No major spoilers here.

Better than a LOT of novels I read but I seen better ones too. I would give 3.5 but it is not possible here so here goes 3. Better then most because no romance and no harem for MC so far. How system works is interesting. There are some dilemmas about sources of power and monsters and that is interesting. I liked the existence of peaceful species. But there are things have not enough development for me. Just mentioned by maybe few words. This might change as... more>> you read. But I am just saying it takes a lot of time if by 210 chapter some things from the beginning are not mentioned at all. Sometimes we are left to guess what MC do. Not every upgrade of MC power is mentioned as time passes bc we get to many points to know what are our powers any more. While some characters have some backstory I would love to see more of their thought process and how they go about the missions. Like. I know she's a genius and is able to be the boss administrator but how. Show me some of her thinking and plans. Show me more daily life of MC. Like part by part not just jump from one interesting thing to another. AND what is happening with his family? His mother is basically abandoned by the narrator after she helps us. Grandma is not even mentioned once after event with her ends. Dad is mentioned the most but still not a lot. I just want to see more individual potential of people not just MC.

Read this if you're bored but maybe manhwa woud be a better choice.

That ends my review.

edit: just read another review and problem with jumping from thing to thing might be related to problem with translation. If I read another translation I will update. <<less

Warning! Spoilers ahead! I wasn't quite sure what to tag as a spoiler and what not to as a lot of it isn't related to the plot but instead the worlds mechanics, as well as addressing things other people have said in their reviews not marked with spoilers. With that said, here's my review and addressing of other reviews:

———

Honestly, I absolutely love this series and the way it twist the whole monster/gate genre in a new direction, and so I'd like to share my thoughts on both it and what... more>> I've seen some other reviews say. Most notably about his OP ability, "Absolute Dweller."

I've seen a lot of other people say that our protagonist ability makes him functionally invulnerable and that they dislike it because of that. I personally believe they're missing the point of the protagonist place as a character; he's not a combatant, and hardly even a supporter. He's a sanctuary for people, an immobile fortress made to be safe for himself and others that he can't even leave. The actual combatants are the characters he picks up and raises to be strong, and those are the ones we're meant to feel tension for; and we do, quite often, as they get into deadly battles.

I've also seen mentions of the main characters worship, and it being creepy. While I can't exactly attest for the supposed creepy feelings those people felt when seeing the worship, I'd like to say that from a logical standpoint, the worship makes sense; our main character is functionally a system, the kind that bestows stats, superpowers and safety upon other people, something the world doesn't do on its own (most of the time), all of which are rightfully considered pure miracles by the people around him. It's the same way we readers, as well as characters, see the systems granting skills and stats onto characters in other novels as omnipotent, able to grant anything. And though it's called worship, it's not as if they're bowing down to him or anything. In fact, most are afraid of him or are simply grateful they get to live inside his barrier and use his supplies, as they'd have died otherwise.

I've also seen mention of the main character being, well, an a**hole. He's not. Im going to point out Chicken_person's review directly here and point out some key reasons for the protagonist actions that they seemed to conveniently forget to mention;

1. The ten apartment buildings the protagonist covers are, for the most part, dilapidated and dysfunctional. This is mentioned multiple times and the protagonist even got a function to restore those buildings for most of the money he's currently in possession of. That's why everyone's so cramped together, there genuinely isn't enough space, and if you'd been paying attention you'd have read that.

2. Food and water isn't free, nor is power, even for the protagonist. His ability takes money and uses it to "buy" the materials from his shop or directly bills him for using resources like electricity; the only way he earns money is from monster corpses at the moment, meaning if his currently built up society wants to run, he needs people to fight monsters. That means having them do jobs, which he does supply and give out materials for, to earn the resources they want to use. You also forget to mention how at the start he WAS giving sh*t out for free, but no longer had the capability to do so with the increasing numbers.

