their past life

it is destined that they will be together. I feel it is a bit of a patch up way of explaining why they should be together. MC went form low EQ to suddenly liking the ML.

Anyway, all in all, this novel is worth reading.

It is a very funny and interesting to read about a girl who transmigrated after fail in her thunder tribulation to the modern world with same situation with her.

The disappointing things is there is no romance for the MC.

I read and read and read and realize after checking novelupdates that there is no romance tag. T_T.

That is why I can't find the male lead even after more than half-complete reading it.

Hmmm 43 chapters has never quite felt so long before. There’s nothing bad about this but there’s also not much good to it either - no risk taken and no gains. So far a super smooth mindless journey with no long-standing villainous characters to fixate on, no vinegar to drink from any existing romance plot, and little to invest in with the bland, OP main character. Perhaps the story could have successfully carried on as it has if each case the MC took on was more well developed and intricate... more>> so it could be a supernatural mystery type but alas she fixes it with little effort and receives lots of money in turn.

I recommend this if you’re not ready to read anything with real emotion or hardship or growth. <<less

MTL 4☆ easy to read

Simple but very enjoyable. Alot of funny antics. Not much nonsense. But just straightforward doing fortune telling, feng shui, formation arry etc. Romance is like 5% at the very end.

Spoiler

MC AND ML'S identity- Reincarnations of a phoenix (MC) and a blue dragon (ML).

Also, tho there was so little romance. They were engaged at the end.

The circumstantial comedy in this is gold. It had my snickering and snorting almost every other chapter. Seriously, this is GOLD!

The ending feels rushed, it could have stretched out for chapters on end but it also feels fairly satisfying with the revelations the author threw in. Dang it all.

This is my first review on the website. I liked the novel that much, even though I needed to MTL after the latest translated chapter 11. It was surprisingly fairly decent to MTL due to the author's writing style.

The novel started out slow and followed the general pattern of the MC meeting people who needed problems solved and her being the best solution. The frequency and degree of severeness changes based on the MC's available time around schooling/money matters. The plot armor is noticeable here, but it isn't that severe.... more>> After all, the MC is an old monster, even if she is low on the EQ. She has IQ and adapts fairly well.

It's worth the read. I plan on coming back when it's fully translated and reading it again. It's short enough that I hope the translator doesn't drop it, especially since it's being done quite well. <<less

I read it up to Ch 12 out of 100 translated (143 total). It's nice and describes a lot of Chinese folk beliefs and practices about divination, fortune telling, changing one's luck, spriritual cultivation, etc. Well written and well translated, quiet, not terribly exciting nor poignant.

Maybe it's because the FL is so old and experienced and has no challenges or quests, I do not know, but it lacks the fresness of youth and adventure, the spirit of novelty and discovery, of building mastery, etc. Instead, it feels like description of... more>> very down to earth Chinese city dwellers life, their slice of very mundane life and the daily grind of a Chinesee fortune teller who works a lot to make a little and, being a thousand years old monster, a very high level professional in her domain, has to endure totally unnecessary high school and college years in this life. Even the romance is very mundane, everybody's love life in this novel is very ordinary and unremarkable.

The good thing is that the ML,

Entertaining and funny. MC is OP but the novel isn't boring because of that.

Only thing is the translations have grammar issues every once in a while and use the wrong tenses or call the MC a he and use incorrect pronouns, which is distracting but I notice it like once every few chapters so it's still readable. The chapters being split in so many parts is annoying but the TL's site runs on ads so I think that's to maximize it.

edit once completed-prev review was at ch 90:

I got a... more>> little bored but still finished it

Also there was an uncomfortable sentence from the author-there was a plot point where MC can't read non-chinese people's fortunes from their face structure? So she gets famous overseas but avoids them? Which idk but then the author writes
Spoiler

The corner of Lin Qingyin's lips couldn't help but twitch when she saw one client with a black complexion. Fortunately, this person wanted fortune-telling. If this person ask something else, she was powerless. After all, except for the white in this person's eyes, anywhere else was black.

[collapse]

Don't want to straight up call the author racist but idk that rubbed me the wrong way. She's annoyed by the Americans but the author specifically notes her grimacing when she sees a black person - in an attempt to be funny or something? What was the author's point in writing that? <<less

I really love this novel. The plot is superb, fast paced with no fillers. I also love the development character, the FL have her weaknesses and shortcomings, not a mary sue at all. The dialog is funny, witty and fun. I also love how they solves the cases. It's fun and light but excellent!

