The prestigious He family was reunited with their long-lost heir. Everybody was looking forward to the Revenge of the Real Daughter or some cliché stories prestigious family drama. Alas, the long-lost Chu Qianli was only interested in playing cards, dice, and spreading superstitions (?).

Chu Qianli transmigrated into a little white flower in a novel with a strong female lead. She had no interest in meddling in the fight over gains in a wealthy family or the romance between the male and female leads. All she wanted to do was focus on her astrology and her pursuit in Marxism.

Original Male Lead: “Aren’t you going to fight over the family fortune with me?”

Chu Qianli: “No way. You do the work; I take the dividends. I am a dog if I ever set foot in the company.”

The entire world knew that the surname of the daughter of the He family was not He. Her specialty was Tarot cards, numerology, seeing into the future, and she was never wrong!

“Lao He, I need your daughter’s help!”

“I’m so sorry. She just started university and is not home.”

“……Oh? What is she majoring in?”

“Marxist Philosophy.”

“? ? ?”

Chu Qianli: I might be a guru in numerology but I am a firm believer in Marxism. I am not a fortune teller.”

This book is not "just another transmigration story" with the switched at birth trope. There's no sad, sad, sad beginning. The MC is not running away trying to avoid the original male lead or villain, or have any romantic relationships with them. The brother, that she was swapped with, is just a "victim" in the switch at birth trope and later on be exploited by the MC to leech money off of him. MC has good relationship with her birth parents. Brother also has good relationship with his adoptive parents... more>> and has mixed feelings towards our MC.

The beginning of the book consists of light-hearted astrology stories at school, followed by a few "real-life" scenario arcs. Toward the last 30% of the book, there will be Indiana Jones' type of thriller/action/adventure/sci fi arc. (Don't even ask) The extras are back to fluffiness between MC and ML.

The MC is a self-proclaimed Marxism. She resented being referred to as a "fortuneteller" as she does not promote superstition. (Apparently, a no-no in China.) She refers to herself as an astrologist. The literal title of the book was Scientific Astrology, Materialistic Numerology*. MC claims that astrology is a very scientific discipline. Neither this translator nor the author claim that "fortunetelling/astrology" is real or believable, but this book does dive into different fortunetelling methods, just enough for the story to be interesting. This translator was not aware that there are so many different schools of thoughts prior to reading this book.

*What you need to know:

    • This translator did not study Marxism so she is not familiar with it. Will do my best to translate it as literally as possible. Nor do I know anything about astrology, etc. For that matter. :)
    • "Materialism" here is not the definition as we understand it in normal life. It is its philosophical definition:- the doctrine that nothing exists except matter and its movements and modifications.
    • Numerology, evidently, has nothing to do with mathematics. It is the pseudoscientific belief in the divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events. It is also the study of the numerical value of the letters in words, names, and ideas. It is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and similar to divinatory arts.
    • Don't feel bad if you didn't know any of those. I didn't know any of them before this book either. :)
    • If you have read this far, I hope you will continue reading and enjoy this book.

Can't win every time and while this is a great translation the underlying novel leaves a lot to be desired.

The novel shoots for comedy and tries to play the two big themes (switch at birth, and uncanny astrology) for laughs and mostly fails. It's really hard to portray a money grubbing character who knows what the future will be and would literally be able to make whatever amount of money she wanted at any time. Her astrology reads like an a$$ pull. I know nothing about astrology but, I know... more>> a lot about bad plot devices and this is a stinker.

The switched at birth theme is handled badly as well. The trying to twist it to comedy is not successful at all. An 18 year old girl acting like she is five before a woman she has never met before, to beg for money, is a bit off to say the least but it isn't funny at all.

The romance is mostly uninteresting. I don't want to go into spoiler territory so lets just say it's smooth and bland.

The shame is that there are so many ways this could be done well. You have an 18 year old reuniting with their family, if you can't find awkward in that there is no hope. The astrology could have been toned down and played for laughs by having it screw up spectacularly. Just anything to mix things up and bring the chaos. <<less

It's a split translation, the posted chapters on NU were not the original counted chapters.

One original chapter could be translated into 3 chapters by the translator. So far, the translated 84 chapters were only counted around 25 (ish) of the original novel.

So if you felt that the translated chapters were very short or the story were kinda slow even though the novel already on chapter 84 and should be finished in 125 chapters, now you know the reason.

If your saw this review, could the translator wrote down the real chapter... more>> count on NU, please?

I believed that this was not a burdensome request because there were some people like me who just wanted to read novels which already almost finished being translated.

Like this one, looking at the posted chapters on NU it seemed like translator almost finished translating the whole novel, but when reading them, it was not even one third of the novel was translated *sigh*...

