Warning! Spoilers ahead! I wasn't quite sure what to tag as a spoiler and what not to as a lot of it isn't related to the plot but instead the worlds mechanics, as well as addressing things other people have said in their reviews not marked with spoilers. With that said, here's my review and addressing of other reviews:

———

Honestly, I absolutely love this series and the way it twist the whole monster/gate genre in a new direction, and so I'd like to share my thoughts on both it and what... more>> I've seen some other reviews say. Most notably about his OP ability, "Absolute Dweller."

I've seen a lot of other people say that our protagonist ability makes him functionally invulnerable and that they dislike it because of that. I personally believe they're missing the point of the protagonist place as a character; he's not a combatant, and hardly even a supporter. He's a sanctuary for people, an immobile fortress made to be safe for himself and others that he can't even leave. The actual combatants are the characters he picks up and raises to be strong, and those are the ones we're meant to feel tension for; and we do, quite often, as they get into deadly battles.

I've also seen mentions of the main characters worship, and it being creepy. While I can't exactly attest for the supposed creepy feelings those people felt when seeing the worship, I'd like to say that from a logical standpoint, the worship makes sense; our main character is functionally a system, the kind that bestows stats, superpowers and safety upon other people, something the world doesn't do on its own (most of the time), all of which are rightfully considered pure miracles by the people around him. It's the same way we readers, as well as characters, see the systems granting skills and stats onto characters in other novels as omnipotent, able to grant anything. And though it's called worship, it's not as if they're bowing down to him or anything. In fact, most are afraid of him or are simply grateful they get to live inside his barrier and use his supplies, as they'd have died otherwise.

I've also seen mention of the main character being, well, an a**hole. He's not. Im going to point out Chicken_person's review directly here and point out some key reasons for the protagonist actions that they seemed to conveniently forget to mention;

1. The ten apartment buildings the protagonist covers are, for the most part, dilapidated and dysfunctional. This is mentioned multiple times and the protagonist even got a function to restore those buildings for most of the money he's currently in possession of. That's why everyone's so cramped together, there genuinely isn't enough space, and if you'd been paying attention you'd have read that.

2. Food and water isn't free, nor is power, even for the protagonist. His ability takes money and uses it to "buy" the materials from his shop or directly bills him for using resources like electricity; the only way he earns money is from monster corpses at the moment, meaning if his currently built up society wants to run, he needs people to fight monsters. That means having them do jobs, which he does supply and give out materials for, to earn the resources they want to use. You also forget to mention how at the start he WAS giving sh*t out for free, but no longer had the capability to do so with the increasing numbers.

3. Finally, no one actually heralds him as a Saint. In fact, several people point out flaws with his current system and ask him to rectify it; there's even a damn riot of people at one point demanding better treatment. He may have a following similar to a "cults" in some cases, but there's also a vast majority of the time you're neglecting where he's not treated like that. In fact, as I said earlier, a lot of the reason he's treated like "Jesus Christ" is because he's scary as shit; he summons things from seemingly nowhere, can grant superpowers to people, can expel someone to the outside world in an instant and has a literal dominating aura around him. As a normal person I also wouldn't wanna talk back to this dude. How you could ignore all of this and say the story is breaking your immersion is genuinely beyond me.

With that all said, I'll leave my review here for now; there's not much more to talk about anyways, unfortunately, as NovelSama, the translators site, has been gone for over a month now with no news of it coming back. It seems we'll have to wait for a new translator, hopefully just as good, to pick this one up. <<less

The world’s gone to sh*t and the MC is stuck in his room due to his skill (received from being a NEET). Eventually he realizes that his skill is OP as hell and can provide safety, food, and shelter in a world that’s lacking all 3.

It starts off pretty fun because the MC is bad at communicating and he doesn’t know the extent of his power. It first read like a misunderstanding novel. However, by chapter 20 or so, it honestly gets really creepy and very cult-like. The people in... more>> his apartment worship him while he manipulates them with food, equipment, and the threat of kicking them out. <<less

I think this novel has a somewhat interesting premise (although centered around an extra overpowered ability that makes the main character functionally invincible), and was entertaining for the first 20-30 chapters; then my interest started to fade, especially as the main character starts to reveal just how much of an as*hole he is and the author's lack of basic research pokes more and more holes in things.

Spoiler

The things that the author failed to research or put basic effort into start to build up over time - basic failures in math are common, bodies of people who died weeks to months ago are still fresh somehow, society collapsed within a day despite most monsters being easily killed by anybody with a gun, etc.

