One: LQ never really seemed to fully remember his previous iterations; two: could just be my desensitization talking, but LQ didn’t really seem very yandere (save for LA, was upsetti about her mu*der), felt disappointed overall;

[collapse]
three: ending just felt unfinished. The extras didn’t even really do it for me. All cons combined lose a star. It was an interesting read tho. Total of 4/5

OOF, WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS NOVEL T.T I guess, first things first, it's really good if you're into complex characters and whump. By whump, I mean endless abuse on the main characters in question XD It sounds really bad, and usually, I don't enjoy angst either. It's partly why it took me so long to read this infinite flow novel (even though it was one of the first ones that I encountered). However, the mature, psychological aspect is truly this novel's selling point. You can't help but care about... more>> the characters, and the more they hurt, the more you want them to be happy. (Of course, the main thing that kept me going was the promised Happy Ending, otherwise... oof. no way would I have persisted all the way to the end.) Bah. Enough babbling.

Summary: On a seemingly normal day, the MC (Xu Rendong), gets dragged into a separate dimension via an elevator. After realizing that he has no choice but to get in, he does so and finds himself waking up in a different world altogether. Soon, he realizes the fact that he can rewind time (back to the beginning of the instance) after each death. This allows him to survive this strange world despite his otherwise ordinary qualifications. That's right, other than being able to turn back time, he's completely ordinary! It's the ML (Lian Qiao) who has the experience of being a gaming anchor who is able to guide him through the right ending. Just like this, the two of them continue working together to survive until they're able to finish their trials.

The concept of the instance worlds is similar to "Kaladeiscope of Death". If you've read it, you know what I mean. If you haven't, the basic premise is that, the players are actually people who are on the cusp of death. And, they must survive the instances so that they can continue living a normal life. Of course, there's a Final Level, and once they pass this level, they can be said to have passed the qualifications to continue living. However, the problem is that the instance world is unlike other infinite flow novels where the players have access to endless props and abilities. For the most part, they can only survive based on their means. So, surviving is actually extremely difficult.

To wrap things up. Here are some things of note: This novel is definitely a lot darker than you're average infinite-flow novel. The descriptions are also rather gorey, since the author appears to be a medical student. That's where most of the 'horror' aspect comes from, I suppose. Otherwise, it's more of a suspense or psychological thriller. If you're still interested after knowing this, I highly recommend it! I love the main characters here, and I would have really liked to see more of their story.

CHARACTERS: 10/10

The characters of this novel are very realistic. There's a reason for everything that they do, which gives them a really solid foundation.

Xu Rendong (MC)

The MC is a little stoic and indifferent. An ice cold beauty, to keep it simple. However, this is only on the outside. He's actually really really really soft in the inside. He just doesn't know how to properly communicate with others. He tries, and stumbles awkwardly each time.

Lian Qiao (ML)

The ML is a milk dog with the potential of turning into a wolf LOL. He's a gaming anchor, so he's extremely talkative, unlike the MC. The two are really contrasting in all ways. He's also a facecon, and he livens up the atmosphere of the novel quite often. Making it seem like there are pink bubbles everywhere when his POV comes on.

ROMANCE: 9.5/10

I've gotta say, these two had serious issues on their communication. I guess partly because of the block on the MC (he couldn't tell the ML about his repeating instances). This communication issue cause quite a bit of drama in the end, but thankfully, it was not the type that turned me off the novel completely. I still like these two idiots a lot. And I enjoyed reading about how they develop their feelings. Though I felt cheated at times because of the ML's memory being wiped at key moments DX (AHHHHHHH THE BUTTERFLY)

SETTING: 8.5/10

The setting is just as I described. It's quite grim. And it feels a bit hopeless at times. Because of this, I agree with the TL-er that this novel may not be for everyone. It's really unlike most BL novels, where the MC and ML is always taking everyone to win without trouble (I mean, they do still do that here, but it's definitely only after a LOT of trouble). If you don't like dark settings, I suggest not reading this novel all in one go!

PLOT: 8/10

To be honest, I thought the ending was missing a little something-something. I can't say it because I feel it would be a spoiler. But because of this something-something, the story feels very incomplete to me. Of course, the ending now is definitely the Happy Ending. The two are able to maintain their humanity and live happily together. However, I would say it's now the True Ending.

Major Spoilers:
Spoiler

I believe that the True Ending should have the ML regaining his memory as well. Of course, things may not be so happy and simple in the end. But only then do I think the story would truly feel complete.

[collapse]

RATING: 4.5/5

As mentioned, I tend to avoid stories that are heavy on whump and angst. However, this novel was truly golden! Definitely worth the read ahh. I especially don't believe I'll be forgetting the MC and ML anytime soon (the ML especially, DX he's just so cute!!!) <<less

My heart hurts. Really. I like both the MC and ML, but I really really love the MC. He's too pitiful, guys 🥲. He doesn't have some kind of hidden superpower. He's just a normal person, with normal deduction abilities, memory, physical fitness and mental fortitude (scratch that. This characteristic had been honed through several miserable scenarios, so I must say, he's mentally quite strong)

To be honest, the horror element and the world setting reminded me of "Kaleidescape of death" and honestly, I think that one did better in... more>> being eerie (I dunno how to explain it. That one felt scarier than this and I don't even know why I'm comparing the two). What makes this novel stand out is our MC's ability. Another thing is that, like I said, this one really hurts the heart. Sometimes you don't even know what to feel about the situation. That part is gutwrenching.