MTL up to chapter 28, readability 80%. <<less

Really like this so far! We haven't gotten to know the characters well yet but they're already very distinct and fun to read about, and I love this novel's deconstruction of the domineering CEO tropes and the succession battle tropes. Very promising and I can't wait to hear what happens next~

Spoiler

i am just kind of amazed at how accurate her perspective on astrology is as someone who studies astrology as well. Also, considering china has its own astrology and charts, I find it fascinating to see how popular western (or vedic depending on which system she is using which isnt said) astrology has gotten even in China, since I assume this author has an interest in it over chinese astrology/zodiac/bazi charts as she wrote about astrology well in this book, esp loving how she addressed compatibility in astrology in ch. 11 in the trans.

i will note one thing thats farfetched is the level of exactness in her horoscope predictions. There are astrologers that good at reading people's transits but shes just does it automatically so quickly lol. Unless shes really that good haha. Its fine all in. Good fun for the novel.

omg lul did she just imply she doesn't use software to calculate star placements / astro charts?? Lmao I dont know anyone who does that. But wow if so.

personally I dont think astrology should be argued to be a science like the MC does. I do agree the influence of space on our bodies is unknown so astrology should have a place in acceptance but I believe placing it in the box category of science is detremental. Mostly bc I dont think astrologers should have to deal w the smartassery from doubtful scientists. Just leave them alone and maybe they'll leave us alone (sadly not)

ok my theory is that she practices vedic bc she paints the south node so tragically. Lmao. Also I think its slight bs the author is using marxism to combat her south node. Just focus on her north node instead. I doubt her north node told her marxism but maybe and ok its fiction

ok I want yall to know that although she is referencing to legitimate astrology perspective at times, that rolling a dice is not astrology lol. Its predicting based on astrology ssymbolism. Not astrological prediction. There is a subset of astrology either called financial astrology or economy astrology or something, where astrologists specialize in reading the market through reading current planetary transits and charts. Not dice. Lmao. Shes just being a psychic then, not an astrologer.

omg this is getting hard for me to read as I go on. Ahhh

ok I have to drop this now. I dont care if you use psychic abilities to help read your astrological charts. But you cannot say an apple is an apple when its an apple and a banana. Shes basically a psychic using astrological themes. Not really an astrologist bc she lost me when she threw dice to LOOK UP THE TRANSITS. Theres a whole subset of astrology to look up market trends and you tell me throwing dice to help point at the transits which are saying their own thing already is supposed to be ASTROLOGY? This is too offensive lol. Predictive astrology at its best isnt even guaranteed.

[collapse]

okok its fiction, cut it some slack. No lol if you want to be a psychic using some astrology its fine but dont actually say youre all astrology when youre not. It gives more misleading ideas to astrology which already has so many misinformation and misunderstandings. Esp bc this book likes to sprinkle some truths about astrology from real astrology books, it can be misinterpeted that all the astrology info written here is true. /rant lol <<less

Really funny and entertaining story with very good translation services by the hardworking TL fringe. It's one of those goofy stories which manage to stay multi dimensional in their portrayal of characters which are shown as just a cliche in other Chinese webnovels.

Tbh I really wanted to like this story more and the beginning half was really good but about halfway through it gets kind of boring which is why I'm giving it 4/5.

I like the MC and the ML. Both have personalities that make them distinctive from usual leads in this type of novel. At first glance the MC just seems hilariously eccentric and narcissistic about her wildly powerful astrological abilities but as the story unfolds you realize that... more>>
Spoiler

she's only putting on this larger than life character to hide the the anxieties she feels inside regarding her short-lived destiny. Related to this, I think the author is really good at foreshadowing because the revelations don't feel too abrupt or too obvious. The author thoughtfully hints at what's to come in small details so you never think "wtf did that come from???" or "yeah wbk anyways". Like with the MC the author often subtly hints that she knows more than she lets on but even so you're still startled when she fully reveals what she's already knows because of her divinations. I'm explaining it poorly but basically the author wrote a really solid and enigmatic MC.

[collapse]

The ML is really different from the usual leads because he's not cold, overbearing, popular, dangerous and/or super smart (that archetype is fulfilled by the MC's "brother"). Instead, he starts off as a
Spoiler

soft-tempered bigger guy who makes doll clothes. The MC and him are friends first and their relationship develops super slowly but it's easy to see why both are attracted to one another because their dynamic works really well. The ML is sweet patient and loyal but for various reasons, not at all ambitious and afraid of being noticeable. It's only because he meets the MC that he learns that you can't go through life by always playing it safe and steady. What I thought was interesting was that even though he doesn't believe in astrology, because he values the MC, he tries to understand her and the things she believes in. I like that he essentially agrees to disagree with the MC on divination and that his worldviews don't magically change because of love. On the other hand, from him the MC becomes more grounded. She doesn't let divinations control all aspects of her life.

[collapse]

Where I thought the story got boring was when the focus shifted from school to their activities outside. I felt like the pacing of their lives outside was really slow and the characters they met weren't as interesting (maybe because they felt more flat). I thought the original ML and FL both had really funny interactions with the MC and I wished we got more of that later in the story. I think I would've like this story more if the author stuck to how their group of three continued to help their online clients solve their problems with astrology. I get why the author couldn't do this for the larger plot but still, I think the story was best when it focused on the shenanigans of high school kids (cause stereotypical greedy adults suck lol). <<less

I won't be rating, since I was not a big fan of the beginning, so returning and continuing reading is unknown.