The main character's abilities influence people's thoughts and perception of him, making the story more "cult building" than "city/town building." This gets more and more apparent over time.

When the main character really shows off how much of an as*hole he is, and the cultish things become excessive: His powers cover 10-ish apartment buildings, and he has at most 3-4 thousand people sheltering with him. He has plenty of resources, yet keeps basic things like water, gas for cooking/heating, and electricity locked off for most people (outside of some insufficient communal locations) aside from the most powerful ones. He keeps new refugees stacked FIFTY people per apartment, and threatens them with expulsion (i.e. Nearly certain death to monsters) if they complain about it. And then his cult members act like he's a saint for letting the one guy he kicked out to threaten the rest of the group back in.

At this point, this number of high-rise apartment buildings should be able to easily fit, at an estimate, 10 thousand people or more with only 5 per apartment. The influence of his powers is still increasing exponentially, and he has plenty of resources to give everybody access to electricity, running water, and gas through his ability. But he chooses to stuff way too many people into too small of an area, and keeps basic resources locked away for no good reason, yet he's treated like and portrayed as a saint. If he was a villain, I would be fine with it. But the author clearly wants him to be the second coming of Jesus Christ. That cognitive dissonance breaks my immersion and suspension of disbelief. What started out as a somewhat interesting community-building story fell off hard, IMO.

Rating 4.2

A novel where MC gains a cheat powers, but done well

A neet who have the power of building his territory and yet does it well, with a sound motivation, a good process and with a good pacing

A solid novel that does not expand the cast too much and stays on lane

SOME SPOILERS MAY BE PRESENT! I'll try to block specific things, but this is a review after finishing an MTL of the novel, so inevitably will discuss things past where the TL group left off.

Short version: Love the unique plot and totally different take on the current isekai/dungeon genre. Side characters are fun to follow even if they aren't described in great detail. My biggest gripe is the over the top plot armor (more below) and slightly abrupt ending, but despite that I loved the story and could barely put... more>> it down!

Long version: I won't go into detail on my disagreement with the "creepy cult" / "a**hole" comments, suffice to say I agree with AiriMage's response. I will say if the cult thing is a dealbreaker for you, stop now, bc
Spoiler

MC is literally turning into a deity as he gets more powerful, and it should not surprise readers that people would deify and worship the person who is singularly saving the world. Also, since he powers up as people trust him, and he can power others up in return, hard to expect him to actively discourage that behavior.

[collapse]

There are some pretty cool monsters in this story, but again the plot armor drove me nuts.
Spoiler

I don't mind him being untouchable in his dwelling, but EVERY time there's even the slightest sense of crisis, he gets exactly what he needs from the system to resolve it easily- be it a level up, skill points, new skill, etc. There is basically no tension, no risk of losing a major character or mass casualties as the result of losing a battle, etc. The last chapter is LITERALLY titled "Deus ex Machina", like come on!

.

But at the end of the day, I enjoyed this kingdom-building style story much more than I anticipated, and the route it took to answer the "why did dungeons suddenly appear, how did I gain these amazing powers" was NOT what I expected at all, so I enjoyed the ride. <<less

Awesome base-building, survival, video game powers, kind of story. MC starts restricted to his apartment, but is able to grow his powers and become something of a genus loci supporting an entire community. Leans more towards positive rather than dark, but it isn't without tension. I do wish there was more description of the side characters so I could picture them in my head/remember which one is which. 5/5 because I enjoy it a lot. Instead of leaving a proper review I'm going to talk about the translation of the... more>> title instead, though with the warning that I don't speak Korean so I could be inaccurate.

The title machine translated is "Absolute person in every corner". Wondering wtf that even meant I did some googling, and from my understanding it's probably means something like someone having absolute control within the entire home. The "absolute" refers to a person like "absolute being". 집구석 Is literally "house corner" but also seems to refer to the space that's within a house.

So, a translation of the title that makes sense could be Absolute Within the Dwelling. "Absolute" being used to describe the implied subject, "dwelling" because it's general since 집 can refer to singular or plural amounts of houses or apartments, and "within" implying the entire inside - A Japanese-style title equivalent could be "As Long as it's Within the Dwelling, I am Absolute." The title used by the translator, "Absolute Dweller", is a pretty good one all things considered. So yeah translation is fun. <<less

It’s honestly not bad, translation is very good, and the novel doesn’t have any usual cliches. The MC isn’t very combat focused, more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy but he’s certainly not weak and develops strength rapidly. Other characters are relatable and the MC is likeable and not one of those ruthless emotionless MCs that know it all. Enjoyable and worth a read so fart
