Once upon a time, there was an office worker who was dragged by his boss to take a hot spring bath. While he was soaking…

This is probably very serious. He came to a Beast world and was l**ked out of his sleep by a golden lion. The lion accompanied him. Only then did he understood this world… when he came to the lion’s tribe, he found that this was really not an experimental base…

2.5 stars: Very conventional for its genre of BL isekai transmigration primitive beastmen-world-where-the-shou-MC-is-now-"female", and I can't believe something so specific is actually a genre but it is. The story is simple enough that the first translation of apparently lightly edited (or sometimes apparently unedited) MTL is readable though often awkward, though I do appreciate the occasional footnote explanations of idioms. This is a very fast-moving story about the golden retriever-type gong devoting himself to pampering the delicate shou, though the gong is technically a lion beastman and for once the... more>> delicateness of the shou isn't just in the gong's eyes, the beastmen norm is much stronger on average than typical humans, even for their "females".

Spoiler

Naturally the shou being so weak stops being an issue almost immediately due to reasons because otherwise it'd make things too inconvenient for the shou. Just like how he loses his glasses and is functionally blind for all of like one chapter before the gong gives him a medicine that magically cures his nearsightedness.

[collapse]

(By the way, if you're the type of person where it annoys you that a fantasy world of only men exists and "females" are just non-animal-transforming men who can get pregnant and are still subjected to typically female-coded gender expectations, and that the story constantly refers to the MC as "female" while keeping masculine pronouns, don't read this story 'cause you're gonna have an aneurysm within five chapters.)

There's not much drama as the story is pretty much fluff, and there's not much logic but the story isn't very serious in the first place so it's fine, and surprisingly there's enough little details about the beastmen world and the gong's clan to world build a little and make some surface sense, enough to keep the world from being totally generic and add a bit of interest even if it's not deep or complex. Like the way animal bones in their world have different purposes based on their composition (oily ones are flavoring for soups, hard ones are used to carve tools, etc) and are used a lot in bartering, or how their houses are built high up without steps because beastmen can effortlessly jump a few meters—although logically, the difference in bone composition is weirdly varied and doesn't make sense, and it also doesn't make sense that high-up houses lack steps/ladders because what about the elderly, infirm, and children, but y'know, like I said, surface-sense and the story doesn't dwell on these things so I'm fine overlooking them even if my analytical brain sometimes won't shut up.

Spoiler

Though I admit that I had to control myself to stop from busting out literally LOLing at the shou's detailed "scientific analysis" that he just thinks up out of nowhere of how the radiation from the new world's double suns built up over time in his body to trigger a fever-evolution that made his entire body stronger to match the beastmen average, so he can now also jump meters in the air and his teeth are strong enough to chew the hard meats and vegetables he couldn't before—also, he became "female" because his original body type was closer to the "female" standard than the musclebound animal-transforming male and "naturally" his body adapted to the world by evolving toward the path of least resistance. AHAHAHAHAHA. Ahem.

Later on, despite his body "evolving" to be the same as an orc's, he finds out that the orc lifespan is hundreds of years and falls into angst for a while because he's an ordinary human and will die long before Tan Tu. Even more later on when he becomes pregnant, he's super shocked because he didn't think it was possible since he was a male human! Again, despite his body changing in every other way to be like an orc's. But of course once he gets over this shock, he's happy because preggo means more family and also it means he's now fully an orc and will have the same lifespan as Tan Tu. Hooray!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I can't take it seriously despite how seriously it's presented but this story is silly fluff overall so I'm not hating on the absurdity of it.

[collapse]

The characters are all inoffensively shallow and the shou, as usual for isekai stories, adapts almost instantly to the new world and his new tribe and is content to stay there, despite some superficial worries about his senior who he for some reason firmly believes was isekai-ed into the new world too, and a few quickly-quelled qualms about being treated as a "female" and courted by this hot doting lion guy.