3. Finally, no one actually heralds him as a Saint. In fact, several people point out flaws with his current system and ask him to rectify it; there's even a damn riot of people at one point demanding better treatment. He may have a following similar to a "cults" in some cases, but there's also a vast majority of the time you're neglecting where he's not treated like that. In fact, as I said earlier, a lot of the reason he's treated like "Jesus Christ" is because he's scary as shit; he summons things from seemingly nowhere, can grant superpowers to people, can expel someone to the outside world in an instant and has a literal dominating aura around him. As a normal person I also wouldn't wanna talk back to this dude. How you could ignore all of this and say the story is breaking your immersion is genuinely beyond me.

With that all said, I'll leave my review here for now; there's not much more to talk about anyways, unfortunately, as NovelSama, the translators site, has been gone for over a month now with no news of it coming back. It seems we'll have to wait for a new translator, hopefully just as good, to pick this one up.

Edit:

I've remained silent while watching closely, and as of 5 minutes ago, the translators Shinchan Ripper have caught up! From what I've read of their translation up til now, they seem to be of the same quality as NovelSama was, and they're also really responsive to feedback and errors with the translation, so I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the story through them! <<less

I'm writing this review because of this one reviewer—I pushed back from reading this novel for a long time bc of that reviewer but boy that reviewer was just full of lies! Srsly what??

I've read up to ch.159 as of now so I can say, the MC is in NO way an A-hole that that reviewer is claiming to be. At one point I even wondered we're reading the same novel??

1. About 50 ppl squished into one apartment—it's literally explained in the SAME chapter that the MC didn't have a... more>> choice. Even before that it's explained that most places were not habitable. They had to fix or clean (big time cuz monsters destroyed them DUH; a lot of them also had blood all over) before ppl cam live in them.

Spoiler

And here comes the earth golems in later chapters! They are the repairer golems. And apparently, they gain consciousness / have personalities?! (MC seems to be unaware of this, as of ch.159)

Honestly, they seem cute 😭 hopefully there's more of them in later chapters 🤞

[collapse]

2. Ofc he has to give preferential treatment to his warriors—they are literally risking their lives to protect the safe zone or rescue more survivors. Who would want to work like that w/o good conditions?

Oh and his electricity and water power was still quite limited at that time, so no he couldn't just supply to everyone.

Spoiler

but ofc it gets much easier for him to supply later

[collapse]

3. MC has frequent nightmares from failing to rescue everyone.

Spoiler

One time he mistakenly grant citizenship to a vampire since it's too much for him to check one by one (there's like hundreds to thousands survivors coming in time to time if not everyday). That vampire k*lled several people, MC barely noticed on time to rescue the children of those victims, but he still felt guilty and had nightmares.

Also, while the MC is certainly not some pure innocent sweet saint, I LOVE the balance between his humane-ness and his rational thinking. I wouldn't be surprised if the system (or whatever it is) chose to give him this ability for his rationality.

E.g.) There was a cult leader that managed a territory of over 100K people. MC thoroughly investigated everything first. He'd leave them be if they're doing good (bc why would he take them over when they're already living their lives?), or take over if they're bad. The first time he came into contact with a citizen of that cultist territory, a woman seemed to be brainwashed, which is obviously not a good sign–yet MC didn't immediately act bc literally over 100K people are depending on that cult leader to survive. It was only after thorough investigations, making sure that it would be better for the 100K ppl to come under him, that MC acted upon to take over the territory.

Ch. 150+, more territories led by other powerful people emerged. Similarly, MC didn't bother annexing good territories (though they do end up going to MC on their own accord since it's much better living in MC's domain).

[collapse]

If I remembered correctly, not once did MC *force* a person to do sth for him. He'd always ask if they're alright, or they can give up if they want, even if it's a huge loss.

If I had to nitpick, then maybe the fact that he summoned (teleport) ppl out of nowhere from time to time (though it was explained initially that there's a timeout thingy so ppl will know when they're about to be summoned; not too sure on this part though my memory is fuzzy)... makes me think, what if they're showering–

Anyways. That last bit is the ONLY thing I can think about when it comes to the "bad" part of his personality. I read so many novels and comics, and dare I say, this MC is one of the better ones in terms of personality 😭 (you guys know how unhinged protagonists are nowadays).