It's unfortunate because this novel is honestly super exciting to read. It has just the right amount of opness with a lovely community of people around the MC.

The situations she encounters are all interesting and fun.

Sadly, the romance is imo (I read the mtl however) lackluster and corny. I never shipped them so it just didn't feel natural to me. The feelings felt like an afterthought - even if that was not the case, the execution made it seem that way (again mtl however). Personally, the couple is not my... more>> cup of tea. To be fair, there is a reason why this novel DOESNT HAVE A ROMANCE TAG lol. Still, this novel is so fun - I recommend you to read it. <<less

I originally gave it 5 stars, but the story kinda went down hill after high school.

At the start the chapters may seems rushed and not explaining things clearly, but once the basis/foundation is made the story goes pretty well. Each arc is very short so it doesn't make us read 30 or so chapters just for one fortune telling, and we see the results very fast. However, sometime it is a bit too fast. Like, ppl just accept the situation, doesn't even blink an eye at how things unfolded which... more>> is a bit unrealistic.

After the MC went to college, things unfolded even quicker. The author seems to just slap infos in our face and leave, with no further explanation or description.

I also feel so bad for Jiang Wei. He is essentially a s*ave to MC, doing her homework and attending to her every needs. And it's even worse when the MC doesn't even treat him kindly, plus being mad at him for numerous things (like being luckier). Like most manwha with OP FL, he is basically there to hang on her thigh (?) and is kinda nothing without her.

I also don't like how ppl do easily worship MC. They're basically like a cult, and have no shame in trying to baby her when she is literally older than them all combined and more powerful.

Also, it make me feel so uncomfortable with how she treat English and foreigners. All her exam has either been memorized words by words or guessed by divination, so she is essentially incapable of doing anything on her own. She cheats, by asking others to write texts in her place and calculating the answers. She was also racist kinda NGL with foreigners, saying that she can't read their fortune or speak their language (English). I thought that she was super OP and can read everyone, but I guess not. I think the author just wanted her to be OP, and make her famous overseas but without like making her do anything actually to make herself famous (?) kinda.

Otherwise, it's a good and light hearted read (with some funny part in between) at the start, but it became boring after a while (around college IG) <<less

It was a very fun read. Absolutely love the MC. Every arc was interesting. There wasn't any overly annoying villains. Any trouble that came her way, the FL was sure to take care of it promptly which I really liked. There was only a few things I wasn't satisfied with. Like how rushed the romance felt. I couldn't feel the chemistry between the couple. Also the ending was really abrupt in my opinion.

Still haven't read the fanwai so if anyone can tell me where to read it, that will be... more>> nice. <<less

MC waves around a bunch of random divination accessories and assigns divination homework to her disciples, but she doesn't actually do any real divination herself. (Presumably because the author either doesn't know how it's done or isn't interested.) She just knows the answer after looking at or touching things, and she 'uses' her tools by waving them around and throwing them. That's like roasting a hot dog by throwing it directly into an unlit firepit and relying on your awesome cooking skill and the fact that all the tools are... more>> present to make it come out right. No, you just get a cold ashy dog. I guess the author could just drop all the divination set-dressing and call her a psychic. But even the psychic activity is pretty vaguely described and boringly straightforward. Everything happens exactly as the MC intends it to, no surprises or deviations (except the ML, who is special!)

This makes everything she does colourless and also super repetitive. The ML is also a cardboard cut-out I forget about every time he's off-page, despite being the only person who has the slightest impact on the MC's actions or emotions. None of this is exactly rare in a webnovel, and there are certainly much worse examples. At least this MC is generally benevolent and willing to help. I enjoyed it for a while. <<less

I enjoyed this novel till MC high school arc.

Later her college arc is boring because there is no fatty Wang and park's aunts and uncles.

MC is cute but not an idiot. Her relationship with her parents especially with her mom is funny too.

... more>> On romance I never thought him to be ML despite him to be always there as fatty Wang has more pen time than him

I hoped more romance at the end maybe their wedding and honeymoon and aunt and uncles reaction.

But I do enjoy no romance part at start as most novels forget actual story but focus on romance with MC dependent on ml. But here MC never needed ml. <<less

Hilarious story. It's good but I believe in Science not Superstition so 4/5.

Basically I took 1 point off for how heavily divination and the like are pushed. If you treat it like a modern fantasy (for example Harry Potter) and don't take it's lessons into real life it's a good read.