This is one of those stories where the pseudo-science aspects of it are so totally out there and the world and characters are so trope-y and one-dimensional that it's equal parts fun and cringe, fluff and absurdity.

I have to note though that while the second translator does a considerably better job, the last 16 chapters and all of the extras are locked behind a blatant paywall. Not gonna get into the ethics of me reading illegal translations online for free VS translators illegally profiting off of an author's work, just thought I should point out that while the story is apparently completely translated, you won't be able to read all of the Shanghai Fantasy version without paying them. <<less

Not really sure why so many people love this. It’s okay. No drama, no problems and no worries. It’s not even fluffy in my opinion. It feels very forced and awkward.

Spoiler

MC only likes ML because he doesn’t know anyone else and hasn’t met anyone else. He just imprints to the ML because he’s the first person to care about him other than his senior and the ML likes the MC because he’s unmarried and the “first person he’s ever been able to connect with” but really it’s because MC doesn’t reject him like other females do and did. ML seems like he would’ve been with anyone who accepted him and since he couldn’t, he took advantage of MC.

It’s very fast paced - both in reading and in the plot. It’s only been a month or so and MC married ML and is pregnant in a week of them fcking each other. After 6 months since arrival, MC meets his senior and his senior is already with the snake guy and for no good reason at all, MC refuses to let his friend know that the snake guy is trying to mate with him and that he is a female now.

Not sure about anyone else but the MC personality was supposed to be calm and collected and strict. He was a manager in a company and known for being taciturn, but he wants to consider his friend’s possible freak out more than letting him know the truth?? Like dude is going to freak out either way like when he found out snake guy could turn into a snake!

Also it’s kind of creepy how MC was a straight man who fit into a masculine gender role and EASILY let himself become a house wife. Doesn’t make sense that he understands so many emotional ques or EQ when he is an orphan who has never really had friends or a relationship before either. Shouldn’t he be more oblivious than his senior in this case since his senior is a people person and very outgoing??

Let’s also mention the fact that both of these modern people accepted the environment and living conditions so easily? Like the houses don’t have a toilet and there is no A/C or heater and for some reason males can build a huge two story house in a couple hours?? I thought this was supposed to be tribal - it does not sound tribal at all.

Ok ok I absolutely adore this author and her novels (i have medicine, modern taoist, etc) and I already mtl this for 3 times bcs I love it so much, so forgive me if I sound too subjective lol.

So, this novel is set on a primitive like world and as usual MC is transmigrated from modern world, then ML saved him and they slowly fall in love. Wait! Not in this story tho... the process of fall in love is really quick and efficient. No dog blood, no love rivals,... more>> no denial and rejection towards ML (well maybe at first but only one or two sentences) after that they quickly get married and live happily ever after (and have buns).

Maybe if you're looking for more adventure or drama this novel is too bland and flat for you. Bcs the beast tribe itself is quite peaceful and they are not too primitive (they know how to produce ironware and pottery). The point of this novel is really the relationship between MC and ML and also between side cps
Spoiler

the senior x arsen (that snake guy), the witch doctor x ryan (this is quite unusual bcs both of them are "female" but ryan is stronger than any beastmen)

[collapse]

What I really like about this novel is the character of the ML, I guess this author really like to write puppy like ML lol. The ML in this novel is very loyal and so silly, it's quite funny. Overall this novel is cute and quick read, it doesn't have much chapter as author's other novels but the ending is satisfying enough. Though I still think that the reason why MC and senior transmigrated is a bit absurd but who needs logic when reading bl, right? Lol <<less

It has a lot of similarity to Alsar and Never marry a man with two tintins. There's only ger-like males that can give birth who does not have a beast form. Perhaps it's glaring difference from the above titles is that despite the lack of females, the possessive beast-shous refuse to share.