I'm still angry at myself for avoiding this novel for such a long time just bc of that one reviewer 💀

I understand that some ppl can interpret the same narrative differently, but this isn't even about interpretation. It's outright lies, talking about MC being an A-hole and stuff. Though again, the MC isn't a saint, bc he's more of a rational person. Being rational means there's a situation he HAD to sacrifice one thing over another to prevent an even bigger disaster that will drag everyone down the hole, especially when he's a leader responsible for hundreds of thousands of lives. <<less

The world’s gone to sh*t and the MC is stuck in his room due to his skill (received from being a NEET). Eventually he realizes that his skill is OP as hell and can provide safety, food, and shelter in a world that’s lacking all 3.

It starts off pretty fun because the MC is bad at communicating and he doesn’t know the extent of his power. It first read like a misunderstanding novel. However, by chapter 20 or so, it honestly gets really creepy and very cult-like. The people in... more>> his apartment worship him while he manipulates them with food, equipment, and the threat of kicking them out. <<less

I think this novel has a somewhat interesting premise (although centered around an extra overpowered ability that makes the main character functionally invincible), and was entertaining for the first 20-30 chapters; then my interest started to fade, especially as the main character starts to reveal just how much of an as*hole he is and the author's lack of basic research pokes more and more holes in things.

Spoiler

The things that the author failed to research or put basic effort into start to build up over time - basic failures in math are common, bodies of people who died weeks to months ago are still fresh somehow, society collapsed within a day despite most monsters being easily killed by anybody with a gun, etc.

The main character's abilities influence people's thoughts and perception of him, making the story more "cult building" than "city/town building." This gets more and more apparent over time.

When the main character really shows off how much of an as*hole he is, and the cultish things become excessive: His powers cover 10-ish apartment buildings, and he has at most 3-4 thousand people sheltering with him. He has plenty of resources, yet keeps basic things like water, gas for cooking/heating, and electricity locked off for most people (outside of some insufficient communal locations) aside from the most powerful ones. He keeps new refugees stacked FIFTY people per apartment, and threatens them with expulsion (i.e. Nearly certain death to monsters) if they complain about it. And then his cult members act like he's a saint for letting the one guy he kicked out to threaten the rest of the group back in.

At this point, this number of high-rise apartment buildings should be able to easily fit, at an estimate, 10 thousand people or more with only 5 per apartment. The influence of his powers is still increasing exponentially, and he has plenty of resources to give everybody access to electricity, running water, and gas through his ability. But he chooses to stuff way too many people into too small of an area, and keeps basic resources locked away for no good reason, yet he's treated like and portrayed as a saint. If he was a villain, I would be fine with it. But the author clearly wants him to be the second coming of Jesus Christ. That cognitive dissonance breaks my immersion and suspension of disbelief. What started out as a somewhat interesting community-building story fell off hard, IMO.

I’m someone who likes to read leveling up stories when I’m mentally tired and I never expect to like the MC but this one was particularly likeable, I’m a bit baffled by the amount of people dissing him? I’m normally very clear with myself I’m reading tr*sh and this one wasn’t it so I decided I’m coming here to speak a little about the MC so you may make a better informed choice in whether to read or not, I’ll try to talk generally

Spoiler

is this how I should write spoilers? Let me try.