Anyways, 129 chapters in, 10/10 so far. Heavy story, but a good read nonetheless. <<less

god I hope this guy is the ML I f*cking already love him so much

if he is, I'm already smitten and will read this regardless if its tr*sh
-

usually don't like these types of novels because the MC is portrayed as powerless for either the entire novel or until the final 3 chapters

and it usually has a lot of Male God moments, as in "that guy 30.142 seconds ago made a noise during the full moon at precisely 12:34am, therefor making him the xyz mu*derer!"

-

has not happened yet and will update if it does

-

something else im worried about is the MCs "Gift" as stated in the description of the novel, shown as well in the first 3 chapters

im worried that the Author isn't going to use it unless its at the start of the "Games/Arcs" in fear of resetting character development, synopsises are not reliable so its hard to tell if the Author is just gonna make MC godlike and know everything because of his Resets and then only show the alive portion with the Character development

like the recent trend of novels of MCs going to other worlds or simulations, they spend decades in them, mostly time skipped, then MC just hops back in his world, unfazed other than usually a comment about

"[MC] opened his eyes to the strangely familiar environment"

usually just using them as an excuse to "learn" skills other than just "infusing" knowledge like most novels with skills and systems

It's really good! It has its flaws, but the MC and ML are both interesting and developed. Warning, there are dark themes in this novel (and horror, but you knew that) and the main characters have gray morals at times. Still, the overall tone isn't depressing or edgy. There are happy moments and angsty ones.

I really appreciate how the MC and ML feel like equals. Despite the MC's special power, the ML is still competent and arguably just as useful. At the start, I genuinely couldn't tell who was the... more>> gong or the shou, and I like that. You know what else I like? They work hard to trust each other. Some novels have couples who automatically trust or distrust each other, but this MC and ML have to work hard to maintain their trust. It just feels more realistic this way imo. They know each other is kinda sus, but they fight back their distrust. I respect them for that.

The ML's personality is also refreshing! He's like a puppy at times, haha. He's smart and competent, but he's not perfect. He does dumb things sometimes, but makes up for it. Also, the changes to his character (and the MC's) are really interesting and feel natural. Like, after going through all those instances... isn't it normal to change a little? I'm glad the relationship isn't a toxic one in the end. I'm still scarred by all those dominant/possessive/yandere gongs in BL lol. ML has some tendencies (being possessive after so many instances... can't blame him after the horrors lol), but he's still more of a golden retriever than a yandere imo.
How the MC and ML fell in love was also enjoyable. I didn't feel like they went through much annoying miscommunication, and they were pretty straightforward once they realized.

The side characters aren't the most fleshed out, but they're memorable enough. I like the monk, haha. Sometimes, I felt like some arcs were a little long, but I'm mostly impressed that the author managed to write so many repeats without it feeling boring. I read it in one go and never felt like stopping. The instances are also pretty fun and well-designed. I also think it's great how the author managed to keep the horror movie vibes despite the MC having that OP power of his.

The ending was decent. Maybe a bit abrupt, but you could tell it was coming. It was a little confusing for me (maybe I'm a little s*upid :P), but it was wrapped up pretty well. I'm still a bit confused, but it was an enjoyable read and the ending didn't ruin that. <<less

Amazing translations, I really appreciate the notes at the end which help me to understand references limited to Chinese audiences.
Spoiler

Really like the dynamics between Xu RenDong (MC) and Lian Qiao (ML). I am a sucker for MLs who are literally golden retrievers! They have a natural camaraderie despite meeting each other very recently, and developed feelings for each other very fast (Or, well at least Lian Qiao did). Furthermore, I love how Xu RenDong is the only one who remembers all of their experiences together, whereas Lian Qiao does not. It's perfect angst material, and for that I was hoping that there would be a greater sense of alienation from each other. But unfortunately not. So given that I prefer slow burns and enemies-to-lovers, this aspect made me lose my interest in reading further.

The instances are very creative, I really love the second one, where they turned into children and have to acknowledge that they have to clear the instance in a more tactical way (Lian Qiao's sandbags and rope was very clever, albeit comedic). However, its hard to describe the feeling accurately but I really think that these instances are extremely unrealistic and "random-generated' if that makes sense. Perhaps its the way Xu RenDong and Lian Qiao tries to clear these instances, but the clues are so... particularized yet vague. Maybe its because I read a lot of classic detective stories and played psychological horror games as well (probably the difference between survival horror fans and psychological horror fans lololol) so I just feel bummed out that I can't try and solve it alongside Xu RenDong and Lian Qiao.

This also loses out on the characterisation of Lian Qiao and Xu RenDong, as I sometimes don't think they're as smart as the author is portraying them, but rather has plot armor. Ugh! I at least really love Lian Qiao's logic, as he tries to look through all the cabinets and tries to clear things in an unconventional way, similar to a game.