There were two earthling transmigrators, the MC and his senpai (who he considers as his adoptive brother) that got transported with him. The two met only at later chapters. But I like that MC met someone he knew... more>> from his previous world and suffer this primitive strangeness together with him. Since they don't have beast form, they both became the "female" of this world. And later found their own beastman, thus we have two main couples. I like the pacing, it's not a boring daily slice of life but it do tells a story. And most of all, no third-party drama. <<less

[Note for MTL: Orc = Beastman/Were-Beast

The English translation always seems to be 'Orc' in Chinese novels even though they are not the same as a fantasy Orc. Perhaps Chinese does not have a distinction between them.]

The MC is pulled into another world during an otherwise normal trip to the hot springs. There are primordial trees, dangerous animals, two moons, and... were-beasts?? There are no women in this world. Men are born into an animal prototype which can turn into human shape. Females have only a human shape. The MC can... more>> only be a female considering he has travelled to another world in his original body...

There are hints that the MC is not the first or last to travel between worlds. The MC recognizes the language of this new world although it's a dead language in his own. There are also hints that there is a massive time dilation between the two planes. Lifespan is much longer and it is directly confirmed that several months pass in this new world during only a few seconds or minutes on Earth. Luckily it's easier to evolve despite harsher conditions.

Overall this is a pretty good novel within the sub-genre. There is appropriate respect shown to the primal culture. "This civilisation has, after all, survived for over 10, 000 years, " as the MC puts it. The author presents a fully functional human society in a tribal setting. The novel doesn't show a single instance of r*pe or human cannibalism, although it's possible that the Males have eaten meat from creatures of the same animal type. There is a scene where their Python neighbor kills some snakes although it's unknown if he would eat snake meat...

The tribe as a whole is very harmonious both within and with other tribes. The environment is too harsh and fertility is too low so unity is more important to the locals than in modern society. The rules are completely different, but laws definitely exist and the focus is on protection of the weak and respect for the strong. The MC's only golden finger is that he does not have a major language barrier. His modern knowledge is of very little use and the only instance where it comes in handy is when he somewhat manages to instruct the ML on how to make a stone mill.

It's rare and refreshing to have such a novel where the MC adapts to and enjoys such a setting. The side couples are pretty interesting as well with unique dynamics compared to the main couple.

Spoiler

There is a female x female couple. It's said that they will not be able to have children, but I'm not so sure. The MC's thought process on gender makes me think that the females have two sets of s*xual organs and they may both be potentially functional. They may be less useful than a pure male or a pure human female considering the low fertility. Regardless, the witch doctor consumes herbs which can result in infertility. This is a much larger barrier than their female identities. They get full support for their relationship from the tribes despite all perceived obstacles which is pretty nice.

[collapse]

My theory is that the original orcs were born from human men who travelled into this world, survived with tools, and eventually formed relationships together. These men who were originally unable to give birth were transformed by the environment and unexpectedly became pregnant. This hot spring could be the only entry point into the world but it may not be as well. That the MC can fully transition into a female hints that there is an inexplicable connection between the 'orcs' and the humans. <<less

Hmm, it's cute. Very very simple, no-fuss romance. Personally, I got a bit bored though.

Points for primitive beastman society but no force or r*pe! Note: "Orc" for them is just the name for these people.

Sorry I had to drop this. For some reason, the rhythm of this story is very dry. I have read a lot of slice of life stories, and with this background, the story telling could have been more engaging.

Although it is true that there is a lot of fluff between the MC and ML. I think this is the only saving grace of this story.

So sweet and fluffy. There’s zero third-party drama. The issues are minor and realistic ones based on the MC’s situation, like the whole mpreg thing.

Also, super adorable side pairing close to the end.

a simple and fluffy story to relax. Without unnecessary dramas and with direct crushes, perhaps too much.
It would be nice to have further development of the secondary and the new world, most are kept in vague descriptions without a major participation in the plot

The story is very nice, very fluffy! Enjoyable to anyone who wants an easy read!

However, it is warned that there isn't a lot of common sense on the MC's part sometimes, but it's bearable.