At first the character doesn’t have any objective aside from wanting to find his family but being incapable of doing anything

Once he realizes he can give people more power and they may help him in using those outside his domain in trade for the food and security he is very fixated in finding his family but still acts smart and patient to not put the (future) vanguard at risk, he never hides his intentions but since he himself does not have knowledge about the extent of his own power or how it will develop in the future he prefers not to communicate much (he’s also smart enough to not show stuff ig, someone could see him as a threat)

There’s a lot of guilt before and after he finds his family, he is not the only one who has lost family out there but he does do the best with the information he has to try to help the others too

there is even a plot with a mother who wants her dead son’s resurrection and it went in a very interesting direction if I say so myself, the resolution is one of my favorite moments

after his only objective is met (his family) he drifts for some chapters with vague objectives of helping until there’s a catalyst for him to realize he can do something for real to help and them he locks in trying to save as much people as he can

He has very absolute powers over people on his domain but he does hide the extent of it even when it would be easier to just kill some threat infiltrated there

he puts up ways to give people second chances and ends up assimilating people in his territory as long as their crimes where reasonable for survival

He gives rights to previous residents of their homes, which sound very low bar but it’s an apocalyptic novel so I do think it’s a shining point for him

he does not see himself as a good and kind person, mostly because he is ready to kill people if they’re a threat, much like the monsters but he still has nightmares about the hard decisions he had to take in one occasion there (even if the people sacrificed in a trolley problem-like situation ended up being participant in a insane mu*derous plot)

He can’t directly do the fighting so there is some concern about asking people to blood their hands for him but his retainers agree to his stance

once he has ways to meddle in things outside the barrier he immediately goes on to fight himself

He delegated a lot of administration and mostly puts his own focus in expansion at first but once he has the means he also personally starts to help with rescue operations

He is a bit of a workaholic so his relationships and down time suffers a lot but there’s also some attention from the author there

[collapse]

aside from all that about the MC, I really enjoyed all the other characters and their stories and motivations, the power system and wordbuilding, the powers and monsters and the battles are all aspects I’ve had fun reading

Unfortunately I can’t find where to read more for free after chapter 210 so so my broke a— might have to wait for other translators <<less

A novel where MC gains a cheat powers, but done well

A neet who have the power of building his territory and yet does it well, with a sound motivation, a good process and with a good pacing

A solid novel that does not expand the cast too much and stays on lane

SOME SPOILERS MAY BE PRESENT! I'll try to block specific things, but this is a review after finishing an MTL of the novel, so inevitably will discuss things past where the TL group left off.

Short version: Love the unique plot and totally different take on the current isekai/dungeon genre. Side characters are fun to follow even if they aren't described in great detail. My biggest gripe is the over the top plot armor (more below) and slightly abrupt ending, but despite that I loved the story and could barely put... more>> it down!

Long version: I won't go into detail on my disagreement with the "creepy cult" / "a**hole" comments, suffice to say I agree with AiriMage's response. I will say if the cult thing is a dealbreaker for you, stop now, bc
Spoiler

MC is literally turning into a deity as he gets more powerful, and it should not surprise readers that people would deify and worship the person who is singularly saving the world. Also, since he powers up as people trust him, and he can power others up in return, hard to expect him to actively discourage that behavior.

[collapse]

There are some pretty cool monsters in this story, but again the plot armor drove me nuts.
Spoiler

I don't mind him being untouchable in his dwelling, but EVERY time there's even the slightest sense of crisis, he gets exactly what he needs from the system to resolve it easily- be it a level up, skill points, new skill, etc. There is basically no tension, no risk of losing a major character or mass casualties as the result of losing a battle, etc. The last chapter is LITERALLY titled "Deus ex Machina", like come on!

[collapse]
.

But at the end of the day, I enjoyed this kingdom-building style story much more than I anticipated, and the route it took to answer the "why did dungeons suddenly appear, how did I gain these amazing powers" was NOT what I expected at all, so I enjoyed the ride. <<less

The MC has soooo many vassals and there's a ton of new characters popping in and out that I often lost count of the story. Characters that actively participate in one arc will vanish in the next one, which is disappointing because I was lowkey invested in theor progress. The story itself is very neat (too neat) and the battles aren't boringly one-sided, in fact our MC relied on and developed his vassals during those battles.

Some arcs was barely understandable with mtl so I lost a lot of context clues... more>> and the ending was also confusing.
Spoiler

Like, how did he stop the black aura? With the power of trust?