The main reason is that unlike others I didn't click with such FL, her appearance, her habits, how she behaves. She sounds like she lived under a rock. Also you don't need to be super intelligent, but going outright for the s*upid is too much. But the astrology aspect and the way she talks fortunes is... not only questionable but outright weird. In metaphysics we always hear about the balance,... more>> for example, if you want to see the future, then you must pay a certain price. Like in fortune-telling stories the money often are used for the sake of bearing the burden, but to "wash" out these money they donate most of it for a good cause, for merit. Here to balance the astrology aspect, the FL balances it with.. Marxism? Sorry I've been reading MTL version, so I might have a miss. But anyway the concept is like balancing something unrealistic with materialistic, for example.

Also.. the money-grabbing. Ahem, I remember a better set story than this, it also had a money-loving character as FL (真千金是真大佬 by 宝典), but only because her master was always living a poor life (for a reason) and she was surprised that city can bring you prosperity. It's not illogical for a character who never saw a big city to be fascinated by it for a bit before adapting, but you could still feel that her money-loving at that time was only because she was afraid of poverty (she also had parents and the switching situation, but she saw a ghost in the house and came along just to severe the last relationship with her relatives, since it'd hinder her cultivation). You'd be surprised to know that all her money mainly were sent to the master ahahaha Ah, that story is quite interesting. Ooh, I'm quite off-topic, but talking about money-grabbing, it wasn't as plain as this.. It just made me feel weird how she started - give me money. Well, they should have, but the way she asked...

The other aspect that pushed me off was the switched at birth brother. Who acted like a good person. Although he was a victim, but it's still vicious to think like he thinks. And I absolutely dislike when people mention "losing face" so much. She effing only came back, what does she know, you should protect her or be as vile as you are and don't jump around expecting her to be a perfect lady, so not to lose face of your family. Such an a$$.

Anyway, not my thing, not my type of beginning. Maybe because I've recently finished reading 我在人间直播算命[玄学] (Live-broadcasting fortune-telling or smth like that), which was quite fun and unusual among the live-broadcasting of metaphysics trope. It's an example where the FL is actually inheriting a temple and wants to revive it, the best idea is to live-broadcast. She's not disconnected from the world, even if she always looking like she's detached from it, she lived a usual life of going to school and graduating from university, but then she wanted to bring life to her temple. The story is very light-hearted and lacks tense moments despite having great foes awaiting. And it's fun to see how they solve the trouble :) I'd say it's hysterical. Although author also had their share of debate about astrology in the comments, but the story itself sounded organic for thos who have no deep knowledge. <<less

It's not exactly bad but while MC is not tr*sh she is pretty much unlikeable for me. So I don't care what happens with her - and hence dropped it. There is not a single positive quality about MC besides "not a**hole" and that's just not enough of positive quality to count.

So far its good.

MC has a likeable character and the plot which somewhat could be found in a face slapping scenario has a different kind of approach and make it as a mellow love tending novel..

Its relaxing to read especially the MC family stance about their newly found daughter.

All characters has different interisting personality they are not annoying instead they are very lovable.

My favorite character besides the MC is MC Teacher... 😆

Anyways I'll wait and read it again next time after the completed translated version updated.

I'm kind just stalled somewhere near the end of the novel as it got really slow. I'll probably go back to it. I like the MC's personality a lot, though many of the school/family interactions require a bunch of suspension of disbelief. ML lacking but he isn't a straight male cancer or anything, he's kinda sweet. The astrology part is the more enjoyable part of the novel, despite what the one astrologist reviewer said. I know very little but it doesn't matter, it's all fun

The romance is a slow developing burn and it tackles life & death topics well. I like how it handles certain plot points and enjoyed how straightforward the MC was in their handling of most things. There is no hypocrisy in the story from the main couple -- both live sincerely and are their designs are flushed all throughout.

Really enjoyed it. Will always recommend!

I have a big soft spot for crazy Chinese novels like these. We are pretty early on right now, but the story is full of silly and well-translated banter, and the setups for the characters are already setting up some fun potential (and done well, in my opinion). Definitely one to keep an eye on.

I'm putting up a 4 since I'm still seeing the introductory part. This is a fun read tho. You get to see the trope where a smart, serious, bit cold guy gets deterred by a carefree, silly FL PLUS he's not the ml! So their comedic banter would probably continue HAHA. THE ML IS A CUTE SQUISHY MUSHY SOFT BOI THAT WE MUST PROTECT so yep Imma continue reading it.

Plot wise, I'm still not sure where it's headed to but I'm sure it would be fun so I'm on a... more>> lookout. <<less

I've only read until chapter 13, but for a modern day transmigration with the real child fake child trope, this novel is quite a gem. It's unique enough that it's different from other stories, but has just enough tropes that it's fun to read as a junk food transmigration story.

It has a comedic tone, and each event happens lightheartedly, but still moves the plot forward. I really like it, and I'm looking forward to reading future chapters!