Anyways, really good novel! Just not what I am interested in at the moment. I will probably come back and finish reading it.

I apparently dropped at ch91 before, can't remember why. I do remember very clearly the overall plot and the characters, and I remember liking the story. May re-read at some point and catch up.

One thing I do remember liking is that the MC makes mistakes. True he has to die for those mistakes to reset, but he does make them, which makes him feel a little more human.

Love it so far, waiting for updates.
Thought while reading:

Spoiler

I can’t lie I thought it was tooooo violent at first so dropped it but then picked it up again. I quite like MC and ML! ML is so cute and reliable but gives yandere vibes especially at chapter 72! That kiss was so forking hot 😂, I can’t lie tho, I’d blame MC for that, although he don’t wanna make ML misunderstand, he already knew ML misunderstood and still went to visit his mum at night time. To ML it seemed as he went to his ex to get together again and ended up in a deadly situation. I don’t get why he wouldn’t just make it clear! Anywya,

I wouldn’t blame ML for what he did. I would do the same 👍.

I feel bad for MC every time he has to be reborn, I would wanna cry and not do it anymore if this happened constantly, so did MC do the same.

I feel that both MC and ML are flawed. They got their own flaws, I like how they can be vulnerable Infront of eachother and they can rely on eachother, I find it adorable while MC acts coquettish in front of ML! Or when ML acts possessive. I understand both sides of the story, like when ML would be very worried and act out without thinking.

They’re both incredibly smart yet flawed.

f*ck OFF bit*h AUTHOR, FUSISVISB I HATE YOU f*ckINGSHAGEIEBWJ I HATE YOU SO MUVH I CANR STAND ANGST!! WHY MAKE MY BABY SUFFER UOU f*ckING c*nt AYSGWIGEIWHE I HATEBUEHWDBEK

I've a friend who says I've symptoms of M. Whatever. So, ML is cute, sweet and a fool in love. Don't mistake him as a weak chicken, he is really strong and I've no idea how he figures everything out.

On the other hand, MC is too pitiful. He's like "I don't want to die but I still die". Hopefully the constant loop didn't make him mental ill patient. But I'm distressed how he got used to inhuman tortures. Sigh* overall, this novel is very satisfying.

I'm reading this because the high rating and the translator is the one who translate Rebirth of Movie Actor. For now I rate 4 out of 5 because imo the "re-set" is quite a strong skill to have (although whether to have mentally crumble or not it depends on each individual) and it's more like a blessing rather than a curse in this situation; and the ML (I thought he was supporting lead but actually ML because I read the notes) — just like translator said, his existence (and characteristic?)... more>> is to lift the atmosphere/mood but that's not my cup of tea (although I do think it's cute)

I always like cautious and deep thinking MC (and/or ML) such as Supernatural Movie Actor App and for every horror there's a logical reasoning backstory (for completely horror story I like My House of Horror and My Iyashikei Game) so this spoiler below make me fixed on 4☆

However, just in case, Xu RenDong asked if anyone knew who made the snowman outside the door. As a result, everyone’s face became worse, Xu Hong’s voice barked sharply: “Snowman? Someone actually made a snowman in this kind of situation?! Who is it?! “Her eyes were red, almost neurotically so, and everyone silently looked away from her hot gaze. Xu Hong refused to let go, shouting: “Say it ah! Who built it! Just come out and confess! Come on!”

It was clear that her sanity was beginning to collapse. Xu RenDong had to try to smooth things over: “Maybe this snowman was here before we came, only we didn’t notice.”

Totally recommended for people who likes mystery and unlimited flow novels. I'm still not done with this novel, but considering how much I'm eager to finish it, I would say that I'm already half done.

Anyway. Weighing out the pros and cons:

Pros

... more>> - the emotions and angst just felt so real and heavy. I honestly don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but when I was reading it I can see that the emotional scenes makes the main character felt real to me.

- the main character. He's a pretty calm guy, and he knows how to do stuff, but he is totally not overpowered in terms of strength and intelligence. Later on, he begun to developed sign of adapting ML's analytical way of thinking, but earlier on he mainly relies on using the information he gathered in previous regression turns. For me, what I like about him is that despite being a rational and reserve person, he really can make you feel the same desperation and anxiety he's feeling during the games.

- the dynamics between the two. I already knew that I lean towards cold beauty shou x puppy-like gong so this is just a foregone conclusion hahahahha

- the regression turns (get that from another novel but you can call it whatever you want). Like there's turns where the author simply said screw it, and turned the novel into comedy, but said screw it again, and the genre keeps spinning like a top. It's a good thing I swear.

Cons

- I guess I would like the scope to get bigger, idk.

- But damn, I'm honestly still not there but the mystery behind Lian Qiao and the key is just draining me out. This novel is really diligent in draining people out, like the arc when

Overall this novel is nice. For a person who still haven't finished it yet, and only halfway through, I can say that the emotional part + characterization is 10/10, and since I'm still not done, I can't rate plot yet. <<less