Anyway, it's a fun light read. <<less

Awesome base-building, survival, video game powers, kind of story. MC starts restricted to his apartment, but is able to grow his powers and become something of a genus loci supporting an entire community. Leans more towards positive rather than dark, but it isn't without tension. I do wish there was more description of the side characters so I could picture them in my head/remember which one is which. 5/5 because I enjoy it a lot. Instead of leaving a proper review I'm going to talk about the translation of the... more>> title instead, though with the warning that I don't speak Korean so I could be inaccurate.

The title machine translated is "Absolute person in every corner". Wondering wtf that even meant I did some googling, and from my understanding it's probably means something like someone having absolute control within the entire home. The "absolute" refers to a person like "absolute being". 집구석 is literally "house corner" but also seems to refer to the space that's within a house.

So, a translation of the title that makes sense could be Absolute Within the Dwelling. "Absolute" being used to describe the implied subject, "dwelling" because it's general since 집 can refer to singular or plural amounts of houses or apartments, and "within" implying the entire inside - A Japanese-style title equivalent could be "As Long as it's Within My Home, I am Absolute." The title used by the translator, "Absolute Dweller", is a good one all things considered. So yeah translation is fun.

Edit: Webtoon's official English title, "The Ultimate Shut-In"! Could have been worse. Doesn't convey the same meaning as the original Korean title, but it works better as a title in the English language. But the MC starts going outside more later... <<less

It’s honestly not bad, translation is very good, and the novel doesn’t have any usual cliches. The MC isn’t very combat focused, more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy but he’s certainly not weak and develops strength rapidly. Other characters are relatable and the MC is likeable and not one of those ruthless emotionless MCs that know it all. Enjoyable and worth a read so fart

It's interesting, above average even, but there's something wrong with the pacing... or rather it feels like there are mini timeskips here and there. Characters get introduced off screen. Battles start onscreen, but then finish off screen, with the results only implied. I thought maybe there was missing text or chapters... but I think the author might be going for a more of a god-like (perspective) management/simulation game. Where we're just seeing the results of the MC's plans interspersed with snippets of his followers activities?

Still I had to take off... more>> a point because of it. I just find it jarring at times and confusing at others. <<less

This series is pretty good and interesting actually. There's a twist I didn't expect, LMAO. The MC too although being quite selfish (just because he put his family first) is not heartless towards the other people especially his subordinates. It's quite refreshing to see empathetic MC like him.

Also, the plot is quite repetitive and light. Although there's casualties, the MC's plans always run smoothly. A good read for leisure time, and you can turn your brain off while reading it.

(Anyway, where's the rest of the chapters? I wonder.)

I read this series using translation from a different site than the ones linked here, so I can't say much about the translation issues other reviewers have mentioned. Overall, I really liked this story as someone who gravitates towards management, city development, and post-apocalyptic themes. I love OP protagonists that take a more background role in action scenes, so this was totally up my alley. There hasn't been any overt harem vibes either. No sign of romance so far, thankfully.

There's also a manhwa adaptation, even though it only has 18... more>> chapters right now. <<less

The story is good. It's a repetitive plot but I think, after knowing the reason for MC out-of-norm power, it's quite normal how repetitive it is. It isn't boring just you know he's gonna win at the end and there will always be a lucky solution for him but it's still quite good. A good reading.

Note: Review score subject to change.

Now first off, when I started reading this I thought it was a decent story, but I was very confused about it as parts of the chapters just seemed to be missing or skipped over. A fight with goblins here, a character gets majorly injured there, so I decided to dig deeper.

I found out that it was due to the second website's translation (Shinchan). Their translation, while further along, just completely cut off parts of the chapters, sometimes a sentence or paragraph, other times half... more>> of the entire chapter. I'm going to give it another try on the first translation (Cidfish), and then do a proper review, but I'm writing this because I think the Shinchan translations should be removed.

(And if you want to check it yourself, simply open up the first chapter of both. <<less
